Quote:
Giant spiders were reported at the Destiny City Botanical Garden, but upon police arrival none of the spiders could be found. This either means that everyone there had a mass hallucination, or worse…There are Giant Spiders still out there, lurking in Destiny City. You might have been at the Gardens, you might not have—but you’re about to get up close and personal with a giant spider while you are out one night. At first, nothing seems amiss; the spiders have no energy signatures and can creep silently, but they appear out of nowhere. They are easily the size of a small car and can appear alone or in groups. Their legs are strong and sharp, and they have long fans the size of steak knives. Toxic foam dribbles from their mouths, so if you’re fighting them—be careful. The spiders can be defeated or will run away if they are too damaged, but another spider will always arrive to claim the carcass of the fallen. You can run, fight, call for help—anything—just be careful. Those spider bites are a pain…

As warm and inviting as the glow from the coffee shop was, its lure did not draw Sailor Lacerta in from what she had agreed to do. Having promised to meet with Coll'arco after they battled a giant bat together the senshi of bandages had quietly returned to her home in order to borrow a tool from her dad's tool shed. She was not going up against giant spiders unarmed. Look what had happened at the Botanical Gardens. Figuring that the gardening tools would give her an advantage over the arachnids Lacerta had quietly picked out a lethal looking garden hoe and brought it along with her across town. Pulling out the phone that Mel had left with her after their first encounter the teen checked the time again. It was getting closer and closer to the time that she'd agree to meet up. Glancing once more at the glow from the window, Sailor Lacerta turned into the alleyway and proceeded to take a fire escape to the roof adjacent. She'd prefer to stay unnoticed for as long as possible. Dragging the garden hoe behind her she paced back and forth on the roof.

It was a scary thought honestly to try and track down the spiders from before. She had come too close in the maze to one and only by sheer luck had she escaped. Closing off the train of thought that something else could go wrong Lacerta inhaled deeply before jumping to the rooftop in which was picked as the meeting place. It seemed as if she was the early bird. Rubbing at her finger Lacerta closed her eyes briefly. Hopefully Coll'arco would get here soon. She knew that if her parents ever found out she was out so late there would be hell to pay.

Chcalcanthite had packed a duffel bag full of various cans of raid as well as an assortment of metal bats and metal stakes similar to what was used in the garden. His bow and arrows were always available but, may not be as well suited for the brunt of the force needed to kill these crawling beasts. It would be a bit harder to teleport like this but he would rather that than walk through town.

With some quiet focusing, he teleported to a roof that was a few blocks away from where they would be meeting. The duffel hung heavily off his shoulder as he lit and smoked a cigarette while walking, it was becoming worse of a habit as the month dragged on. It stressed him out that he was teaming up with a senshi, what would happen if she figured it out. If he told her would she hate him? Why did he care? All these thoughts and more passed lazily through his head as the nicotine slowly pushed them away and brought his focus to the matter on hand.

With some carefully timed climbing, he made his way to the roof she was on. The duffel hit the ground with a clank, metal implements hit each other as they met the rooftop. "Good evening Miss Lacerta! I brought some back up weapons as well as some bug deterrent in case it actually works. I saw a few of the spiders creeping in alleys as I made my way here but I did not get a chance to see where they are coming from. How are you faring after the event earlier?"

Strangely enough it was the thumping of the duffel bag that caused Lacerta to jump in surprise. The hoe she carried clattered to the ground and she reached down to retrieve her chosen weapon as she caught sight of Coll'arco. Steadying herself the white moon senshi walked over him and examined the size of the duffel that he had been carrying. It must have been extremely heavy. Shrugging her shoulders she wound up wincing just a little. So it seemed like she might have done a little too much in such a short period of time. Blue eyes flashed to Coll'arco as he inquired as to how she was faring. That was sort of sweet of him. Her smile was genuine as she listened to his report of seeing spiders.

"I'm faring okay I think. My finger's been rather itchy where the bat bite me but other than that I think I'm just a little tired. It's been a long night already and I have a feeling that it will get just a little bit longer. How are you faring though? You received the worst of the bat attack. Are you sure you are up to spider hunting tonight?"

She was concerned for the man. If anything after the wound he'd sustained, even after she had healed it, he should have retired for the evening. It was not her place to say anything though and so she glanced down at the city's rooftops and hoped that none of the fighting would be on the roofs. Anything could really get the jump on them up here.

The wound on his neck had disappeared thank to Lacerta's magic but the side effects still lingered in his system. A subtle haziness clung softly to him as he smiled softly. There was no need to worry about himself yet, that would be something better left for later. With a slight groan, he opened the bag and spilled the contents out onto the rooftop between them.

"I am perfectly alright for the task at hand. I have a few plans of attack involving cans of Raid or various other improvised weapons I gathered. I figured that it would be better to be over prepared than to be stuck uhmm.. how do they say it.. up the creek without a paddle?" A deep look of thought crossed his face as he spoke, it was a bit difficult for him to keep up with the terms people used still. Being in a tutoring position didn't help either as he had to remain professional.

Long black legs clicked softly against the aged pavement in the alleyway below. Searching, smelling, and looking for a feast. Hunger drove them forth into the city. Instincts set in with the pathways they took, branching out in a similar fashion to the webs they called home. Screams fell upon the cold creature without an effect, only mildly setting off their sense of direction. Meals wiggled against the webs, desperately trying to escape their fate.

Up a pipe it climbed, ever forward towards the next meal. Webs slowly draping the building beneath in a pristine trap of silk. Hunger drove it up, up, up, until it reached the top of the roof. Scanning for the vibrations that radiated ahead, it readied itself to attack. Either of the smaller things would make a perfect dinner, the others would want to know. A small tug to its pristine web sent out the ringing dinner bell to others.

