In the year 2040, when VR gaming became mainstream, major game companies rushed to find the next big thing. They wanted a way to take the undisputed top of the pyramid in gaming. During this race a handful of scientists got together with programmers to create the next big thing - full immersion chamber technology. This technology became known as Full Dive as it allowed a player to dive right into the world of the game completely. All their senses would be attuned to the impute that the game world fed them and it would seem as life like as any reality depending on the actual game itself. This revolutionary group worked for Nintendo. And of course the company decided to invest this technology into the largest grossing revenue that it had - Pokemon.

And so Pokemon the Online World, or POW for short, was born. Media and Press released ran wild with the news. All over the world a few lucky people got to test the game in the Beta stages. Then finally in 2050 the immersion chambers were available to the public all over the world. Every major city or large town worked to have a building filled with these pods. People from all over the world flocked to these gaming centers and paid the fee to access the chamber. Some of the richer clients even purchased a chamber for private use. Everyone thought it was as safe as playing any other game. They even praised Nintendo for adding a vitals monitoring system. No one thought that this would have any negative impact...at least no more than any other game on the market.

                                They were wrong.

Sown into the group of scientists, programmers, and artists who worked tirelessly to make the entire game seem as real as reality was a couple who sought to do something else. It was this couple that bid their time until all the players were logged into the game until they made their move. Quickly they readjusted the code so that no player could log out once they logged in. Not only that but they accessed the code for all of the chambers all over the world to create some devastating effects. If anyone attempted to remove the helmet that was placed on a player's head within the chamber, thus forcibly logging them out, the player would die. Not only that but if a player died in the game they died in real life.

As a courtesy to all of the world the couple responsible for this let it be known what would happen if someone tried to remove the person from the chamber and remove their helmet. Once they did, though, many people tried as they thought it was just one big bluff. Because of their very public statement, a lot of players died before their initial log on process even completed as others tried to remove them from the system. And the world fell into such chaos over the system as a result.

Unfortunately for the players inside of the game they remained unaware of the changes in the programming. All logout options at terminals or through their various forms of pokegear would be gone, as though it never existed in the first place. Soon enough they will find themselves completely trapped....

Worst of all they won't even know why.

Welcome to the world of POKEMON!

This world is inhabited by creatures called
POKEMON! For some people, POKEMON are pets.
Others use them for fights. Your very own
POKEMON legend is about to unfold! A world
                                          of dreams and adventures awaits!
                                          Let's go!

As each player's connection logged them into Pokemon the Online World, their avatar awoke in the virtual world. As the avatar awoke, so to did the player. They awake in a room which was randomly generated using a very complicated algorithm based on the selections they made for their virtual body. Which meant that each was decorated based on the perceived styles. It also meant that the chance of having the same room as any other player was minimized drastically. It wouldn't be just the room which was generated but the bedroom was the one which was tailored to their avatar specifically. The entire house was generated using a very complicated, very sophisticated programing so that no one awake in the same settings. Of course, the houses were similar if they were in the same area. Everything was done much in the same way that a neighborhood in the real life would have similar houses. Which only made the experience all that more realistic to the awakening players.

Everything they touched would feel real. Everything they saw would look real as well. Which included the sunlight which may or may not have streamed in through their bedroom windows. As each player got up the scent of an iconic breakfast would waft through the house. But the first thing that most would probably do would be get up and realize that they were dressed in pajamas. Depending on the room they'd be able to find standard clothing based on their avatar choices in a dresser, a closet, or some sort of similar clothing storage unit.

The sound of parents down the stairs could be heard if they ventured out. There were a variety of parental models created with enough variation in character design that no two players starting in the same town would have the same parents...or parent. Some people would wake up with the standard two parent system, others with two mothers or two fathers, while others would wake up with only a mother or a father. The models for each player would look similar to their real life parents based on a facial reconstruction from when they submitted a picture of them. If they did not submit a picture then the parents' identities were based on a brake down of phenotypical features on the player's real features. Vocal patterns of the parents would be based off a player's own spoken habits. Of course, everything was being translated and coded so by the Dive gear so that people from all over the world could speak their native language and others from different languages could understand them in their own as well. That went for the parents and any other computer generated person in the world.

After they found where their clothes would be, an fairly large item would appear somewhere in the room. It would be the backpack which they picked out for their very own pokemon journey. The size of the backpack and the grade of the objects inside would depend on the price of the package they paid for during the avatar creation phase. However, the general items which would be inside of that backpack all depended on their first choice of the game. That choice would appear atop the backpack the moment they noticed it. They would need to select their choice before being able to open the backpack and look into it.

