Quote: It seems like a normal day, considering all the odd happenings you can usually expect from Destiny City. The weather’s great, the people are tolerable, and everything’s going fine. You are out, enjoying the good fortune, when you catch a familiar face in the crowd: yours. They are wearing your clothes, your face, and you see them for only a second but a feeling of dread floods through you. They smirk, like they know they’ve won—and then you lose them in the crowd. No matter how hard you look, you can’t find any sight of them, but a feeling of dread and being watched follows you for the rest of the day. Today was the day. Miss Kitty wasn't a mauvian to let nerves go wasted, so she'd used having NERVES OF STEEL!!! today to go out and find some late-season, grocery store slived watermelon, and a nice big tub at that, before carrying it awkwardly to a place she'd asked Broderick to meet her. Her owner had been a lovely help -- really, Ally awakening as a page delighted her to no end of her little heart, and the feline's tail switched as she moved through the crowd, humming. She was gonna do it. She was onna ask Broderick to be her tomfriend. Boyfriend. Hers. Her tom? Whatever words, and the mauvian was even bouncing a little when she saw it. A face in a sea of legs at the pet park, and Kitty sat where she was, putting her tub doown and blinking as her fur rose in a ridge up her back. Was that... Her faqce?" "Uhmmm..." She blinked, and it seemed to smirk before disappearing, and the mauvian blinked, highly unsettled. "What?!"

Broderick was on his way to meet Miss Kitty, and though he knew that he had to hurry at least a little, he was finding it difficult not to take his time and enjoy the walk. Oh, it wasn't that he didn't want to meet up with her - far from it, in fact! But it was such a nice day for a walk; the temperature was mild and nobody was walking close enough to him that he felt there was any risk of getting stepped on. So yes, he was looking forward to his destination, but he was also enjoying the journey. He'd meet Miss Kitty, they would have a nice time (and if super lucky, maybe eat some watermelon before it was all finally, truly gone for the year), and that would be that. He hummed a little as he stepped along, only pausing to blink at what looked like another cat weaving through foot traffic just as he was. At first he didn't see much more than motion, but when he looked over... it was like staring into a mirror. A mirror that smirked at him, with his whiskers, his eyes, and - and it was gone. Fur puffing and tail frizzing into a bottlebrush, Broderick yelped and took off at a dead run, unwillling to stick around after that sight. And there was Kitty with a tub, and - oh, he hoped it was kitty, what if it wasn't?!? What if it was another thing like he'd seen and - and - "ROOOOOOOOWR!"

"Brody, Brody breathe." Kitty moved, leaning on him before nosing him to the tub of watermelon and purred soothingly, grooming between his eatrs to try calming the darling cheeto-puff. "Shhh, I'm here. I brought watermelon. What's wrong? Did that creepy clone hurt you?" She fluffed. "Do I need to protect you?"

"Did you see it? Did you?" Broderick shook and wrapped himself around Kitty tlike a fuzzy orange blanket, shivering with wild green eyes. "IS there more than one, did you see one that looked like you or the one that looked like me?" He meowed again, a stressed, unhappy sound, and buried his face in Kitty's shoulder. "I heard somewhere that if you see someone that looks just like you you're going to drop dead three days later I don't wanna dieeeeeeeeee!"

"Well..." Kitty mused. "I did, but Ally says you die because your doppleganger surprise-kills you. We won't figure this out by just panicking all the way, though. I brought a present for us to share?" And she nosed the tub. "Look, watermelon. Let's think and eat, then we'll see if we can't track this thing down."

"If... you're sure," Brody said, trying to calm down. He backed off from Miss Kitty and tried to put his fur back in order - a challenge when you were as fluffy as he was - then sighed. "...do you think there's just one? Or are there two? And what do we do with them if they're out there...?" Could they fight them? Would they die if they tried? Would the things go away if left alone? .... He really hoped that last one was the case. "I guess... Well. We can't think without watermelon-fuel, anyway!"

