It was just a slight bit of turbulence, a tiny bit that might have gone mostly unnoticed, that jarred Elliot awake from the dream he was having about eating steak with a particularly cute faunus girl. "Ah-ghs-wah?" He muttered to himself as he shook his head in an attempt to wake up properly. After a few minutes of trying to force his eyes to remain open, he turned his body around to look out at the forests that the airship was passing over. Still not there yet, huh? I wonder how much things have changed since I left. Elliot thought to himself as he turned away from the window and faced himself towards the other side of the airship. It had been over two years since he had left Beacon for the island of Patch. His mother, having trained him as well as she could have, realized that there was a man on Patch that would be a much better fit to train him properly as a brawler of sorts. As such, she shipped him off to spend a couple years training with Taiyang Xiao Long, a man known for his martial arts. He was also a man known for not taking it easy on others, or at least that was what it had felt like learning from him. Elliot still had some scars from his first few days of training.

It helped him learn pretty quick though, and he learned a lot more about hand-to-hand combat than his mother could have ever helped him learn. After all, Xiao Long was a specialist, and no one could ever compare to a teacher that had dedicated their life to their art. Speaking of teaching, Elliot reached into his back and pulled out a letter that had been sent to him before he left. His mother had caught wind of his acceptance into Beacon and had already sent him careful instructions. Unfolding the letter, he silently muttered it under his breath with slight exasperation.

"Dear Elliot,

First and foremost, I am ecstatic that you were accepted into the prestigious Beacon Academy. There is nothing that could make me more proud of you than I am right now. That being said, I think it is important to keep your mind open and try to focus on your studies as much as possible. That is why I have written to you as quickly as possible. Now, there are certain... factors that need to be addressed. Here is a list of steps I would like you to take once you have reached Beacon:
1. Try your best to be as friendly with your fellow students as possible. Do not cause any scenes as I know you are prone to doing.
2. Under no circumstances are you to cause any trouble for any of the other students.
3. Once you have been assigned your team after the ceremony, please request your mentor to be one Lie Ren. He is an excellent huntsman that will suit your personality.
4. Please refrain from interacting with one Ruby Rose or Yang Xiao Long during your stay at Beacon Academy. I prefer to keep our school intact and the havoc you would wreak and the trouble you would get into with them would be exponentially worse than any natural disaster.
5. Please, do have fun.

Sincerely,
Glynda Goodwitch"

Reading the letter only made him snort a little bit and toss it back into his bag. "Geez. What a homecoming. The first thing she tells me to do is dot my 'I's and cross my 't's, and the entrance ceremony hasn't even started yet." Elliot muttered to himself with the same exasperated tone in which he read the letter. "I didn't even know Taiyang's daughters were mentors here until she sent me that letter. I guess she's taking extra precaution to make sure I'm properly leashed." He stated, a smile slowly forming on his face somewhat. It was nice to have someone that cared for him so much, especially someone who considered themselves his "mother." Even if she was a pain in the neck, it was still better than being alone in the world, or even having someone that simply takes care of you. She's the only reason I can really smile after all this time. He thought to himself, thinking about his "mother" and how she had helped him out over all these years. Overall, he was pretty much radiating with energy and contentedness now.

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ The flight was a lot longer than Carmine would've expected. She hadn't left Patch in some time, so her idea of the time could've been easily skewed from years of not using the transport. Well, it could've been all that, but it was probably the nerves. The pacing was a clear sign of this. It wouldn't have been to obvious to anyone not paying much attention. Carmine would stand and look out one window for a few minutes before walking across the room or along the wall of windows if there weren't many people sitting along it. She wasn't doing such a thing on purpose, of course. In fact, she may have not even noticed that she'd been doing it. This was Carmine's first time away from home all on her own. The thought was nerve-wracking. Would she even make it through the first day? Grandpa Vito had trained her long and hard for this day, and this was the young woman's dream... but there had been plenty of people who would've had much more proper training than she. No, I'm ready for this. Everything'll be fine! Turn those nerves into excitement! This was...the third time she'd attempted to psych herself up rather than be overcome with nerves. Thoughts of future battles, seeing other people in combat, and more began to swell. An audible breath left the poor thing as she placed a hand on her chest. Yeah, this'll be fun.

After finally being able to calm down, Carmine found that she was standing close to the center of the room. Quite a number of people had boarded this aircraft. Were they all going to Beacon as well or was Vale simply their destination? Faces familiar and unfamiliar were scattered about the place. Some were even people from her town, though they seemed disinterested in conversation. She smiled. That was fine. With how hyped up she was now,
conversing was probably not the best option. One passenger, however, did catch her eye: a guy about her age seemed to had nodded off mid-flight. Weird. Carmine hadn't expected to see anyone remotely close to her age during the flight, and she didn't recognize him at all. He was coming from the island, right? Although it was highly probable that she didn't know everyone on the island, there were quite a few she knew of her own age. This guy was a complete stranger. Was he going to Beacon? A bit of turbulence shook the airship and the boy stirred. Swiftly, Carmine looked away. Despite his back being to her, getting caught staring was a little strange.

