Prompt: A new candy store is giving free promotional candy to try and attract new customers. At first, it’s delicious; it’s easily one of the best candies you’ve ever had. Only, within twenty four hours of eating your first piece, you begin to have extreme tooth pain that can last for up to a whole day. It feels like a cavity, but a trip to the dentist reveals nothing strange. It just hurts. While the pain eventually fades, you’ll remember how much it hurt. Is your drive for Halloween Candy dented or are you still gearing up for more?
Dani had used some of her pocket money to buy some candy for the trick-or-treat-ers that came to their house this Halloween. Dani had decided not to go herself. Her brother and sister, Drew and Dria had said that was ridiculous when she told them. They said she was nine years old, she may feel too old to go in the coming years. She replied that she fought monsters every day. She didn't have the strength to go around foolishly trying to act like one; even to get candy. When she put it that, they mumbled, it made a lot of sense.
She was getting candy, because while her Halloween was forever ruined, she did not wish to ruin it for others. This year, there was an entire street dedicated to Halloween; Halloween Candy stores, Halloween Treat stores, Halloween Costume stores, Halloween Prank stores and Halloween Decoration stores. The list went on and on.
"Fang-lious Candies: Deviously Sweet Candies," Dani read the sign off a new store, a store so now that the vampire costumed owner was just putting out the "Now Open" sign. Strange that it was only open at night - 8pm to 4pm - oh! Holiday Hours! Right. Anyways, Dani had to hurry because her curfew was 8:30.
The store owner was putting out another sign - "First Piece FREE!" Woohoo! She would still get one piece of candy this Halloween. Quickly, she made her way the front steps of the store front and went in. The older "Vampiric" owner greeted her kindly and asked which piece of candy would she like. (NEVER TAKE CANDY FROM STRANGERS CHILDREN)
Dani grinned and carefully chose a dark chocolate. She opened it then and ate it there. Omigosh, was Heaven opening its doors and shining down it's light. Were angels trumpeting their blessing? That is how good it was.
She ordered three bags worth and spent all her money. She didn't care. I - I mean those trick-or-treaters need the best! She thought to herself as she hurried home, munching on another piece. She never remembered how she got to sleep that night, only that apparently she had eaten the entire amount of candy, because in the morning she had chocolate all over her mouth and the wrappers and bags were strewn across her room. Her parents were pied off, and her siblings were worried.
She was grounded, but she had a natural consequence as well, or shall we say unnatural. About 8:15 that night, she started screaming. She had horrific toothaches like you wouldn't believe. Mom clucked her tongue and said, "Now you understand why you don't eat so many sweets," but took her to the dentist, who didn't find a thing oddly.
Now her siblings were really worried. They watched over her but nothing happened. Eventually the pain went away. It was years though before she would eat any candy whatsoever, not just Halloween Candy. And the Candy Store? An abandoned house with no owner. A camera across the street revealed a video of her going to an abandoned house following no one in - spooky.
