There were a lot of things Jet wanted to change about himself. He knew his flaws, he knew he could be reckless, he knew he let others down with his reluctant acceptance that yes his recruits were all senshi. But he was growing. He was learning. He was trying and adapting, because if he didn’t change then the Negaverse, and life itself, would eat him whole.

The death of his brother still haunted him, as well as the nightmares he had of something happening to his friends, the few that he had, and now those fears were seeping into his thoughts about his recruits. He still felt a sense of loyalty towards them, even if it was pretty obvious that he did what he could to avoid them.

He trained with Gadolinite, and he’d been around when the others were, when Citrine and Seraphine were there, and Rigel and Avicennite. And Aquamarine helped where he could, although his disdain for the Negaverse was enough to concern Jet a little.

In the end, he’d picked them. They might have been suggested to him, but they were every bit apart of him as he was apart of the Negaverse, and he wanted to be a General they could rely on.

Which was why he was in Negaspace, going through some of the books in the library available to the public, hoping to find something on youma and how to find one to bond with.

Jet knew he could be reckless, which was why he was trying to prepare himself as much as possible ahead of time. He was doing his best to change.

He collected a couple books he thought might be useful, and then headed back into the hall, nearly running into a tall, dark haired Captain he’d seen around, but had never spoken to.

“Sorry,” he quickly said, having dropped the books he’d collected, which would cause her to at least pause to step over them before moving on if she so wanted.

The Citadel library was not one of Moonstone's favored haunts when it came to Negaspace, despite the fact that it tended to be under-utilized by the other agents (and thus remained desolate and quiet), was a peaceful space, and held a great amount of knowledge that ranged from useful to crumbling between mouldering covers.

Her displeasure lie wholly in that Wasgo could not be reasonably expected to gain admittance and although the captain did not require her personal youma be at her side indefinitely, and indeed would not have wanted the over-sized beast in the library without dire need, the simple fact that it could not be was as a small splinter in the skin, prickling.

When another nearly bowled into her, she was irritated that someone would be so careless - situational awareness was a large part of their lives as soldiers for Metallia. Moonstone's eyes narrowed with annoyance, mouth opening to deliver sharp reprimand to the curly-haired officer as the power signature and fallen contents registered and clicked. General. Books on youma?

"Sir. Allow me to assist you." She offered no apology for she had made no error requiring it, but although she only knew the general from afar - his rank alone afforded him her courtesy unless he earned otherwise.

Moonstone knelt, her braid falling forward as she bent to help gather the fallen books; she read the covers to herself and frowned. Some of these were books she'd looked at when she had wanted to find her own personal youma, before her journey into the Rift. Was the General without a personal youma then, and looking to correct that? Or was he looking to help one of his subordinates? Either way, he wouldn't find what he was looking for within the pages of the books he'd pulled from the library.

"These books..." She straightened, holding two and looking disdainfully at one, "This one is useless in my experience. I don't know why we bother keeping it. This one helped when I was looking for my youma. To a point."

Delicately, because the higher ranks of the Negaverse were not known for being tolerant nor rational, generally speaking, the captain ventured a suggestion, "If you are looking to assist someone with their partnered youma, perhaps my experience would be more helpful than the...fiction...in some of these books."

There was no reason for his distraction or misjudgment of the aura coming down the hall. He was ready to start learning as much as he could about youma that he simply let his awareness slip for that moment, as the danger to himself in Negaspace was a lot less than if he were back in Destiny City.

“Thanks,” he said with a breath as she offered to help him, although he was sure it was more likely to do with his rank than anything else. It was a pain to try and determine what people were truly like when their personality shifted depending on who they were speaking to and what that other person’s rank in the Negaverse was.

But her assessment of one of the books had him pausing and looking at her curiously as he knelt on the floor to help gather them up.

“You have your own youma?” he perked up a bit as he stood again, and then let his rekindled enthusiasm simmer before he seemed too eager for help. “I’m looking for one for myself. If you have any suggestions, I would very much appreciate it. I wasn’t sure where to start, and I didn’t want to just wander into the Rift unprepared.”

