Pyro didn't often check in with superiors now that he was a half youma.
It had been long overdue for him to give a reporting to his superior Captain Zircon, who as he looked for in the database, recently became a General which was a real shame cause he was technically a captain and he would've love to gloat his same rank over her.

Plus, he was a half youma so that made him better right?

Instead, a call was sent out to the general of where they were suppose to meet for the check in and the snake half youma man just kicked gently at a rock in the rift space.

he had better things to do then do this. Like...ANYTHING but this.

For some time, Zircon had been avoiding Captain Pyrophanite.

Not that she'd admit it, of course--same distinctions or otherwise, she knew who the better captain was, and with his promotion, he simply would have to report to someone else for his quotas, perhaps bother whatever unfortunate lieutenant had made enough mistakes to land themselves assigned under his command. But she'd seen him at Laurelite's awakening as queen and known that he'd gone and done something terrible to himself, and it was nothing she wanted a part of, even by association.

Still, being a General came with responsibilities, including checking in on rowdy captains that may or may not have been human anymore. Lucky her.

Zircon made her way up to the arranged meeting place, squaring her shoulders and putting on her best unimpressed scowl. Mostly she walked as smoothly as anyone else, but to the trained or observant eye she carried herself a little heavy on the left, tiny hiccups in her gait as she walked. "Pyrophanite," she called out with no particular friendliness, glancing him down and up so she wouldn't have to fixate on what looked like scales on the backs of his hands. "I presume you have the quotas from your lieutenants?" She did not flash him a smile, but her eyes crinkled slightly, remembering fondly the time she'd slam dunked his torso into the ground. Those were simpler days.

Pyro was currently sitting on one of the rift's rocks now, playing with a starseed in his hands. The mask he made to hide the snake scales was in his free hand, resting against his leg. A the general got closer, his face turned and looked over at her.

He didn't have snake eyes sadly, so pretty blues that were surrounded by auburn curls were what he was working with. Instead scales decorated his cheeks and face in a light dusting and they trailed from his cheeks down his neck (which in his uniform was hardly noticable) and down to his hands.

He had scales in all the weirdest spots.

"Lookie who made general and is still stuff as s**t!" Pyro grinned, as he hopped off and moved closer to the smaller woman. "I don't have lieutenants. Think you would've known that being a general and all." he popped the starseed in his mouth and bit down on it with a loud crunch. "I got my quota though, and if you got a problem well, it's not like I answer to anyone else."

Zircon bristled, resting a hand on her collar to keep her shoulders from jumping all the way to full alert. "And look who's still as insufferable as ever," she snapped back, her eyes narrow and focused on his, trying her best to ignore where scales dusted his cheeks, his necks, his hands. Pyrophanite's fate should have been no threat to her--he was a terrible officer, and deserved the state he was in, however it had been earned. She was nothing like that. All the same, she grimaced at the sound of the starseed's crunch, her mouth set into a thin and disapproving frown.

He didn't have to be so on-display about how he was broken.

"Good, maybe some of our new recruits won't come out quite so terrorized," Zircon huffed, tapping the crystal floor with her good set of toes. She started to hold out an expectant hand for his quota, but her fingers quivered and shook, so she folded her arms back in on themselves, eyes darting away. Of all places, she could not afford to share her nervous tremors here.

"As long as you have your quota, I don't care who you answer to," she grumbled through her tight-set jaw. It would have been so easy, to reach for his chest, to lash out against his smart mouth, but there were no lessons to be learned here. Zircon would be proving nothing except that she lacked patience, and that would be letting Pyrophanite win. Instead, she stewed, trying to ignore the glint of the ambient light across scales.

Pyro just paused in her whole amazing train of thought she was struggling with.

his eyes narrowed as her blobby heat shape was missing something very important.

"Oi General Zircon." he moved even closer, his blue eyes looking at the cold object attached where her leg was suppose to be.

"You missing a leg?" He grinned, looking back up at her. "Somebody must've reallllllllllllly disliked you."

Zircon seethed under the captain's gaze, frozen as he started to grin. Her hard expression was a challenge, a threat, a silent order to back down, but he wasn't looking at her eyes. Her skin crawled when he spoke her name, unable to find comfort in the general moniker.

And then he said it, and her posture withered, arms folding in on herself as she shrank away from his gaze. She gulped, regained her composure, and with a sharp exhale she lifted her missing leg and swung, aiming the metal bar of her shin for his torso.

"Not as much as someone disliked you when they did--whatever happened to you," she hissed, arms up to balance her posture. Let him win on the matter of her patience. She had a roundhouse kick that could break ribs.

Pyrophanite felt like he struck gold.

Like he mined the missing jewel of gods from california.

Like he had won a trophy for getting back at the captain.

That was until the not warm blob came towards him. His reaction speed wasn't on par with a generals, so the breath was firmly knocked out of him and he was pushed back a foot.

"Ssssssheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet." He breathed out, gripping his stomach from pain. "Wow touchy subject for the general." He snorted out and then casually picked himself up. "I mean Half youma's are better then half crippled."

So there.

Zircon felt the ugly rise of anger in her throat, like when she'd fought Prissy, only this time there was no casserole and no pretense of civility to share between officers of equal rank. "And yet, which of the two of us is the superior officer here?" she snapped, her voice pulled taught like a wire. He didn't deserve this kind of reaction from her, she was better than this, and yet he somehow managed to trip over every single one of her nerves whenever she was so unlucky as to require his presence.

