It was early evening but it had been good thus far, as he had been out at one of the many Korean restaurants in the city with Jessie - his treat. It was, in part, a lesson in Korean for her...a sort of test. The menu had been in Korean and he'd told her to give orders in Korean as well. If she had needed help he'd jumped in to assist, but there really was no better way to learning a language than having to use it.

The food had been good, no surprise there, and Jessie had done well as expected. She had been learning well, as had the other people he'd been teaching Korean to. It really wasn't a hard language to learn, unlike Chinese which he couldn't grasp as easily as English as it was very tonal. He had picked up, over time, a few words and phrases from Fai but it was far from enough to hold any sort of conversation.

Slipping his shoes back on, just inside the restaurant, he eyed the street outside. "It feels later than it is - so dark. I'll walk you home." Since a lot of things had been happening in the city it was best people keep together these nights, it was unsafe in this city. Two knights together wasn't a bad thing - it was safe and smart.

Dinner had been quite interesting. It wasn’t every day that one dined in at a traditional Korean restaurant with a teacher who was several years younger than you but also a compatriot of a secret war that was plaguing their fair city. The food had been quite good, better than anything she could make…. Fast food would have been better than what she could make in all fairness. The company had been amusing and entertaining, and ordering in another language had been challenging. Overall it was something she wanted to do again sooner rather than later, work providing. Sadly work had picked up and without the extra help that she normally had, it had fallen all on her shoulders. It cut into what little social life she had but it also greatly hindered patrolling or even training. It was quite frustrating to be honest because there was still quite a debt owed to the negaverse for the damage done to her store… a few dusted youmas barely put a dent in the bill she was determined to make chaos pay up in full.

Jessie hopped on one foot as she struggled to get her shoe tied, it was one thing to go barefoot at home but it was still rather odd for her to do so at a restaurant, but soon joined Seung at the door. “I feel like it should be the other way around, after all you're the one who paid for dinner.” Against her objections of course which just meant that she would have to figure out another way to balance out dinner. Perhaps there were more books that Seung was looking for that she could dig up for him, it's how she tended to even out the Korean lessens when the English ones didn’t quite add up in her head.

“Sadly Daylight Savings won't kick in until November 5th. It always throws me off to look outside this early and it be so dark.” She sighed and slipped on her jacket and stepped outside. The fall nights had finally started to cool and were now downright nippy. “Did you know that while Germany and Austria were the first countries to use DST in 1916, a few hundred Canadians did it firsts 8 years before them. In 1908, the residents in a town in Ontario did it first, quickly followed by several other cities.” She paused in her fact giving moment to warm her hands with her breath before quickly zipping up her coat and continuing. “However, the idea did not catch on globally until Germany introduced it in 1916. Clocks in Germany and Austria were turned ahead by 1 hour 2 years into World War I to minimize the use of artificial lighting to save fuel for the war effort. Most countries that followed suite discontinued it's use after the war only to pick it up again with the second World War.”

"Didn't understand daylight savings when first moved here...we don't have it in Korea." Seung spoke as he finished tieing his own shoes, he was used to taking his shoes off for some places and having to get them back on. It wasn't like every restaurant had such requirements back home but a fair few still did adhere to such strictness.

Following at her side he shook his head as she gave him some bit of information, something she really was good at providing. She seemed to know bits and pieces of information about all manner of things. "Didn't know that. No daylight savings in Korea...not since....1980 something I think." He couldn't exactly remember when but it was something they didn't have and that he really hadn't grown up with. Coming here, and having that be a thing, it had been a bit odd to him but thankfully most clocks updated themselves so they hadn't really been off entirely - just the clock on the stove.

"Makes sense why to have it. Maybe that is why was never kept in Korea- not important enough or needed." It hadn't caught on? He really hadn't a clue, though he had a feeling Jessie might now look into it and find out about daylight savings time in Korea and why they'd had it and why they'd just let it drop. It was something he could see from her considering her personality and her need to know things- to learn. He liked that about her though, it made teaching her easy, she took to reading and learning well.

