Hope this is okay!

As a Negaverse senshi in service to Metallia, many things were provided for: protection, job security, career opportunities. Unfortunately, Carnelian's file had been tossed around in the wind since General-King Zinkenite was no longer available to oversee the direction of his recruits. Euclase was out of town and in hiding after an unsettling Order incident and Carnelian himself had not seen the General-King in years. There must be something more important to attend to (which he understood - there were things the upper echelons needed to do that someone of his rank would not need the details for).

That being said, Carnelian disliked feeling like a leaf in the wind, unable to control when and where he went. He was still a senshi, and thus considered a second-class citizen by some of the temporary Generals under which he'd been assigned. Finally, he'd gotten the gumption to request a transfer to someone more suitable to the redhead's needs. He wanted a General more flexible in thought and approachable in manner. Maybe that was impossible, but one such General was recommended - Jet.

Carnelian had never heard of the one called Jet, but there were many Generals since he'd been inducted into the Negaverse. Requesting an audience with the General as politely as he could manage, the Negaverse senshi waited patiently in Negaspace for his arrival.

Axenite. Jet blamed General King Axenite for this. Just because he’d dragged four senshi to him to corrupt didn’t mean that he wanted to babysit the whole lot of them. Why Axenite thought he would be a good candidate to keep an eye on a fifth senshi, he had no idea. Especially since he was sure Axenite had access to his full file.

For a little while, Jet thought about ignoring the request. That would certainly get the point across that he really didn’t care to play manager for a grown man, but at the last minute, Jet figured he would show up and let this senshi named Carnelian decide for himself that this was a horrible idea.

“You’re Carnelian?” he asked as he teleported not too far away from where the man waited. He was taller than Jet, who stood only around five foot eight, with darker skin, and a mop of curly brown hair that nearly reached his shoulders. “I’m not really a fan of senshi, so whatever you’re selling, it better be good.”

A little rough, but on purpose. Mostly Jet was just wary of whatever this corrupt senshi planned to do.

Sorry about the wait!

Right down to business. I like that.

Carnelian stood up from his lounging spot on some ruin of a long-forgotten kingdom and dusted himself off, bowing to the General who was shorter than himself. Not that it mattered - size was no indication of power, and Jet was quite powerful in his own right. Youth, strength and cunning, all in one curly-haired package.

"I'm not selling anything, General Jet." came a velvety reply. "Your track record speaks for itself. General-King Axenite recommended you based on your skill and prowess. He mentioned you brought in four senshi just by yourself. That, combined with your status as General is incredibly impressive." It was an honest opinion of Jet's track record in the Negaverse. Axenite was studious in record keeping. "I was brought into the Negaverse by General-King Zinkenite, but I haven't seen him in years. Since then, I've been shuffled from one General to the next without much in the way of rhyme or reason. Do this, Carnelian. Turn in your energy. Work harder." With a resigned shrug, the redhead straightened his jacket. One must look presentable to one's superiors, after all.

With a short pause, the corrupted senshi continued. "I'm not asking for constant managerial oversight or babysitting, really. I've seen the eternals. I wouldn't mind that kind of power, but I'm painfully aware we shouldn't be running around without supervision. So, I propose a compromise, if you would be interested? I receive a General willing to touch base every so often, maybe say hello on occasion, and I work diligently to make you look better. Perhaps then I could receive a pair of those wings..."

Really, having a General that wasn't a total a*****e or completely dismissive would be fantastic in Carnelian's case. He was sure of it.

Jet didn’t like this. He didn’t like the way the man stood, he didn’t like the way he spoke, he didn’t like the praise he got, the bullshit about his skill and prowess. His jaw clenched tighter at the mention of bringing in four senshi by himself. Senshi hadn’t been the intention. He’d wanted officers, not senshi. And he’d had help. The only one he’d sought out by himself to corrupt was Citrine, and even now he felt too ashamed to face her. Rigel he’d dragged back in exchange for not killing his cousin. A impulsive decision.

Carnelian wanted more from him than Jet felt he could offer. He’d been in the Negaverse since he was fourteen, had been a General since sixteen, and yet he still felt as though he didn’t really know how to be a General. He was young and flawed and still learning. Carnelian thought to appeal to Jet’s pride, to his ego, but what the corrupted senshi didn’t know was that the only pride Jet had was what he’d built for himself, not given to him on a silver platter.

