A new candy store is giving free promotional candy to try and attract new customers. At first, it’s delicious; it’s easily one of the best candies you’ve ever had. Only, within twenty four hours of eating your first piece, you begin to have extreme tooth pain that can last for up to a whole day. It feels like a cavity, but a trip to the dentist reveals nothing strange. It just hurts. While the pain eventually fades, you’ll remember how much it hurt. Is your drive for Halloween Candy dented or are you still gearing up for more?
“Well, everything is looking good in there.” Dr. Yee said as he sat back in his chair to reach up and turn off the light above. “You need to schedule a good cleaning but overall, I don’t see any cavities, sores, or anything to worry about. Though have you considered getting those wisdom teeth out?” The old Asian man was commenting softly as is hand gently put down his pick and mirror. It appeared as if he was about to say something else but never got the chance.
Red hair popped up out of the chair in full force as Racheal Astor sat up glaring at the man. “What do you mean everything looks good? Something has to be wrong! There is no way my body magically decided that a tooth ache would appear today! Check again!”
Rae was fuming as she leaned back down and opened her mouth. She was not taking no for an answer. Hell, this pain had messed up her entire day! She was supposed to be meeting with a very important client and instead here she was with a paper bib around her neck. Not to mention drinks with a new residential client that had the potential to end up as a date if she played her cards right. The man was, for lack of better words, a hunk.
No, she didn’t have time for this.
“Ms. Astor, I assure you that…”
“And I assure you that I’m not imagining this! I would not try to screw up my entire day and potentially my entire week but dreaming up a killer tooth ache to waste my time laying in a chair while you poke and prod at my mouth!” Rae was livid. Her eyes were the size of dinner plates as she sat up and ripped at the ‘bib’ from around her neck. Dr. Yee attempted to help but a quick slap of her hand out to him and he backed off. “Ms. Astor, please calm down.”
“Calm down…Calm down!” Rae barked, sliding from the chair and pulled her pencil skirt down to adjust it once more. “Calm down he says. HA!” Grabbing her bag from the chair, she didn’t even wait to hear more of what he said and marched straight from the examining room, passed the receptionist trying to wave her down, and out into the waiting room.
“Bill me!” She screamed back. “I’m not wasting another moment here. And if you have issues with that, take it up with my insurance!”
The bell dinged as she yanked the door closed behind her, slipped into her car and tore out of the drive way.
“Calm Down. Everything’s fine…” Rae muttered to herself as she pulled up to a stoplight and slowed down. Leaning her elbow on the window frame, Rae pushed the palm of her hand into her jaw. God it hurt.
And all from a piece of candy. What had been in that thing? A rock! Oh sure, Rae didn’t regret eating it, the taste had been worth breaking her pre-holiday diet but the after effects…
“Should have stuck to salads.” She sighed as the light turned green and she took off.
