Name: Shar
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Weyrbrat
Rank: Candidate
Location: High Reaches
Physical Description: Shar stands at 5'3 but you wouldn't know it by the way she holds herself. She has a confident stance and a hard look in her amber eyes that could make even the tallest, most battle-hardened man shiver. She always keeps her light brown hair in a braid that ends about mid-back, but a few wisps usually escape by the end of the day to hang in her face. Although she has a sprite-like build - slim and angular - it's best not to judge her by her size. She packs a lot of power in her small frame! Her skin is tanned from the past four years of working outdoors frequently and there are a few scars here and there from her rough and tumble nature. The most noticeable one begins a few inches above her left eyebrow and ends an inch or so from the corner of her eye, leaving a streak through the brow itself.
Personality: Shar is most comfortable in a position of leadership, whether it's gathering up the mops and buckets for latrine duty or leading a group project in her classes. She has no trouble telling people what to do but usually does so in a way that is complimentary to those she is with. She has a knack for spotting other people's talents and will use that for the good of the group, the class, the chore, etc. Studies come naturally to her and during her spare time she can usually be found reading ahead or reviewing old subjects or lessons both to retain the information she's already learned and so she can begin to absorb new things. She has always been curious and enjoys listening to others speak when they are knowledgeable about a subject. She understands that she can't be proficient in everything, but she does her best to retain as much information as she can. Shar can be counted on to do something once she says she'll do it, whether it's a promise to keep a secret, doing an extra chore for someone who is feeling ill, or confronting someone who wronged someone else in some way. She has a very strong sense of what is just and won't stand for bullies, liars, or those who use underhanded methods to get ahead in life.
Shar has a fairly short temper and if you know how to press her buttons you can get her riled up very quickly. It takes a while for her to cool down once she's gone off the deep end and when she's angry she usually loses her ability to make good decisions. She has a tendency to come off as bossy when things get intense or they're not going the way she thought they would and often times she'll end up shouting at whoever is in her way, whether or not they deserve it. In the same vein, even when she's not angry, she can easily step on toes and appear quite cocky with her own abilities. She knows her strengths and weaknesses and if she thinks she can do something better than someone else she will tell them so without hesitation. Despite people naturally looking to her for help or advice, Shar can come off as quite distant and cold. Her personal relationships are few and far between as she keeps most of them on a 'professional' level. She has a hard time making true friends or connections that don't involve classes, and as she grows older she is starting to feel the lack of friends a bit more than she did in her youth.
Positive Trait List Natural leader, intelligent, confident, trustworthy, just
Negative Trait List Hot-headed, bossy, distant, brash
History: Shar was born to a single dragonrider mother and was raised without ever knowing her father. He had been a passing fling one night during a gold flight, her mother had always said, and she couldn't even remember his name. Shar was just fine growing up on her own with just her mother and her mother's brown dragon, although once she was of an age where she could take care of herself, she found her mother less inclined to do things with her. That was just fine with little Shar who found she learned much more without a parent or a dragon hovering over her to ensure she didn't do anything wrong or that she didn't get hurt.
As she grew she began to learn how to stand up for herself due to her smaller size. Although girls hit maturity faster than boys, Shar's growth spurt left a lot to be desired and she didn't gain many womanly curves or really grow out of her delicate appearance. Her personality certainly grew to make up for what she lacked in height and as she continued to play with the rest of the Werybrats she quickly became one that was looked to to make decisions on what games to play, who was going to be a Rider and who was going to be a Dragon (obviously the larger kids were the dragons so the smaller kids weren't squished while trying to carry them), settling little disputes and in general calling the shots. When there were those that didn't like what she'd decide she'd stand up for herself, both in words and actions if it came to that.
By the time she was old enough to become a Candidate Shar was mostly on her own. She saw her mother from time to time but never sought her out unless she had a specific question or problem that she was having trouble solving. Her mother was a well of wisdom and Shar appreciated that most about her. She knew that she would tell it to her like it was, would be frank but honest, and offer her insight Shar might overlook herself. The same held true as she began her studies as a Candidate, occasionally seeking her mother out to get her own perspective from when she had Stood on the sands.
Hatchings came and went and Shar remained Standing, but she didn't mind the wait. She knew that each dragon could find their soulmate and that hers would come along eventually. During the last Hatching before the Thread returned she was mauled by a rather rambunctious green dragon, acquiring the scar on her face that she sports with pride and as a reminder not to interfere with a dragon on their search for their One. When Thread returned soon after the Hatching Shar was left in the Weyr to help where she could, an eye on the skies where her mother and the other riders bravely defended their home.
Now she eagerly awaits the day when she will join the ranks of the riders, ready to step up and join her peers in the duty she's been preparing the past four years for.
Other: Might eventually make her mother, but for now she's just an NPC.
