Giulia really only went on a proper patrol on the nights they stayed at the City House, or when she was spending the night with Lucia and they went together. She couldn't even call it a proper patrol, though, when every time she came up against a mean thing, all she could do was try and kick it and then run away. She'd never really met one of the bad people that she had been warned about, though she thought she had seen them on the edge of her eye sight. Vision! That was the word, like the red man in the Avengers who could fly and shoot light from his forehead like a starhead kitty could. Yeah. She'd been going somewhere with this train of thinking, but now she had forgotten. Whoops!

She was hanging out in one of the playgrounds, choosing to stay out late playing instead of actually doing a patrol like she was probably supposed to. If she waited long enough, something would happen and that was when she would know that she needed to go home now. It was the world's way of telling her to go to sleep. Or something. Or maybe bad things just happened a lot. Spiderman had said when bad things started happening because you got stronger that meant it happened because of you, or something like that. He seemed to be very smart, not dumb like the adults. The adults looked at big things and forgot to be people.

Giulia hoped she wouldn't forget to be a people when she got old. That would be awful. She leaned back, kicking her little legs up into the air, staring up at the sky. She'd been told that somewhere was a place all for her, just like Ara had. But what would hers look like? Ara was illumination, and her home was full of light and colors. Charybdis was... seals. Was her planet a giant whirlpool? A huge seal, like Gepetto's whale? Hmmmm.

There were a fair amount of lieutenants, Larimar's age or otherwise, who might have balked at the idea of assaulting a child - but unfortunately for Charybdis, Larimar was not one of those, at least in uniform. Had they met as Jordan and Charybdis instead it would have been a different story, because Jordan would have been sweet and concerned and not paid any heed to the biting behind their eyes - but Larimar could give in to that so easily. So, so easily.

Their patrol route was fruitful, today, tonight. Was it really a patrol if they were the one to be watched out for? It was a silly little linguistics quabble that they weren't going to worry about, not when there was bright-bright-bright shrieking behind their eyes in their head, stronger when they closed their eyes and looked at darkness. It was giving them a headache. They didn't like things that gave them headaches.

Of course it was in a playground. Ugh. At least this one looked quiet.

"What are you doing out here," Larimar asked her, conversational; but their eyes were dead.

As she stared up at the sky, legs kicking back and forth, she thought she could sense one of those spider-people drawing nearer to her position, and furrowed her brow, thinking. Did she want to meet the spider person today, with their creepy-crawly feeling on her skin? Or did she want to run and hide away now, before they could do anything mean that would make her have to kick them in the skin and summon Boop?

It turned out, whatever she might have chosen did not matter. There was the sound of footsteps, and then she heard a voice come from behind her. What are you doing out here. It wasn't a question, the asker's voice kind of bland and dead kind of like a noodle with butter and no tomato sauce or garlic salt. Maybe it wasn't even butter, just like... a little extra water to float in. (Zora had made them that once. Zora was not a good cook.)

"Hi!" she said cheerfully, instead of any of the above. "I wanted to come and think, and it isn't safe to come out here at night without being a magic person. There are bad dogs, and kidnappers. I have it on good authority I'm cute and people want to keep me, so I figured coming dressed like this would be better." A pause. "What are you doing out here?"

"Oh, that's sweet." Larimar sounded half-amused, but more than that, they sounded like they were humoring her. Like most adults did to children. Like the things she were saying meant no more than just animal noises.

It was a smile, maybe, but it held none of the emotion attached to that. It was just teeth.

"Why would a girl like you want to know what I'm doing? It could be all sort of unsavory things." They advanced on her, heel-to-toe perfectly poised as they walked.

Giulia beamed happily as the spider-feeling person as they said she was sweet. (Or well, she presumed that was what they meant.) She couldn't blame them for calling her sweet, after all, it was pretty true! Unless they were bad people, doing bad things. Which...

Hmmm. This required combicaded thinking. But they had one of the big, toothy smiles that was supposed to be nice, right? Or maybe it was like when Castor bared his teeth, right before he pulled out his claws, or a dog bit someone.

"Well," she started, and paused. "I'm Charybdis. And I'm nosy. I like to know things. What's unsavry mean? Is it like..." her brow furrowed. "I mean, I guess it means naughty. But you wouldn't admit to bad things. Then you'd have to get a spanking, and no one likes those."

"Oh, darling." The way their smile split open was unpleasant and thoroughly planned. "I can admit to all the bad things I want, if there's no punishment for them." Larimar put a hand on Charybdis' shoulder (when had they gotten so close?) and, nails digging in, began to pull at her energy - they had no interest in her soul, not really, and the drama of hiding a child's body would be too much of a problem even if they'd had any interest. But for draining?

Easy target, children, when they could stand to be around any.

Oh! They thought she was darling. Well, clearly they had good taste, cause other people called her darling too, mostly the people that she liked. So she didn't pull away as they wandered closer, though she jumped when they reached out and dug nails into her thin shoulder. Ow! "That hurts!" she squawked, and then felt- light headed? "I didn't say you could touch me."

This wasn't... This wasn't normal. It was like being suddenly sick and fevery and her tummy gave a rumble, and she swayed. She was going to vomit. She- "Seal pup!" she gasped, and then she kicked at the person touching her, aiming to hit them hard, right like the suit men and Amelie told her. Since she was short, only four feet, she had to kick at the knee. Aim for soft spots.

Boop borked happily around the dramatic scene, Charybdis half about to vomit, little foot kicking out for the knee of her companion. Next she could try headbutting them, maybe. Or projectile vomit on them.

Larimar jerked away when Charybdis kicked at them, lips curling into a snarl, tucking the energy they'd pulled into their sash and - circling, was the best word for it, keeping away from her. They did take a step back to look at the seal pup.

For a little girl she kicked hard, too; they might have bruises (probably would have bruises), but Jordan never wore anything less than full-length pants so it was okay, they could hide that. It was all a balancing game of what they could hide and what they could sacrifice.

"What's the matter? Hold still. Little girls who don't listen don't get anything they want, you know."

"You're bad," Charybdis hissed as the bad person let go of her. She felt much better, without the contact, though there was enough of the tired in her right now to make her head hurt, just a little bit. She couldn't let the adult touch her again- she might fall asleep, and bad things could happen. Besides, everyone knew not to let adults touch you. "And that was a bad touch. Mama said I don't have to let people touch me if I don't like them, and I don't think I like you."

Not liking people was a growing problem for Giulia, who liked everyone. The idea of badness and realizing people didn't like her as Charybdis was.... an eye-opening experience for the seven-year-old. "I won't hold still." she slipped off of the swing, hands going onto her hips, making sure the playground equipment was between them. "I was here first, but I'm going to leave." She moved away from the bad person, chin firm. They spoke bad words, and they were an adult she didn't have to listen to.

"Oh, well." Larimar shrugged, apparently unbothered now; they wouldn't have killed Charybdis, but it wasn't like she knew that. They'd gotten their harvest, they'd gotten to menace a Senshi, and they were content with it - killing a child would have been a little too far for their warped sense of morality to justify.

She left, and they watched her go, waiting until she was out of sight to leave.