Stepping out from under the shops fabric awning Seung made his way down the street, holding a hand out towards Jessie in open invitation - they were friends after all.

“Really?” Jessie was quite shocked that DST wasn’t standard in Korea. That was most definitely something she would have to research. Honestly she hadn’t known about the odd little facts regarding the time shift until a few months ago when she wanted to use it as a base for the random fact typed game that she played at her shop. She had been expecting it to be simple like when did it start but after finding out about the various dates and all the odd little notes that came along with actually implemented Daylight Savings time Jessie decided to go with a much simpler question: What was the full name of C. S. Lewis… Clive Staples Lewis. And now there was another little thing to find out about! Why did Korea, or at least South Korea, not have or use it? Jessie practically itched to get home to her books and research the answer. It was bound to be interesting!

“I might be wrong about this but the general thought process as to why it has really taken on in our modern society is rather simple.” Jessie easily kept pace with Seung and even took his offered hand. She was completely oblivious how strange it would seem here in the ‘western world’ for a grown female to walk down the street with a grown male. Most would see it as a sexual thing, as if they were dating, however for her it was as simple as he offered and her hand was cold. She completely missed any looks they received from passersby as she continued her lecture on the subject of Daylight Savings. She had easily transitioned into water clocks and other types of ancient time keepers, she had picked the information up when she stumbled upon it during the earlier research, only to drift off when she heard a rather familiar squeak coming from the darkness above them.

Mentally hoping she wasn’t going to see what she feared to see the brown haired bookworm glanced up and promptly cursed, “******** it!” It was one of those giant bats that had swarmed the fall faire last year! They were a real pain in the a** and Jessie feared that this one would be just as bad as the army from the previous year. “Seung… You need to back away slowly and get out of here while I keep this bugger’s attention.” She was the older one of the duo, she would handle the flying rat that even now looked like it was preparing to attack. Sadly she didn’t have a purse like she did last year. She would have to take care of the giant b*****d by hand.

"Yeah, I mean I think we used to." Shrugging his shoulders a bit. It was never something he'd given any thought to, time was simply what the clock said. There was no turning a clock back or forward or anything like that, the time was honest to what the clock said. Plus they had only one time zone so you never had to worry about someone being in another time zone either. It was simple.

For him he was walking a friend home, though he knew back home it would look as if they were dating, at home for two males to walk hand in hand it wasn't an issue or two females. This however...back home he knew people would get the wrong idea. Here though he knew things were, generally speaking, different so didn't much worry about it. He wanted to make sure she got home safe - she was a good friend.

Bus listening to her talk, she did really have a load of information in that head of hers, he was surprised to hear a squeak like sound. it was high pitched and not a sound he was familiar with. "Jessie?" Glancing to her and than up he felt the panic hit him for a moment. That bat...was huge. It was like last fall.

"I'm not leaving you to handle it." Though he did let her hand go. "We can lead it off...handle it." They could get it somewhere safe so they could power up and deal with it. He still tended to believe his younger cousin in that it wasn't a normal bat, she had been so sure of it and had looked into things even. "Not a normal bat - can't be." There was no way bats that big were native to this area, nor were bats generally vicious like this one looked to be.

"Lets run." Already reaching for her hand again in order to pull her along with him.

With a slight shake of her head, her eyes never leaving the bat as it swooped around, and pulling her hand away from Seung’s insistent tugging. “We can’t run. If it’s like the bats from last year we can’t run.” At best case they would be followed and attacked, at worst it would fly away and attack someone else. Neither were good. “You're right though… If we can lead it off we can handle it.” s**t! The bat apparently didn’t like its odds against them both and seemed to start to veer off. She couldn’t let it get away.