Lacerta had been close to unzipping the duffel bag that Coll'arco had dropped to the ground when he had emerged on the roof top and sighed as she opened the flaps to peer inside. It was beginning to look like he had had more time to prepare for this than she had. The realization that her simple gardening tool may not be enough stand up against what may be multiple targets had her reaching inside the bag for a can of Raid. Her gaze swept the roof top that they had hopefully made their base of operations for the scuffle to ensue. It was perhaps the silence that dragged on between the duo that the white moon senshi wanted to ask about something that had been niggling at the back of her mind but before the teen could even voice her query there was a strange sound that echoed around the stillness of the night.

Clink, click, clack.

It set the hairs on the back of her neck on edge and she glanced around wildly just in time to see the first of what would be eight legs scale the roof's siding. Swallowing the sudden lump in her throat Lacerta could only will herself to move out of the thing's path. There was no way that she wanted to end up on the wrong side of one of these things again. Powered or not powered. She'd had enough of spiders. Her voice cracked as she alerted her comrade-in-arms about their visitor, "We've got company Coll'arco!"

And with that she grappled with the lid on the Raid canister before ripping it off in triumph and charging the attacking arachnid. The desire to at least disorient the spider was top priority in her mind.

Chalcanthite knocked an arrow as cover for Lacerta as she charged the spider, waiting to see what effect the toxic spray would have on the creature. He hoped there would be a perfect shot at least at it's abdomen and that he would have similar luck to what he had in the maze. "Please be careful!" He shouted after her as she closed in on the creature. There were plenty of things back in his bag if she needed an actual weapon for defense or attack. It was still interesting though, that he was working together with an Order senshi. It was nice that he wasn't being attacked or at a standstill questioning morals and methods.

Movement, the small being charged towards the spider without any weapon that it could tell. Clicking appendages tensed at the ready as it waited to see what would happen. It's spinnerets were prepped to wrap both of the beings in web for a later snack if there was an opening. Something about the larger one seemed odd but it had not tried to approach yet. It clicked it's pincers slightly as it watched and waited, these creatures could be bothersome like in the green maze.

It was hard to squash the impulse to turn around and flee from the spider after her ordeal in the maze. As her powered form surely she'd be more than a match for the eight-legged freak. It was a daunting task for sure. The balance between courage and stupidity was a thin one that the senshi of bandages was walking tonight. Aiming the spray can in which she held directly at the spider Lacerta caught the warning from her ally in the fight but kept her attention on what needed to be done next. Slowing her dash across the roof her fingers tightened on her chosen weapon as she pressed down on the can of bug spray. She held out her arm as straight as she could and aimed the debilitating liquid towards the spider.

"I'm being careful, but these things need to be dealt with as soon as possible."

The teen knew that she would have to dodge to a side in order not to collide with the creature. Her instincts screamed to dive to the left and she promptly did so after scoring what she hoped was a direct hit on the arachnid.

**

A second arachnid had felt the vibrations of the one that had climbed up the side of the building moments earlier and interpreted the message of possible dinner/snacks and began to scale the cement wall with an eagerness that belied its size. It was a runt in comparison to the others it hunted with but it was able to move faster and sometimes undetected.

With a smile on his face, he lit the tip of the arrow and shot it at the creature, igniting the bug spray as Lacerta dodged out of the way. His shot had been true as always, hitting the creature right in its exposed abdomen. The smell reeked as it burned through the spider without mercy. As the creature flailed, Chalcanthite bolted and picked up Lacerta to get her away from the crazed creature as it burned. They remained on the roof closer to their original position now. With a careful look over, he set her back down on her feet before apologizing for grabbing her without her permission. Turning back to look at the creature, he pondered an idea that may help thin the heard so to speak. It would solidly out him as a negaverse member though which could prove detrimental to his partnership with Lacerta.

Red, all that could be seen were the flickering flames that consumed. flailing and rolling against the unforgiving flames proved no use as the spray accelerated the fire's deadly path. Its vision grew blurry as it frantically clawed out towards the horrible beings that fought against its will. With one small miss step, the spider fell over the edge of the roof and lit its webs aflame in the process. With a crack, it hit the pavement and ceased to exist in this world.

There was a moment in which Lacerta wasn't sure what was happening as she had dived to the ground to escape running smack into a spider and then the next thing she knew she was being set down away from the burning husk of the spider that she'd initially set out to attack. Hearing Coll'arco apologize for grabbing her like that the teen ducked her head. Coll'arco felt like he had to apologize but in her mind he had probably just saved her from a possible flattening. Shaking her head the senshi of bandages noted the bow & arrow set once more before realization dawned on how at least the spider had ended up in flames.

Purple eyes scanned the rooftop as the first spider toppled over the edge to the ground below. It seemed as it that one was most certainly dead but were there others to deal with? Listening to the city's bustling noise rising from below Lacerta glanced uncertainly at Coll'arco - the battle couldn't be over yet? Could it?

**

Perhaps it was sheer dumb luck that the second arachnid had remained undetected for an extended period of time. It seethed with the fact that these 'prey' had killed one of its brethren. Anger surged inside its mind at the fact that it needed be sneaky in order to get the jump on the duo it now watched. Teasing a strand of silk from its spinnerets it let the slight breeze carry it towards the duo. Would they feel the strand of silk if it landed on them? Only time could answer that. For now, subtle movements were required as one by one it let out more strands. It wanted to snare the prey first, without detection if possible.
