There was, Henry had learned, more to this training thing then just practicing with his weapon. There was also weight training, which he wasn't very good at yet, and cardio, which wasn't too bad, now that he was used to it. Over the last couple of months the scrawny Mist had filled out just a bit, and had even grown an inch and a half, much to his delight and surprise. It placed him, finally, taller than all his female friends, and had helped a bit with his own self confidence.

Today was a cardio day. He'd had breakfast, and checked his duty roster, and with an hour and a half before be had to worry about heading back to the dorms, he was actually pretty pumped to see how far he could actually push himself.

So, after stretching, the boy set off at a steady pace along the track, earbuds pumping upbeat music to keep his feet moving.

A bobbing ginger ponytail passed him by, nearly smacking Henry in the face. Not bothering to slow or turn around, America lifted one hand to flip him off before sprinting forward. She didn't do cardio, America Jones ran. Every day, for the pure joy of it.

Usually she liked to stick to the wilder paths the island had to offer, even if she'd been asked to stay away from the most dangerous for now. It was a solitary, almost reverent, time for herself; America running was a rare sight on the actual training tracks.

But the success of her glitter messaging had the girl feeling extra hyped and social, willing to forgo her temple of motion for the chance to gossip and brag on the fields.

To bad the only one she saw there was Henry.

Did smack Henry in the face. The Mist got a very unexpected face full of ginger waves, damn near inhaling it in his surprise, and was left sputtering and staring after a rapidly retreating America, her middle finger standing tall and conspicuously aimed at him.

I don't know why Cami thinks she's second to that pain in the a**, he grumbled to his weapon, scowling after that bobbing ponytail.

~Height?~

No.

"Very mature!" He shouted after her, pushing himself backto his former, steady pace. "Brat," was was considerably softer.

He was left in peace for a little while until the little s**t lapped him. Normally more of an endurance runner, America pushed herself faster than usual for the satisfaction of leaving him eating her dust a second time. Both arms spread wide, she majestically flipped him off with both hands.

He could hear her coming up behind him and sighed, not at all surprised when she raced past with both hands up this time.

"Could you be any more petty? God." His voice was a little breathy from the running, but the disgust and indignation were still quite clear.

She spun around, now running backward. "Hi, I'm Henry! I like to tell people how they should act! Why? Who knows!" America's voice was bright and conversational and utterly whiny as she ran, turning and slowing a bit to keep pace with him.

"Maybe it's 'cause I think I'm better than them? Maybe it's cause girls should always be rainbows and ********' puppies or people won't listen to them! Maybe cause I just like lecturing strangers! But at least I'm not a petty b***h like that America Jones, right?"

He stopped dead in his tracks, features contorted into a deep scowl. He didn't care that she didn't like him, if this was the kind of person she was than he figured he was probably better off. What bothered him was the implication that he was in any sexist. Gender had had nothing to do with their initial fight, and he didn't have a clue why she was bring it up now, if only because he'd called her a b***h.

Which he might have felt bad about at the time, but definitely didn't regret now.

"At least I don't hold onto petty grudges like a dog with a bone," he shot back, turning to walk across the field, back towards the dorms. "You're the one acting like a child, and you're the one harassing me. I've left you alone."

"Left me alone after being an a*****e to me. Gee, why would anyone hold a grudge?" America shot back, but didn't bother following after Henry. Not worth her time. Get Over Me Pissing You Off was such a Mr Michaels thing, no wonder Cami was willing to hang around this guy too.

Giving her head a sad little No Accounting For Bad Taste shake, the girl picked up a stronger pace, leaving the small confrontation behind her.

America didn't see Henry again until a few days later, this time on the sparring grounds. Noticing him she pointedly turned away. Apparently last time was harassment, so she'd decided to go back to pretending the boy didn't exist.

Two factors went into Henry speaking up the next time he saw the fiery red head. One, there was literally no one she in the training field, and Henry hated practicing at the training dummies. It always made him feel silly, abd he struggled enough with self conference without adding to the problem.

Two, he recognized that America was a very large part of Cami's life, and it would probably be better dirt the lot of them if he and America weren't constantly at odds. Abs if they were ever going to work things out, if it was even possible, it wasn't going to happen by just pretending the other didn't exist, or worse.

So, looking about as happy about it as he felt, he called out to her after watching her thoughtfully for a moment. "Hey, his about a spar?" Tone implied he was waiting for a refusal.