Still, if he is a student at Beacon, would he be returning this semester or is a freshman as well? I'd see him frequently if that's the case... Should I introduce myself? Mom did tell me to make new friends. As she went through a short mental back-and-forth, Carmine failed to notice the young man rummaging through his things and pulling out his letter. He'd been nearly done reading it when she came to a consensus with herself. With another exhale,
the young woman quietly strode over before the mysterious boy put his letter back away but not before Carmine caught sight of a name: Glynda Goodwitch. She stopped in her tracks. Didn't that name carry a lot of weight at the academy!? And that wasn't just some acceptance letter or instructions! It seemed as though it had a more personal feel about it all together. Was he well-acquainted with the woman?! The shock from such a discovery left her momentarily frozen as the boy murmured something to himself.

Maybe I shouldn't bother him? Agh! But he seems nice! Besides, if he knows his way around the academy, maybe that'll give me someone to rely on so I won't get lost... The map on the pamphlet's a little confusing... "Hey, uhm, sorry to bother you," Carmine started, beginning to walk around front to get his attention, "but are you a student at Beacon?"

"I'll protect everyone including you. Nothing is going to get in the way of that, not even me." ▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰

Elliot was in the middle of pulling out his gauntlets when a voice rang out behind him. The last thing he expected on this ride was for someone to start conversing with him. Turning around, his body sort of straightened up a bit when he saw it was a young woman about his age. "Oh, um... student." He muttered slightly as he tried to collect himself, the contents of the letter still fresh in his mind. In fact, that honestly worsened the situation a little bit, making him a bit self-conscious about trying to make friends like his mother wanted. "Yeah, I am. I mean, I will be. Um..." He stopped for a few seconds, looked to the side, and looked back. "Alright, restart? I just got accepted. Well, more like I'm betting my mom kinda helped brute-forced me into the school. I doubt it was my skill that got me accepted." He stated, trying to be at least somewhat humble. That was what strangers liked to hear, right? Modesty? If someone felt better about themselves or could relate to you, then they would definitely be more responsive and/or friendly.

"Anyway, my name's Elliot." Elliot stated, quickly standing up and moving to hold out his hand to shake the young woman's. Unfortunately, his hand got caught on one of his backpack strings and tipped it over, spilling the content over the floor of the ship. "Ah crap..." Elliot muttered as his gauntlets rolled out of the bag and the letter gingerly floated across the floor. Glynda's handwriting was rather distinct and was incredibly different from the handwriting of the notes that went flying across the floor as well. That was because Elliot was less about being professional and more about getting his thoughts down. His notes were mostly about Grimm, how their masks were each unique despite being incredibly similar, the differences between them, strengths and weaknesses. Overall, the contents that spilled out made it very apparent that he had just finished schooling or was at least going to try and be somewhat studious at this new school. "That's the second time today." He muttered as he began to move across the floor to gather up the scattered materials.

Elliot was not all that studious to be honest, and he was not the best in terms of academics, but he was definitely someone that tried at the very least. The notes were a testament to that, as they were everything he had studied up until now. Sadly, he probably could not tell anyone half of what was written on them, except maybe the parts about masks. He was very familiar with Grimms' masks. Elliot seemed to be more focused on gathering up the papers than retrieving his gauntlets immediately, leaving them to gently rock against the legs of the bench he had been sitting on. "So, what's your name? You're a student, right?" Elliot began speaking to the young woman again, trying to get as much information out of her as she had managed to get out of him. All the while, he was trying his best to maintain a friendly air for the sake of keeping Glynda happy when he finally arrived. How ecstatic would she be if she knew he had already made some semblance of a friend before school had even started, before he had even left the airship!

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ Surprisingly, the way he was speaking made him seem almost as uncollected as she'd been feeling most of the flight. Restart? It was almost a relief to know there was another freshman coming in from the island, but whereabouts on it was he from? "You shouldn't be like that. Beacon's not the kind of school just to let people in if they don't deserve it. At least... I doubt that's the case..." her voice trailed off. Surely he was decent enough in a fight! Why else go to a school like Beacon Academy? When Elliot introduced himself and began to reach out his hand, Carmine was a little surprised. "Ah, I'm- oh." She was quickly cut off by Elliot's bag spilling out onto the floor. Several papers came pouring out including what looked like notes on different types of Grimm. Two items, however, were of higher interest: his gauntlets and the note he'd just been reading. The handwriting was clearly different than all the studies that were now scattered about. Her curiosity piqued.

"Here," she murmured, bending at her knees to help gather up the materials. This was the second time he'd lost all of the contents of his bag today? Sure, there were hunters and huntresses of all makes and models but clumsy? Worrying about some boy she'd just met wouldn't bode well, but a few thoughts crossed her mind about how well he'd do today. Wasn't there a more physically rigorous part of the ceremony? Carmine wondered if Elliot would be up for it. She set her own duffel down and reached out for the letter signed by Glynda Goodwitch. I was just saying that he was accepted for a reason, right? Maybe he's just nervous like me... Underestimating people is how you get yourself into bad situations. As she helped pick up the papers, Carmine was very careful to keep the letter at the top of the pile. Was it rude to covertly skim-read other people's mail? Probably. Slight guilt bubbled up in her stomach, but that didn't stop her.

