Walking anywhere at night can be risky in Destiny City, but tonight it’s not being attacked by some punk in a strange outfit. The squeaking above you is a dead giveaway that you’re not going to have a good night. Perhaps you remember the flock of bats that swarmed down on Destiny City last year; if you’re lucky, this is your first time being attacked by one. Thankfully it seems like a lone bat has made its way out of whatever cave they’ve moved from, but this thing is giant. It has a six foot wingspan. Does the bat fly away without harassing you? Do you fight it? If it scratches you, you walk away fine, but if it bites you then you can expect a rough time. Being bitten by these bats leaves two small marks that will itch for a few hours. Then, exhaustion and fatigue sets in and you become extremely sensitive to external stimulus; skin feels like it becomes overheated in sunlight, bright lights are painful to the eyes, and smells and sounds can seem overwhelming. The victim will feel constantly cold and hungry, no matter how much they eat or drink. They may also be prone to agitation and bouts of violence. These afflictions may last only a few hours or a few days and then suddenly disappear.

Whilst Destiny City could be and often was weird, it was often downright dangerous at night–

And at the very least it was generally risky - and that was at the best of times.

Nighttime in the city wasn't something that particularly bothered Ashley, because when she wasn't being Ashley she was being Reinerite - and as a Captain of the Negaverse she could handle herself.

Not that she was alone on her patrol for the evening. She had run into Bloodstone part of the way through and had been happy enough to patrol with him, because the taller agent was both efficient and competent.

The evening had been shaping up to be a quiet one however and as she drifted into the tail end of her patrol, a part of Reinerite found herself contemplating wrapping it up for the night and maybe seeing if there was somewhere still open that did coffee...

Well at least that had been where her thoughts had been leaning to right up until the part where the squeaking had started up - thoughts of coffee and ending her patrol slipping away at the sound of noise coming from somewhere up above them.

The strange goings on in the city really needed to stop. Bloodstone simply brushed it off as something to deal with when it was the Negaverse’s doing, but with all the other strange things, it was getting annoying, and fast.

Meeting up with Reinerite was perfectly acceptable, because she knew what she was doing, and had gotten him out of plenty of pinches before. He was happy to try and drain some civilians or track down senshi, but fighting bats off was another thing entirely.

“Any idea why these things keep happening?” he asked over his shoulder as he put up his fists, not bothering with his pathetic weapon. He was a much better kickboxer than anything. And she had her own weapon. “Want to try and fight these, or get out of here?” Because if she just wanted to teleport away, he was more than happy.

He swung his fist at one of the bats, trying to knock it out of the way, its claws cutting into his hand as he did so.
