Carnelian was busy at work, trying to meet his quota. Energy needed to be gathered and dropped off weekly or he'd get an earful from the higher-ups. The redhead wasn't interested in having his ears tugged by a General (though he knew well enough that ear-tugging would be preferred to the actual beating he would likely receive). Therefore, Carnelian had already drained two joggers, one after the other, in the park. It was a quiet evening, though he couldn't tackle the younger woman before she screamed. It was cut short, abruptly, and she was laid down gently on the grass.
At least he left them away from the road, knowing what might happen to the young woman. Still, her donation was appreciated. Now onto bigger things. That quota wasn't going to fill itself!
The corrupted senshi straightened his coat and was redoing his braid. It served better to lure people to him if he didn't look a fright. The wind was picking up periodically, spraying his lovely crimson hair in all directions. How many bobby pins did he bring in subspace? Sigh.

It took some convincing to assure Julian that he was just running to his tattoo parlor to get something he forgot as the other didn't really seem to want him to leave. The night was cold, and his roommate didn't seem to like the idea at all of him heading out, especially alone. They both knew just how dangerous Destiny city could be once the sun fell so the concern wasn't unwarranted but... Every so often, Roderick did want to do things on his own. And tonight was one of those nights.
Rumors of multiple drainings happening near their neighborhood were surfacing again, people waking up in the dark and in the cold and suffering from onset hypothermia. Maybe before there was nothing he could do about it, but now that he was Manu and back in his right mind he could at least patrol a little while... And while he was out, he'd stop and grab a small gift for Julian, maybe to explain why he was out so late.
He was glad he did go out; only a few minutes after powering up in the park when he heard a scream that was distant, but still loud enough to be heard, and as he ran towards it that nagging feeling of Chaos hit him like a ton of bricks. While it wasn't as strong and frightening as the few times he encountered Bazzite, it was still stronger than him... It was best he'd be careful, lest he have to explain why he came home so banged up to Julian...
Once he was close, he kept his arms by his side, relaxed, trying not to be intimidating, as he knew his size could be.
"Excuse me... You're a Negaverser, right? You really shouldn't be draining people out here." Manu called out to the man as he stood there fixing his hair. "There's no safe place to leave them... And if they are out here too long, they might die from the cold. I'm sure you need the energy or something, but... I can't let you take from the people around here, I'm sorry."

Someone was sauntering his way, he felt, and Carnelian kept his back to this new person to languidly gaze back over his shoulder. His long, tapered fingers worked deftly towards the end of his long crimson braid. "I'll be with you in a moment." said he, turning away to finishing fixing his luxurious hair. This man was a Page, right? One of those not-senshi, the parallel and opposite of Negaverse agents. Whoever he was, he was foolish - Carnelian outranked him, which meant Carnelian was braver than usual. Once his hair was fixed and jacket adjusted, the corrupted senshi turned slowly to take stock of the person trying to stop him from fulfilling a quota. "Who's to say I was simply going to leave them here? Do you think me a monster?" Puppy eyes weren't a staple of his repertoire, but part of Carnelian's job was reconnaissance. The more information he could extract from the Page, the better. Carnelian also noted the man's strange lack of footwear. "Who's to say I wasn't about to carry them somewhere safe? You know what they say about assumptions, Page..." The corrupted senshi was drawing ever closer, slowly, taking in every detail of Manu that he could for his next report. His General did so love diligent paperwork.

While Manu didn't know how to respond to being put on hold by another human who was standing in front of him, but he did wait, politeness and the desire to avoid a fight easily outweighing any sort of offense he could have taken. Patiently, he stood there, position neutral until the other decided to turn around.
When Carnelian did face him, the page only smiled back kindly, finding the man pleasant to look at, but nothing more. Sexual temptation and anything of the sort never worked on Manu, as he just had no real desire to seek those things out. Bad for Carnelian, but it worked well enough for the taller man.
"I did not say you were a monster, not at all. But... Not many people come by this way, so were someone to stumble upon them, it could go badly for the energy donor you used." Using the word victim was more than likely to cause issue, so he was trying his best to be as peaceful as possible. No reason to fight if they could talk like the humans they were. "I apologize for my assumptions, if that is the case, perhaps I could escort you there. If only make ensure that no other Order Folk try to harm you. I would like to request, however, that perhaps until spring it would be best to gather your energy somewhere not so remote... I fear one day someone would be drained just a little too much and not awaken soon enough to make it home safely."

This Page seemed like such a gentle sort, and were Carnelian like his Negaverse counterpart, he'd be rent where he stood. Thankfully for Manu, that simply wasn't the case. Carnelian was not sadistic and unstable like Obsidian was, but all this gentleness and kindness gave him an idea. "I'll tell you what, Page. I'll quickly move these poor innocents to safety. There's a nice community center right around the corner and it's heated and well-lit. I'll do that, and come right back, and you can donate some energy for me! I have a quota, you know, and it would just be terrible if I didn't meet it. That's when the beatings start. So, you see, it's simply trying to keep myself safe. You understand that, don't you?" Somewhat of a lie - Carnelian himself hadn't been beaten for missing a quota, but others were. There was an unforgiving brutality to the Negaverse, depending on who you were stationed under and what their attitudes towards you were. Without waiting Manu's response, the corrupted senshi waltzed to the first downed civilian, scooped them up and teleported away in a blink of an eye. A few moments later, he returned in a short burst of blackened energy to repeat the process with the second civilian. What Carnelian did not explain to the Page was that teleportation in succession was quite draining, so the corrupt would have to dip into the energy he'd gathered to remain upright. It would be replaced with Manu's... donation. Returning for the third and final time, Carnelian made sure to reappear deviously close to the Page. With wicked fingers, the corrupt traced the space just above where Manu's starseed pulsed in his chest.

