The Life hadn't been kidding when he'd warned the young woman that any booze he had available to him would fall under the category of hard. He had a few different bottles at his disposal, and not a one could be considered a gentle sort of drink. Usually he had some sort of mixer on hand, or Ever did, and today wasn't much different. He had a big bottle of water in one hand, and in the other, a bottle of vodka and half a bottle of 7-Up. It gave them options.

As he got to the trainee's room he slowed to a stop, tapping on the frame of her door with the toe of his shoe before letting himself in. "Honey, I'm home."

Auburn brows came up barely a second after that as he took in the tangle of blankets at his feet, and, barely visible, a few wayward body parts sticking free from the numerous folds. "Wow, you weren't kidding, huh?" He said with a chuckle, setting the bottles down on the nearest flat surface to free up his hands.

Wading in, he searched until he found Sonja's waist, and then sank his hands into the blankets to loop his arms around her so he could draw her up from the sea of fabric. A little bounce let him situate her in his arms better. "No more wallowing."

The best thing about hoarding yourself inside of a large pile of blankets is that you could still use your phone and take naps pretty easily. And it gave perfect pockets for her legs to stick out just enough to give her body the perfect temperature for optimum comfort.

She barely flinched at the sound of someone entering her room. The voice was unmistakable and brought the hint of a smile to her lips.

" I only kid when it counts... " She let the word dribble past her lips as she shifted just enough for the top of her rosy head to peek up from the blankets to blink a lazy emerald eye at the other. Honestly, what would she really gain from lying?

A noise bubble up in her throat at the feeling of Zeke encircling his arms around her waist. Nothing of discomfort but more of a low grunt at the sudden shifting of her weight. She couldn't help in keeping her eyes shut for a little while longer before peeking through with a squint.

" Mmmm..." Her sunset leggings were scrunched down midway her calf while her pastel emerald shirt flowed far past her knees was content in keeping it's crinkles from her earlier nesting in the blankets.

" I heard you brought stuff. " She curled closer before craning her head just enough to catch a glimpse of a few bottles.

He had to wonder if she'd already gotten into some booze, for the lazy way she lolled in his arms as he shifted her weight, but he couldn't smell it on her. Just a tired girl, with a case of the homesick blues. "I did bring stuff," he confirmed, turning so she could see the bottles and cups sitting on her nightstand. "Hope you like vodka and sprite." If not, she was a little out of luck.

With a soft, amused hum he waded into the blankets again so he could take a seat on the bed with the bubble gum pink trainee on his lap.

With all the care of of someone used to delicate infirmary work, he plucked lightly at the leggings crawling up her calves so he could draw them down, back into smoothness. When he was finished, that hand rested lightly on her knee. "So what's wrong, sweetheart?" She'd told him the gist of it, but some people liked to talk things out. Other's likes to drink their woes away. And still others preferred to sink into the feel of another person's body. Zeke was no stranger to any of these cooping mechanisms.

She resisted the immediate urge to grab and hug the bottles close. They'd eventually drink away the somber memories and reduce her emotions to mush that she could deal with when the holidays rolled back around.

" Hun, I'm down for anythin' that burns and erases these damned feelings. " The light chuckle echoed into her words as she better situated herself in the other's lap.

It was weird but... Oddly comforting. For someone to take care of her. She was used to filling that role so often that she didn't often get to be on the receiving end of such treatment. Sonja couldn't help herself as she reclined back against the other, her back nestling against their chest and watched the other correct her disheveled stockings.

" Mmm... Just missin' the kids back home. " She stared down at her cupped hands. " I took up this whole thing to protect them... And I worry every single, ********' day if they're alright, y'know? "

He chuckled faintly into the top of her pale pink head before settling his chin there, arms looping around her waist to draw her back against him before loosing, palms resting lightly on the tops of her thighs. "All in good time," he promised, voice a low rumble, the base of it vibrating through his chest. "And whatever you need." Alcohol to start, at the very least.

He couldn't exactly say he knew how she felt, but all the same, he attempted to place herself in her shoes. There wasn't anyone back home he had to worry about too much. He parents, but he hadn't seen them in some years, even before he'd signed up with Deus. Tucked away in Salt Lake City, be'd always imagined they'd be safe enough.

However, there were people he had in his life now that he would have worried over if he was parted from them. When they'd been stuck on that island, He'd worried over Harley. Anytime they were on a mission, he worried over her and Ever. And now, Lex and Nick as well.

"Have you considered asking someone in Death if they could look into their well being? We can't check on our families directly, but perhaps they continue to monitor them." It was still a long shot, but it was worth asking, he thought.

