The Kelvin Forest is a large forest locked to the north of the city of Atlas. It is a pine forest that spans for miles and his home to all type of grimm, including a few special variations that have adapted to their snowy-forest environment. The only reason it is not considered one of the most dangerous places on the continent is because of the fact that no one ever needs to traverse through the forest. No settlements exist north of Atlas, and many have avoided settling anywhere near it due to the tremendous amount of grimm that exist within it. As such, caravans do not travel through it, villagers never get lost in the forest, and the only time anyone enters the forest is to teach lessons and train the students at Atlas Academy.
Because of the large amount of grimm and its difficult terrain, it serves as the perfect spot for academy students to test their skills and learn how to defeat various types of grimm. Students will often find themselves sent her to accomplish "missions" for the school, to collect research data, and even to simply fight grimm as a form of training. This type of intense training regiment is what Atlas Academy is known for, and this forest is the ideal place to test their recruits.

A Message from Professor Katt [ GRIMM CLASSIFICATION ]
Professor Neon Katt is standing in front of the Airship with the multiple teams chosen to go on this class outing. She is spunky, animated, and is wearing her signature pair of roller blades. The excited woman skates around, doing a figure-8 as she speaks to the students. She is smiling and quite honestly the opposite of what they could expect from a teacher at Atlas Academy. The elder faunus stops and smiles at all of them during her last sentences, then allows them all to board the ship. She waits for them all to get settled before she boards, Flynt Coal and a few other of the Professors who volunteered to help escort them all. After take off, she's quiet and lets the students speak together.
"Kelvin Forest!
Nestled ever so comfortably in the Northern, uninhabited portion of Atlas. Its a snowy tundra that punishes anyone that sets foot there. Oh, wait! Lemme correct myself! Kelvin Forest is inhabited! By tundra-adapted creatures of Grimm! Now, here at Atlas, we like to make sure our students deserve to be here. Simply passing your initiation isn't enough. You gotta keep it up! So, think of this like a pop quiz! Your very first exam here at Atlas Academy. I hope you studied, kids! Myself, including a few other Professors, will be watching you through fancy monitors and drones provided by the Frost Corporation, so please only attack the Grimm and not the tech! Your team will be docked points, and we don't want that.
Onto the assignment!
Since this class is Grimm Classification, you students will have to take a few pictures for me! Yes, you heard me right! In the Kelvin Forest, your individual teams will be responsible for documenting three different types of Grimm. I want you to defeat these creatures and capture their images. You will have to return the cameras to me, so I don't want to see any dings or scrapes when you bring them back! Oh, and keep in mind, Grimm tend to fade quickly after they die. Your time management will be important here. Staff won't be far off like we were yesterday, so if you do get into something you cannot handle, there is no shame in using the flare guns we provide to you. Well, there will be some shame. But it is easy to climb back to the top! Work hard and you'll make it through this. Kelvin Forest isn't that bad, if you can fight.
Don't forget the extra credit!
A tundra-specific Grimm inhabits the wilds of the Kelvin Forest. In case you aren't aware of what I'm talking about, I mean Sabertooth. As of yet, these are the only Grimm that leave behind parts of their detached bodies. Their teeth. Cool, huh? You technically have two extra credit assignments. Collect one of these teeth and take a photo of the Sabertooth. Throughout the year, you will have these chances for extra credit from most of the professors here at Atlas. At the end of the year, they'll come in handy, so don't take it lightly. You all came here for a reason. Like Headmaster Ironwood said: show us why!
Oh! One more thing, kiddos!
You are allowed to pair up amongst the teams. We encourage everyone work together. After all, this is a harsh environment, and teamwork could save your life one day! You are also allowed to take up to one image of a Grimm that another team is fighting, but if I or any other faculty volunteer catches you doing this more than once, there will be a price for you to pay!
FIRST YEAR STUDENTS will be transported via Airship to the Kelvin Forest in Northern Atlas. You have been provided a flare gun with four rounds, two red, one blue, one green. If you fire a red flare then you signal your danger and need for the help of a Professor. You will be permitted to continue the assignment after the first red flare is fired, but if you fire both of your reds, the you will fail the assignment and have to take extra, supplemental courses. The blue round will signal your team's completion of the assignment and you will be picked up by a small Airship and be transported back to the main campus. The green flare should only be fired if there is any sort of unprecedented complication. Seeing the White Fang, serious medical injury or emergencies, and environmental irregularities are examples of why you should be firing your green round.
Our firsts posts should start with them being in the Airship and then landing in the forest. It'll be an open field covered in snow, with trees encasing the area. It used to be a major landing strip and port, but froze over ages ago and is now the spot where students are dropped off for trials and exams. Even if you're not from Atlas, you've heard of the Kelvin Forest. The teams will all be dropped off together, but are permitted to split up however they choose, or to work together for this assignment.

