Huni: After all the things that had been happening, from alternate lives, to Atlantis, to whatever the hell else the Legacies were doing, the months just flew by and it would soon be the day for Filipinos to make their annual pilgrimage to the cemeteries. Unfortunately for those who were Hunters, they weren't allowed.

Joy doubted anyone else on the island would understand why she was upset by this, although there was one person who might. "Gaaaaaaabby~"

-----

Pao: Gabby had missed a lot of what was going on, having holed herself into complete training-and-duty-only mode for the sake of getting her foundation in all things Deus. Minus, of course, the surprises--like, say, Atlantis. Or a girl dying and getting Podded instead of buried, which was weird to think about because she'd just come out of a pod. Did she die, too? Was that really a thing? None of these concerns, however, really showed in the girl's expression as she kneaded the dough with relative expertise.

"Ateee~," she giggled at Joy's call, looking over at her friend in amusement. "What is it?"

-----

Huni: "'Day, ((it's almost)) November 1, you plan on setting aside leave for that?" Joy asked, ensuring the ingredients she was going to be working with were safe for consumption before beginning to chop and slice. "Or are you going to, like, stick around until later?"

-----

Pao: Gabby paused her work, visibly frowning when the date was mentioned. "I know!" she shouted at the ceiling suddenly, but then went back to kneading as if she hadn't just had some kind of an outburst. For her, it was relatively tame. And then she glanced over at Joy, frown sorrowful as it was apologetic. "I can't yet, though. I've gotta wait three months pa, and that won't be until December 3."

Her kneading became a bit rougher as she thought about that rule, lip curling. "Pero that rule is medyo stupid, mura ra gyu'y naa tay lain adtu-an after barely waking up. I don't even know, but what can I do? It feels like I'm the newest one on the island. I even missed that whole--" she waved and sent flour flying to her left, away from Joy. "--Atlantis, save-us-from-the-rain mission. Can you believe that?"

-----

Huni: Joy was amused, "'Day, dehins ako marunong ng Bisaya, but you don't gotta worry about the date. Part of being Hunters is that we gotta cut ties from our old lives, so we can't actually go during November 1. We might risk getting recognized, diba? Was gonna suggest we go later, like for almost pasko. We can do our Christmas shopping narin," she grinned.

"And chill lang about missing Missions. There've been, like, stuff I've missed out on too, because no one woke me up or texted me. I woulda texted you but it is impossible to be a touch-textist on smart phones. And I was kinda busy trying to fight off Sebastian."

-----

Pao: "Ay' sorry 'te," she replied then, apologetic but still sticking her tongue out a little bit. "It kinda comes out more naturally when I'm irritated." She quieted as Joy explained, and the girl sort of deflated where she stood. She'd never missed the occasion before, but now knowing that they couldn't take part even if she could take her leave was...it was pretty depressing.

But she was glad to have someone to understand that woe. "Sa pasko nalang," she eventually said, "Two birds with one stone, totally my style."

And that was that. Mention of missing missions did get another sigh out of her, but she quirked her brow at the "Sebastian" part. "Who's that?"

Huni: "Don't worry, gets ko what you mean," Joy reassured Gabby about the whole mixed languages thing, "Hell, I do that with Taglish that I end up sound like Kris Aquino," she laughed. Idly opening her phone to set a calendar reminder of their future leave together. "Just letting you know that depending on what happens these next few months, we might end up going shopping with one or two people. I kinda promised them a food-trip of sorts."

Better bring that up just in case.

At Gabby not knowing who Sebastian was, Joy's jaw dropped, "You've never seen the Little Mermaid?"

-----

Pao: The girl giggled at the Kris Aquino bit; she could easily imagine what that might sound like because the woman was prominent enough in Filipino entertainment. "That's totally my tita, sorry 'te," she giggled, still working the dough until it looked and felt like it was supposed to. She grabbed the nearby pizza cutter and used it to start cutting the dough into strips.

"That's okay. The more the merrier," she replied, "and I know that Sebastian. Akala ko you were talking about another hunter."

-----

Huni: "Nothing wrong with sounding like Kris. Or being as rich as she is. Is she still doing movies?" Joy put her phone away to continue with her dish, checking Gabby's work to see if Joy was falling behind or something.

