Seren was down at the field, Diwata in hand, and working away at one of the dummies. Her blade was slashing through the air, and she had a look of serious concentration on her face. Her hair was tied back in a tight bun, her scarf being used like a kerchief to keep sweat and stray hairs out of her face, and she had on her usual workout gear. She was muttering a series of "Up... Down, side, curve swing... over hand!" and the like before each strike, clearly planning out what she was going to try to do next, and how best to do it. With each strike, Diwata glittered in the sunlight, eye catching and shiny.

Rhys was jogging up, usual training outfit on as he summoned Zephira and held her the rest of the way to finish warming up. He expected to beat up some dummies, but when he saw Seren doing just that he grinned and hurried over. Her weapon was a big-a** blade so he maneuvered wide to make sure he was clear of the thing before settling against one of the dummies.
"Yo! Finally caught you out here," he greeted, smiling. "If you're free, how 'bout a spar?" Because he recalled that asking was the nice thing to do, and he did want to be nice when it came to Seren.

He hopped back to clear the dummies before getting into a fighting stance, and he gave her time enough to do the same. It took him a second to stash away his personal feelings, because he knew they would likely get in the way of them having a fair fight, but it took another moment for that. And when he finally managed to get it mostly out of the way he gave her a nod.
"Here goes," he called, then dashed forward, aiming his blade at her shoulder.

She looked up, startled, at the Yo, and her face lit up in a welcoming, friendly smile. "Oh! Hey, yes! Working against a human is ALWAYS better then fighting a blasted dummy." She was calmly shoving away concerns and feelings that might make this battle harder, but her face only showed her pleasure in seeing him, and her eagerness to have a proper spar.
She followed him away from the dummies, and shifted into stance, then grunted as his blade made contact.
Her litany did not continue into the battle, to try to avoid giving her thoughts away, and she swung, but was off balance by the hit to her shoulder. Nonetheless, she went in an underhand blow, aiming for his legs, in the hopes of knocking him off balance, to give her a little more room to work.

The blow, however unbalanced, was still enough to cause him to stumble, which made him swear a bit because he didn't want to go and eat dirt in front of her. It was a spar and he figured not all that embarrassing at the end of the day, but still.
Once he got his balance back he shot her a grin, amused and impressed and actually rather excited. "Your weapon's ********' huge," he commented, dashing in again and aiming for her leg this time, too. "And heavy. Seriously impressed you can carry it, s**t."

She grinned back and said "You'd think you hadn't seen Diwata before... What, you forgetin' that run in the Shadow Run?" She shifted to the side, watching him as he stood back up, deciding the best angle to come at him on her next attack, then made an aggressive half moon swing, going in for his other side, her eyes bright with her eagerness to test herself. She knew he was more experienced then she was, but she still figured she would get a good test out of this, and a better idea of how to fight. She knew he was good, she'd seen him fight in Mexico, so this was a chance to see how she did against that skill.

"Seen," he said before she came and got a good hit in, sending him him skidding off to the side with a wince. He was really grateful for his fear shield after that, and suddenly felt a little bit bad for any of the things she'd taken hard, solid swings at before. And by now he had a feeling it'd been at least a handful of other hunters on top of the shadows from that Shadow Run.
"Never been hit by. Huge, huge difference."
He sidestepped and turned to swing at her back, slashing diagonally downward and hoping it'd shake her up enough to give him time to recover. In all honesty he was still reeling from her hit...

"Fair enough... She said, her eyes tracking his motions, trying to guess where he'd aim for next. She was used to getting hit around a bit, by now, because she'd been sparring as much as she could, with as many opponents as she could. Each one taught her something new, and each one seemed to hit in different ways.
And she was also glad for the fear shield, because she suspected that she'd normally be a walking motley of bruises, breaks, and cuts if she didn't have it, between the various spars.
Despite her attempt to track him, he managed to get a good strike in with that diagonal slash, causing her next attempt at a hit to go flying over him, while she softly swore. "Being big isn't everything, though!"

