After a long day working at the shipyard, Yokka found herself rather reluctant to go home and cook for herself. She could just as easily relax at the local tavern and let someone else cook for her. After all, she was making her own money now. She could spend a little if she wanted to!
At the tavern, there was no shortage of people to talk with. Not that she wanted to talk, but she didn't mind listening. Unsurprisingly, the topic of the evening was the recent arrival of monsters. Her ears were at attention throughout the chatter. The leaders were gathering to discuss defenses? Yokka snorted. "They really think they'll get answers over there? So far's I hear, those folks don't know a damned thing, either."

Hanging out at the tavern was nothing short of fun! People were relaxed, telling stories, eating good food. Such a fun time!
Well... Usually.
Briel chewed on a bite of pie with his eyes rolling. Such a good pie to be soured by the less than fun conversation around him. The bug monsters? People vanishing into the air? People and leaders going over to the new land? Everything he knew about the situation was hearsay, and everything sounded like a child's bad dream. He looked over at the woman sharing his table and grinned. "Do they know much of anything over there? I hear they're kinda behind in the times over there. If they really think they can learn to hit two rocks together better over there.." That earned a laugh from some of the surrounding patrons, making him grin brightly.

Yokka cast a heavy stare at the boy near her. "Those Tendaji people are smarter than you give them credit for," she huffed, pointing her fork at the boy. "You go over there and see for yourself before badmouthin' anyone... if your mama will let you go." That earned a laugh in return, and Yokka shook her head. "Besides, after what I saw at the academy.. can't say I really blame them for reaching out over there. Probably pointless, but can't blame them. Someone over there might know something we don't."

For a moment, Briel's expression flinched sadly. Then, it flushed with irritation. "Hey! I'm seventeen!" he huffed back. He could do what he wanted! ..sort of.
At the mention of the academy, Briel's eyes widened with interest and he forgot about his irritation. "You were there when the bug thing attacked? Did it look like it was from the new land? Did it really make the whole place go dark so you couldn't see anything? Did it really make three people vanish in thin air?"

Yokka smirked lightly. Fine. She wasn't that much older than he was, but no one needed to know that.
The onslaught of questions had others chuckling, but Yokka just glared again. "What? By the ocean, what are people saying happened there?" Stabbing her fork at her plate, she contemplated the morsel before setting it back down. So much for her appetite... "I was kinda far away, and it was wearing a hood or something, so can't really tell you what it looked like. Nothing went dark, so far's I remember, and good grief, don't make it sound even scarier. Only one person was taken. It.. wasn't the air. Something in the air.. like a pit.. or.." Sighing, Yokka waved her hand. "Anyway, all it did was appear, grab one person, and disappear." She looked around, seeing a handful of others nod in confirmation. They had been there as well.
"I guess any bit of information we can get will be helpful."

Briel's excitement deflated slightly. Well, listening to the woman talk, it had hardly been anything to see! How boring. "Still, something came out of nowhere, grabbed someone, and vanished with that person back into nowhere." His brow knit slightly, curls dancing as he shook his head. "Can we really fight against that? If nobody over there knows anything, they should be staying here to work with us."

Yokka tried to force a bite of food, but the talk had made the meal lose its taste. It was like eating wood... "Nothing wrong with hoping that something will help us over there," she murmured. At first, she would have agreed with the kid, but the more she talked, the more she found herself hoping for the best. "If nothing else.. they might be able to put clues together to prevent anyone else from being taken... I can't believe they would go all the way over there and come back with nothing."

Briel was quiet for a moment. Nothing wrong with hoping... That was a good view to have. "I doubt there's anything worthwhile over there.. but hoping is good," he finally admitted. "Wait, are people still being taken?" A snarky grin curved his lips. "See, I know plenty of people who wouldn't mind going missing. They'd be downright happy to vanish. Can't we just give the bug monsters a list, or have them do a survey?"

Yokka's eyes widened sharply. "Kid, you gotta pull your head outta that dark place you stuffed it. Peopled are actually missing. Nobody knows if they're alive or dead, suffering or at peace! This ain't a joke." She kicked her heavy boot under the table, satisfied when she felt contact. Hopefully, the kid's shin was now bruised.
"Besides, us going over there on the air ships was meant to connect us anyway. Why avoid them now that there's danger to everyone. People over there have been taken as well, you know."

Briel's eyes widened again. Now he was getting a few glares, and not just from the woman. "I was only partially joking," he grumped, crossing her arms. Tough crowd... He yelped what a boot did indeed smack his shin, making him lean over to rub the sore spot. Really tough crowd.
Still, the move did sober him up a little when in combination with those last words. "I.. didn't know that," he murmured. It made sense that people over there had gone missing as well, but he hadn't really given it much thought. After all, Tendaji was still new. His focus was the home front. "I just want them to hurry back. If no one over there knows anything, surely the academy can figure something out."

Pleased to see a bit of the play taken out of the kid, Yokka stabbed at another piece of food. Damned kids who paid attention to nothing... "The academy's working as hard as it can. They're still working on everyday tasks as well, you know. The world can't stop for some monster attack. The leaders know that." Pushing her plate away, Yokka stood and stretched her arms. "They'll figure it out. They have to." She turned to pay for her plate and packed the leftovers into a knapsack. At the least, she could reheat it when her appetite returned.

Briel pursed his lips. The woman was right. The only sign of trouble he had really noticed was in the conversations and some caution. Otherwise, Belrea was running like normal.
Seing the Geian woman stand, Briel found himself jumping up to follow her. "Hey, lady!" Thinking about his sore shin, he cleared his throat awkwardly, attempting a charming smile. She wasn't that much older than he was, right? "Hey, so, if you need someone to talk to more about all this, like you get nervous or something, you can come find me, alright? Name's Briel."

Yokka almost kept on walking. Hey lady? Honestly! After showing such a slacker attitude... Her eyes narrowed the slightest bit through her flat gaze. Was he... no. That'd just be stupid. "How about you find me if you feel nervous?" she suggested, shaking her head. Sighing heavily, she resigned herself to the conversation she had engaged in. "Name's Yokka... Now go home, ki- Briel. When the big guys do figure out what we need to do, you better be ready to do it."
The night had almost turned into a rather unfortunate choice. Though her food had to wait for later, she couldn't help being a little pleased. She had been quite negative about the situation before, but she was finding she trusted in what the leaders would find.

Ah, playing hard to get? Briel grinned and nodded. "If that's the way you want it," he mused. He wouldn't mind seeking her out later! ..Even if she was just being sarcastic as he suspected. He still doubted that anyone on the other side of the ocean would have a clue, but he could place his faith in the academy.
