Prompt
Giant spiders were reported at the Destiny City Botanical Garden, but upon police arrival none of the spiders could be found. This either means that everyone there had a mass hallucination, or worse…There are Giant Spiders still out there, lurking in Destiny City. You might have been at the Gardens, you might not have—but you’re about to get up close and personal with a giant spider while you are out one night. At first, nothing seems amiss; the spiders have no energy signatures and can creep silently, but they appear out of nowhere. They are easily the size of a small car and can appear alone or in groups. Their legs are strong and sharp, and they have long fans the size of steak knives. Toxic foam dribbles from their mouths, so if you’re fighting them—be careful. The spiders can be defeated or will run away if they are too damaged, but another spider will always arrive to claim the carcass of the fallen. You can run, fight, call for help—anything—just be careful. Those spider bites are a pain…

Laodica knew that it wasn't exactly safe to keep sneaking out at night to visit her spider friend, but she couldn't bring herself to stop. She wasn't exactly popular at school - she knew what she was like, but she also knew 'airhead' was not something nice. Add in how little she received contact from her family and how most people seemed to think her attempts to help were... something other than wanting to help, which she didn't get, her spider friend was simply the best (and often only) real option for company she had.

So here she was again, walking up to his place in the dark. She paused outside the door, about to knock, when she saw the spider.

It wasn't like her friend at all, being an actual spider and not a spider person, and it looked.... well, hungry.

"Uhm. Hello," she said, frowning and taking a step back. "Are.... are you the one who was making all the webs? That wasn't very nice. Mister Spider needs his storefront to stay clean!"

.... It didn't answer her, and looked kind of.... hungry. Oh no. "Uhm - uhm I'm sure if you just apologize it'll - it'll be okay...?"

Maybe coming over tonight hadn't been a good idea after all...

Another night cleaning the storefront. The sage wasn't a very good defense to his frustration, but it had been a good try. Still, walking out tonight he was surprised to see Laodica at his door... Looking up.

"Laodica? Are you alrig-" Coffinite began asking, and turned, looking up.

Oh. Oh. Well THAT was a rather large spider. And it...

Was looking...

Damnit.

The half youma released a hiss then, all six arms cracking knuckles and preparing for a fight as the spider dove, Coffinite hissing.

"Do leave, darling. This is MY web."

With a squeak of fright, Laodica skipped backwards and away from the giant spider that seemed like it was more interested in a meal than an apology. "Uhm - I - I guess you don't know this spider? I told them they should apologize but I don't think they want to."

No, actually, she was certain the spider didn't want to, with the way it didn't seem at all bothered by coffinite's threat. The way it kept looking around, kind of... hungrily... "...No! No, bad spider, I'm not for eating!"

This was... this wasn't good, was it?

"No idea what these are." Coffinite hissed. The spider man launched, and reached to catch legs, twistinbg and ripping one with an inelegance uncommon to him.

The spider had tried to threaten his senshi, and Coffinite was having none of it, lips curling into a snarl furiouysly.

"Be cautious, dear--" Coffinite called in warning. "There's something not right here!"

"I know! I know what it is. It's - uhm... hungry?" Laodica offered, taking a deep breath. If it was like that doll, then - then maybe her magic could help out here. But that would mean getting in close, and those fangs were so big... But she couldn't let Mister Spider get hurt, either.

Taking a breath, she stepped forward, beginning to ready her attack - only to come nose to nose with the spider as it wiggled away from the pain of having its leg twisted off. It wasted no time and crunched down on her arm in a vicious bite, drawing a distressed, agonized wail from Laodica. All thoughts of trying to help fight fled from the corrupt as she shrieked and fell to the ground, tugging her arm to her chest and started sobbing.

It hurt. It hurt, and burned, and she wanted to find somewhere soft to curl up in until the bad dream went away...

A scream.

Coffinite had begun moving to follow the struggling beast when Laodica drew close, and the half-youma felt his heart begin pounding... But that scream drew something from deeper inside him that seemed to fuel the half-youma as a memory flodded his mind.

