Weather: Sunny and seasonably crisp!
It was funny how the fruits of summer lasted into fall. Or, at least, decided to pop up when it wasn't the right season.
Zeke hummed along to a song on his phone while he prepared the necessary paperwork for the Guardian soon to arrive, smile gracing his lips as prominently as ever while he did so. As he shuffled papers together and stapled them together he paused just a moment to again take in the information already provided in the manila folder on his desk. Nina - who had a last name he was sure he had botched HORRIBLY upon calling to give the good news - had captured herself a blackberry's soul and paired it with Southern Moss. The Raevan in question had come out a girl which delighted him to no end as the Guardian to a girl Raevan himself.
It also led him to once again consider the possibilities of what the Soul and Essence had created.
For instance...Was the Frei's soul a garden-grown blackberry bush or had Nina chanced upon a wild running cousin? If the latter, would the Raevan look rather wild herself? He immediately thought of some punk-leaning friends from college who had gone through their semesters clad in leather and studded more than six ways to Sunday. Blackberries did have thorns did they not? But then again, if this girl's soul had been "garden variety" would she be more demure, but with prickly aspects not only to her physique but her personality? And what would the Essence have to offer? Something as curious as Southern Moss was sure to lend some interesting quirks to say the least!
Man oh man, he really couldn't wait to meet this one!

"Uh... Nina?"
Noah has a spectacular way of breaking the silence. Nina jerked toward him and glowered, causing the man to tense up and refrain from questioning the brunette further. However, Nina knew his concern was justified; they'd been stewing in an uncomfortable silence for fifteen minutes since Noah pulled up in front of the lab. As soon as the teacher saw the building, all thoughts and movement stymied, and Nina longed for someone she was more familiar with.
It wasn't that she disliked Noah; far from the truth, actually. He was a good guy who sacrificed much to drive her around. He simply... lacked... the basic tact required for comfort. If Remi or her dad were there, the air would be light with their jests and encouraging words, and she'd have more confidence going in. Heck, even Cynthia-Maria, despite her reservations regarding her new grandchild, would say something to get her out of the vehicle and into the building.
But all she had was Noah. Tactless extraordinaire.
I'm... just letting my frustrations out on him, Nina thought, eyeing him from the side. He's not to blame for how I'm reacting... Eugh. I feel a little shitty now.
Nina let a out a breath, causing Noah to jump slightly. It was the first sound to fill the now twenty minutes of silence between them. Nina looked to him apologetically, but Noah seemed incapable of reading her expression.
"Hey, Noah?" Nina asked him. "Do you... think I'd make a good mom?" It was the one question that weighed her down like a ball-and-chain. Nina just... wasn't sure.
Nor did Noah. He floundered around like a fish out of water for a beat, before smiling sheepishly and scratching the back of his neck. "Er, ahh..." he began. "Yea? I-I mean, yea, of course you will be, Nina! You're a teacher and they're... kinda... like moms, right?"
Nina withheld a laugh. Instead, she shook her head with a smile, and said, "Thanks, Noah. I needed that." Noah's words were hardly comforting, but it was his own way of telling her she would be fine. Nina couldn't ask for more.
She then reached for the passenger side door and pushed it open, descending from the beige pickup with a light clop of her boots to the asphalt before making her way toward the lab. The lab's interior had the feeling of, well, a lab; sterile and mysterious. The teacher almost wanted to poke her nose in further and get a better look, but she was there to meet Zeke, so the objective remained a steadfast concentration in her mind.
He wasn't hard to find; stack of papers and folders likely meant that was him. Nina mustered up her friendliest smile, and shot her one hand out to greet the man. "Hi, hello!" she said smoothly. "I'm Nina. You called me a while ago? About the Raevan?" She didn't add the extra bit of, "Where are they?" but her eyes danced with the desire to know.

He had been bent over when Nina strode into the Lab, preoccupied with picking up a pen that had rolled off his desk and onto the floor, but the chimes ringing out over the door were unmistakable, as were the clop of boots on tile and the subsequent greeting that followed. Zeke righted himself immediately then, smile spreading from ear to pierced ear as he took in the woman who stood before him with her hand outstretched.
"I did indeed!" The vet took the hand that was stuck out and shook it firmly but warmly. "I'm Zeke, it's nice to finally meet you, Nina!"
When they released the shake he tipped his hand toward the seats in front of his desk, not at all missing that look in Nina's eyes that all but screamed 'where is my kid, you goofy looking dude'. It only made his smile grow - he was always all the more eager when a Guardian proved to be just as much so to meet their newborn.
"Please, have a seat if you'd like! Would you like something to drink maybe? Or would you rather we skip all that and get right to the fun stuff?"
Eager is as eager does - he wouldn't mind skipping pleasant formalities if that's what the lovely lady wanted!
