Sitting at the fireplace of his home, Dexurn couldn't fend off the frown etching his features as he watched the crackling flames. Everywhere, everyone was talking about the threat of the Dretch. Beings who could vanish in thin air, were kidnapping people...

The Matorian glanced at his shield which hung on the wall. He had missed out on the meeting where the Dretch had been witnessed, and found himself doubting that it would have even mattered if he had been there. Now the leaders of the lands were gathering together to discuss this latest threat. He had been but a youngling during the war on Oba, but he could still remember the war against the Alkidike attacks. He did not want to see his children involved in such a thing.

Nevermind that this new threat was completely unknown. Would their leaders really be able to figure out how to fight the Dretch?

It was getting harder and harder to travel between Oba and Matori. Ever since those dreadful creatures had appeared Shadiya had stayed home longer and rarely traveled without her family at her side. She wasn't the type of woman to put up a fuss or worry about something openly but this one thing did actually manage to unnerve Shadiya. She had a family after all and even though her oldest were strong and she had faith in them the worry was still there. That worry was even more so with her youngest three children, all of whom were too young to even touch a weapon yet.

But things would be okay, they had to be. Shadiya took a deep breath before smoothing out her silk skirts and walking from her bedroom. Now that she had uncovered her inheritance and opened a dance school in Oba their family had afforded to expand their Matori manor into a bigger estate. It wasn't a grand place, but it was one with plenty of room for seven that was comfortable. And it was through the long hallway that Shadiya walked until she spotted her husband sitting before the flickering light of the fireplace, "Sweetie." Shadiya breezed into the room and bent to kiss Dexurn's cheek, "Your face will get stuck like that if you keep staring so intently into the flames." She reached a hand to rub it along his back, "What's on your mind?"

Shadiya's voice was a song on the air, and Dex was able to pull up a small smile for her to try relaxing his features. "The same thing that is on everyone else's. What else could it be?" He straightened up and pulled Shade onto his lap, hugging her close for comfort and pressing a kiss to her shoulder with a heavy sigh. "I hear the heads are gathering to plan how to fight the Dretch... and I wonder how they could even plan a good place to begin a defense like that."

Shadiya curled her legs up as she settled on Dexurn's lap, "Ah, I see." The woman had a soft smile though her gaze lowered in an attempt to hide her expression of worry, "That's a good question." She replied quietly as she rested her head against his shoulder, "Some are even worried that the Dretch will somehow know about the meeting and take all of our leaders on the spot." She let out a sigh before continuing, "Though with the rumors I also hear I doubt the Dretch will even be bothered that the leaders are meeting at all." Why would they be? Couldn't they move through air without a trace? Who could stop that?

He hated putting such things into words and risking upsetting his wife, but it wasn't as though Shadiya were oblivious to what was going on. Heck, she was smarter than he was! "These are not an enemy we know. I hear hear the Alkidike know something about them, but they are being tight lipped. Not really a surprise there." He shook his head slightly. "I can't help feeling that the Dretch are as unconcerned as you say."

Brow knitting again, he raised his hand to pet Shade's arm. "I have to admit though.. my concern isn't for the leaders as much as it is for you and the kids. I hope they figure out something worthwhile at that meeting.."

Resting on his lap Shadiya listened to her husband's words with her lips slightly pursed in a thoughtful expression, "Perhaps they are just sorting through their own stories - hard to believe that such creatures could exist and I'm certain what they know of them have been shifted over time. Everything changes especially when generations after generations begin to tinker with a tale, darling." She squeezed her arms lovingly around his shoulders as she situated herself on his lap once more.

"Exactly~ If they were worried about our leaders why not attack earlier or at the big meetings that happened a while back? I feel like these creatures are looking for something or just attacking at random without much of a care for what our plans are." She sighed, "Which actually terrifies me to think since we must be truly insignificant to them, Dexurn." The Oban closed her eyes tightly, "I do hope those leaders are able to come up with something, maybe they can get some answers from the Alkidikes and devise a good strategy to help all of us."

"Don't worry, I'm confident in our oldest to take care of themselves and the babies have you and me." She smiled up at him before kissing his jaw lightly, "Just believe in the gods and the fate that brought us together to also provide for a safe future for our family~"

Dex smiled sourly. "I guess a few generations of stories does twist the truth a little. I hope that's the case here." Insignificant... "I wish there was more that I could do myself. The gods know I'm not a leader, but I've gotten used to being able to do what needs doing. With this though, there's nothing I can do. Just waiting for someone else to figure it out."

