Well, it hadn't been snowing, at the very least, but the Canadian fall did prove chilly when Soleil and Zane had stepped out of the portal. Thankfully, the less congested nature of the town they arrived in made it possible to place the portal closer to their destination. La Banquise, a place Soleil had always wanted to go to, but had never actually gotten the chance, despite it being in the province she'd grown up in. Just a different part. Arm looped around Zane's she lead him into the pub. Rustic looking, but everything looked warm and inviting. Hand carved tables, wooden benches, and antlers and other hunting treasures lining the walls. "This places was featured on a show I used to watch with my sister. It just made me want to try it more." It smelled delicious inside. She let him go so she could shed her coat and remove the hat she'd grabbed before they'd left, and after tucking the hat into her sleeve she draped the coat over a bench at an open table as she took a seat.

His jacket proved to be warm enough because he wasn't shivering even though he could feel the chill just beneath the layers. His cheeks were red, tinged by the biting chill.
Taking a minute to glance around them, he let Sol tug him along. Once inside he felt the comforting embrace of warmth and realized how cold he had truly been. "Looks neat," he replied, distractedly.
The smell of food wafting towards him made his stomach rumble.
Unlike his companion he didn't peel off his layer and just slid into the seat across from her. "So you said something about...poutine?"

Sitting forward, Soleil lay her arms on the table and leaned into them. It looked exactly how she remembered seeing it on TV, and she couldn't help the overly excited grin she was wearing as she looked around them. Then back to Zane at his question, brows arched in question before smoothing back out a second later. "Oui, it's delicious, and they have a few different kinds." She wanted to get it classic, of course, but she was tempted to order one of each, just so they could try them all. "It's seasoned fries, with cheese curds and gravy," she finally clarified. "So if you like loaded mashed potatoes, or baked potatoes, you'll like this.". Warm, savory, the perfect pub food, at least in her eyes. A server wandered over, tall, bearded, and sporting a man-bun. The Mist smiled up at him a he introduced himself and listed of the drinks on specials, all in English, though his accent was heavy. Soleil held up her idea for him before ordering. "Si vous avez un gose ou un lambic sur le robinet, je le prends, sinon ce qui est le plus proche. Merci" she liked her beers sour, with a touch of fruit taste. Both the girl and the server turned their attention to Zane, waiting patiently. "Have a drink with me?" Soleil asked sweetly. Or two. Or three...

Watching her take in the place with delight was endearing, to say the least. When she looked over at him, he wore a lopsided grin.
"Potatoes and cheese, what's not to love?" Gravy wasn't his favorite but he wasn't picky and was probably akin to a human garbage disposal when he ate. "How about--" Zane trailed off when the server made his way over and greeted them. Green eyes flicked from not-girlfriend to the man and his grin slipped as a conversation passed in french.
He probably needed to make an active effort to learn French. Ugh.
"Sure, just order whatever. You know I don't know French."

Soleil's enthusiastic smile dimmed just a bit as she noticed Zane's grin slip, but only until he agreed to have a drink with her. She reached over to take one of his hands, thumb smoothing over the backs of his knuckles in a silent apology for all the french, and at the same time she held two fingers up to the server to indicate she'd like to double her drink order. Hopefully the Sun hunter liked his beers sour. Or fruity. The man with the bun nodded and made his way back to the bar to fetch their order, and when he returned her set a pair of pale colored beers in tall glasses down in front of them. By the taste, gose rather than lambic, which was just fine with Soleil. "Merci." His little notepad made a reappearance, and Soleil ordered a half of each of the featured poutine dishes offered. One was traditional, just the curds and the gravy. One had that, plus shredded brisket, and the last had froie gras , which Soleil wasn't entirely sure of, other than it was duck. The server went away again, and left them to their beers while he put in their food order.

Zane wasn't really bothered by all of the french, but it was mildly annoying knowing that they could have been saying anything and he wouldn't understand a lick of it. Still, Soleil's hand was a comforting thing as she reached for him and he shrugged in response.
It was no big deal. For now anyway.
His unoccupied hand reached for the glass and he brought it to his lip. While his expression remained rather stoic it was clear once he set the glass down that it wasn't his favorite.
He was going to drink it though. All of it.
"So why'd you bring us here?"