Blitz would be seated off on his own,flexing his right arm,now clad in his recently repaired gauntlet which had been overworked,seeing as Blitz had let the gauntlet charge its burst longer than it can handle,having caused some of its mechanisms to fry.Luckily he had an old friend who's a bit of an expert in messing with all sorts tech and weapons,while that is a huge plus there is the off chance that that very friend might've added something that he doesnt know about to his gauntlet,,but thats not important...yet.Once he was satisfied that nothing felt different about his gauntlets he'd lean back and cross his arms,waiting for the landing announcement.

Ariana sat in the airship with Morgan, a bit apprehensive about the sudden excursion they were on. Was this really standard? Tossing students into the thick of things on day one? But then, it wasn't all that surprising she had reservations considering the environment they were being tossed into. Tundra environments posed many serious dangers to those who had excellent vision and reaction times. She couldn't see. Her white cane had been left behind in favor of carrying her weapon, which she could use as a walking stick as well. She just hoped the area they would be deployed into wasn't severe terrain."Morgan? Sorry in advance if I slow things down. This exercise wasn't really designed with the visually impaired in mind. It...might be a good idea to rig up some sort of way of securing me...just in case. I'd rather not walk off a cliff or something."
Things had moved pretty fast so far. The initiation the day before, making a friend, possibly a romantic partner, the team naming ceremony, the chat with her father, and now this. Speaking of that talk, she'd been caught off guard when he came out, scooped her up, and hugged her close, cooing over her and his pride of how well she'd handled herself. It was a little embarrassing as he had held her like he used to when she was small...er. Meanwhile, he'd introduced himself to Morgan and asked a bit about her, surprisingly, having been a little familiar with her father. Somehow, he'd even guessed that they'd found some interest in each other, mostly by her own reactions when he spoke to Morgan. He did keep it brief though and said he'd only wanted to tell her how proud he was and remind her to call home frequently before asking Morgan to look after her and bidding Ariana farewell with a kiss to the top of her head before he set her back down. Sometimes, he really humiliated her.

Niraya gets on the ship and sits with her team. but kinda doing her own thing. she was working on her drone. when she heard that they needed to take photos she quickly modified her drone to take her camera and be able to use it. but when Frost Corporation she looks up at Professor Katt. she wasn't forbidden to use her drone so that was fine. if her team stuck together they would have 4 cameras to work with. She sees Blitz working on his gauntlest. probably got them adjusted from the fight with the deathstalkers.
once the ship landed she activates her drone and has it follow her. She looks around and it was clear she was shaking from nerves. though to most it would look like she was cold considering she wasn't wearing anything to keep her warm. she didn't need it thanks to her symblance. She looks around for jasper, lucas, and blitz. "So what are going to do? solo, duo, or all together?" she was still shivering a bit.

Blitz would step off the airship a moment after Niraya,gazing around at the frozen forest ahead of them,as calm as he normally is and seemingly unaffected by the cold.He'd answer Niraya with no hesitation,having long decided to go alone to do the assignment for the class and a request for a friend."I don't know about you guys but i'm going it alone,i've got tests to do.He'd start to walk away from the clearing,throwing back a wave before he gets out of view.He obviously would be taking this assignment seriously,he was just gonna take his time finding grimm,with any luck he'll get to a sabertooth.

