The village was a small, isolated village by the sea, built long aho - longer than anyone remembered. It was home to wild secrets, and wilder fishing - the sort that enticed the men to sea to bring back fish and shells and other goods, while women remained, tilling, weaving, and tending home. Of course, there were crafters and mechantys and bakers... But all pulled weight, all served the village and it was modest, if poor, living, so the seals were a curious arrival when Wren was little. The seals were many types, but none dared to hunt them when the holy fiolk cautioned the penalties of harming the fair, and surely, surely these were the selkies. Still, aside occasionally sniping a fish, the seals were peaqceful, if shy, and many children grew accustomed to tossing parts of their meals to share with them as they'd grown up -- and the seals remained.

Now though, her peers and she were of age, having learned trades, learned to ride the sea, and now many were beginning to wed -- though they still all enjoyed leaving gifts and treats to the seals for good luck. Wren was the daughter of a village tinker -- skilled in working with metals and materials for the fair folk and men alike, a neice of bakers, and she herself had watched. Watched a brother become a tinker, a brother a spearfisher, and Wren? Wren was quite happy continuing to create using treasures of nature and man, to make the things that lit up faces of mixed couples and couples of the same breed. Some whispered she was fairie-touched, if only because she did not apprentice but taught herself, and the fairy insisted no, it was a talent, and none of the land understand her wish to continue.... But it served to bring joy to the village, and thus it served purpuse, and Wren was happy to sell her creations, or to gift.

Today the first flowers of spring blossomed, a festival in town planned for the young and old to celebrate new life -- some found someone to court, some did not, and Wren was knotting together dried flowers and shells for the festivities later, sitting on rocks as she worked on a sea-and-floral crown and watching the seals as she worked, smiling out as they splashed before fishing out her lunch and removing some smoked tuna she'd brought for them, cautiously holding a chunk out to them all slowly.

"You know my friends, if you are truly of the fair folk I doubt anyone would mind if you wanted to come to the village."

The first seal to approach was easily one of the largest in the group, nosing gently at the girl's hands as he - for it was a bull seal, there could be no denying it with how massive he was - took the offered bit of fish. There was an uncanny gleam of intelligence in his large, dark eyes, and he nudged his head under the girl's hands as though he were asking to be petted - which, in fact, he was. Whether he was more than a seal or not, he was giving no sign, but if a true seal he was, he was an eerily intelligent and gentle one.

He wasn't alone, however, as evidenced by a smaller seal creeping up behind and demanding pets as well - also a bull, but less than half the size of the large one, and he, too, watched with dark eyes, accepting a bit of fish before swimming around the rocks, playfully splashing water at the sweet village girl every now and then, just to make sure she knew he was still there.

A third form soon popped up, but this was no grown bull - rather, a tiny pup, fur still white and soft rather than sleek and dark. The pup seemed shy, ducking in and out of the water and watching Wren, but never quite daring to approach. Still, the little one was clearly curious about her, and about why the grown-ups were being so weird.

"Well, hello to you as well old friends." Wren cooed softly. The girl rubbed the bulls gently before the smaller moved, and she smiled, placing a flower and shell crown on him happily before smiling, scratching under his chin.

"There you are, to match everyone at home!" Wren crooned, and sdmiled to the pup as it approached.

"Oh, do you boys have a new friend? Hello, there!" And swiftly, a piece of fish was offered to the pup warmly.

"So sweet, all of you!"

The largest seal made happy sounds, while the smaller adult circled a bit more before slipping in and on top of the larger, half-pushing him down into the water with a bark - it was their turn to get loves now, okay? Theirs! No more cuddle-hogging!

... Of course, that was about when the tiny pup decided to snag the bite of fish.. and then wiggle onto the rock and wiggle fiercely until the seal-appearance seemed to sluff off, leaving a child in a fluffy white coat instead.

He wanted hugs. Proper hugs! Why were the grown-ups being so silly about this???

Wren smiled, placing a second crown on the smaller bull before stroking both momentarily - watching the pup climb up and shed his skin, blinking. They were fair folk, it bseemed, and-- and.

That was a baby cousin. Wren blinked, pausing before shifting, taking the pup in her arms to cuddle as she studies him carefully, then offered fingers, huffing.

"I didn't know Aunt Emily was a selkie." Wren admitted, and cooed. "You must be my cousin Alex! Hello sweetie! Hello!" And Wren kissed his foreheadm, patting next to her to the bulls.

"No need to leave, I'm making things for the festival. Y'know it's spring? There's a big celebration."

The little no-longer-a-pup made a happy sound and tucked into Wren, wrapping his arms around his cousin with a coo. He seemed entirely unrepentant about having revealed what was supposed to be told only carefully, and after a great deal of watching, and the smaller adult seal camp up and dove again slapping the water to splash the pup in a gentle scold for being so incautious, unknowing family or not.

The larger male, however, wiggled ashore. He shed no skin but instead settled there, blinking his large dark eyes and looking very curious. Curious... and perhaps an attempt at looking innocent. Just a seal, here. Ork ork.

Wren was entirely unafraid, hiding her cousin a bit as she smiled at both warmly, cuddling.

"I won't hurt you two lovely gentlemen. We can share the rock, if you want." She smiled, rocking her cousin before shyly offering her hand to the much larger bull to sniff at, asking in the most polite way she could think of if she might offer affection some more. She curled a bit tightly, trying to make room as she looked down to the non-pup, and hummed.

"Want to help make things, if you insist on escaping Uncle Tom?"
