Huni: Admittedly it would be almost two weeks before Joy would return to the library. She wasn't a fast reader to start. And while the first book from the suggested volumes Cassie had given her was more short story than novel, Joy had to take several breaks to catch her breath from laughing too hard. The two-part novels on the other hand...

Joy walked into the library in search not for more smutty literature but for Cassie. Because Joy had some questions and she was curious enough to want answers.

-----

Carhop: Joy would find Cassie, as everyone looking for her would, lounging in her armchair. No, it didn't have Cassie's name on it, and she would totally not make someone leave the seat, but if it was open? Cassie was in it. Currently she was browsing through what looked like a cosmetics magazine, something the library wouldn't have. She immediately noticed Joy, but stayed seated, burying her face deeper in her magazine to hide the pink blush that crept up her cheeks.

-----

Huni: When Joy spotted the other woman, she would have called out to Cassie had she not remembered they were in the library. Also they looked like they were super into whatever they were reading. While that usually meant someone shouldn't be disturbed, Joy figured that if the Death hunter didn't want company she could just say a quick hi and come back at a better time.

She silently made her way towards the Death hunter, a warm smile on Joy's face. There was the audible sound of cushions compressing beneath Joy's weight, indicating that she'd taken one of the plush seats closest to the currently occupied armchair. "Hey, Cassie," she whispered in greeting, waiting for the other woman to notice her.

-----

Carhop: "H-hi Joy." Cassie looked up from her magazine, keeping the blush down successfully. Thanks, universe. "Sweetie, you don't have to whisper like that. Just talk normally...like, white person normally." Because otherwise, Joy's normal was a little louder, in Cassie's opinion. She was adorable, but had all the subtlety of a bulldozer.

"How are the books treating you? Okay, I hope?" Cassie smiled nervously. With the information that Seren had given her, Cassie was expecting the worst. Hopefully, please whatever god was out there, hopefully Joy wasn't mad with her.

-----

Huni: Joy's brows knitted together in confusion at "white person normally", tried to scan her memories of American cable tv shows, she didn't think she sounded too different in terms of volume. "I'll try?" she said, tilting her head in thought, and before she could dwell on how loud or soft she was, Cassie brought up the books!

"Oh! The weird one was super funny, I might read more but not for the sexy-bits," she chuckled sheepishly, "It wasn't exactly my type of sexy." And if that was something Cassie was into, well, who was Joy to judge? "The two-parter one though," she pursed her lips, trying to articulate her opinions properly. "It was hot, was not expecting that, but are you sure it's just two books?"

-----

Carhop: Cassie definitely broke into a giggle at the comment of the dinosaur book, knowing full well that Joy would love it. "The actual story is hilarious, too. Just...wow, I can't believe someone came up with that sort of thing." She covered her mouth, giggling far too hard for her own liking. It made her look like an idiot, in Cassie's opinion; she had such a stupid laughing face.

"Um, yeah... I met Seren, and she told me you might not quite like the books." Cassie's shoulders hunched slightly. "Yeah, that story is only two books worth. The author wrote a few short stories, though. Why?"

-----

"I know! And that there are more of these books just make me happy," Joy laughed as well. She was certainly not one to judge someone for stupid-laughing-face, she'd actually encourage it. A sense of humor was important in her friends as that was one of her own coping mechanisms for the s**t Deus threw at her.

"Oh I wouldn't say I didn't like the books," Joy admitted, quieting down to a grinn even if she herself felt a little awkward about this fact. "It's not something I've read before, but you could also say that about raptor-ravishing." She may not have intentionally done it but her voice did increase in volume ever so slightly with the raptor-ravishing. "But, like, back to the girls, are you sure there's no short story where she goes back to her husband? 'Cuz, I dunno, it sounds like something you'd read in fantasy settings not contemporary ones."

-----

Carhop: "Umm..." Cassie looked off to a corner, trying to unwind her tongue from the back of her throat. How did she tell Joy about the whole lesbian thing? Hopefully, she would take it well - but at the same time, Cassie knew she would probably have the same reaction her parents did. 'It's just a phase, Cassie.' Or perhaps she would say something along the lines of 'girls being great friends.'

