MISSION 4N - 1M3, LOS ANGELES Retrieval Mission 4N-1M3
Location: Los Angeles, CA

General debriefing: A very valuable artifact has somehow made its way into the wild. The good news is that it blends right into the paraphernalia of its new resting place. The bad news?
That resting place is currently in an anime convention's Dealer's Alley. Yikes.
Sun Division needs you to go fetch it, as it is one of theirs. And since you're going for the undercover look... they insist on one thing.
YOU MUST GO IN COSPLAY.
* C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, and at least one of them must be an Intermediate Trainee.) MECHANICS * MECHANICS: RP assembling a team (and their cosplays), as necessary, before heading towards the main portal to request a portal to Retrieval Mission 4N-1M3. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll a BOSS ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics. 1- 20: You can't make it to the Dealer's Alley at all. In fact, you get mistaken for a participant in a cosplay contest, and have to convince the very determined volunteer that you are not. It takes some work. 21 - 30: You get lost on your way and instead make your way to the Artist's Alley instead on accident. You are awash in a sea of tables and fanartists, and somehow get roped into helping a stranger pick out which artist to get a commission from. They trust your artistic judgment, based on your outfit. 31 - 40: You give up for a time, and seek out overpriced snacks. If the number you roll is odd, they're in stock with what you want for twice the reasonable price. If the number you roll is even, they're out. If you're hungry, you must brave the outside world-- and the inevitable crowd that you have to fight to get back inside. Fun. 41 - 60: An adorable child approaches you and declares, in some fashion, that they are lost. You try to find their parent or guardian. ...Try. 61 - 80: Someone is following you. Someone is following you, and you cannot shake them. Someone is approaching you and-- they just wanted a picture with you. Huh, go figure. 81- 100: RETRIEVAL MECHANICS: - You've found the artifact! But, unfortunately, you need to negotiate with the dealer to acquire it. There's something about their appearance that shimmers for just a second, and you can tell they're not quite human. "Let's make a deal, human," it says, and its voice rings like three in one. Somehow, no one can hear you. Somehow, no one is nearby. The world is devoid of colour. The convention hall is silent, decrepit. Is this a dream? "Defeat me, and it's yours." - BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a vague ghost dressed as an anime character of your choosing, semi-translucent and floating. Miserable. It has 100 HP. Every time you attack the boss (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back. After Boss defeat:Upon its defeat, the convention hall snaps back into view. All the damage you've done is erased, and the dealer looks at you with wariness. "Fine," it says. "Take the dumb thing. I didn't want it anyway." It huffs, turning up its nose at you. "But rest assured, the boogeymen will hear about this." (They do not.) You take the artifact and go, ready to return it to Sun Division. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back. * 2 mission reward points for completing this successfully

This was something that ought to be right up Terry's alley, wasn't it? Well, yes, and no. On the one hand, it involved attending a convention because your job demanded it of you. And it also gave the intermediate Life trainee a valid reason (and budget) to cosplay, something he'd always wanted to do but never had the means or time to dedicate. This particular mission was just too good an opportunity to pass up, which was why for once in his life Terry took initiative in something.
The downside to it was that he couldn't just do the mission with Kim. They needed more people. And Terry did not know very many people. At least not many who would be as enthusiastic about the details. In the end, Terry decided to half-invite half-beg Seren to join him and Kim. Maybe even going so far as to get his girlfriend to send a second invitation to the other Sun.
No this was not emotional manipulation, he was simply banking on Seren to pick up that they really needed her to join them. Kim seconding the invitation was just putting emphasis, right? Right.

Kim had just finished her insanely boring mission guarding the lighthouse. She saw the message from her boyfriend and smiled brightly. hunipi . You know I am more than willing to head off on a mission with you love, just did you say cosplay? Ironic since Allan has suggested me do something similar. Likely he planned this mission. I'm in and will ask Seren She was more than a bit amused. This mission would help her friend understand about what their other duty entailed. aria starstone mission request from Terry. I think it will help with our other duty and at least give tips. Please join. Ask Rhys, Terry is suggesting it may be easier with 4 of us. He will give details. Just like that they were going on a mission. As long as Seren could come. It should be fun. She smiled and went to locate her boyfriend who really could have been anywhere. On second thought she went to her room instead.

