As had been the case with the invitation to the Destiny Star Gala, Cordelia Carden had received a card in the mail from her parents. The contents were not another invitation to a fancy affair, but a brief note letting her know that they would be out of town for the upcoming holiday and while they knew it was her wish to distance herself, she was more than welcome to use their home while they were away--- and even if she did not wish to, would she at least stop by to check the mail. After a bit of thought Cordelia had driven across town to the home she'd grown up in; the house containing far more memories than she would like to admit. Sleepovers, cookie days, gift exchanges.... So many things. So many meals. It would be a shame for it to not see one this year, wouldn't it? With that thought in mind she'd sent invitations out on short notice. A small group of friends were invited and through them a few others; ones that may or may not have had anywhere else to be for the holiday. The invitation included the promise of warm food in a pot luck fashion where everyone was welcome to bring something to add on and enhance the meal that was already being prepared. When the morning of November 23rd arrived Cordelia shoved herself out of bed, rubbing groggily at her eyes as she wandered down the stairs to put the Turkey in the oven, buying herself at least another hour or two of napping on the sofa in the den before she'd have to get up to start moving about the kitchen again. Another alarm had been set to get her up, as well as an additional one for when the first 'guests' would arrive to begin helping with prep work--- Arin, Luc, Fritz....Others bound to filter in closer to when it was time for snacking and the late lunch meal.

Lucien had been a bit surprised to get the invitation from Cordelia, expecting to have to tell her to come have dinner with him and Arin, but he was happy that she'd decided to actually have a family get together. He wasn't always the biggest fan of the holidays, too many bad memories of not having his parents with him for them, but .... He had Arin and Cordy and that was a family and a good one. Arin had gotten up with him a bit early so they could roast some vegetables and make a couple pitchers of tea for everyone. They had fun cooking things together, managed to only get distracted a bit, and headed out to the Carden family home a bit earlier than they expected. Arin had the couple dishes of veggies that could be reheated and he had two pitchers of tea when he knocked on the door, nudging it open when he heard Cordy yell that it was open. "Smells good in here."

While neither of the (now one-sided) St. James twins celebrated Thanksgiving under normal circumstances, extraneous ones had made it into a young tradition. Rhys and Hitch had gone away, and Fritz's parents saw no reason for him to come back for a holiday they didn't celebrate either, which left him alone.
Or would have, had it not been for Cordelia.
He and Wendell arrived shortly after the indicated time, Fritz carrying a pie that he'd painstakingly made earlier that morning - chocolate pecan. Wendell had already dashed off of his shoulder by the time he stepped through the door, making a break for the kitchen.
"Lady Cordelia, you look beautiful today! Look, all these fine guests, where did you all come from? You're all fantastic!"
"Stop pestering the cooks," Fritz said dryly, sliding in after him. Wendell was stretched up on his hind legs with his paws resting on a closed drawer, small nose poking up over the top of the countertop in order to see what it was that Cordelia was doing.
"Hello, everyone."

Cordelia had paused what she was doing in order to greet Luc and Arin. Luc was just as familiar with the family kitchen as she was so she left it to him to put the tea away as well as direct Arin as to where he could put the dishes of vegetables. "Turkey is in the oven, ham in the electric roaster... I've a tofu recipe I pulled up that I could use a bit of help with once everything's closer to being finished." She'd tried to plan something for everyone, and if Colin was going to be stopping by at some point she wanted to make sure he had something to nibble on as well. When Fritz and Wendell arrived she'd had her hands in flower again, finishing up the dough for the rolls. Cordelia laughed, a brought smile on her lips as she looked to the lean Mauvian. "You flatter me, Wendell, but thank you. I'm certain I'll look much better once I've cleaned up a little, which will happen once I finish up in here," and then to the man, "Hello, Fritz. Come to help in the kitchen?" --- Whirlwind Cordelia was something that he'd heard Luc talk about once or twice, but he hadn't actually seen it in action. He'd thought to ask once or twice if there was anything she needed assistance with, but she seemed to have it mostly under control. Occasionally she'd ask for help with something-- checking on the homemade cranberry sauce, refilling her glass of water; little things that made him feel like he was being helpful even if he wasn't entirely sure it was working. Chopping up apples for the pie recipe he'd been handed was currently occupying his time, but he paused to glance up when he saw Fritz enter the kitchen. "Hello! Good to see you as always, Fritz. And Wendell. I believe Eta and Sumi are in the den watching the parade?"

Lucien was surprised to see a cat appear before he saw Fritz, hiding a snicker as he ducked his head to pretend he was concentrating on chopping up some fresh broccoli for a casserole. Once he had it under control he looked up, friendly smile on his lips. "Hi Fritz and ... wendell?" It shouldn't have surprised him to see another Mauvian but it was a little funny to think that their little band of misfits had so many of them. Years ago they were few and far between. --------- Sumi had padded out when he'd heard voices, smiling when he saw the slightly familiar mauvian and the man Cordelia had spoke about before. "We're trying to stay out of the way and the parade is pretty. The floats are interesting." He stayed on the edges of the kitchen so he didn't get under anyone's feet, tail swishing behind him. "Do you want to come watch with us Wendell? Eta paused it when I got up ... I think." --------- When Lysander had gotten the invitation from Cordelia he had intended to go alone. It hadn't crossed his mind to invite Basil until his friend had mentioned that he didn't do anything for Thanksgiving. He'd have felt awful leaving his friend alone on the holiday and even though he wasn't the best at social things making new friends wouldn't be a bad idea. Basil agreeing had been a bit of a surprise but he was happy he'd decided to come along. They'd brought along a vegetable tray and a fruit tray so there would be things to snack on. Lysander hadn't wanted to attempt to cook anything just in case he screwed it up. Smiling at his friend he balanced one of the trays and knocked on the door.