spaceJasper sat on the airship with her teammates, a giddy smile on her face. She wiggled around in her seat a bit as she recalled Professor Katt's explanation of today's assignment. It was a group thing, with multiple first year teams and a few extra staff members to escort them all. Even she had heard of the Kelvin Forest as a child. She'd never been in the forest before, only seen pictures. She knew it was a vast place loaded with battle-ready Grimm. Just as well, Jasper was ready for another fight. She looked at her teammates with a confident grin, hands balled into fists in front of her chest, "This is going to be so awesome!" She kicked her legs a bit, her feet just barely not touching the floor of the airship. It wasn't the type she was used to, this was more militaristic than the transport that delivered her to Atlas. She looked to the other students for a moment. It looked like she was sizing them up, admittedly she halfway was, but was more curious if they were all Atlas natives. It didn't make her feel out of place, though, but it did make her feel more competitive. She had national pride for Vacuo, after all. She had to show it off.
spaceAfter a brief flight, they finally landed in what seemed like the only clear patch of ground for miles. Even the mountains were covered with evergreens. The students exited the ship and poured out into the snowy terrain. Jasper's eyes scanned the area, trained eyes looking for signs of Grimm; the scenery wasn't bad either. Sure, she hated the cold, but snow was growing on her. It was so bright! It made it easier to see. When Niraya perked up and asked what the game plan was, Jasper was ready to make her first verdict as Team Leader™, but Blitz answered immediately and declared he was going off alone. A light pout formed on Jasper's face as she watched him walk away. Before she could speak again, Lukas announced that he too would be going off alone. Hands balled against her hips, Jasper leaned forward and called out to them both "Well, stay safe! And keep your scrolls on, we'll meet back up later!" With a small huff, the blonde stood straight again. Blitz seemed to have his own agenda, but Lukas probably just wanted to go all out again.
spaceWhen they were out of earshot, her pout deepened and she grumbled, "I am the team leader. Guess that means squat." She sighed and turned her gaze to Niraya. She noticed the white haired girl was shaking, but wasn't her semblance deal with the freezing cold? So, something else was bothering her. Immediately, Jasper adopted a warm smile and moved closer to the other girl, putting her arm around the faunus' shoulders, "Looks like its us girls, huh? You won't leave me, right?" She squeezed Niraya's shoulders a bit in a light hug before pulling away, still smiling, and moving to walk into the woods, "I noticed some scratched up tree trunks this way. Let's check it out, yeah?" She turned back to make sure Niraya was walking with her, keeping pace so they could be beside each other. Jasper pulled the teal hood of her cloak up. The hunt was on. She took her longbow and dismantled it, holding the guarded short swords at her sides as they advanced into the forest.

Niraya watches blitz and lucas leave. Jasper was clearly not happy with what happened. Niraya was just watching the walk away unsure if she could follow a distance away or not. Jasper suddenly grabbed her catching her attention She looks at her as she had the biggest grin on her face. Jasper could feel Niraya's skin was cold. "y...yea i will stay with you." Jasper quickly darts off in a direction no other students went and she followed behind slowly at first as she checks her sword and gun one last time before catching up with her. the little drone following right behind her camera at the ready.

Welp,that didnt take very long,what six minutes or so and he's found a Beowulf. Event recap,he'd gotten to jogging through the forest,getting quite far from the clearing when he came across a small group of beowulves,just four.He'd catch one as it leaped at him with the saw blade of his boot, slicing through it,another two would rush him together,each catching a full forced gauntlet to the top of their heads,caving in whatever passes as a skull for a Grimm and thusly killing the two,kneeling when he delivered the punches.He slowly stood to face the last of the beow0ulves,a smile creeping onto his face as it charges him.He'd quickly sidestep the creatures first and only swipe,kicking out and cutting off one of its legs before wrapping an arm around its throat and slamming it down,bringing out the camera and snapping a quick picture of himself and the Grimm before promptly letting go and stomping on its head.Once all that was over and done with he'd start making his way deeper into the forest to see what else he can find,wondering what his teammates are up to.
spaceMorgan sat rather haphazardly on the Airship, legs stretched out and arms crossed behind her head to create would-be pillows. Her eyes were stuck out of a window the entire time. With how their Professor described their assignment, she had a feeling that the terrain they were heading into wouldn't be the easiest for Ariana to navigate. They were silent for a while. Both of them seemed to be lost in their respective thoughts. As she turned her head slightly to look at her grey-haired companion, visions of yesterday flowed into her thought pool. Meeting Mr. Sterling hadn't gone the way she expected at all. He was much more charismatic than Morgan would have imagined. His incredibly affection with Ariana was one thing, but the cooing and hair rubbing was a bit too much for Morgan's taste. Her family simply wasn't that loving. She was honestly surprised that he recognized her surname, flipping the conversation over when he named her father in a questioning tone. They talked for a while, with more of him gushing over Ariana, and even guessing their shared interest in each other. It was natural for the marksman to make her claim and agree, but she didn't want to add to Ariana's current embarrassment, so she just laughed when it was brought up. When he asked her to look after his daughter, Morgan simply said that Ariana was the best thing about Atlas so far and she "won't be doing anything to lose her." After Mr. Sterling set his daughter back down and took his leave, Morgan let out a cool chuckle so Ariana would know how enjoyable that whole scene was to her.
spaceAfter that, they spent the night with their team whom they finally met, and continued with their flirtatious teasing/blushing routine. The blonde was brought out of her recollection when Ariana's sweet voice floated to her ears. She looked down to the girl beside her and smiled, letting out a small laugh, "Don't worry about it. I tend to move slower in the cold, anyway." It sounded like a rather offhanded comment. With her being a viper faunus, though, it was a true statement. She didn't really feel the colder air, but it still made her sluggish. "Secure you, huh? It would have to be something we can undo quickly in case we need to break apart. I think I have some rope..." she mused thoughtfully, digging around in the many pockets and pouches on her person, "ah, I do. Maybe we can go old fashion and belt ourselves together. We'll tie the permanent knot on your end and the release on mine." As she spoke, she produced a short, but thick, rope from her left hip pouch. Maybe it was good that the rope was only about two feet long, a little shorter even. If it was too long, there was a bigger chance for mishaps. They could defend themselves at close range, either way, so it wasn't much of a concern. Besides, if it meant they would be walking closely this whole time, there wasn't much room for Morgan to complain. As the ship landed and everyone disembarked, their team waited until they were the last ones, then moved to leave. Before they could exit the ship, though, Professor Katt stepped out in front of them with a wide smile.
space"I almost forgot to give you this, Ariana. Its a specialized map of the forest. It accounts for the terrain as well as it can, but don't forget anything can change at a moment's notice!" She held the map out and waited for Ariana to take it, aware that the girl had some sort of spatial sensing, bidding the group good luck and farewell as she walked off the ship. Morgan looked down at Ariana and the map, partially readable to the blonde. It looked like parts of it were raised or dented. "Well, that's certainly interesting. So, where to, then?" Morgan spoke coolly as they stepped off the Airship, walking in whatever direction they wound up deciding upon. They would stick to flatter areas with more to offer in the way of "sight" for Ariana. "They should have thought harder about this excursion. Seems kind of reckless." Atlas was an interesting school thus far. It seemed like the Professors had some leeway in how the classes were ran, as well, because this didn't seem like a typical assignment. Collecting photographs for a Grimm Classification course? Still, she wouldn't complain but so much. This was better than a stuffy lecture hall.