Seren was chilling in her room when she got the text from Terry. She blinked a little, and popped her phone out of her pocket. She studied the message, her eyebrows raised curiously at the not exactly question he asked. She considered it, and was about to hit reply, when the message from Kim came in as well. She read THAT one and blinked a lot, bemused by the fact that both of them had felt the need to implore on her for help. Finally, she went back to Terry's message, to reply to him first. Huni Pi Text To TerryNo worries. I'm in. I'll ask Rhys to join us. I'm pretty positive he'll want to join in. Disguises though? Weird. I haven't had a mission that needs disguises. What kind. Already confirmed a yes to him. I planned to ask Rhys, I'm p sure he'll want to be there. Rhys's phone pinged just as he got back from the showers, having just finished his second stupidly long run for the day. There was something about...recently...that was keeping his energy on high and he needed to do more to get rid of all of it. Running, his running anyway, helped him expend a lot of that that energy so he decided to sneak some runs in between shifts. While toweling off his hair he went and got his phone, smiling when he saw who'd sent him a message. Mission or not, it was honestly a no-brainer so he typed up a reply.

With that he hurried up and got dressed light because disguises could mean more layers, which would suck if they were gonna end up some place hot. Then he pulled out his phone again, because he remembered he had Kim's number, and shot her a text as well.

And then he sat around for a while, reading to pass the time because he assumed there was time to kill. If someone happened to text sooner, that would be better for him because he was actually getting near the end of the last book he got from the library, which meant he had to go back to to pick up the next few...which wasn't a bad thing because it was a chance to hang out with Seren again, but it was the library. Even if he'd started reading it still didn't feel like he belonged there.

Terry allowed his brow to quirk at Kim's response about Allan suggesting for his girlfriend to cosplay. He wasn't a jealous person, still wasn't, so his desire to see Kim before (or after) that other mission was more curiosity about the actual clothing and the technical aspects involved in the costume and characterization rather than worry about other people seeing the Sun in a skimpy outfit.
Steal Text to KoibitoExcellent, we'll need at least a day to prepare the costumes. How do you feel about crossplay?
Speaking of Seren, Terry wasn't surprised to learn she did invite a fourth. He just wasn't sure if Rhys was a guy or a girl with a guy's name. Hmm, that certainly limited their options unless this Rhys was androgynous. Or Terry was going to see how well he himself could pull off a crossplay. That might require more prep time, and as much as it pained Terry, they might have to go with cheap costumes. This would be fine, they could make up for it with characterization.

Kim looked at the message from Terry and rolled her eyes, he could have asked her in person. She had no issues but didn't bother sending a reply. It was a waste of time. She was heading to their room anyway. They would need to come up with something descent though, but she had no idea where they were heading, and wouldn't until Terry spilled the details. She bounded into their room and looked around, sitting on the bed to await Terry getting back so they could talk this over. She realized sending messages was going to be a silly thing but figured it was best to do so anyway. Seren studied the various texts coming in on her phone. She stared at it for a long, long moment, then finally went "BUGGER THIS MASS OF TEXTS, I would like to condense this down!" She took a deep breath, and considered for a long moment, then nodded. She decided to text Rhys first and WARN him of what she was going to do, then she would move from there. He deserved to be warned before she set up a group text that included him AND some one he did not know. She was not sure if she remembered either Kim or Rhys saying they knew each other, but Kim had texted them both, so they obviously did. _ p a o cx Text To RhysHey, I'm going to make a group text for all four of us, because I'm getting tired of texts from five directions, when we are all discussing the same damn issue. Just wanted to give you a heads up, gorgeous. She sighed again, then set up the Group Text, so they could all talk to each other, and not have to worry about who was going to tell whom what. The texts that came had him pausing from his reading enough that he just put his book away, flipping through his new messages briefly before going to slip into his shoes. The gorgeous bit had him smiling the whole time, and when he finally pulled his phone back out to reply he decided to reply to Seren first.

Once the messages were sent he headed out, locking his door behind him before going toward the stairs. If Seren didn't respond before he got to her room he could always detour to the common room; at least there was Jenga there.