This reads almost like my mom had wrote it...albeit significantly more formally. Is...Elliot as much of a handful as this letter insinuates?! "Natural disaster" was a strong term, one that made Carmine suddenly very aware of the young man before her. Perhaps she'd made a mistake to strike up conversation with him. Her goal was to keep away from unnecessary badness. If he was so strong that he'd be able to accomplish such a feat, she had to see that in action! Even if Professor Goodwitch was exaggerating, there had to be a reason behind such a description. Desires to question him about his fighting style, technique, and weapons suddenly began to itch away at the young woman. So much so that she nearly missed his questions. "I'm Carmine. Yeah, I was recently accepted as well. We'll be in the same class then? It's nice to meet you." For the most part, that was. The contents of the letter were eating at her mildly.

Slinging dark red duffel bag back onto her shoulder, the white haired girl stood up and held the papers she'd gathered out to Elliot. There was quite a bit of interesting information in that letter... things that Carmine had marked mentally. The possibility of Elliot being the son of an esteemed professor and huntress, one that had inspired Carmine herself to choose this path, and mentors were of high note. She wondered if everyone would get one, perhaps every team. What had her attention for the moment, however, were the gauntlets now leaning up against the bench. "Do you fight Grimm with those?" she asked in the most casual way possible, fighting back the amount of inner fangirling attempting to escape.

"I'll protect everyone including you. Nothing is going to get in the way of that, not even me." ▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰

"Yeah, I guess we will be in the same class then. It's nice to meet another freshman instead of a returning student or something." Elliot began to make small talk as he stacked paper on top of paper in an attempt to collect his notes. "I haven't really been the most sociable type, especially not the last few years. I was cooped up for a long while just training nonstop. So meeting a freshman that's at least in a similar situation is way more relieving." Elliot mentioned as he stuffed the papers he had collected into his bag. When he turned to look at the girl, she had already gathered quite a few materials as well, the rest of them in fact, and was handing them to him. "Thanks for the help. I got a bit of a bad luck streak going on. Hoping it doesn't continue when I get to the academy. I don't want to be blamed for anything going wrong that I didn't mess up." Elliot state with a rather cheery smile on his face, obviously content with the idea. The question was, was he smiling because he has destructive tendencies or because he was simply optimistic?

Carmine's question about Grimm caught his attention, and he turned his head to catch sight of what she was referring to, his gauntlets. "Oh, those? Yeah. My mom sent them to me, but I only got them a couple months ago. Taiyang wanted me to get good enough to hold my own with my bare hands before I started messing around with weapons. I picked up how to use them pretty quick though." Elliot began, picking up the gauntlets and holding them in front of him while he spoke. "You see, there's a lot of intricate mechanisms in them. My mom made it with the help of a friend of hers, but she wanted it to really feel personal. So she built in guns on the knuckles to fire with a hammer that triggers when you punch. I don't really use the guns though. After all, I like the secondary feature she put some extra time into. See, the knuckles can be pulled back with enough force, and when you punch forward with them a again they jut forward like a jack-hammer. It's meant to crack the toughest of skulls. I know we managed to break a boulder with it when I first started using it. It sprained my wrist though until I got used to the recoil." Elliot was obviously very enthusiastic about the gauntlets, finding some pride in his weapons.

"There's even dust chambers, but I'm not too good with that stuff. I'd probably end up blowing myself up if I tried to use it. That's why I mainly use the jack-hammer function they have. It allows me to just punch through anything that comes my way." Elliot stated, taking his fists and punching them together while keeping a hold of the gauntlets. "Gauntlets probably seem super lame though, right? I mean, they're really only good for close range and hand-to-hand combat." He mentioned with a smile on his face, obviously enjoying the conversation he was having with her. "What about you, what kind of weapons do you use? And do they do anything special?" Elliot asked her in return, wanting to find out some useful information from this new acquaintance.Wow, it's a lot easier to talk to people than I imagined. I wasn't sure if I would have much to say at all after being cooped up in that house with that old man for two years. Glad I haven't lost my ability to socialize. He thought to himself with a smile on his face.

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ It was...difficult not to smile back at Elliot when it came to his bright disposition. Carmine had chalked up his statement about having bad luck to optimism, but there was a feeling in her gut that was hard to ignore. Did...he plan on intentionally messing things up? No, no. That was silly. As the girl attempted to brush such presumptuous thoughts away, the letter written by Glynda Goodwitch herself was slowly becoming more and more worrisome. Perhaps it really was more than a "make friends and be on your best behavior" sort of thing...