“Seung search for a place we can lead it!” Jessie barked out the order even as she bent down to scoop up an abandoned water bottle and tossed it at the bat. The crushed plastic soared through the night air and missed the bat. The second and third projectile did the same but the bibliophile wasn’t trying to hit it… well she was but knew her odds weren’t good… but it did piss the little flying rat off. Rather then flying off to search for easier targets it swooped down at her screeching in anger. “Don’t let it bite you!” Jessie did her best to fend the creature off with her jacket clad arm while keeping clear of those sharp fangs. Last year had been bad after she had gotten bitten, she didn’t want a repeat of the situation.

There was, as she said, no way they could just run away. This was, likely, one of the bats from last year. That in mind they really couldn't let it remain flying about, where it could attack anyone else, but to power up here was also impossible as was fighting it out here in the open where someone else may happen upon this fight and wind up a victim of the damn thing.

As she shouted for him to find a place to lead it he nodded, watching as Jessie scooped up a bottle to throw at it. "Let's go! This way." He knew the way he was pointing would lead to a side street which would, at this time of night, have very few people on it and would be as safe as they could get. There were no real big areas they could bring it. It would, once they got there, be as safe as they could get for powering up as well.

"I know, you too!" He called out to the female as he led the way towards a side street where he knew the small, old fashioned, cafes there would be closing or closed and thus very few people in the area. It was further from the restaurants and thus safer for this encounter. "We will be safe soon." And more importantly so would any innocent civilians who might happen upon this mess.

Don't think the dead bats disappear like youma but not sure >.<'

Jessie let Seung lead her, she was rather preoccupied keeping the bat’s attention, and didn’t really care that the younger man had guided her into a side street that was nearly devoid of people. What few civilians remained quickly dispersed when they saw the duo being attacked by the giant flying rat, one even said that they were calling animal control so they just had to hold out until someone more qualified showed up. Ha! As if a simple civil servant would be able to handle a rabid creature such as this. Jessie and Seung were the best to deal with it but the few people who were watching from inside the shelter of the storefronts ment they, the two knights, had to do this without the aid of their alter egos.

“Seung can you-” Her request for some type of weapon was cut off as she hissed in pain. The bat had wickedly sharp claws that was rapidly shreading her coat, the protection nearly useless if the bat’s claws scraping her arm was any indication. “How did these things die last year?!?” Jessie growled in pain and annoyance. At least her wounds weren’t bite marks.

"Can't remember." He called out, while already moving to find something which could be used as a weapon. It was a a trash can lid which he grabbed and went to attack the bat with, swinging it towards the large flying creature. Animal control, while they would prove another way to keep the bat here and distracted, they would not be able to handle it and he knew that.

He had hoped less people would be here, that any in the area would flee, so they could power up. However, it looked like that wasn't going to be the case and they were going to be stuck handling this as civilians. "Let me take it's attention...go find another weapon." He said while swinging towards the bat once more. If they both had some form of weapon the chances of beating the damn thing to death, hopefully, would be higher. He wanted to get this handled before animal control got here, even if they could prove somewhat helpful, he didn't want a risk of one of them being bitten.

This wasn't something they should be handling...this was a powered thing, even if he and Jessie were as civilians, this was out of animal control officers job description he figured.

As Seung held the bat at bay with a trashcan lid, expertly smacking the creature into the ground, Jessie disengaged and tossed what remained of her coat away. He was right, she needed to get an honest to god weapon because even with the bitchslap it just got from the lid the bugger was still alive and kicking. With luck it wouldn’t be for long but until then Seung would need help. With a muttered apology she commandeered an abandoned cane that had been left at a outdoor cafe table when its remaining late night patrons took shelter in the cafe at the appearance of the bat, apparently Seung and Jessie weren’t the only ones to remember the bats from last year.

Pissed and angry Jess took her frustration out on the demonic creature. A few whacks with the cane and lid were apparently all it really took because before long the bat was on the ground and it stoped trying to get back up again. “Is it… is it dead?” She huffed out as she took a few steps backwards and leaned on her weapon, it was a bit battered but the wooden cane held up surprisingly well. If the damn thing wasn’t dead at least it wasn’t attacking anymore and just in time too if the rapidly approaching flashing yellow lights were any indication. Honestly, Jessie was a bit surprised that cops weren’t dispatched as well since the creature was, or had been, attacking.