                          ╔════════════════╗___╔════════════════╗___╔════════════════╗
                          _______Team Valor_____._________Team Instinct_____._________Team Mystic_____.
                          ╚════════════════╝___╚════════════════╝___╚════════════════╝

When they finally had a chance to explore what was in their backpacks, their in game parent(s) would finally come to see if they were awake. The exchange would differ for everyone in various ways depending on the type of parents they received in the game. Some were enthusiastic, others were worried, and some were more aloof about the whole situation. Regardless, they would remind the Player to go to Professor Birch's laboratory for the orientation. That way they could receive their very first pokemon.

Outside of the town, just barely outside of it, was one of the best known research labs of Hoenn. Professor Birch's lab sat surrounded by open fields and trees, the forest was to the back. There was a large radio transmitter and receiver on the side of the main building. The building's bright orange roof were hard to miss, especially as the sun shone off of it. The building's size and colors made it easy to find when the time came. As did the fact that every once in awhile the people of the town, NPCs if you will, would often make a comment about where the players needed to head to.

When they got there, most people would find a crowd of people upwards towards one thousand people. Not generated by computers but actual players. A thousand different players in all shapes and colors filled the front lawn of the research building. Chairs had been placed out much in the same way that one might expect of a high school graduation. The white plastic gleamed in the sunlight, split down the middle by a long stretch of grass so that there seemed to be two different wings. When the right time came the sound of an old fashioned bell chimed from the front. Plenty of research assistants were scattered about, talking amongst themselves before the bell started to play. Once it did most of them sort of meandered towards the front of the chairs as they waited for the professor.

And they waited for more than a few minutes. Some people were happy to wait, others were not quite so patient. Even some of the research assistants looked like they were about to mutanie. Finally, ten minutes after the bell had chimed in, professor Birch showed up. Only he wasn't alone. A singular Wurmple clung to his head. One of the research assistants rushed forward to help get the poor thing out of the mass that the professor called his hair.

"Ah, thanks...now where were we...oh yeah, these are all the kids who showed up for the orientation right?" As he spoke, Professor Birch looked around. He rubbed his beard slightly as a smile split his lips. "Wow there must be a thousand kids out there! How exciting. I hope we have enough eggs."

They, of course, did. Professor Birch walked up to the table and grabbed the microphone sitting there. He cleared his throat and tapped on it to make sure he had everyone attention.

"Hello everyone! I'm glad you could make it. As you may or may not know, my name is Professor Birch. And you're all here today to get your first pokemon right?" He waited for a moment, as though giving the expected pause. Only instead of just carrying on he looked around once more and then back towards his research assistants. "That's what they're here for right? Why is everyone so quiet. I thought it would be an exciting day for them!"

"Professor...just hurry. Some of the eggs felt ready to hatch any minute."

The stocky professor sighed, the sound bouncing off the microphone and sounding quite loud. "Fine fine. Anyways…"

He turned back to look at the group. "In a few minutes all of my assistants will bring out the eggs that we've gathered from breeders all over the world just for you. But before that we do have some things to go over. Everyone sent in their applications for their advisory teams right? They should have sent you a starting pack with things like Pokeballs and tents...that sort of stuff."

He was of course referring to when the players had to pick between Team Mystic, Team Instinct, and Team Valor.

"Without your pack, starting your journey will be pretty hard. Not as hard as getting away from a pack of mighty angry poochyenas but still difficult. Haha..uh hmm. Okay now down to the basics. The different boards have sent us all of your trainer identification. You will need to pick that up before we're able to give you a pokemon. Now don't get up all at once because I still have some things to tell you kids. But yeah, when I'm done head over to the group with your team color on and they'll get your information. That way you can pick up your pokegear. Right...where was I?"

His eyes swept over the group again and it seemed like he was honestly trying to remember.

"Oh yeah! Alright. Now listen here cause this is important. You pokegear acts like a recorder of all the pokemon you've seen and recorded. It also keeps track of information like your pokemon's health and status effects. There are other cool features on it as well like your map. That'll come in handy as you try to navigate the routes. On top of that it's your mobile bank. From now on when you earn any money or receive your monthly stipend, it will go straight to your pokegear. That also means that it will instantly handle any transactions you make. You just swipe it over the check out devices at stores and Bam! Everything is paid. The device also has all of your personal information so you can compete in gyms and competitions, as well as any other special events you might get involved in. Which means that the moment you pick up your pokegear you're officially a registered pokemon trainer, which means that there are certain rules you have to follow."