Either way, Carmine quickly came to realize that she'd made a grave mistake when asking about the gauntlets. There wasn't any course of events that would've cause her to not do so, but this did not factor well with her almost obsessive interest in combat. Although, her regret about the decision only partly lied in her self-control. "Your bare hands...?" His bare hands?! How strong is he anyway?! I-I don't think I could fight Grimm like that regularly... That's crazy. The more Elliot spoke, the more concerned she became about her proximity to the boy. When he held up the gauntlets and began explaining how the worked, however, her eyes lit up. So it really is hand-to-hand combat? That's really cool. I didn't expect the first person I met to have chosen such a niche style of fighting. How fun it'd be to train with someone like that- Her thoughts of wanting to spar with the young man quickly disintegrated when he described his first time using the weapons. Doing something like smashing a boulder his very first time with these... The thought took her back to a time when she'd gone out to do some training with her grandfather. They'd come across this really busted up area, broken boulders and cliffsides, pebbles and rocks littered the area. At the time, the two had chalked it up to some more powerful grimm. That...couldn't have been Elliot's doing. I'm...suddenly dreading how crazy field and combat classes are going to be with this guy...

The young man's question suddenly brought her out of her head. "What?!" she blurted a little to loudly. A few faces looked over, making Carmine suddenly very self-conscious. One person who lived particular close to her family simply rolled their eyes before looking away. "Ah, that's not lame at all! They're actually really cool! Not a lot of people choose to get in close like that, so it's really easy to move in and exploit their openings. Grimm are kind of gangly, so the same goes for them..." She was rambling. It was difficult not to do so between her fascination and Elliot's description of his overwhelming strength. He was smiling, though, so it seemed not to be going too badly... "Unfortunately, most of my stuff is down in the cargo hold, so I only have Tyrfing on me," she answered, freeing her hand canon from its holster on the small of her back. "It's honestly just an over-glorified revolver in this form, but-" flicking a switch on the grip, Carmine held onto her primary weapon as it changed, breaking down and reforming into its proper shape: a dual-edged saber. "I prefer using it like this. It can still fire this way, but I'm much better at melee combat than I am ranged. It stands out a lot less when it's compact, though." With that, it retook its pistol form before she secured it back in its holster. She smiled before holding up two fingers. "I've got two more below, a shield with short-range burst fire capability, and another smaller sword. Whatever roll I'm needed to play, I'm happy doing so." Putting it that way was a little light compared to how Carmine truly worked when fighting, but going into detail didn't seem super important. This guy was already way more impressive than her, and there was no point in getting into a tangent. She didn't want to seem like she was bragging, especially with how ridiculous Elliot's statements made his raw power seem. "I'm...surprised I hadn't seen you around Patch, though. Most everyone runs into one another at some point." At the very least, you'd think there'd be more rumors circulating around with someone like that there!

"Wow, you're pretty versatile, aren't you? I've only ever met a few huntsmen and huntresses, but at most they seem to have one, maybe two weapons. But you've got three? Geez." Elliot stated, letting out a pretty genuine laugh as he thought about how insane this woman's fighting style must be to be able use all of those weapons effectively. She must have been training for a pretty long time if she's mastered all three of those weapons. Probably longer than me... Elliot thought to himself as he began to wonder if his own training might not have been enough. He did not want to be the weakest link at the academy and drag his fellow students down. Then again, he had been accepted, so they must have seen something in him that made them want to teach him. Right, self-confidence. I gotta have that or else I'll always end up coming up short when it really matters. He thought to himself as he nodded his head in agreement with himself. Now that he was going to Beacon Academy he had no room to be doubting himself too much.

When the girl said that she was surprised to not have seen him around Patch, the young man blushed slightly and looked to the side as if he was reluctant to elaborate on way that was. After a few moments, however, he sighed and relented. "That's because... I was training. The whole time. I only started living in Patch a couple years ago, and from day one I spent the entire time training under Taiyang Xiao Long. Every day was nothing but rigorous training exercises. And all of it was according to a carefully planned schedule that my mom made to whip me into tip-top shape by the time I was old enough to enroll at Beacon Academy. Because of that I never really left the area of the house I was staying at except to go and train in the more rocky areas of the island. I guess I can't complain though, after all I got into the academy without too much trouble." Elliot admitted to Carmine, giving her the complete story of why he had not been seen during his stay at Patch. To be honest, the idea of training day in and day out was probably foreign to most people but he figured that a fellow student might understand.

"Anyway, I don't really know much about the island. Maybe next time we have a break from school or anything like that you can show me around the place? My mom probably won't care too much now that I've already gotten in." Elliot asked, laughing a little bit at the hilarity of the situation. His life had been pretty much scheduled out by his mother. Most of the reason for that was because of how disastrous it would be to let the young man run around doing whatever he wanted. "Oh yeah, did you go to that school that was at Patch? What was it called.... Symbol? No... Signal! Signal Academy! Did you go there to learn?" Elliot asked, finally remembering the name of the academy that had been located on Patch. Personally, he had never even seen the school and had only heard the name from his teacher in passing. The school was supposed to be at least somewhat decent though, and it was known for prepping kids before they went off to Beacon Academy.

