Eoana is a vast land and it is inhabited by a great variety of creatures, including humans and almost countless other animals. This thread is meant to give an overview of beings that are known to exist in this land and their general characteristics.

Humans are the most widespread beings in Eoana. They're found on almost every documented continent and not are their appearances varied but they also developed many different cultures. They are also more technologically advanced than any other living being in Eoana and are widely considered to be the only civilized species in the land.

All humans are born with some inherent magic, which manifests as their raiments, giving them a unique skill. Not everyone is born with the same amount of magic or talent for their raiment, making some weaker or stronger than others. Some humans are even born with an excess amount of magic which can give them powers beyond that of their raiment, like becoming oracles or having the ability to manipulate their own magic and as well as the surrounding magic in the form of spells and charms, but these are exceedingly rare. The most common forms of non-raiment magic are charms and talismans that are sold by merchants for good fortune, wealth, and youth among other things, and even then, these are nothing more than trinkets.

Humans are not united; in fact, they've formed many different kingdoms each ruled by its own governing body, the two most powerful being Trendel and Valor, and until recently, they've been at constant war with each other and it had been this way for as long as people could remember. There are ruins scattered throughout Eoana that hints at the presence of old civilizations, but barely anything is known about them and most artifacts from these times (especially those imbued with ancient magic) have been gathered and kept under lock and key and in treasuries of various rulers.

Animals of all sorts of species and from all kinds of environments can be found in Eoana. They are no more intelligent and or larger than your average animal and while they are mostly found in the wild, humans rely on domesticated animals for a great deal, like as cattle for sustenance, for transport, security, etcetera. They are even kept as pets!

Hunting animals in the wild is considered fair game, but one must be able to distinguish feral animals from any Shifters (people who's raiments allow them to transform into an animal) otherwise they could kill another human being.

Despite the variety of animals living in Eoana, magical creatures like dragons, trolls, elves, giants, etc, are considered to be myths, or legends, and do not exist. They are usually found in books and stories that are often passed down from generation to generation.

While there are creatures that appear in stories everywhere, such as dragons, every region has its own legends that are often unique to that particular region or environment and might even be considered a cultural icon by some. But even so, it is known that they're not real.

Unlike other magical creatures that are often spoken about in stories, fairies do exist. Fairies, or the fae, are beings of pure magic, unlike humans, and unless they choose to reveal themselves, they are usually invisible to all humans except for certain Diviners whose raiments allow them to see them, which is why they're considered to be myths by most people (although Shifters can somewhat sense their presence). They can live for as long as their magic lasts, meaning that while they can live much longer than humans (frequently living up to 100-200 years old), they are not immortal. They are usually a little smaller than the average human palm and have wings, but beyond these similarities, their physical appearances can be even more varied than humans, but often relate to their nature.

Fairies have many different natures that they can be separated into like human Knits that allows them to influence and control one element in nature like water or air, similar to Elementors (humans whose raiments allow them to control the elements), allowing them to make distinctions between water fairies, plant fairies, ice fairies, etc. There have also been cases where fairies have some abilities similar to human Diviners, although these are rare. A fairy's nature is inherited from one of their parents at random and which parent's nature they inherit cannot be predicted. After years of co-existing with each other, there is rarely any prejudice against fairies of different natures, but stereotypes do exist and are mostly used in jest.

Fairy magic works in a different way than human magic. Unlike humans, fairies have the ability to manipulate their own magical energy to control the elements in ways that are similar to Elementors (humans whose raiments allow them to control the elements). Being completely made of magic, they do not get tired from controlling their element as long as they maintain contact with it and can even temporarily turn into their element at will. However, because their magic also acts as their life force, using too much magic frequently and consistently decreases their lifespan by 50-100 years, like using spells, controlling their element without contact, controlling too much of it without help, or transforming into their element and merging with a source of it (like a water fairy merging with a pool) as it takes a lot of energy to keep themselves together in this state to be able to transform back.

While being magic, fairies do have physical forms and can be injured just like any other beings, and their small size makes them especially delicate. Their magic allows them to regenerate and recover from any injuries slowly over time, but it costs a lot of energy and can shorten their lifespan. Because they can control their magic, fairies have the ability to slow down their natural healing even more (to conserve more energy), speed it up (but not by much, and it would cost more energy), or stop it altogether. It is this energy costs that is the reason why fairies much prefer to dodge any potential harm rather than take a hit and heal. Not only do they have the ability to heal themselves but they can also heal their fellow fairies by donating their own energy. Because doing this means that they're sacrificing their own lifespan for others, fairies rarely ever do this and those few who choose to become healers are usually held in high regard.

No one knows where fairies originated from, not even fairies themselves. Ages ago, they used to have a prosperous kingdom, but no one knows what happened to it and almost all knowledge of this kingdom has been lost. But this kingdom had a set of rules, a code, that all fairies to this day still follow, even though they don't remember where it originated from, and breaking this code is considered to be taboo. This code dictates that, among other things, fairies should avoid doing anything that might harm one another, should not cause unnecessary discord, and should avoid interfering in the affairs of humans or other creatures and in fact, shouldn't reveal themselves to humans unless necessary.

Fairies are usually very independent and live on their own in the wild or in abandoned structures, according to what they find more comfortable or compatible with their natures, but they are by no means isolated from each other. In fact, most fairies are quite sociable and enjoy spending time in each others' companies in abodesβ€”safe havens frequented by fairies of all naturesβ€”scattered throughout Eoana, including one in the forest near the Grand Academy. When describing where they're from, fairies usually state the abode they frequent, and these abodes are usually governed by a small council of older, upstanding fairies chosen by their peers, although most of what they do is keep the peace in the abodes and ensuring that fairies follow the code. However, a number of fairies do choose to remain isolated and stay away from their peers and these fairies don't always follow the code, but they're looked down upon by the rest of the fae community.
