The text was simple but Melvin soent a good part of the morning holding his coffee till it went cold looking at his phone.

After it felt like he might need to lay down, he took off his hlasses, ran a hand over his eyes, and finally sent it. It was in the universes' hands now.

Hello Your Dark-horned Highness,
Are you free this weekend? May I take you out on leave?

He was lounging half asleep when his phone buzzed.

Nash stretched out a hand and fumbled on the bedside table until he found it, dragging it towards himself and then wincing as the brightness of the screen assaulted his eyes. It wasn't even that early; he'd slept in because of a late night, Nash's brain slowly working to comprehend the words on the screen.

After a moment, he managed a reply back.

He tensed at the message. Fun. He hoped it would be fun, but he was not sure what Nash considered fun as they were stuck on a island or doing missions.

Well, this was the reason he wanted to take him out on a date.

He dragged himself vertical to read the text, smiled sleepily, then rose to dress.

Great. See you there.

He smiled, rising up to toss aside his Hunter coat and picked out his pea-coat from the closet. Grabbing his wallet with his card and fake license, he got ready and walked the way from the dorm to the lighthouse.

Once there, he talked to the tech of the destination he was picking, signed out on the ledger, and waited for Nash to show up.

When he arrived at the Lighthouse, Nash was dressed in his usual pair of black jeans, a few layered shirts in shades of gray and black, the top one long sleeved and artfully torn, and a black coat that he had thrown on overtop, because New York City in the winter was bound to be cold.

"Hey," he said, spotting Melvin and flashing him a light smile before bending to peck a greeting kiss to his lips and then straightening.

"So. New York? Sounds awesome, I've never been."

Melvin smiled as Nash showed up. A stark contrast to the man, Melvin was wearing a black pea-coat with jeans and boots. Underneath he had went with one of his more worn, softer pale yellow sweaters. He had a scarf tied about his neck loosely. His glasses were changed to a more casual, typical pair.

"They should have the tree lit up in Rockefeller center by now." He said, already feeling warmed by the greeting kiss Nash gave him. He slipped a hand behind Nash's back and with a nod to the tech, escorted Nash through.

They appeared out on a alley beside a parking lot. A few blocks from Time's Square. There was already the distant chiming of someone swinging a bell for the Salvation Army and various light posts had wreathes and lights attached.Banners for holiday musicals were attached to banners and light posts and there was the overall distant music of Christmas classics.

"Doesn't really feel like the holidays until you step out of our world, does it?" He moved with Nash towards the main walk. "We can uber around when we get tired, but let's check the place out."

On the other side of the portal, everything was magical and not, for once, in the literal sense. A sense of Christmas and holidays reigned as the shoppers made their way around the square, everything loud and chaotic and busy and cold.

It was pretty nice, Nash had to admit. He tugged his coat a little more securely around himself, looking around.

"It's been a ******** long time since I was off the island," Nash said. "I don't know my way around here, so if I get lost, I'm blaming you."

It was said good naturedly, however, Nash's gaze flickering across the buildings.

He held him close as he walked them into the sidewalk and down the way. The smell of cinnamon and coffee from cafes and stands was mingling with a cold chill. The sky was gray above and lights were already on despite it being day out. A few Santas and reindeers were dotted in vsrious display windows.

"Oh we'll get lost but we're only a taxi drive away. We can have lunch and pop in a few shops." But he did have something in mind. "I do know one place we can go." He smiled at him. "Do you skate?"

Something in his stomach felt a little strange, but Nash slung a friendly arm around Melvin's shoulders as they walked, just breathing in the scents. It was loud and chaotic; he liked the smell of coffee, soothing and familiar as it reached him.

His brows rose.

"Uh, like ice skate?" Nash asked with a laugh. "I mean yeah, I've skated before, but it's been a few years."

His eyes lit up to know that Nash wasn't completely new to the ice, and a broad smile pulled on his features. "Great! It's been a while for me too, but we can be rusty together. They have a large rink here we can go to. We can go there and then get something warm to drink and eat after. How's that?" He said, leaning in to kiss his cheek in his excitement before he looked up the location on his phone and then checked with the phone's GPS system.

A few blocks later, and the rink was up ahead, outside and lined with fences that had ropes of wreathes and big, red ribbon bows as decorations. Overhead, a series of speakers played Christmas classics. "We can rent the skates over here. Wait here and I'll get our skates."

The kiss to his cheek was - Nash wasn't sure. Friendly? Overly friendly? He was a physical person - they both were - and he had greeted Melvin more than once with a kiss, including about ten minutes ago before they'd walked through the portal. But somehow it still felt....strange.

It was eating at him. Nash pushed it aside.

"Sounds good to me," he said airily, and followed Melvin along until they reached the rink. It was bustling with activity, but Nash had never been bothered by crowds before; and in fact, he thrived off of them, most of the time. He liked people in general.

"Size ten," he hollered after Melvin, and found a bench to sit on and people watch until then.

After waiting in line, Melvin returned with a pair of skates for each of them. "They were almost out of 10s." He said as he worked on loosening the laces to his skates.

"Where'd you learn to ice skate?" He was curious as, unless you played hockey or lived up north, he didn't know many people who knew how.

"I loved winter as a kid. Used to play hockey when I was younger. Used to go ice fishing too. My sister Sophie taught me when I was able to at least walk. It was a tradition I loved. Going out together and getting hypothermia with everyone."

"But you managed to snag a pair anyway," said Nash grandly, reaching for them. He bent over on the bench and began tugging off his boots, shuffling them aside before sticking his foot into the first skate and starting to do up the elaborate laces.

"I'm from Canada," he said dryly. "Where everyone and everything is about hockey. I don't actually care a lot about hockey - or sports, really - but my parents took us out skating a lot when we were kids and s**t. I was never that good, October's much better."

He finished the left, then moved to the right.

"It's fun, though. I like skating."

He chuckled. "Well that explains it. I'm from Maine. Not far away there, neighbor. As a kid, I used to think Canada must be like Antartica since it was cold where I lived."

"My family was very into hockey. Are. They were upset when I quit, but we still watched the games. That and football too but I wasn't the strong, muscled type to play. Usually avoided the family game during reunions. My younger brother Chris fit that model better."

He managed his right skaye and worked on the left. "Anything you liked doing as a kid?"

He managed his last skate and stood up, offering his hand to Nash.
