Name: Bail
Age: 34
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Partysexual (Not really, but she ain’t talkin)
Weyr: Other
Rider Rank: Mercenary
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Assassin, publicly a Crafter
Physical Description: Tattooed in various places, hair cut atrociously into the worst styles anyone can fathom, eyes constantly bloodshot, and a snarky grin plastered onto heart-shaped face, all part of Bail’s charm. She’s is the image of what a three-day bender looks like on the receding end and manages to hold herself together fairly well despite her wild outlandish ways. If her nose is pierced when you first meet her, it might be hawked for money by the time you see her again. Nothing of value stays with her for long unless it can be used as a weapon, only then does she deem it worthy of keeping around long enough to be used.

Any clothing is usually stolen or acquired in a less than legal manner, in fact this is true of most everything she owns. Her lifestyle makes it hard to hold onto things and now that she must avoid thread Bail sells what she can when she can and generally doesn’t care to explain to others why she looks like a patchwork quilt stitched together by a drunken granny.
Personality: A violent and wild woman that is prone to random acts of drinking, smoking, violence, and partying with pirates. Bail is constantly on the move and always looking for her next mark, picking up jobs in each hold or Weyr that she visits and stealing blind anyone that is foolish enough to do business with her. Loyalty is foolish to her, that’s why she has very few people that she deals directly with outside of Zioneth or the occasional pirate or spy, why get close to anyone and build friendships when they might become her next mark? That being said, Bail does have a few friends on Pern that she made while she was just a child and has hung onto despite her personality becoming the twisted thing it is now.

Her wild side is not restricted just to her jobs but to every aspect of her life. Being a natural thief since she was a child has done nothing to teach her the value of anything that she has, especially since she could replace it or get the money to buy something better very easily. If something isn’t tied down, it isn’t safe around her. It makes surviving much easier than if she were completely alone without a way of finding food or money, however it has its drawbacks when it comes to dealing with the same people time after time.

Somehow others come to Bail when she needs them to and people do gravitate towards her as if she were a magnet. If she needs a job the right person falls in her lap and if she needs a way to unload goods at a local port she, for some reason she cannot explain to others, finds the right person for the job. It could be that her charisma makes up for her deplorable character, or it could be that she seems the correct type for the various jobs she finds herself taking. Having trained as an assassin makes her completely capable for the job of taking care of people, or simply capturing them if she has to and even though she doesn’t talk about it with people she never has a problem finding jobs. Zioneth does his best to keep her from taking too many jobs that might get her black-balled out of any Holds, especially the ones that involve messy killing since she no longer needs to do those things.

Positive Trait List: Motivated, Charismatic, Spontaneous, Logical
Negative Trait List: Wild, Violent, Untrustworthy, Easily distracted

History: No one knows Bail’s real name and given her general attitude towards telling people her history there is absolutely no chance that anyone might hear the real thing anytime soon. All the same, she was born to a couple in Rivercrest and with her birth sealed her mother’s death and changed her father from a loving husband into a drunken nutcase of a father. She suffered under his abuse for over a decade, taught from very young that she was worth nothing and that the opinions of others were dangerous. When Bail ate it was food that she fought for, either with her father or with the local dogs for scraps found in the garbage behind respectable establishments. The physical torture was bad enough that one day she finally up and left, joining the Courtesan Craft Hall at the age of nine and working her way up through the ranks so that she could learn from the best. Her violent ways were played down by her masters who shifted her into a very specialized craft.

While she was deemed smart enough and charismatic enough to become a spymaster, the masters of the Hall pressed her into becoming an assassin. Bail can certainly follow orders and her abusive upbringing in the shadows made her the perfect apprentice for the craft, one that she flourished under despite outwardly claiming to practice Crafting, amusingly enough. Her studies were almost as brutal as her upbringing and while she hated her teachers and all those around her for turning her into the perfect killing machine, Bail swallowed her complaints and learned with the intent to use it for her own devices. She did eventually walk the tables to Journeyman Crafter/Assassin and was given her first few assignments that wound her in holds and Weyrs across the two continents.