It was an effort not to smile like an idiot around Cordelia, but Fritz somehow refrained from this, instead giving her his usual friendly smile. "Yes, I've come to help," he said, as Wendell dropped back down onto all four paws and Fritz stepped over, reaching out to pat Arin's shoulder in a brief, friendly greeting.
"Nice to see you as well - and you, Lucien," he added, with a call to Cordelia's cousin, standing with a rather large knife over by the counter, a pile of half chopped broccoli in front of him. "I hope you're all doing well this lovely day, it's beautiful outside."
He only hesitated a moment before bending to brush the smallest and lightest of kisses to Cordelia's cheek in hello before leaning back, turning away to look at all of the food laid out on the counter. It seemed an enormous amount - but there were also a decent amount of people.
"What shall I do? I haven't gotten any instructions yet," he said, a note of teasing in his voice.
Wendell was still sitting beside Cordelia's feet, tail swishing, but at the entrance of a second cat, he leapt back up, looking estatic.
"HELLO!" he said joyfully, bounding over to where Sumi was and pressing a paw into his head before dropping it again. "Yes, I am Wendell! You are Sumi, and you are Arin, and you are Lucien, and you are all very wonderful people, and I am very pleased to know you all!"
He looked thrilled at the prospect of a parade. "What's a parade? Fritz never watches television. Also I think I hear someone at the door!"
From the door, arms holding a tray of fruit, Basil felt distinctly awkward.
He still wasn't sure why he had agreed to this, other than the fact that Lysander had been generous enough to offer him a place at his Thanksgiving table. He still didn't even know Lysander all that well, but they'd kept in touch after Halloween, and in spite of all of Basil's attempts to understand the other man, he still didn't know that, either. Other than the fact that he was, surprisingly, easy to get along with in a way that wasn't usual for someone like Basil.
"Are you sure it's all right that I'm here?" he asked, as they waited for the door to open. "I wouldn't want to intrude unnecessarily."

Quite suddenly, far sooner than she'd expected, there were far too many people in the immediate vicinity. Cordelia hadn't expected anyone else this early and she only just now recalled that Lysander had mentioned bringing a guest along with him as well. He had mentioned bringing a guest, hadn't he? She paused to do a mental count of the places she'd set space for at the table, tallying up names as she ticked them off one by one. Fritz. Luc. Arin. Lys plus one. Abby. Charlie. Colin... Anyone else? Yes. She'd set space for a plus one. That was fine... But was the new arrival early? Or had she just lost track of time? Breathe. Fritz was at her elbow, his presence soothing in a way she couldn't put to words. Having him there next to her-- hell, even just knowing that he was in the same room, in the same house-- calmed her. The only thing that she could compare it to was that feeling of complete security that she felt during visits to Corvus. What shall I do? I haven't gotten any instructions yet. "You're doing enough just being here," Cordelia spoke softly as she flashed him a gentle smile while brushing her fingers lightly along his wrist. The action was tender, although brief, touch lingering only long enough to be a reassurance... And then she was back to being Cordelia, Queen of the Kitchen. "As soon as the timer goes off the turkey will have to come out of the oven and the two casserole dishes will have to go in. They should be fine at the same temperature, but I've got the times on a piece of paper on the fridge with the blue magnet." --- Arin couldn't help but chuckle at Wendell's exuberance. There was something so much more surreal about the pirate cat compared to Sumi and Eta-- Wendell was the kind of cat you could imagine traveling the stars and taking on adventures, whereas the other two seemed far more suited to the 'advisor' positions they'd fallen in to with their senshi. "Probably Muggles at the door, Sumi. Show Wendell the way to the den? Cord, I've got the door..." It would give him a chance to get out of the way while also avoiding any opportunity he had to comment on anything involving Cordelia and Fritz; couldn't say anything if he didn't see anything, right? Arin dusted off his hands on a dish towel before heading to the door to greet whoever it was-- Abigail, Charlie or... "Hey, Lys-- Good to see you again." He flashed the other man a grin as he drew the door open, holding his hands out to take something out of Lysander's hands if he needed help shuffling anything. "Kitchen's a little crazy, but I can show you where to put the snacks." [Posting order doesn't have to stay set-- Feel free to join in and chatter amongst each other, lovelies. THANKFUL FOR ALL OF U.]

Colin had been uncertain about attending Thanksgiving festivities at Cordy's, but she'd insisted. So a compromise had been made - there was no set amount of time he had to be there, if he couldn't handle being around people, then that was okay. But if the company was good for him, then of course he was welcome to stay - it really could go either way. Colin typically didn't like to be alone, but things did change. In an effort to not look a mess, the danseur was dressed in chocolate coloured slacks and with a celadon green sweater over a cream coloured button down. It was probably the nicest he'd looked outside of events in a long time, with no wild pieces or crazy accents - until one got to his socks, which were absolutely atrocious and mismatched. But also unlikely to be noticed by anyone. He arrived with his arms laden with two bottles of De Loach Pinot Noir to go with dinner, as well as a container with deviled eggs, courtesy of his mother. Arin opened the door for him and helped get the gifts where they belonged so Colin could get away from the craziness of the kitchen before the muddled it up. "Mother sends her regards, and eggs, in thanks for making sure she and Miri can enjoy a fully carnivorous Thanksgiving once more."
