Age: 18
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Craft: Apprentice Jeweler
Rank: Weyrling
Location: High Reaches
Physical Description: Given his age Rizdax is still very babyfaced and though the softer features he sports are slowly beginning to show shadowing for the man he'll become, he still gets cheek pinches from time to time. A single scar touches his face from his nose and across his cheek to his ear, given to him the night his father attacked him with a knife and though it has healed it still marrs his features just below his golden eyes. Not the only scar he's earned in his lifetime, the others range over his back, shoulders and hands and were acquired through a mix of attacks, Thread, and working with hot instruments and water. All of which stand out against his incredibly pale skin that can burn under the light of the sun within an hour, making him somewhat fonder of the indoors and night than anything else. Bright auburn hair caps the top of his head, though he does try his best to keep it tidy his hair generally stands up on end without anything to slick it back.
His dress style is mostly practical in nature and can reflect back to his days in the Smithcraft Hall in Telgar where sweating over metal was the tone of the day. If he could get away with it he would be shirtless most of the time while indoors, but generally in public he tries to hide his scars.
Personality: Rizdax is a master of looking angry, of being prickly to speak to and deal with, all while being nothing more than a mellow and hard working man beneath that shell. It’s an armor of sorts that keeps him from being hurt any further than he already was in life and stems from the loss of his entire family whose deaths and disappearances he constantly reminds himself of in order to keep anyone else from getting close enough to hurt him. Emotions are hard for him and feeling them from others is even worse, especially those of the negative variety, so the teen keeps his own feelings and emotions very close to his collar. With those he trusts he can be more forthcoming but if he feels himself getting too close to revealing his own emotions he reaches to memories of failures and pains past to restrict himself to just a few. Trauma lies past those memories, repressed alongside anger that he does everything he can to avoid feeling in order to keep himself calm and collected but it bleeds out in nightmares of death and falling thread at night that keep him from sleeping or wake him up to sickness. That lack of sleep adds an edge to his already prickly demeanor as it is, but with the aid of two fire lizards hatched eggs he found the young man has been able to at least sleep half a night now with residual effects of red rimmed eyes and a rough growl when he speaks the first few times in the morning.
Despite his outer demeanor and appearance, Rizdax is a very patient and reliable person whose experiences in raising his siblings as both a brother and a parental figure makes him comfortable for others to be around once they break through his shell to the real person inside. Down deep he loves children and enjoys nothing more than watching them run about happily or creating something that makes them smile, such as a necklace for a little girl or rings for the head knobs of a child’s fire lizard. All in his free time of course. If a child asks something of him, weyrbrat, holdbrat, young candidate, or any at all, he’ll do what he can to see it through for them, this can also be said of just about anyone. Children generally get first say followed very closely by dragons and riders who he admires but his reliable streak is very noticeable and can often present itself in a workaholic light that reflects his drive to repay the Weyr for all that it has done for him.
Wanting nothing more than to Impress to a dragon so that he could help to burn the thread from the sky that he blames for the loss of his sibling’s lives, he primarily wants to find a match so that he might give back to High Reaches for saving him, for treating and training him. Having grown in a Hold he had no knowledge of dragons other than that they flew in the air, now Rizdax spends every day in lessons learning about them and about Pern in a way he’d never known it before and he can’t stop learning, for it helps. Even while he cleans, which he does even in his own free time that he’s not crafting, Rizdax learns, quizzes himself and repeats information over and over in his head for he’d never received much of a formal teaching before and feels that he’s far behind those from the Weyr and even beyond. Each day he can be found reciting what he’d learned that day or the day before and cleaning everything he can to give back to those that have given to him.
Positive Trait List Reliable, Driven, Patient, Multi-tasker
Negative Trait List Stubborn, Prickly, Traumatized, Emotionally Reserved
History: Son of a master smithcrafter and a holder woman that fell in love with him while working as his cleaner, Rizdax is the oldest of three children the pair had before his mother came down with a sickness and died. Father useless and mother gone, Riz became everything to his younger sister and brother and did everything from cook to clean for them from a very young age. It made him incredibly reliable and his siblings grew up well, going on to apprentice in things that they desired to do with the encouragement of their brother. And he did encourage them, wanting them to have opportunities that losing their parents might not have given them.