Before Manu could even open his mouth, Carnelian was gone. Then back again. Then gone. and back once more. It was startling, but from what he understood of the Negaverse thus far, he could only go a small distance, and the community center did seem to be pretty close. He'd double check as soon as he could to make sure the people were there when he could.
It didn't seem like Carnelian was about to give him the time to do so, as he came right up to him when he appeared again and touched his chest in a way that felt far more threatening he would like. Whatever was going through that Corrupted's mind seemed unpleasant for Manu, in any case. In a risky movement, he placed his hand over Carnelian's, giving it a gentle press closer to his chest, and then squeezed it lightly and pulled it away from where his starseed was. The larger man was calm right now, atleast on the inside, gaze as gentle and patient as it was before, but he was no fool to see just how dangerous of a game this was beginning to turn into.
"Surely your hand doesn't need to be there in order to get what you need." Carnelian's hand wasn't let go, but the grip wasn't tight either. The moment he did try something, however, Manu was going to do his best to be ready. "Since we are still unfamiliar with one another, I think I'd rather your hand be here, in mine, than on a more intimate space, if you wouldn't mind."

Whoever this Page was, they were an interesting catch. Either the larger man was incredibly naive, or had a death wish of his own. Anyone more inclined to violence than Carnelian would have a field day with this man, especially if he was so eager to lay upon the dagger, as it were. With a smirk, Carnelian conceded. If they were going to hold hands, might as well get something out of it. Manu would soon feel some of his strength leaving his body through his skin at the corrupt's very touch, coalescing into a beautiful, ethereal orb of energy that Carnelian quickly snatched out of the air and hid in the folds of his plush jacket. There, that was incredibly easy. Perhaps too easy. "Well, who am I to turn away a willing donor? Thank you, Page. Are you this kind to everyone in the Negaverse, or are you kind just because I'm so pretty? Either way, you might have saved a few people a good nap, for better or worse." Would it be worth it to yank the man's starseed? Would a starseed be worth more now, as opposed to energy over time? He'd have to check with the higher-ups on that one. If energy donations over time were more valuable, it would be a waste to just... end the man where he stood.

The feeling of energy leaving his body was a strange one indeed. It felt like he was slowly but surely feeling more tired, his arms and legs getting heavier by the moment. Luckily it didn't take too long to have the energy taken, and despite it all, he was still pretty steady on his feet. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all. Or maybe this was because he was powered, as those poor civilians truly didn't look like they would wake up any time soon.
There was still no way Manu trusted this man, not with his sly eyes and far too comfortable smile. It made him uneasy, uncomfortable, and just... Well, he wouldn't be disappointed when they finally parted ways.
"Just say that my generosity is for those who cannot protect themselves. And no need to keep calling me Page. It's Manu. A little more effort on the tongue, but more pleasant sounding. Are you finished now? If so, I believe it would be best to head home. It's more than a little chilly out here, and sickness is in the air no matter where you go." Once his hand was let go, he stepped back, feeling a breath he was holding let go from his chest. Good... Good, this would be over soon.
"Unless there is more you need to do."

"Yes, I believe we're finished here. Maybe I'll see you around sometime, Manu~? I'm sure your generosity will be appreciated by all of Destiny City." Was he being facetious? Probably. Either way, there was some truth to the matter - Manu donating his energy made the populace just a little bit safer, all things considered. And Carnelian, being the kind of Negaverse senshi that looked for corners to cut and effort to preserve, found this to be the perfect solution. When they hands parted, the corrupted senshi smiled a toothy grin to Manu, eyes regarding the Page like a piece of meat. Perfect meat. Would he have enough energy to teleport somewhere safe to power down? Probably, with just a little bit to spare. Enough to get him to Negaspace and into a bunk for a good nap after turning in his quota to the General-Sovereigns. It was en excellent end to the night. "Au revoir~" came a breathy goodbye, and the corrupted senshi had blinked out of sight.

"I'd much rather you see me than see others who are less hardy, so yes, I'm sure I'd be happy to see you again." His own words were soft, almost sweet in a way, but he knew for sure it was a lie. He didn't wish in the least to see this person again in his neighborhood, much less to take his energy or those around them... But if he was the one being used, then he could say that the civilians around were safe from at least one Negaverser.
Ah... The grin, that toothy, sly grin just sent the coldest of shivers down Manu's spine, even if he said nothing.
And then he was gone, and Manu let out a deep, tired breath.. It was over, it was finally over. While he wanted to go home, to curl up with Julian in his arms, he knew he couldn't go back just yet. There were still those civilians to check on..
But soon... Soon he could go home and soon, he could sleep... What a night, for sure.