He might be reckless at times, but he wasn’t looking to go on a suicide mission.

Blessedly, General Jet seemed disinclined to punish her for daring to address him so informal and even less so for being so bold as to give her opinion on the worth of the fallen tomes.

"Yes, Sir. I do. A physical type, built for war but with limited capabilities as a mount." She looked over the curly-haired General warily, knowing full well that despite the fact that all officers technically should have worked together as a cohesive unit, functioning as one for the Glory of Metallia, there was often a lot of in-fighting and back-stabbing. One could never be too careful. "He is called 'Wasgo' and has answered to me since shortly after General Tanzanite opened the mirror portal for the Dark Mirror Senshi."

The captain pursed her lips slightly; she remembered that day, remembered the shock and betrayal that so many had felt at seeing that Mirror uncovered, at the dismay when the DMC had replaced their reflections, one by one. "You should meet with him, before you attempt to seek out your own. And it will be your own, Sir. Your youma will find you, in the Rift."

"The hope is that it will be before another, hungrier youma does." But then, he was a General, so that was less of a problem for him than it had been for her, wasn't it? Moonstone could tell him about her preparations, about getting a pack ready, as though she were going camping. About how she'd consulted the Raven - he wouldn't be doing that, he wasn't Haida - but still. His religion might have something to help, if he had a religion, or a history.

Jet was about to open his mouth to tell the Captain that she didn’t have to address him as Sir, but decided against it. He was a General, and while he wasn’t used to being in a position of power, he thought it might be good for him to at least try and accept it. As he was trying to accept the corrupted senshi as actual negaverse agents.

“Wasgo,” he repeated instead, trying not to seem as awed as he felt. What kind of youma would he find that would bond with him? A physical type like Wasgo? Maybe. He wasn’t sure if a youma like that would benefit from pairing with someone like him. He wasn’t exactly built for war even if he tried his damndest to be.

The name Tanzanite sounded familiar. He’d read about the General Queen in a book, he thought. Or maybe he heard other officers talking about her? He couldn’t remember when he had youma on his mind.

“I would like that. It would give me an idea of what to expect, I think.” Maybe. He could be hopeful at least. “I don’t plan on being youma food, don’t worry.”

Jet seemed a guarded, uncertain general, but he was young. Young as so many of her peers had been at the time of their makings - and hadn't they been guarded and uncertain, shining and scared and ready to prove themselves for Metallia and Queen Beryl? Why should this young man be held to any different standard simply by merit of being born years later?

"That sub-type may not be best suited to your skills, Sir. But I can assure you that whatever your bonded youma, it will be most effective with understanding." She glanced around the space, lips pursed slightly; "If you would care to teleport to one of the training grounds and then summon me there, General? It would likely be the most expedient use of time for this demonstration. Youma like Wasgo are not allowed within the Citidel."

The more Moonstone spoke of bonded youma, the more Jet had to keep himself from looking as interested as he felt. But he was a s**t liar, and his eyes almost always seemed to give away his emotions. He was too expressive or so he’d been told. Seraphinite and Aquamarine certainly knew when he was up to no good, even before he tried doing anything.

Maybe he was just predictable in his recklessness.

But this time he was determined not to be reckless. He was going to be as educated about the process as possible. So when Moonstone offered to have him summon her to the grounds, he almost asked why not just teleport her with him? No, she was more experienced that he, and there was likely a reason why she suggested him summoning her. Was this what Generals were supposed to do?

“If you’re not expected elsewhere right now, I wouldn’t mind a demonstration,” he said with a nod and made sure he held the books so they wouldn’t be lost in transit.

Not more than five minutes later, Jet had summoned Moonstone to the training grounds, where he’d set the books, and his cape aside.

“Need me to stand back for you to summon Wasgo?” he asked, not wanting to do anything to cause the youma stress. Or Moonstone stress, especially since she was the first to so willingly offer to show him her bonded youma. Yeah, he supposed there was Aurostibite, but he wouldn’t really say they were friends.