This time when he paused it really did seem to be that obligatory pause to make sure that people were keeping up with what he was saying. "First of all you promise to never steal any person's pokemon, nor intentionally hurt them outside of battle. You promise to obey and all rules set down by whatever city you travel to. As well as a bunch of other things you guys probably already know already...but most important. Are you guys listening? ...right. Most importantly you promise to have fun!"

"Now, everyone stand up and go to the group of assistants that are dressed in your group's colors. When everyone's got their pokegear we'll start handing out the eggs. And we should probably hurry. Some of them looked ready to hatch at any moment. Just remember! A lot of these pokemon will hatch and be very small but you should see them get to their expected size within a week."

Once all of the devices were handed out, the eggs were brought out as promised. Only, unlike prior generations each egg seemed different. There were different colors that sort of matched up to the types that seemed to be in previous games, but there was a lot more variants. The different eggs had different textures. Some were smooth and hard, while others had a sort of give to them. Not to mention all the different sizes - some were barely bigger than a person's fists while others the size of people's heads. It all depended on the body size of the mother pokemon that laid them.

After that event was taken care of, the trainers were free to go off with their eggs as they saw fit. That means that they could start walking the route or it means that they could go shopping to supplement what was in their pack. The game, at this point, became nearly an open world to them.

Team Valor's Equipment

They start off with a smaller Backpack that holds a tent just big enough for one person. They have a portable, solar charged flashlight as well as camping lighter. They would also have a thin ribbon, badge, and key case for any competition they may enter.

The interesting things that those in Valor get include a few potions, an antidote , and an ether as they and their pokemon tend to train extensively. They also have an every lasting Escape rope on hand for when they get into tight situations. They also receive an HM or TM of their choice once they pick up their pokemon. Unlike the other packs they receive 10 pokeballs extra at the start.

When they get their pokemon from Professor Birch's lab, they will also get a Pokegear for their journey as well.

Team Instinct's Equipment

They would have a full backpack which would be made out of a material suitable for camping. It may only have a few different areas but it can fit quite a bit. Their Tent would definitely be the kind that you could help others in as it would easily fit two people inside. The Sleeping bag would be rather thin and light as team Instinct is expected to be hardy. They would also have a thin ribbon, badge, and key case for any competition they may enter. They receive 3 pokeballs to start with.

What makes their team unique is that they would have plenty of things to cook and serve food in for themselves and pokemon. This would include things like a frying pan, cooking utensils, a water filter, some flatware, collapsible pokebowls, and a tactical knife. They also have a starter kit full of berry juice and miscellaneous herbs. Another thing that they would have is the option to customize their pokeball skins. This helps them individualize their pokeballs as separate from the general trainers in the world.

When they get their pokemon from Professor Birch, they will receive an Xtransceiver for their journey.

What sets them apart from the other teams is that they get a collapsible fishing rod. They also get an aerosol repel spray for when they get into too tight of a jam. Mixed with the Devon Scope they could be quite efficient tracking and finding the Pokemon that they're looking for. Along with this they get a few custom balls shipped all the way to them from Kurt - this includes a heavy ball, a quick ball, a heal ball, a friend ball, and a lure ball.

When they pick up their pokemon from professor Birch's laboratory they will also receive a Pokenav for their journey.

It had been five days since the players had logged into Pokemon the Online World. No one had been able able to log out or contact the outside world up to that point. Each player was left in the dark as to what was happening as they tried to navigate their way around a world that was so familiar yet completely new all at the same time. A lot of the simple blockades that existed in prior games no longer existed in this game. All of the game mechanics played through so smoothly that it really seemed like real life; in fact the longer a player interacted with the game, the less of a distinction they would find between this world and the next. Of course some things were still automated when any skills they may have gained were engaged but for the most part everything was done in a very realistic way. Which may explain why even at this early stage there were some people who had a hard time handling the situation they found themselves in.

A few more bodies were found all around the globe as players fell to the dangers of this world. The death toll rose though no one really had a way to count it as they traversed through the routes and forests. There were only a few saving graces about the situation. The first was that after twelve to twenty four hours, depending on the environment, the dead bodies would fade away to leave nothing but bones. Eventually Pokemon of all sorts dealt with these bones. Sometimes digletts buried them, other time a stray femur or two would become play toys for canine-like pokemon. There were even a few rumors of cubones who were able to defend themselves better thanks to the bones they found in the wild. The only other saving grace of this situation was that the system did nothing to encourage Player Killing, also knowing as PKing. Once the person died their items disappeared with them. Only a few things remained behind - things like water and food remained. In the case of fresh food it had an expiration date till it soured and at that point it would disappear but at least the water would remain as long as it was in a container of sorts.