It was a nightmare, to feel so out of control of her own emotions. Maybe she just had too many buttons to push.

"It's only a matter of time before someone goes and finishes whatever they started with you." Zircon crossed her arms, her mouth twisted into a frown. "I'm not the one with half a life."

"I live life pretty well oh great general of the half legged." New title for her and she was so angry and that was kind of funny.

To be honest, upsetting her was worth any pain to come at him.

"I'm surprised the negaverse like....lets you walk around like that! I mean I guess they kind of have too. Let you, not help you walk or whatever, probably care less about that."

He waited, "Oh wait you mean Snakey? I'm sure once I hit general, which will be soon, They'll have more then they have for you." He coughed into his hand.

"So like, How'd you lose it? Fall in a bear trap, lose it to someone in order? I didn't know they'd be so vicious. I mean to be honest, how are you gonna fight them now, they just gonna grab your metal leg and pop it off or something like -pop-" He made the sound with his mouth.

"Oh, I have no doubt that playing the part of half an animal has suited you just fine," Zircon scoffed, grinding her teeth as he mentioned it out loud again. Oh great general of the half legged. It felt like nails on a chalkboard, if the chalkboard was representative of her safety and dignity, and Pyrophanite was that tinny, scratchy sound personified. He was too stupid to know the danger she was put in by drawing attention to her setback, but his ignorance made him no less dangerous to her career, and he only sometimes responded to the threat of pain. What could she do, to put the reins on someone with nothing left to lose?

He mentioned being a general soon and her stomach curdled. Whatever she had to do, she was blocking that paperwork with every power she had.

"It was a compression fracture with inoperable nerve damage, it had to be removed," Zircon muttered flatly, hoping that perhaps the truth would ward off this detestable beast of a boy. At least discussing it in such clinical terms helped to calm her down, letting her breathe through the sides of her locked jaw. "It doesn--it doesn't just pop off like that, that's not how it works." Zircon's prosthetic leg was no more easily removed than her natural one, with the way it had been fitted and tethered to her body, and the proposition he'd suggested was outright absurd and offensive. But perhaps that was precisely what he'd been looking for, to get a rise out of her, and before she could say anything else laced with poison she forced herself to let out one long-suffering sigh.

She was better than this.

"And what's your excuse? Were you somebody's project or did you manage to go and ruin yourself on your own?" Zircon sneered at his scales because it was a stronger reaction than the horror and pity that wafted around in her chest. It was a strange and terrible fate, to be stuck between humanity and an endless tenure as an unknowing creature. Pyrophanite was the first person she might have thought deserved it.

"Somebody sounds jealoussssss~~~" He cooed, "Rather be half animal then half a person, though. I think I'm just a bit more useful in the world."

Since he couldn't really let go of her, "Wait, I got it, ready, I'm just pulling your leg general." HUR HAR HUR. what a knee slapper. "Wait that's a KNEE SLAPPER."

Oh my god he was on fire.

"That sounds like a fancy of way of saying you're leg got ******** up and couldn't be saved." He would've felt bad but nothing was as bad as sharing a body with a youma so....he didn't.

"Not that it's any of your business...." He scratched at one of his scales, "I went to the rift to get my youma and a youma got me instead. Spent a week being super sick or whatever and popped out like this." He dug around in his jacket for another starseed and pulled it out, popping it in his mouth. "S'not so bad."

Actually it was really bad but he didn't need the little blondie filling out any s**t on him that would deter the higher ups from his promotion.

"Hardly." Zircon snorted and clenched her fists, trying not to think of the dreams where she'd found herself with talons instead of hands. Pyrophanite was a nightmare, a fate worse than death, even if he chose not to ruminate on the ultimate implications of his existence. How could he have known? He had never been charged with tending to someone melting out of their own skin, half formed and half living.

She started to feel pity, just for a moment, but it immolated instantly in the screeching fire caused by the phrase pulling your leg. There was no reasoning with this monster, not when his goal was not to be reasonable but just to do the most damage possible. Zircon nearly choked on the sigh she forced through her lungs to calm herself.

Pyrophanite was the worst.

"Oh, you mean you went headfirst into the Rift without backup and ended up biting off more than you could chew? That sounds in-character." Her mouth pursed when she saw him eat another starseed, giving him a hard stare as she held out a hand. "Too many of those and you'll be someone's pet by the end of the day. Quota. Now." She'd threaten to make him her own personal youma, but she didn't hate herself quite that much.

Pyrophanite would spin it another way. He wasn't a nightmare.

He was a blessing.

"Or you could be my pet." He crossed his arms and reached into the jacket, pulling out the various orbs of energy and the small handfuls of starseeds.

"There you go General, is there anything else I can help you with?" He batted his eyelashes at her.

"I think I'll pass, thanks." Zircon's hands didn't linger near Pyrophanite's--once she felt the warmth of the quota, she ducked away, like if they touched some of the scales would rub off on her instead. She knew he was doing it on purpose, and it was infuriating, but no amount of rage could calm the way her stomach turned when she looked at those strange markings or felt the erratic signature of his aura. The only thing she could try to do is take the high ground, as she was still his superior officer, and beyond such petty squabbling.

"No, you are relieved," she said with gritted teeth, pocketing away the energy for her own submission to one of the general-sovereigns. The general turned on her good heel, eager to be out of the Rift and away from the captain.
