Again, uncharacteristically, October could be found quite awake and, even more surprising, vertical on the training field. He was wearing a hoodie over a teeshirt and a pair of jeans; the hoodie pronounced, in large blue letters across the front: I sleep therefore I am.
He made a swinging motion with the sword, jamming it into the side of the training dummy, then wrenching it out again.

Seren walked onto the training fields and peered curiously at the person currently battling with a dummy. October? So it seemed, and she was very surprised. Of all the people she expected to see out here, the man who always seemed so very calm and relaxed was the last of them. She watched him for a minute, then found a spare dummy to lean on. "Hey there, Master of Naps and Cuddle King, you want a spar partner?" Her tone was gently ribbing, the kind of thing one might use for a friend, or potential friend, and she was smiling.

It took him a moment to comprehend he was being spoken to, in spite of October's alertness. He turned, looking a little out of breath, and lifted a hand to swipe a few strands of hair out of his eyes, nudging his glasses higher up on his nose.
He approved heartily of the title.
"I could do with a spar partner," said October somberly. "Are you volunteering?"

She tilted her head at him, curiously, then nodded, pleased. "Sounds like a good plan. And how are you today?" She straightened up and began to stretch, carefully, before moving away from the dummies, letting her muscles get loosened up. She found a good spot in the middle of the field, and turned back to face October. She summoned Diwata, and took a moment, and some care, to lift her into a 'ready' position, still working out the balance on Di's new size.

Seren's sword was much bigger than his own, not that October had ever really banked much on size. November's whip was monstrous and he still had issue with it; he could handle the katana with a great deal more ease than he would be able to handle a whip of that size.
He didn't even blink at it, instead just swung forward to try and land the sword somewhere in Seren's side.
"Well," he said politely. "I'm doing very well. What about yourself?"

Seren took the hit, with a soft 'mmf' sound, and stepped forwards, a little, to keep her balance. She gave a small nod, processing the way he moved, and pondering, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Very well, thank you for asking. Haven't seen your brother in a few days, not since the spar. October made a wavy hand gesture with his fingers at Seren that clearly indicated something about Nash's well being. Or it might have been about the weather, it was difficult to tell.
"He's fine. He likes fighting, so whenever he gets knocked down, he just gets right back up again."
Her sword smacked into him, making him stagger; October twisted around, his own sword swinging out, aimed for somewhere on Seren's lower legs, fully intending on trying to make her loser her balance, Tuesday practically bouncing with delight in his head.
"What about you? Your sword seems a little bigger. Did you get promoted?"

Seren's brows raised at the hand gesture, amused by how vague it was. She had a guess as to the meaning but she was aware she could be very wrong about it. "Good to know. Sounds like someone to keep an eye out for on the fields, then, because a good sparring partner is always good to know about." She wanted to survive any front line activities she was sent to deal with, so that made perfect sense to her. The feeling of October's return swing had her staggering a little, setting her off balance. She swung back, but did not give herself enough time to recover, so it was not her best strike. His question, though, earned him a bright smile. "I did, thank you for asking!" She was quite clearly still somewhat surprised, and amazed, by this fact. Quote: HP: 44/50 Dmg: 2 Charge: 2/3

"He's someone to keep an eye out for anywhere," said October, entirely seriously. "I know his weapon here keeps him working harder than he's used to, but he's a kickass fighter most of the time. He doesn't take anything from anyone that he doesn't have to."
Including October, but that was beside the point. October felt Seren's sword slide along his side, a glancing blow, and twisted around to swing his own towards her upper torso.
"Congratulations, that's very nice."

She chuckled softly, sliding away from the blow October was aiming, and nodded. "I am not surprised, really. He comes across as tough enough to take care of himself, no matter what situation he's in." She considered the positions they were in, as she turned more towards October, then gave a little nod, before moving in. She swung her sword up, and back, then forwards in a move somewhat like a baseball player aiming for the ball. "What's been new with you, lately?" The sword was a hard hitter, that was for sure, but October wasn't as fazed or as frustrated as certain other people might have been about it. He took the blow amicably, staggering backwards with a huff of breath, his katana dragging a line in the grass as he thrust it down to keep from falling over.
"He's a good kid," said October, dragging himself vertical with only a little breathlessness. "He can look after himself, and always has."
Sometimes. Sometimes there was an older brother waiting for him instead to protect him. October wrenched the sword free and swung it around towards Seren's shoulder again, or at least an attempt at parrying her next blow from landing.
"Nothing," he said truthfully. "I live a particularly quiet lifestyle. I offer cuddles and sleep time and that's about it."

Seren nodded a little, a small smile on her face. "Not sure he'd be thrilled to be called a kid, but I see what you mean... Being the older sibling leaves one forever seeing the younger as a kid, doesn't it?" She thought about how she'd feel about Dai in discussions like these, and had to acknowledge she would definitely call him a 'good kid,' and probably would until he was an old man. His parry attempt was successful, and she found her sword caught on his for a long moment. She had to work it free, and in the process, had to step back. "Mmm sounds like a nice and relaxed way to do things, though." She said, in a friendly acknowledgement. "Wish I could manage to be that relaxed, but I have the need to move too often, which sucks sometimes." Quote: HP: 44/50 Dmg: 0 Charge: 3/3

"He's only three years younger than me, so he's an adult, whether I think he's a kid or not," said October. "Although November was already an adult when he was fifteen, so it's difficult to tell. I only call him a kid just to rankle him and mostly out of habit, but he's grown up a lot since I last saw him."
Which was several years prior, not that October was thinking of that either. There was the scrape of metal against metal as his sword met Seren's and screeched across, October yanking his own weapon back.
"I never have a need to move," October said. "Sometimes I just do, though."

Nodding, her smile growing a little, Seren said "Yeah, doesn't surprise me. Hoping not to see my own brother here... He's 5ish years younger, so hopefully it won't happen any time soon." She gave a slight shrug, and tried not to think about how much he might have changed. She took the hit, and spun her sword up and around, trying for his side, her eyes narrowing for a second as she focused on the attack. "Ahaha, yeah no. I definitely get a lot of energy, at times, and feel the need to be up and moving. And sometimes it gets in the way of my ability to relax." He gave Seren a look of brief - and very mild - surprise, October's gaze flickering towards her. "I wasn't aware that your brother was here as well," he said, as her sword slashed him across the torso, October stumbling back with a muted breath that never escaped from behind clenched teeth. "Does he like it here?"
He swung the katana out in a wide arc towards her.
"I like relaxing. Relaxing is important," October informed her.
