Al was curious how he stood against one of the stronger hunters he knew. He had no hope to win but to fight and hopefully learn something from it. He checked the time on his watch then looked again for the sun and his impossible to ignore weapon.

Al's offer to spar had been a mild surprise, but not a bad one. Training was always good, and the younger man might be looking to test his skills. "Hey," Jordan said, as he approached, giving Al a friendly smile. "What's up? Should i be going easy on you today?"

"No, give me all you've got," Al assured as he took on a fighting stance right away. "I'd be offended if you held back at all."
He rushed in as fast as he could and swung Nuru right off.
"I'll be giving you all I've got, after all." He assured as the weapon connected a lot stronger than he thought he would.

Jordan summoned as Al charged, a little startled; he hadn't expected Al to attack right away. It was good initiative, anyway. The smack stung a little; he knocked Nuru away with Ferros's haft, almost gentle.

Al jolted back at the block and then shifted the staff in his hand to swing again from a different direction.
He was surprised to find that one connected too.

It was clear that Al was taking this spar seriously, and Jordan grinned at him, pleased. Nuru connected again, and this time Jordan let the momentum sway him to one side, then brought Ferros back around in a retaliating hit. "Good," he told Al.

Al rattled at the hit. He wished he could say that being hit by Ferros was like being hit with a pillow - but actually it was more like being hit by a freight train. You didn't entirely expect it, and every bone in your body felt like it was rattled to dust after. His hands almost felt numb inside as he gripped Nuru harder.
He spun from Jordan's attack and stole his momentum to fuel his own for an even harder crack with Nuru. The staff felt surprisingly solid.
Good was okay. He was aiming for better, though.

Al's return blow was solid, powerful, backed by muscle and intent. Jordan let it drive him back a couple of steps; the pain of impact was strong but brief, blooming and vanishing again as their Fear shield took the brunt of the damage. They sidestepped, spun, and brought Ferros around in a hard arc. If Al was going to take this spar seriously and ask them not to go easy, they wouldn't.

Shock. It was the first thing that ran through Al's mind as he suddenly found himself flying through the air from the very direct hit he'd just sustained. He gasped as he hit the floor and scrambled to get back up, now out of close range. Just far enough to -
Nuru's runes were already glowing brightly and Al swiftly took careful aim with the staff just in time for the violet flames to pour from the "mouth" in a violent burst.

The roar of bright violet flame wrapped around them, searing and brilliant and startling. Now and then they met someone else with a fire-based charge, but it never quite stopped being a surprise. A significant portion of their shield burned away, and when Nuru's fire ceased, Jordan was laughing as he shook it off. He'd offered to go easy on Al, but it was looking increasingly possible that his younger friend could take this spar.
They returned fire with fire; when Ferros arced back at Al, he was cloaked in a brilliant burst of flame himself.

Al laughed with both surprise and amusement as he was blasted with a taste of his own medicine. He could feel his shield starting to weaken and stop just short of giving way. He'd forgotten what Ferros was like.
Still.
Slowly, he shifted his legs under him, got back on his feet and gathered himself up and every last ounce of strength he had both in his body and his weapon. Nuru was whining delightedly, it had been a while since they had a fight so hard, so close.
He gave his weapon a look and then charged in one last time to give Jordan all he had left to give. Win or lose. This spar had been satisfying and he would treasure every bit of its memory.

Jordan angled Ferros and moved to block the hit, but just slightly too slowly; they took the full brunt of it, and to their surprise, they felt the shield shatter under the force of this final desperate swing. Ferros desummoned as Jordan skidded back, barely keeping his balance. He held his hands up, laughing delightedly. "We give, we give! You're on fire today. Literally."

Exhausted, Al slowly but carefully unfolded onto the ground. His limbs sprawled out limply as he laid across his back on the dirt. His weapon de-summoning to his wrist on purpose with a bright flash of violet light. He drew his left arm in so he could give the bracelet an appreciative stroke.
You did really good, he assured the weapon. He ignored the happy pants and needed assurances that followed. Yes, he was a very good boy, but he did not need to tell Nuru every two minutes.
He dazedly peered over at Jordan and then thrust a fist in the air, "woo! Good fight!"
And then the fist slumped back against the ground.
No one was ever going to believe him about this one. Not even Noah.

"Good fight," Jordan agreed, and rubbed his side where the staff had landed at the end. "We're going to have a bruise for a good ten minutes, probably." He didn't seem upset about the prospect, and extended a hand to help Al up if he wanted it.
Ferros grumbled wordlessly and lazily about having been beaten by a weaker weapon, but he wasn't genuinely upset either. They both liked Al well enough not to resent his win.
