Being bitten by a giant spider is uncomfortable enough, but worse than the sharp pain you feel on impact are the linger effects of the bite. Being bitten can cause nausea, dizziness, fatigue and hallucinations. These symptoms can begin immediately after being bitten or can manifest up to a few hours after the toxins are introduced to the bloodstream. These symptoms may only last for a few hours—or up to 72 hours. You, or someone you know, has the misfortune of being bitten; no medicine seems to help this ailment, so you’re stuck weathering this one out on your own.
They’d been sent home after being checked over and patched up and prescribed a couple of things, but it hadn’t gotten any better. Not for Matt. Kaida had called into work for a few days, and shot an email off to her teachers that she’d be MIA for a few days as well, because she could afford to take the hit, especially at work, since she could, if it came down to it, call her parents. Yuki couldn’t; Odin wasn’t a lenient man for all he loved his son. And neither of them was leaving him alone, or subjecting poor Abby to taking care of him alone. She had been making hot and sour soup for the man when she heard something crash and break, both spooking her and causing her to put a hand into the pocket where her henshin pen just barely stuck out.
“Matt? Matt, are you okay?” She turned the oven off and made her way over to his room, cautious but quick as her sprained ankle and bruised leg would allow. Hopefully it was just him trying to...well, be him while sick. She really needed to start moving anything breakable away from his bed when he wasn’t feeling good. “Matt, it’s Kaida. What’s going on in there?”
He was tired of being in bed. He was tired of feeling like he couldn't support his own body weight, and like he couldn't keep anything down. And he was really tired of seeing s**t that wasn't there. And he knew Kaida meant well, he'd known her for damn near all of their lives, after all, but she was being a mother hen and a little smothering. It probably didn't help she was injured, too.
His internal pity party was thrown off course when he swore he saw a spider out the corner of his eye, a small noise of panic escaping him as he lashed out with an arm. And instead of hitting a spider away, he found himself knocking over the Chia Pet Kaida's baby sister had gotten him for his birthday. Oh...well s**t.
"I know it's you. I...I'm fine. Trump might not be though." Okay, so he might have named the Chia pet while horribly drunk.

Trump....OH. The Chia pet! Kaida sighed, shaking her head and making a detour to grab a broom and dustpan. "You get to tell Christine. See, this is why I'm going to start moving anything that could possibly break away from your bed when you're sick. Especially like this." Item grabbed, she hobbled over and winced at the sight of the shattered Chia pet on the floor. "Man. How hard did you hit it to make it shatter like that? And why did you even hit it?" He hadn't been sick like this in years, and it worried her.

Matt groaned and flumped back in his bed, covering his eyes with an arm. "Great. She's gonna be heartbroken. Why are you making me break her heart? I'm pretty sure your baby sister has some sort of puppycrush on me. Or did, at least." He also just hated disappointing people that actually saw him as more than what was on the surface. "I thought I saw one of those spiders. So I lashed out. Apparently managed to whack the thing pretty good. And you really shouldn't be on your feet with that ankle. I know you sprained it, Kaida." Just as she fussed over him, he fussed over her. And plus, her job required her to be on her feet! Creative as she was, a limp would not look good in her burlesque shows. It just wouldn't.

"Yes, you get to break her heart. You broke it, you get to fess up." The blonde rolled her eyes, wincing as she stepped a bit wrong. "Pretty sure she's over that crush. Now Kimi on the other hand? Good luck there. Though with Kimi it's less an actual crush and more she just has shittier luck with romance than I ever had." Which reminded her...she needed to sit down and talk with Albert. Oh she was not looking forward to that talk. It...it had the potential to go very badly. "Now, if you think you see another spider, don't strike out, because there's no way those giant ******** can get in here, and I was making you hot and sour. Might do you some good to have something in your stomach for at least a little bit." Was she avoiding the topic of her being on her feet? Yes, yes she was. But she knew 'someone needs to take care of you, dummy' wasn't an excuse that was going to fly with Matt. It never had, and never would. It was just how Matt was, just like she would never stop looking after him in return.

"I still want to punch Kimi's last boyfriend, for the record." Oh geez, there was another wave of nausea. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to will the feeling away. He didn't want to puke. Especially not if Kaida was making one of the few soups he actually liked. "Mmmm, you're dodging the question, princess. You need to rest, too. I know you love your job, and you can't do it if you ******** up your ankle." Okay, no. Nausea wasn't going away. He rolled over and grabbed for the bin Yuki had made sure to put next to his bed before leaving for his classes that day, heaving a couple of times before the nausea finally let him be.
"Can...can you pass me my water jug? I need this taste out of my mouth asap." He hated being sick so damn much. If he ever saw another one of those spiders for real, he was taking a goddamn flamethrower to it. He knew how to make one, it shouldn't be too hard. "Can you at least get Abby's help doing things that require you to be on your feet? I doubt she'll say no." Abby was good people.

Kaida was quick to hand Matt the water jug in question once he finished throwing up, a look of sympathy on her face. "I...I'll ask Abby to help. I just worry about you. You're my friend, part of my soul, and I want to know you'll be okay. Especially after all that." Hell, one day, she knew she was going to have to tell him about the truth of the 'terrorists' of Destiny City, and where the true evil lay. "Hey Matt? You know you mean the world to me, right? I know we don't spend as much time together because of work and school and the fact I'm dating again, but...you will never stop meaning the world to me."

Oh. Is that what had been eating at her lately? He knew she'd been acting off a bit for a while, but...He sighed and smiled weakly at her. "I know. And you mean the world to me, too. Don't worry so much, though. We survived going to different high schools. I think we can survive life conspiring against our bonding time. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and all that jazz." Taking the jug, he swished some of the water around in his mouth and spit it into the bin before chugging a good amount. "You, me, and Yuki? We're an unstoppable trio. Like the Destiny Islands trio, but with less 'one of us being tempted by the bad guys and one getting turned into a doll pretty much for a game'."

Oh if only Matt knew the horrible possibilities out there. But he was right. Like usual. "Yeah. Yeah we are." She returned his smile with a tired one of her own. "We should dress as them someday. Take all the bro-tee-three pictures. Drive the shippers crazy because we don't do that shippy stuff in costume." Kaida couldn't help the giggle that escaped her. She was as ship-loving as the next person, but there was a certain satisfaction in driving the militant shippers crazy. "For now, though, I'm going to finish making your soup, and you rest. And once that's done, we can settle in for horrible B-rated horror movies. Sound good?"

"Hell yes we'll drive them nuts. Yuki and I aren't kissing, not like that, nor are we kissing you like that. That, my friends, would basically be incest and is made of nope." Nausea passing for the moment, he settled himself into a more comfortable position. "That sounds amazing, though. Soup and horrible movies and the company of the most awesome lady in my life." He made a motion as if to shoo her out so everything could happen faster, shifting again so he could doze a bit until the soup was ready.
Being sick sucked like hell, but at least he had a hell of an awesome friend to look out for him during it.