The fate that brought them together... His life had become better than he had ever imagined it would be. If he lost anyone... Letting out a slow breath, he managed a smile for his wife. "And they have everyone who lives in this town. It is reassuring that everyone here is willing to watch out for each other."

"Aww, I know sweetie." Shadiya snuggled up against her husband and trailed a finger along his jawline, "Honestly though I'm happier with you here with us. It's much safer and I feel truly protected when you're home. So in a sense you're doing a lot by being here in case one of those nasties dare to appear near us." She leaned her head forward to press a kiss against his neck, "Patience is a virtue they say and we can only pray that everything resolves for the better." Honestly she was terrified if there was something he could do. What if he went off to battle against these things? All she had was a lousy dagger and a good drop kick....what would that do against these creatures? And it didn't seem like they were the type to succumb to dancing either.

She nodded her head, "We are fortunate indeed that this town is so protective of everyone. I'm glad we decided to settle here." She felt safe, had a family, and could enjoy life. Well enjoy it as best as she could when there weren't dark creatures attacking people throughout all of the countries...

He couldn't help the wave of pride that rose with Shade's assurances. He wanted to do everything he could to protect his family... If him being here rather than out there was what he needed to do to accomplish that, then who was he to complain? Wars took lives.. and he had only had a taste of the war with the Alks long ago. He had no desire to see more.

He hugged his arms around her tighter, giving her an affectionate squeeze. "It seems like the best we can do is what we've been doin' for now. Just stick together." A real smile was finally able to rise with a playful glint. "...I don't mind sticking close to you at all~"

As her husband hugged her Shadiya smiled, "That sounds like the best plan." She replied before mischievously shifting so that she could sit facing him on the chair, "I also don't mind sticking close to you." She tilted her head as she studied him before pursing her lips in a playful pout, "Though it's hard to get closer to you on a chair." She twisted, her long and slender legs escaping the slits of her dress, before standing so that she could walk up to the fireplace, "I could stand here by the fire, make some tea, or we could find another way to warm up if you'd like." Shadiya teased lightly as she peeked back towards Dexurn, "Despite everything going on I do know one thing and that's how much I love you and our family." She confessed lightly, a moment of seriousness flickering through her playful actions, "So let's just live as we are and if trouble dares to show up then we'll face it together."

Brow rising, he glanced down at the chair he was settled into before nodding slowly. "There are more comfortable places for us to get close," he said lightly. Watching the firelight make Shade's dark skin glow... she was as beautiful as ever...

Standing as well, Dex walked over to pull Shade into another hug. "So, face things as we always have, right?" he suggested playfully, kissing the top of her head.

Shadiya's mouth curved upwards into the most tempting of smiles, "I'm glad you agree." She purred the words as she raised a leg to wrap around him as he embraced her once more, "Face things as we always have?" She repeated the words before slowly nodding, "Of course. How else would we be here where we are?" She raised her arms so that she could drape them around his strong shoulders, "If it hadn't been for you coming into my life I honestly don't think I could have become half the person that I am today."

She probably still would be on the run, constantly fearing for her safety and freedom if not for his strength and support. His love, their family's love, all of it had made her bloom into such a strong woman. And no damn dretch was going to take any of that or them from her. That much Shadiya silently vowed as she moved to press her lips against her husband's jaw where she trailed kisses towards his mouth.

"I would say the same thing... you made me who I am," he said softly, petting the small of her back. For his part, Dex didn't like to even think about what would have happened to him without Shadiya's influence. Before, he had been just completely lost. Recently released from slavery, unable to read, no money, and no confidence, he had not been equipped at all to face the world on his own.

Smirking lightly, he scooped his wife up into his arms to carry her where it was more comfortable for the both of them. If called.. he would help to fight. For now, his greatest treasures were right in front of him, and they needed him more.

Shadiya felt that familiar warmth blooming in her chest. No matter how long it had been since their first kiss the desire, the giddiness of first love continued to exist whenever she was with Dexurn like this. Honestly she doubted she would ever get tired of that handsome face, of those strong hands that made her feel so dear and protected, "I love you." She whispered softly as he scooped her up in his arms.

Her crimson gaze flickered closed as she snuggled against his chest and in the moment the Dretch were the least of her worries. How could she feel fear when her husband was with her after all? No matter what they would find a way - they always had and she truly believed that they always would.