spaceJasper and Niraya walked through an area rather dense with tall trees. There were outcroppings here and there, but they were few and far between. This forest was mostly untouched by man, which was surprising given Atlas' mining habits. Although, who's to say they weren't underground? When she heard Niraya walking faster to catch up with her, Jasper turned back and smiled, "I'm excited to fight with you!" She clenched her fists together in front of her chest again. She was glad Niraya had her drone and could take pictures like that, so Jasper could focus more on the fight. She got to see some of Niraya's battle yesterday, but was so focused on hers and Lukas's that it was hard to look for more than a few seconds at a time. She was excited to be working with the other girl today. They continued walking until they came across a large clearing. It was sudden and out of place, many of the trees looked like they'd been pushed to the ground rather than cut or fallen. Jasper stopped walking and looked around, a feeling of unease settling in her stomach. She twisted her wrists around and used the weight of her swords to stretch her muscles a bit.
space"I don't think we're alone..." After a few seconds of heavy silence, the ground began to tremble and a deep roar rang through the air. "There!" She pointed one of her swords ahead of them. An Ursa Major burst through the treeline, stopping its run to stand on its hind legs and stare the girls down. It let out another roar and reared its head back before making a beeline for the pair of Huntresses in training. "I'll flank right and circle behind it! Can you keep it distracted?" She waited for Niraya to say yes before running to her right, letting her teammate work to distract the Ursa Major while she gained some distance.

Niraya chuckles hearing jasper responce. "well out of all of us your the only one that i dont know much about other than that you use a bow. Blitz told me alot about Lucas so that just left you." They walked along for a bit then they spot the down trees. Niraya looks around and tries using the drone to assist. but with the camera on it. the responce time was sluggish. so it clearly needed work before she made that addition permanent.
It didn't take long for the beast to appear. an Ursa Major stands up and intimidates them. Niraya quickly readies her gun as Jasper shouts out a plan. Niraya nods. "Come on you big teadybear!" she fires just infront of it launching dirt and snow into its face as it charged them down. that was Jasper's opertunity to move.
Niraya backflips and lands on the creatures head she slices at its thick armor plating with her sword but it barely scratches it. this grim was a strong one. It tries to get at niraya and she backflips off of it showing how nimble she can be. "Aw did i make the teadybear angry!" She giggle and keeps its attention waiting for jasper to make her move.

