Halloween was fast approaching and even the weather was finally deciding to get with the program as the damp chilly wind whipped through the streets teasing the rapidly changing leaves off the trees. The weather and the calendar weren't the only markers of the changing season, the ‘spooky’ decorations were a clear indication of the upcoming candy filled night. Even well into the night fake lights flickered in pumpkins, orange fairy lights twinkled on porches, and all manner of decorations proclaimed houses as festive participants, some more then others.
Ellicott silently rose a brow at one particularly garish display. Apparently this particular family came up with a dozen or so puns and placed them on fake tombstones scattered throughout their front yard, accented with cotton spider webs, plastic zombie hands poking out of the grass, and even a ‘rusty’ fence to surround their little graveyard. “‘Beneath this stone my wife doth lie/Now she’s at rest and so am I’. I don’t know about you Sherlock but that is rather depressing.” The young senshi glanced down at her companion, a large alaskan malamute-german shepard mix, and gave him a quick pat on the head evan as she snuggled a bit deeper into her jacket. Learning the little trick of powering up then putting on a jacket and shoes had been a true godsend.
The dog was her excuse for heading out this late at night, ‘he needed a walk’ was always a good reason if she ever got caught sneaking out. He was also helpful while patrolling because he helped keep an eye on the mundane world while she did her best to focus on the more magical side of this city. Although in all fairness right then the duo were both quite enjoying the variety and sometimes gory displays of this particular suburban neighborhood.
“‘William Gunder/Made one little blunder/Now he’s six feet under’. I wonder what his blunder was.”