He chuckled at her words and nodded, easily dodging her swing and landing a gentle tap with the flat of his blade on her shoulder as he sidestepped back so he was in front of her again.
"It isn't, but if you can handle something that size I think you'd do fine in most fights, spars and real ones. And you can definitely ********' handle it, so if I were some kinda teacher for it I'd probably give you bonus points." And then he grinned again. "Those runs while carrying it around helping any?"

She made a slight face at the way her blade just wooshed through the air, her expression one of annoyance at herself. The little tap to her shoulder was met with a grimace, because it almost felt mocking, though she didn't really believe he WOULD mock her. It just was the timing that made it feel that way, and her own big wooshing miss.
His words, though, made her feel better. "Yes! And that's why I came to you, was to make carrying this thing less of a burden and more of something I can do with more ease... You've helped me a LOT with that, Rhys!" Her eagerness to express her gratitude led to her being distracted, and doing a complete miss again, which lead to her swearing softly at herself for getting distracted.

"Nice! Glad I could help," was his response as he easily dodged her swing again. With how wide open she was next, and Zephira crackling in the background and rather eagerness at the fight (it seemed like she'd been waiting for it to happen, really), he couldn't not use his charge. He thought quick and dashed forward again, closing in on her and sending a huge electrically charged FEAR attack through his blade as he swung down hard at her again.
The blowback was enough to get him staggering, so he wasn't looking at her to see the damage he'd done as he had to focus on himself for a second to get his bearings.

Seren had never been hit by anything like that in her life. Not even the attack from Al, when she had been so off balance, had been THAT hard. She found herself flying backwards and slamming into the shields, her eyes dazed and stunned. She sort of slid to the ground, and just lay there in the grassy dirt, staring up at the sky.
Holy ******** hell, that hurt, and she wasn't entirely sure she wanted to move for awhile. That was an experience she did not want to ever go through again. She didn't think he'd intended it to hurt that much, but with the way her body felt like it was crackling some from the power of his hit, she found herself thinking that it would have been nice if he'd hit like that against that damn creature in Mexico.
And she chose not to move for the moment, either.

It took a while for him to get his head on straight again, but when he did he was wondering why Seren hadn't taken the chance to get the drop on him. So the brunette glanced up and around, eyes going wide when she saw the why and immediately swore under his breath, ignoring Zephira cackling as he de-summoned her and came to a skidding stop beside the fallen ********, my bad, holy s**t I didn't think I'd hit that hard," he muttered, kneeling beside her now. "Seren? Hey, you alright? Can you get up? I can take you to the infirmary if you need me to..."
Gently he tapped her shoulder, doing his best to ignore Zephira, who was chiding him for coddling her like that, going on about how he landed the hit fair and square and whatever else she could come up with to snap him out of caring. But he did care that Seren got hurt, and all her screaming in the world wouldn't change his mind.

She looked up at him, and gave him a weak smile. "Shields made sure I didn't take too much damage, Rhys... But holy ******** hell that was a hard hit. I've never felt anything like that in my life." She reached up and patted his hand that he tapped her with.
"Just lemme... lemme catch my breath. I think I'll be able to get up in a minute or two, but I'm definitely done with sparring for the day. You won that, more then fair and square. That was a helluva hit." She gave him an honestly admiring grin, before closing her eyes to block out the glare of the sun.
It did feel good, though, seeing him that concerned for her after a hit like that. It showed her he cared, in his way, even if he wasn't thinking of her as more then a friend, to her knowledge.

Guilt gnawed at him as he knelt there, frowning and clearly still concerned despite her words. "Would've rather hit that damn Cloud in Mexico than you with it," he said on a sigh while looking her over. Other than her lying there and looking a little out of it because of his attack she looked fine, she was even grinning up at him; the shield, like she said, absorbed most of the damage. Thankfully.
"If you're sure," he went on after a second, reaching up and blocking the sun from her eyes. It was the least he could do.
"I could carry you to your dorm if you still can't stand in a bit, how's that?"