spaceJasper ran back behind the Ursa and watched for a moment at Niraya fought with it. A prideful grin was on Jasper's face; her teammate was an impressive fighter. And she was chiding the creature while she fought! Jasper laughed and put her bow together quickly, firing an ice arrow at the Ursa's feet to it was stopped from moving. After Niraya delivered another blow to the beast and expertly back-flipped away. She saw her opening. The blonde fired a burn arrow at the part of its head that Niraya damaged, creating a little crack in its armor. Smile still present on her face, Jasper pulled apart her bow and unsheathed her swords again. She took a running leap and jumped onto the Ursa's back, shoving one of her blades into the new soft spot on its skull. With her other blade, she dug it in between the sheets of armor near its collarbone, wiggling it around and causing it to cry out. She was unable to pierce the tough, undamaged skin, though. It reached back and grabbed Jasper, then threw her to the ground beside Niraya. The archer was able to flip mid-air to land on her feet.
space"Oh!" Suddenly, Jasper got excited and looked up at Niraya with a grin. The Ursa was still frozen to the ground, but the ice around its feet was cracking, so they had to act quickly, "Team attack! Cold Front!" They all spoke about this last night, combined attacks that they could use in their fights. Jasper would use her ice arrows to boost Niraya's semblance, she just had to be far enough away so she wouldn't be frozen as well, "Let's make a teddy bear popsicle!" She grinned at the fox faunus and immediately started running behind them, putting her bow together again and turning to run backwards for a moment. She fired ice arrow after ice arrow at the Ursa's feet and around Niraya, but not close enough to her teammate to possibly hit her, just enough to make it even colder. She fired one last arrow behind the Grimm, a burn arrow, causing steam to rise and add more moisture to the air for Niraya to cool down with her semblance, so she could completely freeze the Grimm. Jasper broke down her bow and secured one of the swords on its holster against her back, keeping the other at the ready in case Niraya needed help. With the other hand, she took out her camera, just in case Niraya's drone couldn't get a decent shot with the steam steadily rising in the air.

Niraya spots jasper trying to pry the armor off of the grimm. Niraya pulls out her gun but she couldn't get a clear shot. Jasper was thrown at Niraya and watches as she recovers. when she offered the team attack she was confused as they hadn't gone over them just yet. But she clarified. Niraya nods and charges in an ice then a fire arrow passes her which helped her symblance. She comes in low so the creature tries to bite her. She pulls a sumersault over her front leg and hooks the grimm's neck with her gun she then pulls it back.
it wasn't happy with this but as Niraya froze the air around it both her and him was encased in ice. Niraya didn't care to much but the grimm was no happy with this. it took a bit more effort but she manages to free her arms and shoots the grimm in the head. it gurgles as it was frozen in ice and would begin to disapear. The drone takes a photo but Jasper would probably have the better angle.
once the grimm was fully gone that is when the ice colpased releasing Niraya from her icy bindings. She sighs as she shakes off the remaining ice. "well. that was something. did you get a good photo? i dont think my drone was in a good spot." She checks her gun and recharges the dust it needed just incase. "so thats one down."
Ariana nodded a bit at the mention of moving slower in the cold. It did make a bit of sense, but, it still was probably faster than a blind girl in heavy snow. She could step into a hole filled with loose snow and wouldn't know it was there, hell, sometimes those who could see might not. That was the frightening thing about it. She cocked her head as Morgan brought up what they should try for in their decision for a securement device and said she had some rope. She listened as Morgan set out an idea, nodding in response, it certainly sounded solid. She took one end and felt around her waist until she found a ring and felt around that to be sure it was the part she thought it was before tying the rope into a noose knot and slipping the other end through the loop she'd found and the noose before pulling it tight."Okay, that should hold. The noose shouldn't ever come undone bu pulling, just get tighter. And the ring is solid enough. My armor was designed to not be able to be ripped off so, the weak point is the strength of the rope itself."
As they stood and made to exit with their team, she sensed someone step in front of her, holding something in front of them. From the shape she could sense, she guessed it was Professor Katt. She stood where she was as the woman said she had almost forgot to give her something, telling her it was a topographical map that was textured so that she could tell terrain. She reached out and took it, feeling that it was some sort of flexible plastic or laminated. She nodded with a small smile. "Thanks Professor Katt. I was kind of worried at how I was supposed to take part in this since it is largely vision based."She then stepped out with her team and handed Morgan the other end of her leash."Honestly, Professor Katt seems kind of reckless. Or at least, too high energy to really slow down and be cautious. Anyway, if feels like the easiest terrain for me is to the south and it's fairly open from what I can feel."