"I'm not sure. I doubt we'll die if we fight them." Miss Kitty nodded, and motioned to the with a paw, opening the tub for him softly. "So,Ihad a question for youby the way!" Miss Kitty purred, moving to drop the first big piece she found at his paws. Of course she'd get some too, but this was important. "I was wondering..." And then her double seemed to be STARING across the footpath full of people, and she jumped, hissing at her. "THAT." Kitty growled. "HEY HEY! MINE!"

"I hope you're right," Broderick said, bending to nibble at the watermelon thoughtfully. "I really don't want to die." Which was kind of a given, but he felt it needed stated anyway. "What did you want to ask?" He looked away from the watermelon then, startled when Kitty jumped and hissed. "Miss Kitty? What is it? What's -" He looked where she was looking, and at first didn't quite notice what was going on - at least, not until he looked to his right and saw his double again. "...They're back, aren't they."

" YES." Miss Kitty hissed, practically on her tiptoes as she puffed up large, and wobbled, tottering a bit as she growled and climbed on Brody's back to cling, ears going flat as the growl kept coming and the mauvian hissed, huffed, and puffed at her double. A double that was staring, first at Brody, then the watermelon, and acting CLUELESS while SMIRKING ! AND! "MINE! MY WATERMELON MY TOM MINE MINE MINE HSSSSSS!" ...OK so maybe Bitchkity had taught her bad manners but he WAS... If he wanted to bne. Her double seemed absolutely unphased, merely sniffing in their direction befoire delicately walking over, and mrewling.

Whatever these doppelgangers were, Brody was pretty sure they weren't here for the watermelon. So,frightened though he was, he found any terror he was feeling entirely outweighed by confusion at how Miss Kitty was acting. "Uh.... Kitty? Maybe that's not the way to deal with them...?" He suggested, trying not to panic as his own lookalike drew near. And - wait a minute. "....Your tom?" What. What?

Aaaand she'd hoped he hadn't heard. Miss Kitty squeaked, rolling off of him in that moment to look at her paws awkwardly. "Well... I mean... I wanted to ask if... Uhm.." She blinked, and puffed at her doppleganger a moment, the other Kitty pausing before she looked over. "Did youwant to be my boyfriend or tomfriend or however it's called?" And she buried her face in her paws. Her nerves were shot now, and the mauvian cat whimpered, sighing as her double more than contentedly pad over, little nose twitching. "Mew!"

Brody blinked, attention momentarily stolen from the creepy doppelgangers by Kitty's words. "Oh. Uhm. ...yes?" He knew the answer wasn't no, but he was more than a little surprised that she was asking. He liked her -she was pretty and nice and had excellent taste in treats! But... what was he supposed to do now? He squeaked, then moved to stand protectively over the watermelon as he eyed the doppelgangers. "I think we have bigger problems right now, though!"

He said yes! Miss Kitty purred, before sniffing as her doppleganger blinked at Brody, and slumped. No merry jangling of a bell met their ears, but in a submissive droop, and the kitty huddled, laying down. And only then did Miss Kitty get a good look at her, the mauvian's nose twitching before she touched her paw. Up close, there were differences - paw sizes, the fur length... No collar nor tiny pink hat, and Miss Kitty blinked, taking a peice of watermelon delicately before placing it at the small female's paws. "I don't think they're mauvians or clones, Brody. They seem like KITTENS!"

Brody blinked, taking a cursory sniff as the orange fluffball crept nearer, and had to wonder how much of what he'd seen before was real and how much was imagination, because these... these were just regular cats. Not even cats, but kittens. Frightened kittens, judging by the way the little orange one mewled plaintively and promptly fell over its own feet. "Uhm... what are we supposed to do with them, then?" He asked uncertainly, looking between his fellow Mauvian and the kittens that didn't look as much like either of them as he had thought. Had he been imagining the creepy smirks? The mimicry of his own form and clothes? "... Maybe I've been reading too many scary stories lately."

"Or angles and things.. Plus we only glimpsed them..." Miss Kitty nosed the watermelon to the orange kitten as well, and looked to Broderick. "Can your myammy take them? If not I can hide them until we find someone, or I can try my girl, or - I don't feel right leaving them. They're so thin..." And neatly, the feline groomed both, humming.
