A new candy store is giving free promotional candy to try and attract new customers. At first, it’s delicious; it’s easily one of the best candies you’ve ever had. Only, within twenty four hours of eating your first piece, you begin to have extreme tooth pain that can last for up to a whole day. It feels like a cavity, but a trip to the dentist reveals nothing strange. It just hurts. While the pain eventually fades, you’ll remember how much it hurt. Is your drive for Halloween Candy dented or are you still gearing up for more?
Sachio sighed as he waited in the dentist’s office for his sister. He really shouldn’t have been here. He should have been to the gardening store, or doing some self-defense or just taking a freaking nap! But NOOOO! His sister just had to go and eat that store candy that he had warned her not to eat. He had been having a great day so far, and now?! He was stuck in the doctor’s office with over a dozen other people also complaining about the same symptoms in regard to the candy. He was more than a bit irritated with the whole situation. After all, it was his fault that she had eaten the candy, but his father had insisted that he take her to the dentist when she started to complain about paint. Something about being ‘busy’ or something. Sachio doubted the candy could have done much in that amount of time, considering that if she had chipped her tooth or something they would have known right away.
But nope, he had to spend his time here, reading a book as he waited for the dentist to finish whatever procedure they were doing. He hoped for a root canal.
It had all started when the both of them were going to do a bit of shopping downtown. Although he wasn’t looking for clothes, they were trying to figure out what to get in terms of candy for Halloween and for lunch that day. After they had eaten at a relatively nice café, both of them having some nice hot tea to go with their meals, they had wandered around a bit, weather permitting, before his sister had noticed a small commotion going outside one of the sweet stores. Sachio had had his eye on a bakery down the street, but his sister insisted that they visit the already too-crowded candy store. With a roll of his eyes he dutifully followed his sister to the store.
When they were finally able to tell what was going on, Sachio already knew this was going to be trouble. It was a free candy promotion that they were giving out. Honestly, if they’re giving them out for free, you know they’re going to be bad. He thought to himself as he watched his sister grab a bunch of them at once and trying one. She popped one into her mouth and ‘mmed’ a bit. “Sachio, you should try this!” She said, her mouth full of the candy piece still. Sachio made a face before shaking his head. “No thank you. I think I’ll stick with the tried and true candy that we know can be trusted.” He said. His sister rolled her eyes, but followed him out of the store. The rest of the afternoon had mostly gone without a problem and they had found a few huge bags of full-sized candy they could give out, before heading back home.
It wasn’t until a few hours later that his sister had started to complain about pain in her teeth. And at that point Sachio knew it was just that candy’s fault… somehow. But there was no use in warning her now, she had already eaten it, and was now experiencing the side effects. And he could only wait in the dentist’s office for her to come back out. She was not going to live this down so easily.