“You want power,” he concluded, because who in the Negaverse and truly loyal didn’t want power? “You want someone around to recommend you for promotion, someone to put in a good word,” he continued, watching the other man carefully. It was what was needed for corrupted senshi to be given more power, after all. Gadolinite had been promoted, Citrine would be soon to follow, and other than a recommendation, Jet felt as though he’d somehow failed them. It was difficult to work out in his head. They were senshi, but they were brought into the Negaverse by his own doing. He could have pulled their starseeds instead, but…

“I don’t want anyone to make me look better. I want to be better. I have no use for those who are just going to sing untrue praises, especially when I haven’t earned it,” Jet said, knowing that Carnelian would most likely decide this was too much of an effort and that Axinite was wrong about him.

“To set my track record straight, because it doesn’t seem to be speaking very clearly, I didn’t bring in four senshi by myself. Only two. The other two were suggested to me by General Aurostibite. Perhaps he would be more of the General you’re looking for. More experienced, more recruits…”

Well, this wasn't what he expected.

Most Generals had an ego to match their position, and justly so in most cases. Jet, however, surprised him in that the young General was a self-made man with honest uncertainty. That in an of itself made Jet more human than some of the powerhouses or the studious tacticians that had little regard for others more than pawns in their plan. While Carnelian himself was selfish to some extent, Jet's admission was... endearing. In a positive way.

"I didn't think the amount of recruits was very important," he started, fingers of one hand resting on his chin. Jet was younger, yes, and shorter, but more powerful and reserved respect. "The General-Sovereign stated you produced quality recruits in one way or another, for what it's worth. I tend to believe what the General-Sovereigns have to say, most of the time. One simply doesn't ascend to the rank of General without merit." It was a nonchalant shrug that followed. Carnelian wasn't testing Jet's resolve and wasn't calling any perceived bluff.

He rocked on his heels. "I do want power, yes, and to receive that power, a recommendation is usually required. It would behoove me to find a General willing to give that recommendation. However, as you might have read in my file, I have a wife elsewhere. I'm here to work on her behalf, as much as I can. A General without a human side would be terrible for me. General-Sovereign Axinite thought you might fit the bill, but didn't disclose your... distaste for people like me. General-Sovereign Zinkenite is too wrapped up in his own work to assist and Obsidian is... Obsidian..." A vague gesture and a frown followed.

"What are you looking for, General Jet? How can one be better?"

There were many in the Negaverse who had a distaste for the corrupted senshi. There was distrust, and for good reason, Jet thought. He had a reason to hate senshi, but he was also trying to be more open to the idea, while also not turning his back on them.

The name Obsidian had Jet tensing. He was still irritated how the General’s actions had threatened his recruits and others in the Negaverse. Many had been injured, and Obsidian didn’t seem to care. He thought it was a game for them all to play. Jet was not fond of games, nor did he think the General’s actions were at all amusing.

“Just call me Jet,” he said after the second time the senshi had used the title with him. Regardless of being made a General, Jet knew he had a lot to learn. He didn’t feel as though he earned that title yet, and he didn’t think he would ever be comfortable being called General.

“You can be better by learning, by not sitting still and letting things happen,” he said, although he was sure that answer was too simple for the other man. “I want to learn. If you have something to offer to teach me… and you’re still willing… I’ll consider offering a recommendation if you earn it and when the time comes.”

Sorry about the wait! SORRY FOR THE EDIT, KAE BROUGHT UP A GOOD POINT

Carnelian gave him a short nod. "As you wish, Jet."

The only problem came at the question of what Carnelian could possibly teach Jet? He didn't have a clue what Jet knew and what he didn't, and the redhead himself didn't think he had very many applicable skills in this case. "Well, let's see... I'm fluent in French, I'm good with paperwork, I'm a decent cook, I work in a salon, so if you or someone you know needs work done..." Now came the real sifting. Did Carnelian know anything that might be interesting to Jet?

Jet wished to be better, he wished to learn by doing. That in and of itself was an admirable trait, one that Carnelian was attempting to learn for himself. Overcoming laziness was... difficult. "I'm... not sure I could teach you anything on the battlefield that you don't already know. I can't imagine you reached the rank of General without knowing a thing or two, Jet. Generals are adept at teleportation, aren't they? And can handle youma with ease." Not that Carnelian liked to hang around them... quite the opposite. They way youma looked at him like a piece of meat with legs was incredibly unsettling.

"I apologize, Jet. I'm not sure what I could offer to you that you might find useful? I happen to know Rigel. He mentioned he reports to you, and seems to be quite satisfied with your leadership abilities."
