Name: Sh'han
Age: 69
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Master Courtesan/Mercenary (Master Assassin)
Physical Description: 6'8"
Personality: Sh'han is a man who doesn't just walk through life, he struts through it, knowing exactly what he wants out of it, and exactly how to get it. There is little that causes him pause, and even less that worries him. He's the sort of man who will find a way to turn any situation into one of his advantage, even if that's straight up deluding himself of the actual outcome. He does rather hate to lose-- if someone gets something he wants, he'll bide his time, and find a way to get it later or he'll simply turn around and claim he'd never wanted it at all. Sh'han isn't a fool, he simply will do what he must to ensure he comes out on top, whatever way necessary.
And rest assured, Sh'han will always find a way to be on top.
The ends always justify the means for him, no matter the cost.
His self-assured attitude and oozing confidence easily turn him into an arrogant man. He doesn't mind, of course, and thinks it's only fitting. His self-conceit can easily drive others away, but he knows that it's just a matter f time for them to understand that he was right. He believes there's nothing he can't d, and always figures he's the best man for any job. This can, of course, get him into no end of trouble--but he's (thus far) always found some way to get himself out of it. While he is fearless, paired with his arrogance, he tends to take risks he shouldn't.
He'll push his green to her limits, just as he'll push himself. He'll put himself at risk if he thinks it will better himself, his Wing, or the Weyr--but he'll also toe the line if he feels he has a better way. He isn't afraid of the gold, bronze, and brown riders of the Weyr-- just because some of them ride metallics and he has but a green doesn't mean he's any less. Anyone who says otherwise will find them facing him down--and Sh'han is a man of action.
Yes, he's caused more than one fight and has gotten himself kicked out of many a place. The scar on his face proves as much, but with Thread's return, he feels it is his duty to make the world a better place. While he's settled down (somewhat) within High Reaches, he won't hesitate to defend himself or other green riders from any ranking individual who tries to push them around.
Good-humored, Sh'han can often be found laughing at something. If he's not smirking, he's probably laughing. He's not particularly great at expressing his emotions, but he can laugh at any situation (even if inwardly he's upset or wounded). Those who know him best will find he can be wounded by those he loves best, but similar to a feline, you wold be hard pressed to notice it. He's not one who likes to look weak or be vulnerable, which is also driven by his sense of masculinity.
Sh'han would easily be the poster-child of toxic masculinity and has a very black-ad-white view of the world. While he understands and doesn't necessarily judge other men for how they act--he feels he needs to be the toughest man in the room, the biggest guns on campus, and the least vulnerable at the Weyr. Being honest and forthright with his emotions or feelings isn't easy for him, even with Xiasuth's encouragement. It's why he struggles in relationships, or did, much of his life. It's a pain point between K'var and him, as Sh'han still can struggle to give the much-more-emotional bronzerider the tenderness or gentility he might desire.
Positive Trait List Self-Assured, Good Humored, Fearless
Negative Trait List Arrogant, Risky, Carnal, Toxicly Masculine
History: Born in the deserts of Igen, Sh'han's beginning wasn't a particularly good one. It's not something he talks about, not something he likes to disclose, and generally prefers to leave it alone. Those who do dig would discover that he was originally born as the eldest son of the head of a desert trader caravan. Unfortunately, during his childhood, he was snatched during a Gather at Igen. Though his family looked for him, the trail went cold near Bitra.
It would be Turns before he was reunited with his family.
What happened during those Turns away he doesn't usually discuss. His life actually began when he was taken under the wing of what he'd thought was a local Journeyman Courtesan and sent to the Courtesan Hall. He was about 15 at the time, and though he was wary--and quite certain that he'd be found out by the unsavory sorts he'd been--he was assured that he was now under the protection of the Crafthall.
It was here his skills were put to use. He was already large and tall for his age, strong, clever, and fearless, and though he was wild, feral, and aggressive the Master's of the Courtesan Hall managed to give him purpose. For the first time in his life, Sh'han didn't have to worry about his next meal, or what might be of asked of him. Though he was slow to trust, as a future assassin and spy, that worked all the better.