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ Carmine could really only chuckle nervously at Elliot's words, scratching the back of her head. He made it sound way cooler than it actually was. At most it was two and a half given that Skolda was just a very simple slightly smaller version of Tyrfing. They didn't fight too differently as long as one could get ahold of the shorter length. Still, the fact that he even seemed impressed at all was a comfort in its own for the kid. If someone as straight-up powerful as this guy could recognize her, then maybe this wouldn't be bad at all. There was a bit of comfort in thinking that. Perhaps just having this conversation was altering her nerves, but she wasn't as desperate to move as she had been this whole flight. Carmine was glad that Elliot was nice. She still wasn't entirely sure how she felt about how ridiculous his capabilities were...

Training, huh? The name Taiyang Xiao Long rang quite the bell, and this wasn't the first time he'd mentioned the man. In fact, Carmine recalled reading about Ruby Rose and Yang in Elliot's letter... and how he was to refrain from communicating with them. Actually, that was where the description of natural disaster had caught her attention. She'd already come to the conclusion that he'd known them somehow. The family's name packed a punch on the island. They were well-known hunters and huntresses. Even Grandpa Vito could be heard grumbling out how "Xiao Long" used to be, but a younger Carmine wouldn't necessarily understand. Training day-in and day-out with someone like that must've been pretty tough. Bare hands... The more Elliot spoke about his mom, the more the young woman would put together pieces about one of her bigger heroes. More, and more, she wanted to ask the question that had been nagging at her since the she'd seen the letter. Her lips parted, but as soon as she went to speak, Elliot was going on with such a forward question! That was definitely some commitment and trust he had in her! He expects us to get along so well that we might be hanging out on breaks?

"Heheh, sure. I don't see why not. Though you can't complain if you get bored," she joked holding up an index finger. And you definitely can't smash everything on the island to bits with that crazy strength of yours either. "Sounds rough, but after the first few weeks of a new regiment, things come a little more naturally, right? I had an extended stay, too." Living with her grandpa was definitely not as 'fun' as most children would think it sounded. Well, it wouldn't have been to most children, but training and fighting was Carmine's stress relief. Anything else would've been boring. As if right on cue with the topic, the first Signal question came up. She'd prepared for these well-enough. Any student coming in from Patch would probably be assumed to be entering fresh out of Signal. Not having gone there and going straight to Beacon looked a little weird, she'd come to terms with this. "Ah, no. There were too many things to take care of at home. My grandfather taught me most of everything I know. Trained with him since I was pretty young. To be honest, we were both pretty surprised my application and his recommendation was enough to get me in. There aren't any formal transcripts for good reference of grades and skills. Actually..." Carmine switched her weight to her other foot awkwardly. This was the first she'd be away from her family for an extended period of time. Mix that with being in a school environment for the first time in so many years had her nervous whenever the thought came to her. "On second thought, forget it." She didn't want to talk about herself and was quick to change the topic. Best case scenario: Someone would probably think she was a hick. Maybe not Elliot, maybe, but it was safer not to make this a habit. Besides, there was something Carmine was much more interested in.

"Your mom sounds pretty intense, though! She must be a huntress, right?" the girl asked, carefully wording her question. It'd look a little weird if she brought up Glynda without him mentioning her name. He'd instantly know she read his letter. This may've just been small talk. There was a chance that Elliot and Carmine didn't even have classes together, but at least time seemed to be going at the normal rate now.

"I'll protect everyone including you. Nothing is going to get in the way of that, not even me." ▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰

"Alright then! I can't wait!" Elliot state ecstatically, full of vigor and excitement at the prospect of having something to do during break. It'll also give me an excuse to get away from Beacon for a while so I don't have to participate in "family bonding" or anything like that. He thought to himself, giddy with the fact that he managed to avoid being stuck with his mother all break and most likely avoided studying or some learning trip with her that would have bored him to death. His ears twitched a little bit when she started going into detail about how she did not go to Signal Academy. That was rather strange considering she was from Patch, at least from what he understood. Then again, not everyone followed the same route to becoming a Huntsman or Huntress, so maybe this was just one of the many alternate paths that one could take. Interestingly enough, her explanation for how she was trained seemed to resonate pretty well with him. They were both similar cases, being taught by a family member, at least him for a while, rather than going to a traditional hunter school.

"Ah, I guess we're in the same boat then. If your grandpa's recommendation got you in though, then he must be some big shot huntsmen or something like that. Not many people have that kind of weight behind their name, at least from what I know about this kinda stuff." Elliot said, trying his best to relax and ease back into his easygoing speech patterns. Overall, this conversation as becoming rather enjoyable and he felt that he could finally relax a bit since the two of them were at least somewhat similar. Besides, not being himself was a good way to lose a friend right after he had made one, and he was not too keen to get an earful from his mother about how he was already upsetting people right before he had arrived at the academy. "Hm?" Elliot's had become rather curious about what the young woman was going to say after she began to speak up about something, yet she quickly trailed away before she could finish her sentence. Stuff like that just made Elliot want to find out what she wanted to say even more... but it was best not to pry so much when first meeting someone.