It had been a thought. Distant but still there. She had wondered about whether she could get updates on whether the children and the rest of her gang were doing alright. It would have helped her sleep at night, at the very least. But she also didn't know too much about how much man power her own division would put towards it. When it came to those she loved and protected, she could get a little obsessive about the details...

" Well, I could do it myself but I gotta know if they're eatin' alright and no one is pushin' them around. " If she found out any of the other gangs had started any internal fighting... She clenched her hands before releasing an audible sigh.

" I've gotta look more into it... I left'em with my second in command so I've got faith in them but I don't ********' trust anyone outside of the gangs. "

She knew the city back home just as much as anyone growing up amongst all that concrete would. And Sonja knew of the cruelty of those that walked their streets. It made her fears and worries that much worse when she dwelled on them.

" ... I need some a' that stuff you brought... Please. " Her hand strayed to lay the back of her hand on top of one of his.

He felt her tense, how deeply that protective nature ran, and there wasn't a whole lot of comforting words he could offer her beyond sweet sounding lies, and Zeke wasn't in the nature of lying. "You shouldn't do it yourself, though." When she lay her hand on his he shifted it, turning his own hand over so he could smooth his thumb along her palm. "It'll make it harder to stay away, and you absolutely need to stay away from them." The soft, easy quality of his voice hardened briefly into something cautioning and serious.

"It's not just that we're supposed to be dead. Our very presence posses a serious threat to anyone we have a connection to." He stroked her palm again before letting her hand go so he could lean to the side to separate the cups. He poured a measure of vodka in each--two fingers--and then splashed enough sprite in both so they were half full.

"Lawrence went back to see an ex and his daughter, and they were attacked by Nest." He handed her one of the cups as he took a drink of his own. "And the little girl died as a result." One of the mans more heinous crimes.

He'd have loved to tell her they were probably all still fine, but he had no way to know that for sure. "You left them in capable hands," he finally settled on, voice returning to that soothing rumble. "You did what you could, and you're continuing to fight here."

Despite how true his words were, it didn't do much to ease the jumbled up emotions of worry and anger. The gentle caressing of her palm and deep rumbling voice however began to slowly chip away at her in getting her shoulders to loosen back up and for her to fall back against the other once more.

" ... I see. " She leaned along with Zeke. " It just... It sucks. It sucks to know that I can't directly help them. I can't... "

She accepted the cup before taking a hearty swig of the drink. She needed to swallow down the words that threatened to overtake her mouth all together. It burned all the way down but it was pleasant... Dulled a bit by the soda. It was nice.

" The last thing I want... Is for anyone of 'em to die. Those kids go through enough on the daily... " Another drink. " And I can only hope Drake is up to fillin' my shoes back home. "

" 'Specially while I'm here, fightin' the good fight, eh? " She lifted her drink just a bit before taking one more swig and settling it in her lap.

He'd let her talk, venting her worries and her frustrations to him. Zeke could be a good listener, it was one of his better traits. As was a keen perception, and the subtle loosening of tense shoulders had not gone unnoticed.

Another drink, and then he was settling his chin on the top of her head again, free hand seeking out her own so he could continue the mindless, idle stroke of his fingers across her palm and the lengths of pale fingers. More a massage, now, than just the soft touch it had been before he'd poured them drinks.

"But you are doing something," he murmured reasonably. "You're helping to make sure monsters and horsemen aren't running rampant." It sounded placating, but that was the point. "Like you said, they go through enough on the daily, they don't need any other crazy s**t going after them, and you're keeping that from happening. It's important."

Still, no matter how reasonable his counter points might be, he knew there was only so much he could say that might be even the least bit comforting to her immediate worries. But maybe he could shift her priorities back to her duties as a hunter.

"If you hide away in here worrying, then whose out there fighting the crazy s**t?"

One more gulp and she found herself finishing off her cup with a pleasant buzzing running through her veins and clouding her brain. And the more Zeke talked, the more her worries slowly began to fade. Not completely but to a point where she didn't feel like such a sad sack.

" True... " A long sigh escaped her before shuffling a bit more to lean her head back against the other's shoulder. She had made a promise to keep those streets clean as much as she could, she was still keeping it. The enemies were just different. And such didn't see much in the way of 'negotiations' ahead of them like she had with the other gangs.

" Yeah... Yer right. Holidays just suck without the usual gang around... But I'll try'n keep that in mind next time the ol' 'jolly' times roll back around. " She left the cup in her lap to extend her free hand up and cup Zeke's cheek.