Studying under the Courtesan Hall opened up a whole new world for Sh'han. Though his studies weren't without incident as he aged--his penchant for warming beds caused drama, even for the Courtesan Hall, and his natural arrogance meant he irritated many--but he succeeded enough to walk the tables at 21 and begin his Journeymanship.
For four Turns he traveled where his Masters thought he would best succeed. At 25, he found himself on the arm of a man attending a Hatching down in High Reaches Weyr. Though he was meant to attend as a guest, and bring back information from a well-placed informant, instead, he found a very riled, very aggressive green dragon demanding he come down and tend to her properly at once! I know who you are, my Shahjahan. Now come down here at once, where all your secrets will be mine to keep. Don't keep your Xiasuth waiting! Though the little green had sass, she also had love, acceptance, and helped ease the pain, bitterness, and vulnerabilities that gripped his very hearts.
Weyrling training was a blur, though Sh'han found himself often at odds with the chin of command. While he enjoyed learning about Thread and facing the enemy of old, Thread was never returning, and the drills and sweeps were nothing but a game of make-believe. Though he was a rider, he still was a Courtesan, and still had information to gather--and enemies to dispose of. After a couple of Turns of jumping through the hoops at High Reaches, he returned to the Courtesan Hall at High Reaches behest, in hopes he might better serve his masters and, from time to time, the Weyr. A dragon wasn't necessarily ideal for an assassin, but Xiasuth was of strong constitution. So long as Hers wasn't murdering anyone innocent, and simply following orders, the green didn't seem overly affected.
Turn after Turn, Sh'han traveled Pern with his green. He became a well-known face among the Nabolese, Bitrans, and Rivercrest. Sometimes people happened to disappear while he was visiting; others times not. Luckily, his form of entertaining meant very few connected the dots, and those who did, were quieted one way or another. Those who might have called him a murderer were mistaken--he never took the life of a man or woman who wasn't assigned to him by those higher up in the craft. It was a form of defense--and those he did strike down were often quite unsavory individuals indeed, with equally questionable histories.
That said, with Xiasuth in tow, it did slow down his progress as a Journeyman. It slowed down even further when he discovered, and was reunited, with his family. While they had never stopped looking for him, he had done all in his power to forget them. It was a surprise, and an adjustment, but something Sh'han was grateful for discovering.
At Turn 55 he was given the rank of Master. This allowed him a bit more flexibility, and allowed him to more officially assist in more complicated jobs, but also help train a new generation of apprentices and journeyman.
Thread returned at age 64, which changed his life, and his families, forever--as it did all of Pern. Of course, there was no doubt on what he had to do, and where he had to go. There was a new threat, far greater and far more immediate than anyone he had ever been asked to silence. So it was, Xiasuth and he have settled with a bit more permanence at High Reaches Weyr. While he's never quite hung up his hat from his prior craft, he serves Zheria and D'mon as they need--and if he periodically makes a few extra marks on a rest-day, nobody has to know how.
Other: He began a relationship with K'var when he was 32. They had their first child, a son, when he was 40. Many other children followed. He and K'var were stationed on and off at High Reaches Weyr, though was often sent off on various tasks by present and past Weyrleadership.
DRAGON
Name: Xiasuth
Age: 44
Color: Green
Size: 36'
Physical Description: Xiasuth is a small but fierce dragon, and anyone who thinks her weak, or incapable of amazing feats simply due to her delicate physique will get a sound thrashing. Don't let her size fool you, for this dragon packs a punch. Her wings are trim and long, which gives her unparalleled speed and agility. Her tail and neck a long and graceful, her limbs fine, but there is muscle there; while she might not have the stamina of some of her larger companions, she doesn't need it to to make a lasting impression. She wears her Threadscars proudly, and isn't afraid to go down fighting.
Personality: Xiasuth is a spitfire and more than happy to make trouble. Like rider, like dragon, this green saw in Shahjahan a kindred spirit. That he was all muscle and she all things delicate only sealed the deal, for in her, was a ferocity that matches Shah's own. She is a fighter, through and through, and isn't known to suffer fools. Fearless, capable, and determined, this dragon is not afraid to stand up to dragons four times her size, and much more metallic in color. She can be loving, flirty, and caring--but she will throw down with the best of them. Never one to stand down from a challenge, she does have a penchant for trouble--but she knows her duty, and is proud to be of High Reaches Weyr.