Cassie cleared her throat, smile faint on her face now. "Well, no. June never goes back to her husband, never has sex with him again. She discovers that she's a lesbian - that's the whole story of the book." Cassie swallowed, nervous hands wringing in her lap. "I...I identify with June, sexually, if you catch my meaning." Cassie's shoulders lifted, back straightening a bit. She wasn't ashamed of who she loved, who she was attracted to. "I'm a lesbian, you see."

-----

Huni: It was not something Joy expected to learn about Cassie. But then again, this was Deus, people tended to have a more worldlier view of life and experiences. Had this been a discovery back home she wouldn't have believed the other woman's declaration and said as much to her face. Well, she hasn't quite believed the other woman's declaration just yet. But after a talk with Seren and something of one with Kade, she managed to hold her tongue.

"Huh. Really? How old are you?" She asked instead, then added, "I'm 24. Just so that we're on even ground."

Carhop: "Twenty-one." Cassie said, curiously. Strange, that Joy would ask a question about her age when they were talking about sexually. Her chocolate eyes went wide when Joy told her age. "Really? I thought you were younger, for whatever reason." So, Joy really could have been a mom by now. Wow. Cassie wasn't wrong in assuming the whole mom bod thing. "Um, I can refer you some books that have heterosexual characters, if that's what you'd prefer."

-----

Huni: Joy mulled the number over in her head, probably out of college? How old were Americans when they usually graduated from college? The whole K12 school structure hadn't quite reached Joy's generation as it had now. At least Cassie's age meant her realization wasn't one of those "until I graduate" or "until I find the right guy" types of lesbians Joy had encountered in the past. She did giggle in delight at being thought she was younger, "You're sweet to say that. But nah, I'm old, I got recruited at twenty two. Stayed asleep for a long-a** time," she didn't want to say how long and the look on her face suggested it was not something she would want to discuss.

"You don't gotta rec books you're not really into. Chantelle's given me a huge list with the usual guy-girl. And some vampires thrown in. Also you ever hear of Fifty Shades of Gray? I thought it was a paint book thingie based on the title."

-----

Carhop: Cassie's mind turned off for a few moments, the rebooting process taking a little longer than it usually would. Fifty Shades? That's where Joy was getting her smut? Oh, whatever god existed in whatever sort of heaven, please no. Even if she and Joy parted ways and stopped being friends for whatever reason, Cassie could not let Joy read that garbage. "Fifty Shades? Oh, honey, oh no no. That's no good." Cassie tutted, putting her magazine down on the floor and inadvertently grabbing one of Joy's hands. "Please, just don't touch those books. They're horrible representations of sex, consent, and the entire BDSM community. Honestly, just don't." Cassie sighed, patting Joy's hand and letting go of it. "They got me in at 19, and I came out of the pod pretty damned fast." Cassie e shrugged. "I guess they needed a good external base scout."

-----

Huni: "I've read a bit of Fifty Shades. The sex part was kinda boring?" Joy admitted, not bothered when Cassie took her hands. "Like, the lesbian one you gave me had way hotter scenes. Does that mean the spanking bits and safewords was wrong?" Joy hadn't quite gotten it into her head to research the stuff, especially since all they had was an intranet and she didn't think Deus would have details on BDSM. "Oh! I spent a bit of time at outposts too! 'Course it was in the middle of nowhere and boring as fuuuuuuuuuuuck," she complained in exaggeration, "Where'd you get stationed?" she asked, completely forgetting that Cassie had been reading and that she might be bothering the other woman.

-----

Carhop: "No, no. Spanking and safe words are fine." Cassie flushed brightly, wishing she hadn't put the magazine down. Auuuugh this was so awkward. "The bad part is that he made her sign a contract, and like...dude, Joy, just trust me. Healthy BDSM exists, and it's not 50 Shades. Just give it back to Chantelle, honey." Cassie patted Joy's shoulder, and sighed deeply. Waaaaait a second. Did Joy say she found the lesbian sex scenes hot? That....huh. Maybe the poor girl was just very suppressed. "Would you want me to find you some more Lesbian books? I know quite a few." More blushing, but just a light pink rather than a beet red.

"Oh, god, um... I went everywhere. Mexico, Antarctica, but I spent most of my time in South Korea." Cassie smiled lightly, some remorse passing through her expression. "It was nice, we were monitoring some FEAR signatures on the outskirts of Seoul."

