Giulia had never regretted sweets before, but as of sometime yesterday evening, after she had left Elex at the candy store, she most certainly did. Her mouth had been hurting ever since, to the point that they had gone to an emergency dentist late last night. Even though the dentist had told them that there was nothing wrong with her teeth, no one was able to deny that she was in an extreme amount of pain. Something had happened, and the results of it were making her whimper and cry. The little blonde had been taking the prescribed pain medication that she had been offered by the dentist as often as she was allowed. No cracks in her little teeth, though, so she would just have to be careful and eat soft foods until it went away. There was nothing else that they could really manage to do about it. She had one bright spot in all of this: apparently, she had stolen the love of Jada's cat, at least for right now. Castor had spent the entire evening and night curled up with her no matter where she had chosen to try and relax, his purring a soothing rumble against her chest, or on her shoulder, or next to her leg. Even Aidan had refused to leave her side, and had tugged out the small trundle bed that was tucked in for anyone who was an overnight guest, distressed by the fact that his twin was in pain and there was nothing that anyone could really do to help.
Once they were home and it was finally bedtime, Jada kept trying to shoo both cat and sibling away to let Giulia sleep. Neither would leave. Amelie was the one to try next, and Castor decided to bite her. After Giulia's brother had decided to try the same tactic on the nanny, she had decided that making sure one of them slept wasn't worth the bother. Clicking teeth had warned Jada away from trying a similar tactic. Not wanting to reward them for bad behavior, she had nonetheless caved, and tucked the kids in bed with her, Giulia laying safe and warm in the space between her siblings. Over the night, Giulia couldn't sleep well, even with the love and support of her family for her sad little self. When she woke, she could reach out and try and ask for some pain medication. Jada and Amelie kept careful notes on their phones of who had given her the last little half-pill for the pain; no matter how she begged and wept for them to give her something a little sooner, the answer was firmly no. She had woken up every couple of hours through the night, drinking warm green tea to try and help soothe the ache. And every couple hours like clockwork she was up, the whole family waking with her because of her soft sniffles. She tried to keep it down- she really did! It just really hurt so terribly much, she didn't even have to try and exaggerate to get any pity, or anything!
Their alarm went off at the same time it always did, but they three of them were all already awake. Giulia was in the process of taking a small baby tylenol, and there were three sets of eyes that glared balefully at their cell phones, plugged in and laying on the chaise lounge in Jada's room. Giulia's exhaustion had been clear to everyone, so it had been an easy decision that she would be allowed to remain home from school today- along, of course, with the brother that still stubbornly refused to do any more than cling to his twin's hand and snore. While he was pretending to be awake! It really was the creepiest thing, to see her brother's eyes wide and sightless and hear loud snoring noises coming out of his mouth. As for the idea of putting on clothes, both twins had whined about the idea of getting out of their pajamas. Castor wouldn't stop clinging to Giulia's small, narrow shoulder and rubbing his head along her cheek, anyway, and no one wanted to try and dislodge the surprisingly bitey cat. Eventually, mama had just flung her hands in the air and left them tucked together in her big bed, brushing kisses over their forehead and getting dressed to go about her own day. Unfortunately, she wouldn't get to nap the day away alongside them. It seemed that she had grown-up work to do. Coffee would have to be her best friend today, she said, along with some real good concealer and a bag of ice or something to get rid of the puffy around her eyes. Giulia wasn't jealous of her at all- it seemed like modeling must be real hard work sometimes.
When the twins woke again, it was only about eight in the morning, and both of them were super hungry. Hand in hand, they had gone downstairs, still in their jammies. Cookie passed her half a baby tylenol before she even had to ask. On the counter was a print out of the list Amelie and Jada had been keeping on their phones, and Cookie wrote down the time before putting the paper on the fridge. This morning, breakfast for Giulia had been grits and bacon, not the sweet maple oatmeal that Aidan shoveled into his mouth across the table; both options were squishy and delicious, but the idea of eating something sweet had turned her stomach. What was she going to do with all that candy that she had bought at the candy store? She would have to decide what to do with it later, but it wasn't going to be feeding people she liked! What if that candy was why she had a hurty face? It still hurt, even now, but the pain was starting to fade with time and the affection of the people in her life. And, of course, the pain medicine. After eating, she wandered into the main family room, trying to think about how she was going to spend her day.