At this point, Terry had collated all the information they would need and sent the group a meeting point. He'd reserved a room in the Life labs, although it was really more of a slightly larger closet. Too awkward in size to be a proper room but not too small that four people couldn't fit in relative comfort.
They would find a dry erase board set up with the what, the why, the where, and the wear. Yes, that was not a typo it really read wear.
"Thank you for coming even if the mission won't be until tomorrow," he began, the sound of the erasable marker squeaking as he filled in the details, explaining to everyone what was expected of them. "Which brings us to our cosplay. And if anyone has issues with the term, call it a disguise, but we don't have much time which is why we can't go as anyone extravagant or fancy or require intense character study to get the nuance of their personality."

Kim had found herself a comfortable perch on a table and was sitting there with her legs crossed looking at the board. She loved how Terry was so into this, worried about how they acted, if they had characters. She tried hard not to smile but was failing. With a glance she looked over at the other two, seeing if anything had changed, she had met Rhys a few times now, and of course knew Seren who was a good friend of hers. She knew Seren had a crush on someone and was pretty darned sure it was the very guy sitting there in the room. She was discrete at least and was able to keep her mouth shut and concentrate on Terry and his writing on the board. "So you think we should all go as a group cosplay, like some kind of team. I think it will work as long as it isn't a team like.. the power rangers or something. Seren had found a comfortable chair to sit in, making sure she was next to Rhys. Her eyes were focused on Terry, but her body language was pretty clear... She was leaning slightly towards Rhys, hand near his side. She also clearly had no idea she was doing that, though. She tilted her head at Terry's words, a slight wince at the squeaking. "Cosplay is something I haven't exactly done before, and I have no idea of the characters we might be dressing as. I definitely suggest things that you don't need a... LOT... of knowledge about. Something you two can brief us on in a short amount of time. Maybe something not OVERLY popular so we don't get too much attention? Or if it's from something popular, a less popular character set." She glanced at Rhys, now, with a 'You have anything to add to this, or any clue?' kind of look. She had a feeling the two of them were in the same, extremely confused, boat to be honest. She glanced over Kim when she spoke, though, her brows together. "Aren't the power rangers those guys with the weird all over body suits? That sounds hot. And awkward if we have to do anything that might be fighting."

Once the text came about meeting details Rhys redirected his course and soon found himself in a glorified closet, perched on a chair rather contentedly beside Seren. Much like her, he was subconsciously leaning slightly in her direction as he blinked and listened to Terry go on about a topic he had absolutely no clue about. But everyone had their thing--this was obviously Terry's--and if they had to go in disguises then he'd rather it be with someone who knew a thing or two about a good costume.
He looked over at Seren when he felt her eyes on him, blinking at the expression before nodding. "No Power Rangers," he piled on, turning to Kim first, then Terry. "Or Ninja Turtles. Or anything like a full-body suit like those, 'cause yeah. Hot." He had no idea why character development mattered, but maybe it was another enthusiast kinda thing.
"But a group type thing would be pretty cool. A perfect set would maybe be somethin' that wouldn't make us stick out but is easy for us to pick each other from a crowd in case we get separated."Steal Yeahhh, I think everyone hates it tbh. I'd change my username but I like it too much. XD; I always just suggest copy+pasting. Hehe~

Terry nodded, taking everyone's words into account, "Naturally I've considered possibilities for a group of four." He began to write down his choices, "A little something from anime, some from western media, and of course videogames."
The three would find a strange assortment of titles, Totally Spies falling under Western Media, with caveats of Requires Crossplay and Full body suits. Legend of the Galactic Heroes for anime, with caveats of You probably haven't heard of them and Military regalia. "Which leaves us with Videogames. Team Skull from Pokemon would be ideal." He'd already begun sketching the costumes, kerchiefs, skull caps, black sleeveless shirts and tank tops. "We can make do with masking tape to mimic the patterns," he explained, capping off the pen in order to point out the details.
It was clear he had prepared for this. He stepped close to Kim, waiting for the others to voice their thoughts.

Kim thought about it then nodded. "Team Skull works for me, seeing as it is easy enough to slouch around and pretend we thing we are from a tough gang." She chuckled at the thought, most of her clothing already seemed set for this whole scenario. She took Terry's hand gently, not making a big thing of it. "I think they are all good choices though, but Skull would take the least work, unless we went really old and Team rocket or something, which would be rather dull actually."