-----

Huni: "Oh the contract," the distaste in Joy's voice was unmistakable, "I'd rather fill out all those Mission Report forms Death keeps asking for than make one of those contracts. Like, wasn't it supposed to be this sexy cool thing? Way to make it sound boring and tedious." She brightened considerably at the offer for more books, "Sure, the sex parts of the one you recommended was really good. I wouldn't say no to more of those, buuuuut I'm not a fast reader so just uh one or two titles at a time?" she chuckled. "I've never been to South Korea, didja get to watch those K-dramas getting filmed?" she asked, grinning.

-----

Carhop: "Uh...Joy? We need those reports. You know that, right?" Chocolate eyes narrowed at the woman, but Cassie had to laugh. At least she was honest about her feelings. "No, sadly. I would have loved to see a few idols, but we were all away on foreign tours, or we just got so busy with paperwork." Paperwork, paperwork. Cassie had a love hate relationship with the stuff. It kept her occupied and far from boredom (some of the things she read in the paperwork made her ugly laugh), but it got very tedious, always. "And sure, I can get you set up with another book."

-----

Huni: Joy gave Cassie a wounded look, or her best puppy dog expression, "I do submit them! Maybe at the last minute, but I still submit them." After some prodding at the very least. "I don't envy Death for all the paperwork you gotta deal with. For sure, I'd have asked to transfer out when I got promoted because that is just not up my alley. I like moving my body more, y'know what I'm saying?" She winked. She meant sparring and working out at the gym to Air Supply or Chicago or really old cheesy love songs.

-----

Carhop: Jesus, was Joy just toying with Cassie now? Joy knew Cassie was attracted to other women, and surely Joy was aware of just how attractive she was. Then again, like Seren had said, Joy was so innocent and naive, she probably had no idea what she was doing to Cassie. "Ah, yeah, that's why you're in Moon division, right? Building and defending and all that." Cassie cleared her throat, looking at a very interesting, completely blank, spot in the corner of the room.

-----

Huni: "Yeah, I've been working out using this killer regimen my friend Rhys planned out. Sometimes I run it with him but usually I go at it alone. How about you? You got like a gym sched or do you just try to squeeze in some time in between Death duties?" she asked, turning her gaze at whatever it was Cassie was looking at. She was feeling a little worried that she was bothering Cassie now when there didn't seem to be anything of note at the spot. "Um, i-if I'm keeping you from something just lemme know?"

-----

Carhop: "What? Oh, no, Joy you're fine." Extra fine. With a side of- Ohmigod. Okay, shut up Cassie. Breathe, girl, breathe. "Sorry, I just have some stuff on my mind." Cassie sighed. She wasn't exactly lying to Joy, but she certainly wasn't giving away the full truth. "Nothing too important. Did I leave the stove on, kind of s**t." She waved a hand, brushing the thought off. "Working out? Yeah, I try to squeeze it in early in the morning. I'm not a huge fan of being watched while I work out, especially by leering men." Cassie rolled her eyes. "I mean, have some respect! Just keep your head down and work out, you know? I don't need a bunch of eyes staring at my a**."

-----

Huni: Joy looked relieved, the last thing she wanted was to be bothering her new friend. "Okay, if you're sure. I kinda went through a bit of culture shock when I got to the island. Stuff that I thought was normal and like the usual wasn't how it worked here." She gestured vaguely around her at the word here. "Hey, whenever our scheds match up, mind if we be gym buddies? I can make us breakfast afterwards. I promise it's better than what the caf usually makes," she offered.

-----

Carhop: "Well, I'm always down for breakfast." Cassie smiled at her friend, stomach actually rumbling a little. s**t, had she forgotten to eat again? God, she hated when that happened. "What was so different? I mean, I know you're from the Philippines, so that's already a huge difference from the States. But what, like, really got to you?"

-----

Huni: "Deal then," Joy beamed, she always enjoyed working out with someone else. At Cassie asking for details on what really tripped her up, she looked a little uncomfortable and it was Joy's turn to avoid eye contact. "It, well, it was kind of like we're all stuck here for a kind of job. Sure we got down time but, I dunno, like, before I met specific people lately, it felt like everyone I made "friends" with was just work friends. Not friend friends, if that makes sense?"

There was also the whole casual sex thing but oddly enough Joy felt rather shy talking about that in public.