" Thanks fer listenin' to my whinin' and s**t... " She ran her thumb along the top of his cheek with a smile before giving him a gentle pat on the head. " Not too many got the patience fer that... "

Following her lead, he tipped his own cup back to drain the rest of it. Not his usual speed for drinking, but after putting the empty cup on the nightstand it did free up his other hand. So when she reached up to cup his cheek, thumb stroking feather light against his skin, thick fingers circled loosely around that narrow wrist.

He'd turn his head to murmur into her hair, voice a touch softer. "More than you'd think, but I'm a good listener." Impartial, but genuinely interested, even if that interest came just as much from curiosity as it did caring. The latter was still new to the Life.

The pat to the head made him laugh, light abd abused, but he used that soft hold on her wrist to draw her arm back down and forward. "It'll get easier, the holidays. You'll find people here that'll be your family." Setting both her hands back on her lap, he looped his arms around hers in a loose hold, pressing her back against his chest. She was smaller than Ever, smaller than Harley. Shawn right petite compared to what he was used to.

"Do you want a refill?" They could keep driving, abd he'd keep pace. Even if the speed with which they'd finished off the first round left him warm and heavy feeling. Not buzzed, yet, but a prelude to it, for sure.

The electrical vibration that she was feeling from the booze with a welcome relaxant. A contented hum rumbled in her chest as she was situation against the other's chest again with the care of handling a fragile doll. It was funny to think about seeing who she was and all. She stretched her legs out, the hum stretching down to her toes.

" Mmm... I can see that. " It was a good trait to have. Especially with what they all seemed to do for jobs now.

" Yeah... Kinda started findin' one already... Present company included, of course. " It was a more spread out one than she was used to but Nash, Dottie... She even considered the Kai guy to be like family. And now Zeke. It was better than she was expecting. " It's a start, that's for sure. "

" Please, if you don't mind... " A hand went and held the cup up with a languid smirk.

He gave her a squeeze, pressing his cheek to her's so stubble tickled along her skin, and maybe she'd feel the muscles in his face move as he smiled just before he lay a kiss on her temple. "Well that's good." Their meetings up to this point might have been brief and far between, but Zeke had to admit he carried a fondness for the girl. She was unique, strong and independent, and she knew what it meant to live.

Strong arms loosened so he could take her cup and set it beside his own, and he refilled both, first the vodka, and then the Sprite. One of which he handed back to Sonja. The other he'd keep, but it was held out in a meaningful sort of way that suggested he was waiting for he to tap her's against his.

"To settling in?" Because that was what was going on here, as he saw it. Sonja hadn't yet managed to shake off the threads of her past that clung to her enough to make this place the home that Zeke knew it could be.

Sonja had wondered if this was what she had been missing. Someone to just comfort her and listen to her gripe about her feelings of being homesick and overly worried about the ones she left behind. Having had the weight of worries on her shoulders for her gang had been something she had gladly accepting but now she had to shift that weight. To making sure she could provide a world in which those kids could grow up and live normal lives... Make homes of their own. Create bonds from themselves.

Something she was going to have to do for herself here. After all, she wasn't exactly alone here.

The closest of her emerald eyes closed at the gentle nuzzling to her face, a light chuckle bubbled up at the subtle touch of stubble to her cheek and the gentle peck just beside the previously closed eye. The way he treated her... Sonja couldn't help but start feeling more at home.

She knew she could be a right pain in the a** and she often thought more of others than herself. But when it came to moments like this... Zeke has, so far, been someone able to get her to open more up about herself and just- Get her. Understand her. Help her understand herself.

Her fingers wrapped around the middle of the cup with a soft smirk, tapping the edge of her cup to his.

" To settlin' in. " She rested her head back once again against the warm solid wall of Zeke's chest before taking a good swig of her drink.

The grin turned up a notch as Sonja tapped her cup to his, and joined her in taking a long drink. Then, after she'd settled a little more comfortably again, he'd murmur to her to hang onto her drink, which was all the warning she'd get before he was uncurling his arm from around her so he could use it to help slid his way back along her bed until his back was resting against the wall, long legs stretched out in front of him, and her slipping easily between his thighs.

"There, now isn't that better?" He could still reach the bottle, when they needed it, and now they were both comfortable. Win win.

There was a moment, Zeke squirming just a bit as he adjusted his shoulders, and then one of her pillows behind his back, and then he'd go still, his free hand, the one covered in aging burn scars, returning to lay lightly at her hip.

"Anything else you'd like to talk about?" Dark brows arched, and he tipped his head to see her profile. "Anything you'd like to ask?" She'd shared quite a bit with him, but as of yet, he hadn't returned the favor.