That was when the girl piqued his interest a little bit, suddenly talking about how intense his mother seemed to be and how she must be a huntress. For a few seconds he was stunned, unable to think of what to say, and then he finally looked to the side slightly and rubbed the back of his head while thinking. "Intense, huh? Yeah.... that sounds about right for her." He stated, mostly to the surrounding area as opposed to Carmine directly. Having Glynda as his mother was actually a pretty harsh detriment to trying to make friends, and this might end up not going in his favor too much. "And I guess you can say she's a huntress? It's... really hard to say to be honest." He continued, unsure of how to define her career. "Well... She's kind of the Vice Principal.... of Beacon Academy..." The young man stated, continuing his sentence between awkward pauses and attempts to try to avoid saying her name. Hopefully Carmine was not aware of who the vice principal was... but that alone was probably enough to deter any student from trying to become friendly with him.

"But it's not like I have special treatment or anything! No, I think she's a lot tougher on me, to be honest! I have strict schedules, rules, and lists of things I have to do. I never follow them, but that's besides the point! She's very on point all the time, and she expects me to be on my best behavior! But... that's just not fun, you know? You gotta enjoy life to the fullest. And if that means surfing through the streets on a trashcan lid until you hit a water fountain and fly through the air into a couple randos.... well then I say go for it. Even if she sends you to Patch afterwards because you're just too much of a handful..." Elliot muttered the very last sentence as best he could, not sure if he actually wanted Carmine to hear what he said or not. Overall, his and Glynda's relationship was a rather good one... but he pushed her buttons quite a bit with the destructive activities he partook in. After all, he was the one that made the giant slingshot that fired whatever anyone wanted from one side of the campus to the other. So did that make him a bad kid? Probably, but he was a fun one nonetheless!

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ Elliot seemed...genuinely intent on getting this tour of the island. From her experience, people would make plans like this but never check back on them.
There was something about the young man's enthusiasm that made her believe different, though. If they were still were still acquainted or even friends by the time the first break swung around, Carmine would be thankful for having one. All she could really do was smile at this as well as his mention of them being in a similar situation. Honestly, she wasn't sure what to say when Elliot had guessed that Vito had much more influence than Carmine had initially thought. It wasn't something that crossed her mind up until he'd brought it up. Sure, he was a very capable hunstman, but she'd just figured that he "knew a guy who knew a guy." It was the same way when she'd gotten her armor and weapons refitted and altered. From what she remembered, the old man didn't describe who he knew but only stated that he knew someone. Carmine had just trusted him without question up until point. He had no reason to keep things from her or steer the child in the wrong direction. Was there more to his social standing than he was letting on?

When asked about his mom, something seemed to throw Elliot off a little,
just a little. She briefly considered apologizing for bringing it up, but he was speaking before she could. Once again, the girl's eyes lit up when he confirmed her assumptions. Carmine had to fight every muscle in her body to keep from clasping her hands around his and drilling him with all sorts of questions about the woman. Glynda Goodwitch was one of childhood heroes,
but she could also see if he viewed it as an awkward subject. Although... she couldn't help but tilt her head in curiosity about his mention of never following the rules. Did that...only apply to Glynda's or...? This question was quickly answered as Elliot continued to... defend himself? That's what it had seemed like anyway. Carmine could only let out a brief and airy laugh as she cracked a smile. Every time he began to seem pretty normal, something ridiculous would mess that all up. More and more, the young woman was becoming quite wary of Professor Goodwitch's final request. Natural disaster. Thank goodness he hadn't mentioned the slingshot! She really hoped those people were okay.

"Heh, sounds like your close... That's so amazing, though! Well, I mean, you should probably try not to let too many people get caught up in those types of things, but-! Being able to be around huntsman and huntresses... you probably know your way around Beacon pretty well, too!" Wah! I can't decide if I want to get as far away or as close to him as possible! The son of Glynda Goodwitch would surely know the ins-and-outs of the academy, he sounded super strong, and really nice. On the other hand, Elliot also seemed very, very destructive. Between the wreckage of boulders and clilffsides that were more than likely his, the letter from his very own mother, and the small insight as to why he was visiting Patch in the first place. Did he cause a lot of grief for others? Would he cause any for her? So far, the guy had seemed amiable and friendly, a disposition that was Carmine usually had to earn. "I hope you don't mind if I end up looking for you if I happen to get lost. I've looked over the map a couple times but have a bad feeling it'll happen anyway."
She murmured the last bit with an sheepish smile.