When his father did come back into his life it was briefly and violently as the man wanted to claim custody of his youngest children, to what end Rizdax wasn't sure but he knew for absolute sure that he wasn't going to let it happen. The ensuing fight left him scarred across his face and ear but with the help of neighbors that heard the screaming of his sister he was able to protect his siblings and that was all that mattered to him, stitches were easy to withstand but loneliness and more loss he didn't think he could take. His father was exiled from the hold for the manner in which he attacked his son and that was the very last that he'd ever hear of his father, though the thought of losing both parents forever did leave him with sadness. His siblings cried for days, knowing full well that their father was gone forever, and all Rizdax could do was promise them repeatedly that he would take care of them.
Now fully responsible for his siblings and their futures, Rizdax had not a clue what to do with either himself or them. Up until that point he had earned what little marks he could as a child and put them towards food but with every passing Turn he became aware that he would rather do something with his life besides drudgework. It was not a fate he wished on his siblings either and so he began to question them on what they enjoyed doing when he wasn't around, when no one was looking. After a month or so his sister, the older of the two at nine Turns, admitted to her desires, a wish to see the ocean and meet dolphins. Though unsure of how to bring it about, he threw out word of his sister's wishes to the craftsmen in Telgar and was answered by word sent from Rubicon River Hold that they would gladly take his sister and she was on dragonback and gone by the next day.
As for his younger brother, he expressed only that he wanted to stay with him and would follow whatever path his older brother took. His heart melted for his brother, only seven Turns and still a little young to know his future, and he took him with him when accepting a late apprenticeship with the Smithcraft Hall. Having always been possessed of an acute attention to even the smallest of details, Rizdax was accepted as an apprentice to a Jewelry Crafter that taught him things about gems and fine metal manipulation that he had never known possible before. He flourished and his young brother finally began to show an interest in something as he saw what was created each day. Too young to apprentice yet himself, his brother took up tasks aiding the Smiths in anything they might need with the knowledge that it would bring him closer to the fascinating objects Rizdax was learning to make.
This eager task taking was what ended his life one morning when Thread first fell. The warm spring day erupted into chaos as strands of an age old enemy fell through the sky and ate away everything that the people of Telgar had built and everything that mattered most to them. Rizdax watched, restrained by his master, as his brother was caught by the sizzling tendrils and his screams were added to those of the dying and the lost. When the grip on him loosened enough to make escape a possibility, he tore from the hands that held him and to his brother's side, cursing every moment he sucked air into his lungs as the failure that he felt. As hot tears streamed down his face he ignored the screams coming from all around, only holding the limp and bloody hand of his once vibrant little brother, pain shot through his back like none he had ever felt before. It felt as though he was being seared alive and as a scream ripped from him his body was ripped from the ground, a darkness colder and deeper than he'd ever encountered swallowed him.
When the darkness finally released him, the teenager found himself in a healers wing at a Weyr of all places. No stranger to pain, though what had burned him had certainly hurt worse than anything before it, Rizdax rose from the cot he laid on and attempted to leave much to the concern and displeasure of the healers. Forced back down and covered in numbweed across his shoulders and upper back, no one would tell him what had happened, no one would relay Telgar's fate to him and that alone was answer enough. Mourning quietly in the care of the healers, the teenager grudgingly took the time to heal his body and heart, having finally pieced enough together from refugees like himself to understand what had become of his one time home. One of the few things that kept his pained heart going was the lack of information available about Rubicon River Hold's state, knowing well that his sister may well have found safety in the waters with a dolphin filled him with a hollow relief.