As horrible as it was...the food and water that stayed behind helped other players to keep alive as they tried to reach the next town. Unlike in the games before POW, the town was not something you could get to in an hour. It took players no less than four days to reach on foot if they hurried along the route. Once players were able to get into town they would be able to refresh themselves at the pokemon center. They would have access to simple, free meals for themselves and their pokemon as well as basic accommodations. Players had to share rooms of course and the bathrooms were very similar to high school gyms', but at least it was free. Which was something that most players were probably grateful for at this early point in the game.

On the fifth night, when the sun started to set, a large count down clock could be seen in the sky. This countdown could be seen from all over no matter where you were. And it appeared at the same time all around the world regardless of timezones. In the Hoenn region it appeared as the sun set on the fifth day. When the clock ran out a shadowy figure (if it was sunset, glowing if the sun was prominent) appeared in the sky. They were massive and their appearance caused almost all of the NPCs to move outside to see them, which was yet another indication for the players that they should be paying attention.

"Greetings, players. By now I'm sure all of you have noticed that there seems to be something missing from your menus - your log out button. I assure you that this is not a glitch. This is how Pokemon the Online World was always meant to be. You cannot log yourself out of POW and no one from the outside will be able to safely shut down the system. If anyone tries to force you out of the game, the system will discharge various signals to your brain and your nerves which will shut your body down. In other words - you will die. Despite my warnings, the families and friends of some of the players have attempted to remove others from the systems. As a result the game lost nearly a three thousand and eleven players. This is on top of the two thousand and twelve players who have already fallen to my world. These five thousand and twenty-three players have been deleted from the wonderful world of Pokemon...and the real world."

As the people reacted, the large figure in the sky waited. All around him various screens of major world news started to appear. The various different screens blocked out the rest of the sky as they were pulled from all over the real globe.

"As you can see, international media outlets have round-the-clock coverage of everything. Including the deaths. At this point, it's safe to assume that the likelihood of someone being removed from the system is minimal at best. I hope this brings you a little comfort as you try to clear the game. As one last parting kindness, I have opened up a new system for everyone to use. Once a month you will instantly receive a special piece of stationary that you can use to send a type of e-mail. You can write a small letter to the outside world and it will be delivered to any person in the real world that you've addressed it to. You will not be able to receive any responses but at the very least, if you so desire, you can tell anyone in the real world how you are using this special system. So you can take comfort in the fact that your loved ones can at least know how you are doing."

Players had a chance to check their inventory at that point. And true to his word, there was a special piece of pokemon mail waiting for them to fill out and send to the real world if they so desired. The piece of stationary would only last until 11:59pm of the last night of each month. At that point it would expire. So no one could accumulate more than one at a time.

"It's very important to remember the following: There is no way to revive a fallen player or pokemon in the game. If your HP drops down to zero, you will be deleted...forever. And you will die. If your pokemon's HP drops down to Zero, they will be deleted from the system and in that sense they too will die. There are only a few ways to escape now. You either must complete the pokedex of all regions, or you must be the fantastic four from each region as well as the former reigning champion. If anyone can do either of these spectacular events, everyone will be free to log out once more. Until then...everyone should do their best to stay alive."

Rustboro City
Welcome to Rustboro city, home of the famous Davon Corporation. This is the first metropolis that many of the new players would stubble into. The buildings stretch up high into the sky and the city streets are bustling with things to see, do and buy. In contrast to what would otherwise be a modern city, a lot of the bases of these high rising buildings look to be built out of stone. In fact, all of the streets and pavements are the same. Stone has been cut and placed together so intricately that it's held since the dawn of the city. Even all of the houses and other buildings, ones that aren't high rises, have stone built into their architecture. This lends the city an old world sort of vibe which both clashes and blends with the densely packed metropolis theme.

As for the population themselves they are friendly enough; but like most cities a lot of people seem busy with their own lives. There are plenty of things to do for the inhabitants and visitors. Things like salons, temporary work, movies, shopping, pokemon training sessions, and more. There is even few rides scattered about in the various city parks. Not to mention this is the first settlement right next to the ocean. The beach front always attracts many people. But be careful - ever since the beach side warehouses have begun to be bought up by a private owner from Kanto, some shady people have been seen lurking around. In fact, most people don't like hanging out on the beach after dark. There are rumors that the beach is haunted now. If you listen carefully maybe you'll hear the moans and groans from all the restless spirits in the wind.

You could reach this city after about a month or so of playing.

In Rustboro City, the docks have become a place of commotion. With the police stretched thin, the city hired trainers to patrol the docks. Some of the trainers on patrol found and defeated a small contingency of Team Rocket Grunts that had started to claim a section of the docks as their own.