She'd been outside with he and his little sister. Nathan had been playing with his little sister happily, leading her to a tea party he'd set up across the street at their friend's house that day, when everything seemed to grow dark, and cold in his life. When he gave up on god, and turned to the pagan gods. Nathan took his sister's hand, grinning.

"Come on, Amarosa! I asked Bethany to set up tea for us in her lawn today." The boy crooned. His sister cheered, and tugged to cross the street.

It wasn't a very safe one. The neighborhood was set in less popular, less safe area of Tacoma. Hilltop was partly policved by her own citizens, and partly the police, but it was still dangerous, and every so often a car would go through the road to go home, to park on the street. Normally, the time of day neglected that, but the day of tea...

That day, Nathan led his little sister to cross the street, and a car suddenly came barrelling. What came next was burnt into his memory. His little sister saw the car, freezing and screaming a shrill, loud scream of terror as the car came hurtling at her, and Nathan turned, panicking as he poushed his liuttle sister out of the road.

At the last second, another scream reached his ears, grown hands pushing the young teen boy out of the street before there was a sickening sound of metal hidding a body, a large machine trying to brake at the sound of thunking, and when Nathan turned, his pallor became bone white at the twisted, broken, and unmoving form of his mother on the road in a pool of red. He was old enough to see what it was, and screamed, shielding his sister from seeing the sight, sirens wailing around him as neighbors rushed out. Someone drew him from the scene; someone was calling his father, the police, the driver was talking and all of it was beginning to blur as the image etched in his mind. All he knew what he killed his mother.

Laodica was bleeding. That he knew and he didn't know how bad it was, or if she was going to die, but if he could stop it, he was, by all of the gods now, and the half youma yelled furiously. The spider was the size of the car that killed his mother, but this wasn't taking Laodica. She was too young, too innocent, and he bellowed in rager as he lunged. The spider lashed at him violently, slicing his arms, his chest, but he was fuelled by a sense of determination to send the spider straight to the Rift - or worse. Coiffinite braced, moving rapidly around as he sized up joints, and began lancing them with the removed limb -- rapid jasbs, aimed to hurt, before the real revenge -- he shoved a leg into a hole, and began to press down, using his leverage and weight to force it to shift-- and puncture the vital gooey bits within before moving to Laodica, picking her up.

"Sssshhh, sssshhhh...." Coffinite soothed, and reached, ripping a sleeve off to begin wrapping her arm.

"I'm here... It's gone now baby girl...I'm here..."

And he wasn't leaving, either.

Laodica didn't really witness much of the fight. She was more focused on how much her arm urt, and how funny the world seemed around the edges. It seemed like all it took was the time between blinks for Mister Spider to go from being somewhere nearby and shouting to being right there, trying to wrap her arm up.

She blinked again and leaned into hold, aware that she was crying and unwilling to even begin to try and calm down. "It hurts." Even held protectively, she wobbled, starting to feel ill and like the world was spinning. "I don't... I don't feel well..." She swallowed, and didn't entirely realize she was powering down until she had, and was just Rhian again.

"...can... can I stay a while tonight?" She asked, feeling somewhat distant from herself and her own pain. "I don't... want to explain this at school." And if her parents had to be called over this, they'd... they'd be mad, probably. She was a good girl, she wasn't going to be a bad person and bother them...

"...Please, Mister Spider?"

Duid he have the materials to patch her up and handle the poison? Possibly, but if he had to call 911, he would. As she powered down, Coffinite lifted her up in a bridal carry. No, no her school wasn't equipped fvgor this, and the man moved for his apartment, crooning.

"It may be for the best you do, little spiderfly," He said, voice gently, almost fatherly. "I'll look after you, alright?"

"Okay," Rhian mumbled, good hand coming up to rub near - not on - the bite wound, soft whimpers escaping her. "...I'll try not to be any trouble." She didn't know that she could promise not to be, not when she hurt so much and felt kind of sick and dizzy. But she wanted to try, for her friend's sake.

Just as soon as she slept for a little while...
