Prompt Giant spiders were reported at the Destiny City Botanical Garden, but upon police arrival none of the spiders could be found. This either means that everyone there had a mass hallucination, or worse…There are Giant Spiders still out there, lurking in Destiny City. You might have been at the Gardens, you might not have—but you’re about to get up close and personal with a giant spider while you are out one night. At first, nothing seems amiss; the spiders have no energy signatures and can creep silently, but they appear out of nowhere. They are easily the size of a small car and can appear alone or in groups. Their legs are strong and sharp, and they have long fans the size of steak knives. Toxic foam dribbles from their mouths, so if you’re fighting them—be careful. The spiders can be defeated or will run away if they are too damaged, but another spider will always arrive to claim the carcass of the fallen. You can run, fight, call for help—anything—just be careful. Those spider bites are a pain…
The movie had ended much later than expected, not that Alrik minded much. Now that he was out of high school and a grown up, silly things like curfews didn't seem to matter much to him.
The Monster Movie-thon had him leaving the theater around two in the morning, worn out sneakers kicking at random pebbles and debris along the way as he ambled his way back towards his sister's apartment. Their parents weren't very keen on him coming home at all hours of the night but Penny didn't seem to mind... much.
Everything was going fairly hunky-dory (or at least as close to hunky-dory at two in the morning could go) when he heard a loud CRUNCH in the distance.
Eyes widened as he looked up from his pebble kicking. In the not-terribly-far distance, three huge spiders were busy skittering their way around and about the street, the overhead lamplights shining down on their ominous, fang-displaying bodies. They... they were enormous and Alrik automatically ducked himself behind the nearest car as the first instinctive reaction he could think of.
Oh my god, since when were monsters real????
Next instinctive reaction: call his sister for help.
So, without hesitation, he whipped out his cell phone and hit the shortcut for dialing his older sister, praying all the while that she'd actually pick up the phone at such a godawful early hour.
"C'mon Penny, pick up, pick up, pick up."

While her dorky brother was out binge watching bad quality monster movies, Penelope Rey was working through her tumblr fic requests for ships to fit with her list of Halloween prompts. Expectedly, most of them were for Overwatch and she had no idea why people kept clambering over themselves to beg her to write certain pairings when she'd never played the game but, hey, they lined her pocket with extra funds so she'd comply.
She had been sitting on her couch, with a show playing in the background, muted, and music blared from the speakers of her laptop while the click, click, tap, tap, click of keyboard keys getting pushed down by dainty fingers. Her music was loud enough that she almost missed her brother's phonecall, with the phone vibrating on the armrest of her couch.
A frown pursed on her lips, blue eyes squinting at the caller ID.
Ali never called unless he needed something, usually he sent her text messages. With a sigh, she paused in her fic writing to slide her thumb over the answer call button. Pressing the phone between her ear and shoulder she said, "What do you want?" The typing noise resumed, she was in the middle of describing a particularly steamy scene and damnit it, she was going to finish!

Finally!
"Penny." His voice was hushed, barely whispered out as eyes peeked over the head of the car and stared off down the street. Alrik wasn't sure how well hearing was for a creature like a spider... did they have decent hearing? Or were they one of those creatures that sucked when it came to listening? Would he be able to talk louder or was he jeopardizing himself at even this hushed level??
"Penny there's... I need you to get your car and come get me. I'm over by the old Mullin's theater. You're not going to freaking believe this."
She probably wouldn't believe it... but even if she didn't, he clearly did and he needed his older sister to bail him out once more.
.... and it wasn't like he'd even done anything, this time!

She was only half listening to her brother's voice as she tried to chase that last line that was forming in her thoughts until it was pushed into digital paper. "No. I'm busy," she replied automatically, squinting at her screen. Alrik would likely hear rustling as she shifted, the phone nearly slipping from the crook of her neck.
"Shoot."
Pen had to scramble to catch it before it tumbled, knocking the computer out of her lap and onto the cushions beside her. With a long, drawn out sigh, she resigned herself to not finishing her story by the deadline she had given to herself. "You're a goddamn captain, can't you handle this on your own for once?" She huffed, irritably setting her laptop on the coffee table. Now that both hands were free she rubbed her face and stood up, shuffling towards the door where she could slide into her ugg boots.
She wasn't changing out of her PJs if she was just going to pick up her stupid brother who got himself into some stupid mess she had to clean up. Again.
"Fine. I'll be there in ten." Keys were snatched from the hooks she had put up on the wall by the door as was a jacket that she slid over her arms.

Ten minutes.
Ten long, excruciating minutes of waiting for his sister to show up and save the day.
Alrik wasn't sure if he was going to last ten minutes, but he didn't have an option - he had to try. Already, one of the three spiders had taken off after a shrieking hobo who'd made the mistake of getting too close to the apparently-not-a-drunken-stupid-dream creatures and Alrik had shuddered at the sound of the loud hiss the spider had elicited.
While he'd never considered himself afraid of spiders, he was SERIOUSLY considering taking on that particular fear for the future. Since when did spiders grow to be the size of small cars???
Fingernails dug into the random car he'd taken refuge behind, terrified eyes looking around as he waited for the familiar headlights of his sister's car.

It didn't take her too long to reach the address her brother had hastily rattled off at her. Her compact car pulled up, headlights flashing over the parked car and blue eyes skimmed the area, barely noting the strange gathering of spiders because she spotted her brother first. Rolling down the window her elbow pressed into the center console when she leaned over. "Ali!" She called, if he hadn't already spotted her.
"Get in!" Her voice carried an irritated tone to it as she glared at him. "You interrupted my writing time for this?" She waved at what she thought was nothing serious but then, then she spotted what had freaked him out as he clamored into her vehicle. Immediately her finger was on the window button to roll it up and then, the car was shifted into drive again so she could complete a three point turn and take the car in a direction that would get them the hell out of dodge there.
"You know," she scolded, glancing at him as she drove off. "Next time, just power up and teleport away." They had cool abilities for a reason.
A pause and then, "You owe me."
She'd collect on that a few days later, surely.