"Dehins, we fought this water golem that was, like, a giant hipon or dikya I dunno, it was water and kept shifting its appearance. But we had to bash it to death before we could go to Atlantis and wait do you mean there's a hunter named Sebastian?" she asked, suddenly going off tangent.

-----

Pao: "She's kinda both," replied the girl as she started twisting the dough strips into pretzels. She moved quick and almost expertly, eyes focused but easily keeping up with the conversation.

"Ooooh! Okay, gets ko na. Wow," she paused in her work and looked over at Joy, thoroughly impressed. "You guys beat it? And ewan 'te, I haven't met too many other hunters."

-----

Huni: "'Te ang dami namin as IN like almost the WHOLE island was there. It was that big and I wish it wasn't water because if it was a real eatable lobster-crap-shrimp thing, ay Diyos ko sea food diet for daaaaays," Joy exclaimed. "Too bad the situation ended up real shitty before we got Atlantis to stop."

-----

Pao: She set the pretzels on a tray and quickly popped them in the oven, "oo"-ing and "aah"-ing as Joy explained what happened. It bummed her out a bit more that she missed out on it now, but she sighed.

"How shitty?" she asked, choosing to focus on something that more matched her mood so it wasn't so obvious. "Like...I dunno...did someone die or something?"

Huni: It was only because Joy had heard of Kim's revival that she could react in such a cavalier way, "Yeppers. Girl named Kim, also in Sun. Creation did something to her, killed her in the process. But then she does a Jesus! If he took a week or so to come back instead of three days. Or maybe she wasn't really dead? Ewan, I know she was kept in a pod though. Her boyfriend practically lived in the pod room."

She sighed, "Am I weird to think that it was sad and stupid and also romantic of him?"

-----

Pao: Gabby had just finished washing her hands when Joy started to explain. Had she been drinking water she would have right done a spit take because what she just heard was ridiculous.

"As in?! What the hell..." she pondered for a moment what kind of organization dealt with dead people coming back to life and moving shadows on a wall, at which point Sen chimed in and she took a bit of comfort in knowing he was there to help her if anything happened.

"Not weird, but I probably wouldn't have. What's the normal process when people die around here anyway? I mean...did the boss people in charge have a reason for not going in that direction?"

-----

Huni: Joy had to catch up for sure with her food, but she wasn't going to rush and half-a** it. Thank goodness parallel processing is a thing, although she would have just called it multi-tasking. "Seren said that the boyfriend was in denial and I don't know them well enough to have asked. I mean, I could be kapal muks about it and just ask if she was really dead-dead or like, coma lang or something."

At island protocol, Joy's expression turned grim, "From what I know, they either cremate or bury the body off island. Can't risk the bangkay coming back a zombie, diba?"

-----

Pao: Gabby listened carefuly, eyes slowly but surely narrowing as she processed everything. It was a little weird but "to each their own" was a motto she lived by so she could hardly judge anyone for how they handled the situation. "Knowing me I probably would have just asked," he wound up saying with a chuckle. "Not sure you noticed, but I kinda like to talk, 'te'."

Her amusement faded some when talk of cremation and the potential for zombies came up. It turned mostly to confusion at that point, and she narrowed her eyes again. "Zombies? As in...back from the dead?" A pause, then she jabbed her thumb over her shoulder as a genereal gesture to refer to the topic about the dead girl coming back to life. "So she's not a zombie?"

-----
Huni: "Ohs? 'Di nga?" Joy gasped in feigned surprised, eyes crinkling from the smile. "I never noticed." Her dish was popped into the oven, timer all set and all that she would need to do was wait. She didn't even look up from the oven when Gabby asked about zombies.

"Yeah, zombies. Island's got, like, a high enough level of FEAR that dead stuff gets affected. I hope Kim's not a zombie, the pod should have worked some magic about it?" she shrugged, not even pretending to have any clue how that s**t worked. That was all Life Division business.

-----

Pao: The girl smiled at the joke, nodding along to it because piling on felt like it would just ruin it. She glanced at where she'd popped her tray of pretzels to check on the timer before paying attention again.

Gabby took in the information like a sponge. A very confused sponge, but a sponge nonetheless. It wasn't a whole lot of information really, but the novelty of it all made it feel weighty. "So if I die here, specifically, then they have to cremate me to make sure I don't come back to terrorize the people I hate?"