Well, he seemed to thoroughly explain himself well enough to keep Carmine from forming a negative opinion of him. She was still willing to talk to him after all, and that was something that usually did not happen once Elliot's habits came to light. Heh, she might make for being a good friend after all. I need to hang around people that are okay with a little bit of trouble. Elliot thought to himself as he watched the young woman carefully, listening to what she had to say about his relationship with his mother. "Know my way around Beacon, huh?" He thought for a few minutes, considering how much he knew about the school and where to go. "Well, I've never actually been inside the place. I've just been around it, mostly the courtyard area. It's not really a place where kids can run around, you know?" Elliot mentioned, pointing out the fact that he was just a kid when he had last been around the academy. There were man dangerous items lying around the school, especially since it was a school for huntresses and huntsmen, so having a child anywhere near the school was undoubtedly a legal hazard.

"But I can definitely try to help you out as best I can. My mom's probably gonna try to tour me anyway after orientation. Familiarizing yourself with your school is one of the many steps to becoming a great student after all." The last statement Elliot made had a bit of sarcasm behind it, the young man obviously not too keen about being shown around school. "I just hope I don't end up getting stuck on her little track to success. I kinda just wanna be me, you know? Nothing more, nothing less. If I can't be a huntsman doing what I do best, then what's the point in it in the first place?" Elliot mentioned, suddenly having some sort of insightful moment. Becoming a Huntsman was something that Elliot had wanted for a while, yet it was not something that he had sought out because of other peoples' influence. Thus, having people sort of over-direct him causes him to form a sort of safety mechanism inside himself. "What about you, have you ever felt like you needed to... go against the grain? Listening to what you're told to do has to get on your nerves sometimes, right? Especially when you know it isn't right for you or others?"

A slight shift in the airship's course caused a bit of turbulence to rock the cabin that they were in, making Elliot stumble a little bit and catch himself. His eyes, however, caught the window. What was outside was a vast city, one that looked all too familiar to him. "Ah. Looks like we're here. Finally. I thought we were gonna be on this thing forever." Elliot stated as he picked up his bag and threw it over his shoulder. Then he realized that he had not put his gauntlet back into the bag. "Eh... I can just wear 'em I guess. Not like anyone's gonna be bothered by a guy walking around with gauntlets on, right?" Elliot mentioned, a large smile on his face as he nudged his new friend in the arm, something mischievous obviously being formed in his mind. Whatever he was up to, however, was up to debate. The young man had proven to be a troublemaker, and anything he might do could cause massive destruction. Maybe it was another round of trashcan lid surfing... or maybe it was going to be something far worse. Only time could tell.

                                ▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ "Ah, I see. Yeah,
that makes sense." Carmine's bright expression dimmed due to Elliot's reply.
His explanation...only made sense. She wasn't surprised by the info, but it put her right back into the same boat of doomed from a moment before. A child visiting Beacon for any reason would be well-watched seeing as it is a school cultivating combat of all things. Such a place would be dangerous for a young one. If anything were to happen... The thought made her sick. It was nice, however, that Elliot offered his help despite not being very familiar with the campus. Worst-case-scenario would be they'd end up lost together. She even almost laughed at the guy's mild mannered joke. "Thanks a lot, Elliot.
I appreciate it." Carmine wasn't really prepared for how insightful the young man suddenly became. It threw her off. For the most part, she agreed with his logic but only up to a point. Hunters and huntresses usually embrace their uniqueness. This allows for versatility in the fields and some sense of freedom; however, if Elliot's plan was to stick to antics that might bring harm to others, Carmine wasn't so sure about it. Her full opinion couldn't be formed without knowing the boy's true intentions. Answering his question would be easy enough, though.

"That's the kicker," she stated flatly, pointing a finger at Elliot in response to his questions. "I don't have problems with rules. Structure makes for good settings to learn and all that, but if a rule would ever conflict with one's well-being, then I don't mind bending or even breaking it to ensure that well-being."
Carmine recalled a time in primary school where she'd get into squabbles and even fights just because of her fellow students having enough of their bullies or the older students. Of course, fighting was against the rules, so the kid was constantly in trouble for doing what was obviously right. It's situations like that were things got messy.

Another shake of turbulence forced Carmine to re-adjust her footing and perhaps the topic. Elliot's statement while she did so nearly stopped her heart. We're here?! Her emerald eyes focused from her newfound classmate to the window and, more accurately, the view outside. A muffled squeal could barely be heard from her as she clamped her lips shut to keep it from escaping. The city that could be seen was huge and just as impressive as she'd imagined from what she knew. Carmine tightened her grip on her duffel bag straps. As if the conversation between her and Elliot had never toned them down, the nerves in her stomach quickly reappeared. We're here. We're here! She'd almost missed Elliot's last question. "Fair enough," she'd reply as soon as she could regain a level of composure. "Even if it were a more obvious weapon, everyone's going to be showing theirs off on the first day!" The tone in her voice quickly when from sensical to endearing halfway through her statement. As distracted as she was, the glint in Elliot's eye made her nervous. Don't forget about your letter! she wanted to joke, but that would just reveal the trespass she made against him mere moments ago.
"Just, uh, don't go catching up any "randos up in anything... Heh." Why did the young woman have a sinking feeling that she was going to get caught up in something if all this is true.