While Jessie had moved to get some form of weapon, a wooden cane, Seung had continued to beat on the bat with the garbage can lid. he was hoping, and trying, not to get bitten. He really did not need to suffer from the affects of a bite from one of them again, he'd dealt with that last year - thank you very much. He didn't need to worry, and upset, his husband or his elder cousin. His younger cousin would spend more time worrying and fretting over him than being upset, thankfully.

It seemed most of the people who had been outside had moved to being inside, there was one straggler it seemed who was intent upon capturing everything on their phone. Most, he assumed, were smart and remembered last year. The one recording he figured was planning to post it online...maybe even put out a warning about the return of the bats? He could sort of hope for that at least, rather than just a video of the attack.

The problem was that they couldn't power up so he and Jessie had to beat on the bat till it stopped moving. When it did he took a step back, not wanting to get close enough to check on the status of the bat, he didn't want to risk being bitten by surprise. It seemed help was arriving anyway. "Let them handle...isn't moving - might be dead." he sort of hoped so, even if he felt bad for potentially killing an animal...this animal was vicious and it's bite was not at all pleasant.

"We should go...." He didn't really want to stick around and answer questions. He sort of actually wanted to get Jessie home and than get himself home and let his family know about this.

Jessie’s eyes flicked over towards the people and she nearly started when she saw the rather unmistakable figure of someone filming them on their phone. More likely than not the whole fight had been caught on that guy’s phone. ********. She was really, really, glad that they didn’t power up. There would have been no explaining any of that away. “Yeah,” the brunette quietly agreed. It was time they got the hell out of there before Animal Control pulled up and they got roped into the investigation. Scooping up the remains of her jacket and leaving the cane behind Jessie beat a hasty retreat, making sure Seung was following her example.

“That video is going to be online before we get home,” She said once they were several blocks away and it looked like they were in the clear. “If we are lucky it will be jerky and out of focus, if we aren't…” She trailed off with a shrug. If their faces were seen and anyone figured out who they were, well getting questioned by the cops might just be the best scenario to look forward to in that situation. Thank god glamors protected them while knights even if it wasn’t useful in this situation. As the adrenalin drained out of her Jessie finally felt the chill of the night. She was dressed for fall but with her coat in a trashcan a few blocks back there wasn’t much to help with the bite of the cold that nipped at their heels. “What do you saw we splurge and get a cab? We would also avoid any further ‘incidents’. Knock on wood.” Jess wasn’t superstitious really but she wasn’t willing to take a chance that some other nuisance wouldn’t happen. Right then she just wanted to go home, take a hot shower, tend her wounds, and sleep for as long as possible. The sooner, the better and a cab would definitely make it happen sooner.

Following behind Jessie, for a block or two, he moved to fall inline at her side as they continued to walk. "Of course...will have to explain to people - before they see." It would be best if they told their family and friends, rather than the video getting to them first somehow. He had little doubt it would make the news as well. He'd rather keep Terry and the rest of his family from finding out that way, or seeing it somewhere online, as opposed to him telling them all first.

Glad they were free to talk, that no one had followed them. "Even if they see it...can't figure us out. Looks like just two people attacked by giant bat and defending selves....we should be ok." No one would figure out they were knights, which was good, it was one of the things magic was useful for and he was grateful for that. He couldn't even imagine what would happen if they didn't have that bit of magic, what would keep their other self hidden from people. "Yes...cab would be nice. No chance of another bat...and less cold." And Jessie looked cold, even he was a bit cold. "It'll get us both home faster too...I want to beat the news and online videos." He really did....

"Lets get a cab." And he went to hail a cab, stepping to the edge of the sidewalk and holding out a hand as soon as he saw one approaching.