Chin coming down to rest on her free hand, she watched as Zane took a drink, and mostly managed to hide how much this particular type of beer was so not his flavor. It left her smiling at him, entirely too amused, but he seemed dead set on finishing it, or at least not complaining, so she didn't say anything about it. "I saw this place on tv, and I've always wanted to try it." The explanation came with a small shrug. "Their food looked really good." No deeper meaning than that, but what better reason to visit a pub? Gently taking her hand back, she brought her class up for a drink, eyes flicking around the decor again briefly before once again settling on him. "So, Mr. maybe-we-date," she started with a grin, fully aware that had not been how he'd said it, and not caring. "You're older than me, you like naps, you're not huge on sex, and you wear glasses." Her nose wrinkled just slightly in amusement. "That's about all I know about you. Tell me something else."

He'd grown up in a household that if you paid for it, you finished it, and boy was he determined to see the bottle through. It was his fault, really, for not having a preference, but he only drank on occasion. Maybe he'd grow to like the taste as he forced it down.
"Makes sense," he mused. Most things didn't have a deeper meaning behind it and if Sol wanted to be here, then that was all the reason necessary.
"That's really all there is to me. I'm quite boring." He said, shrugging. It wasn't all that there was to him, but he liked pretending to be mysterious. "More of a city boy than a country kid. Rainy, hazy days are my favorite." Perfect for cuddling and napping.
"Lived on my own before all of this hunter business, got a few siblings but haven't seen 'em since I was sixteen." He wrinkled his nose, trying to think if there was anything else he wanted to share. "What about you?"

The tip of a finger traced along the rim of her glass as she listened to him talk, abd she'd pick it up, take a drink of the sour beer, before wrinkling her nose at him. "I'm not sure I believe that, but if you wanna play the mysteries napbadduct, I'll play." For now, at least. Soleil was fairly confident she'd dig more out of him the more time they direct together. "Me? I grew up not too terribly far from here. Same province, different city. My twin and I had just moved out on our own before Deus found us. We're both big into gaming, though I'm all about the first person shooters, and she's not into WoW, and Diablo. You know, that MMO kinda s**t," she said furnish, waving her hand. Sol had had accounts too, by after never been that into it. She'd played with Luna, because Luna liked it. She took another drink before continuing. Progressively further along in her own drink than Zane was with his. "I did game streaming. Had a really sweet set up, patron comme de la merde. I used to make Bank, too. Cause I was ******** good, and I'm a girl. Bonus tits, ya know?" Thin shoulders came up in a shrug.

Fingers played with the condensation that was making it's home on the glass as she talked. Zane wasn't concerned that Soleil didn't believe him, she was a big girl who could make her own decisions about how 'boring' he may not have been.
They had all the time in the world, at least until the next mission tried to kill them, to get to know each other.
She talked about various games and used terms he didn't really understand but nodded at anyway. "Gaming was never really my thing." Something about it didn't catch his attention very well when it came to him playing. He'd rather watch.
"Hey, people gotta make money some way right?" His glass was lifted and brought to his mouth, the sip a long one that left foam tingling against his upper lip. "S'not like you're shy or whatever. If you got it and wanna flaunt it, flaunt it."

She grinned and took a drink before tossing a wink at him over her drink. "I'm not sure, you're absolutely right on that, but I didn't have to flaunt anything. Girl gamers that play Call of Duty, who are good at it, and who stream aren't really a dime a dozen, so I had a pretty loyal following." Which made her wonder, if only for a moment, what they'd done after she'd disappeared on them. Made her want to read the comments on her Youtube page, just for curiosities sake. "I think I wanna use some of my bonus to get the new Playstation, but I dunno." Receiving the bonus had been unexpected, and she just wasn't sure if it was something she should save, or if she should just go for it. She'd have to ask around a bit more, she supposed. Their server was on his way back with a tray loaded with three large plates piled high with fries and toppings, and pair of smaller plates that were set down to one side. He told them he hoped they enjoyed their meals, in heavily accented English, asked if there was anything else they needed, and then excused himself. "Oh s**t, this loooks amazing." Beer back on the table, she leaned forward to grab the smaller plates, handing one to Zane while taking one for herself.