"Only if it hurts someone else, huh? So noble..." Elliot muttered to himself mostly, not sure of how to respond to Carmine's answer. On one hand, she made a pretty good point, yet he could not help but feel a rebellious tug on his soul when she mentioned the idea of "structure." Maybe it was because of how his life had been structured by Glynda for almost a decade, or maybe he was just one of those people that would rebel against any type of authority in whatever way was possible. Regardless, there was something tugging at the back of his mind telling him that "structure" was just a word meant to keep people from fully enjoying their lives. I mean, schedules and all that are nice and everything... but I prefer to keep my life on a free-flowing train ride that has no particular destination. It makes life more fun that way, and where you end up is a lot more interesting too. He thought to himself with a slight smirk on his face. Elliot never was one for rules or anything of the sort, so Carmine's explanation of her stance was a bit underwhelming to him.

Her response to him mentioning his gauntlets seemed to brighten up his mood just a little bit. "Yeah, you're right! I gotta show off if I wanna get a good mentor. And what better way to do that then to strut onto campus locked 'n loaded, right?" Elliot exclaimed with a lot more enthusiasm than one might consider normal. Perhaps it was because this felt like something that was out of the norm, but Elliot truly enjoyed the idea of walking around wearing his weapons. Whether it was because they were a gift from his mother or simply a part of his way of fighting, even he could not understand why. "And it's not like there's any dust in 'em. So there's no way they could accidentally go off or anything like that. Shouldn't be a problem." Elliot stated with quite a bit of confidence now that he was thinking about the entirety of the situation. But will she get mad at me if I suddenly show up with these things on? Or would she be happy that I'm actually choosing to use them instead of something else? He thought to himself, wondering about what his mother's thoughts on the subject might be.

It did not take their airship long to dock, although the uncomfortable shifting around caused a bit of trouble. More than once he thought he might fall over. "Geez, did we get some rookie pilot or something?" Elliot complained, not realizing that Patch was a rather small island that probably did not garner that much attention. As such, it was understandable that a less experienced pilot may be bringing students from the island to Beacon. "Whatever, you got stuff in the cargo right? I'll go wait outside for you then. I've got all my stuff here." Elliot stated, patting the bag that he had thrown over his shoulder. The young man seemed to be traveling pretty light, but that was only because most of his actual possessions had been left at home here in Beacon. After reassuring Carmine that he would just be waiting on her, Elliot stepped out of the airship fully ready to begin whatever shenanigans he was going to come up with. That was... until he saw the two people outside the ship waiting for him to come out. His eyes sort of drooped slightly as one of them spoke.

"Elliot Goodwitch?" One of the men asked, wearing a rather nice uniform.

"Yeah... that's me." Elliot stated, rather heartbroken all of a sudden.

"Good, we're here to escort you to campus as requested by Professor Goodwitch."

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ Locked and loaded... She said it herself. Everyone was going to be showing off the first day, prepared for anything. It would probably be wise to set a good first impression. Here Carmine was thinking that halfway was going to cut it! The City of Vale was right outside and soon she'd be at Beacon Academy. If she was going to stand out, or better yet, fit in, the doing things mildly would not serve her well. I should get set up, too. There's no telling how the opening ceremonies are going to go, but if we're going to be proving our mettle, best be prepared for it! "Right!" she agreed, beaming. The airship would probably be docked long enough for her to equip the rest of her gear before everyone exited. Her armor was pretty light, so it was easy enough to get on. Carmine's contemplation was abruptly stopped by some rocking of the airship. Her focus immediately centered on keeping her center of balance straight, almost falling herself. Elliot's speculation surprised her.

"It's not normally like this?" she asked, her expression holding a bit more shock than it should have. Granted, Carmine hadn't expected so many bumps on a ride with no road friction. She was almost disappointed that her first experience on an airship was so shaky, but meeting another freshman so nice made up for that. "That's almost a relief, heh." He'll probably have to head out at this point, huh? If Elliot hasn't been here in some time, it'd probably be nice to catch up with some of his friends. That's fine, though! I didn't expect to even be able to talk to anyone until I got to Beacon. She was going to say something along the lines of "I'll catch ya later," but Elliot actually offered to wait on her to grab her things. "A-are you sure? It might take a couple minutes. I don't want to hold you up or anything." Besides, she was a little worried about what he'd do if he was idle for too long. He didn't seem like he minded, though, so she supposed it was fine... How lucky of me to have met someone so nice already! Mom would be glowing if she knew.

The line took longer than expected. It was a good three or four minutes before Carmine was able to get the rest of her luggage. The wait made her decide against going all out, so she stayed in her current clothes, a jacket, simple shirt, and skirt than changing into her armor. It'd be rude to make Elliot wait any longer than he had to. She took her suitcase and the large metal case carrying her other weapons with a nod and headed for the exit. There were a couple people outside with the young man. Had they been waiting to meet him? If that was the case...they'd been waiting on her as well. "Friends of yours?" she asked asked as she approached, smiling at the cleanly dressed pair before turning back to Elliot. At least nothing ridiculous happened when I turned around. Can't take that letter for granted, though...