-----

Huni: "And the people you like," Joy added, "Far as I can tell, while some zombies can become sentient they don't exactly remember anything from when they were alive." She wasn't sure if she could tell Gabby about Sammy just yet. What if the other hunter took it the wrong way and didn't see death as something they, as hunters, should be avoiding if possible? Ha! Joy was one to talk given her apparent lack of fear when it came to shuffling off her mortal coil.

"Hay, ewan ko lang," she shrugged, "You know if you wanna learn more, you can ask the Life peeps?" she suggested. "And I can come along. Just in case."

-----

Pao: Again, sponging up information. As best she could, of course; not everything would stick, but this zombie stuff just might. It was as horrifying as it was fascinating to her.

"Gotcha," she said with a final little nod. "So basically so dead versions of us don't wreak havoc." It took a second to totally process, but when it did she sighed a very, very heavy sigh. "Dying's supposed to be the end of things, too. The idea we could go full on zombie at all is kinda a downer, 'te."

The idea to ask someone from another division was met with a shrug. "Maybe? If I see it for myself and come up with more question. What I know is tama na muna I think."

Huni: Joy could only laugh and nod, "Okidoks." She understood what being overwhelmed felt like and adding some massive culture shock to the mix, the intermediate Moon would have wished she had someone to cling to during her early days.

"Is your family's cemetery in Manila or you said you were Cebuana?" she asked, getting back to their original topic. Somewhat amused at the tangents their conversation had gotten to at this point.

-----

Pao: "Manila!" came an immediate reply, her smile a bit subdued as she was reminded she couldn't make the trip anymore. "We saved all year, every year, so we could go. Usually, though, just me and my dad went because we couldn't afford tickets for all of us."

She chose not to mention her sister's condition being another reason, not because she didn't trust Joy but because the money reason was enough truth to share for now.

-----

Huni: "Aw that must be tough, didn't your angkan ever consider moving to a different cemetery? Somewhere closer?" It was the logical assumption Joy could come up with given her middle-class upbringing.
[6:42 AM] Pao: She shook her head. "We were the solo family in the States, actually," she explained, eyes going a bit distant as she thought back to her family that she left behind. "So that wouldn't work. I remember when I was younger, though, we all got to go a few times. It doesn't make up for not all going when we were older, but it was something at least."

The girl shrugged, then checked her timer. "I'm guessing your family's is in Manila, 'te?"

-----

Huni: "Oh! You migrated, I always assumed, wow mali me, sorry," her expression was a mixture of apologetic and embarrassed, "Yeah, most of my 'tay's family stayed in Pinas. But I know some of my 'nay's side migrated to the US but they never came back for Christmas reunions." Joy shrugged, not really seeing the issue compared to how practically offended her mother sounded whenever the overseas relatives were discussed.

"It definitely makes sense that it's hard for your family to come home just for undas. But luckily we have portals!"

-----

Pao: Gabby waved off the apology; it wasn't a big deal, the misunderstanding, nor was it a big deal in retrospect to be separated from her family in that way. This, being at Deus and not allowed to see them at all was much, much worse in her mind. But she hid it all behind a maybe forcibly bright smile at the mention of having portals now, which was way cheaper and more convenient than airplanes, that was for sure.

"I'd take portals over planes any day, you can bet on that. Shame Deus won't share the tech with the rest of the world."

-----

Huni: "Deus wouldn't be much of a secret organization if they did," Joy chuckled, "And it'd be nice if they weren't so damn strict about the family thing." She hadn't been awake or aware of Nest and the Horseman's vendetta against Hunters enough to know the dangers their presence posed to their loved ones. But she reached out to give Gabby a hug, "Hope you're okay with being part of my Deus family now. And always feel free to add to it. ((Like mebbe giving me a brother-in-law,))" she winked.

-----

Pao: The girl happily hugged the Moon back, just relieved to have found some semblance of family so early on in her stint. Things might have been much, much lonelier otherwise. But at least with Joy here, and potentially those within Joy's proximity if they were so inclined to include her, she wasn't alone.

"Okay na okay 'te," she started, then giggled at the brother-in-law bit. "Would never promise that 'cause I don't have any kind of luck with relationships, but who knows."