As days passed he was given the option, thanks to his youth, to stay at High Reaches as a Candidate or to try his luck out in the world against Thread in a Hold. The decision was not hard at all but after all the stories told by aged out candidates he's already started planning what to do should he age out himself and the very first thing would be to find his sister, or at least the story of what became of her. Rizdax's days are now spent doing much the same thing that he did when he was trying to afford living as a child, but the studies have added a new component that he likes as it teaches him about more things on Pern he'd otherwise never know.
Other: His little sister is an NPC at the moment, but I might make her someday? *shrug*

Bronze Bossuth
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by Uta
Origin of Name: Bossuth originates from the French Le Bossu, by which the original hunchback of Notre Dame was known. When the Hunchback of Notre Dame was written, there was a hunchbacked stone carver working on Notre Dame, circa the 1820s. Although the character was not named for Le Bossu, it is very likely that it is from this man that Quasimodo was inspired.
Inspiration: Heaven's Light - Hunchback of Notre Dame
Heaven's Light, written from the perspective of the hunchback Quasimodo, is an ode of love to the fair Esmeralda, as well as a song of sorrow for the love that will never be Quasimodo's. There is a piercing sweetness to the tune, a sort of bittersweet quality that borders on the worshipful. Never once in the song is there any indication that Quasimodo believes himself worthy of any such love as he observes between pairs on the streets of Paris.
Personality: If Bossuth were down to his very last wherry, he would give it away in a heartbeat if someone else needed it. He would throw himself in the way of any thread that might hurt another, be that other none too deserving or not. He has a tremendous love for his fellows, and that spills over into everything that he does. In the egg, he was nearly suffocated by his brother, Alquemieth, relegated to a tiny portion of their shared shell. But he loved his brother just as deeply, no matter the personal hardship that such a position put him in.
In fact, he is blind, oftentimes, to the flaws of others. It is partially because he has such a caring nature that it would not occur to him that anyone might act out of anger of unkindness. The concept of evil is totally anathema to him, and he would sooner believe that Rukbat spun around Pern than to believe that any of his siblings might truly be wicked. He would do anything for them, and some among their number know that, and manipulate him accordingly.
There are brave, courageous hearts beating within Bossuth, and he works so very hard to be worthy of love. He wants nothing more than to have the deep love and devotion of another, but knows that he is... unworthy. That he is not as beautiful as many others, and that perhaps he is not as powerful, or as strong. Perhaps that might deign to notice him all the same, be he ever so lucky.
Sometimes the world grows to be too much for little Bossuth, and he must hide himself away, as though he is curling into that tiny corner of egg. He is a little agoraphobic, although he also yearns deeply for the freedom to go out there and fly among his brothers and sisters in the Weyr! Yet sometimes his weyr ledge is the safest of all places, and he will happily go tuck away there in his wallow with his rider. He is... a bit jealous of those who find things come easily to them, especially love, but his big hearts will still be fond of them, all the same.
Positive Traits: Giving, Courageous, Self-Sacrificing, Loving
Negative Traits: Self-loathing, Downtrodden, Evasive, Envious
Adult Size: 36'
Physical Attributes: Bossuth has a kinked tail from where his brother stepped on and broke his tail in the egg. He also has small headknobs. Although he is a smaller Bronze, his chest and shoulders are very broad, and his legs short for his size.
Additional Notes: He is the twin brother of Alquemieth, and has both a great fear for him, and a deep love and devotion toward him. He adores his mother, Fianth, and has had a strong bond with her from the egg.
He wants nothing more than to be loved, deeply and truly.
Theme Song: Heaven's Light, the Hunchback of Notre Dame Musical
Egg: White & Red Egg
Why Me? Rizdax and Bossuth share many things in common, from their sweet and gentle natures to the assumptions others make about them. Rizdax is a good and loving boy, patient with his siblings in a way that Bossuth has never experienced. Yet others assume him to be an angry, fierce young man. Bossuth has stood in his brother's shadow from the very first - Alquemieth in fact took up the vast majority of their shared egg. Only Rizdax could truly understand and love Bossuth as he deserves to be loved. For his part, Bossuth's gentle and kind soul will be a balm to Rizdax, who is painfully lacking in good things in his life.