Bail met her eventual partner Zioneth by a complete fluke, having never been interested even once in dragons or Impressing it was a mistake. The young woman, just barely into her twenties, was given an assignment to assassinate a trader that had begun to stiff the Holds and Weyrs he did business with, earning him many enemies along the way. Bail had succeeded in gaining his favor by placing herself in his path and allowing her natural magnetism to work its magic in short order. The trader had invited her to come with him to a Weyr, the name of which she learned through her information gathering was Ista, it was a trip to bring much needed medical supplies that he intended to short the riders on. Her conscience was nearly non-existent by that point but she was still disgusted by the man’s desire to short sick and old riders of the medicine that they needed. She had agreed and followed him, seemingly happily, to the Weyr, intending to make his death a swift act of retribution brought about by ill dealings. Much to Bail’s dismay there was a hatching happening that day, a queen from a neighboring Weyr that had laid her clutch in the warmer sands of Ista. Ushered to the hatching grounds to watch, even as an outsider accompanying a trader, Bail watched in amusement as the small and large dragonets sought out their future life partners. It defied all logic to her when words erupted angrily in her mind, demanding that she come down to the sands to meet him. Why was she not down there?

Disturbed and afraid, the woman looked down and locked eyes with a reddish-brown dragonet that yowled loudly in her head and at length about her position above him. Zioneth would continue to yell at her, though not as angrily as time passed, for the rest of their lives together. She was ousted from her previous craft and delivered into the ranks of dragon rider, a rank she’d never once wished to have. Not only had she failed to take out her intended target, but she had Impressed a dragon, and a brown at that! No assassin could be stealthy on a brown, or so her master informed her as he cut her off from the Hall. Taken into the Weyr and taught the ways of a rider, a rank that possessed none of the secrecy that her previous craft had used daily, Bail flailed her way through her first years as a Weyrling and promptly disappeared as a senior weyrling when none watched her movements. Her absence caused a great outcry of shock and horror to the Weyr that had been training her, insulted that she would leave before becoming a fully-fledged rider and the fact that she seemingly disappeared off the face of Pern. What they didn’t know was that she had returned to Rivercrest, intent on using her skills as an assassin to fulfill one last job for herself.

Once in Rivercrest though, her plans changed when she met a pirate that showed a great interest in Zioneth and the fact that she had run from her Weyr. Bail deviated from her plans once she met him and her father, the intended target of her decades long hatred, managed to still suck air down his windpipe, never knowing how close he had come to death. The pair followed the pirate onto his ship and became crew members for a very short time, eventually kicked from the crew for the generalized mayhem and destruction that ran in their colossal wake. Bail and Zioneth cut out on their own once they were kicked form the ship and have made their way as Mercenaries for hire, though the pair are not exactly the cheapest since there are few places where they are exactly welcome. Their capers are known across Pern as being some of the wildest and most despicable. Thread has thrown a wrinkle into their once carefree lives, necessitating movement and sometimes abandoning their jobs early to avoid being scored by the falling white threat. So far the two have stayed well enough ahead of it to avoid any lasting personal damage, but they have seen what Thread has done to Holds all over and the pair often fret about coming in contact with it without the aid of firestone.
Other: There is nothing that Bail won’t do for the power of the almighty mark, but her days of killing people for orders are almost completely past. She’s not above listening to orders if they’re demanded of her, but she’s her own free agent now.

DRAGON
Name: Zioneth
Age: 12
Color: Brown
Size: 37’
Physical Description: A burly dragon by any standards, Zioneth might not be the largest brown but he is muscled from years on the move and has been kept in good condition despite missing the occasional oiling when his loving rider is waiting for a pay day. His reddish coloring causes double-takes regularly and the light brown markings on his face and neck stand out, almost giving him a regal appearance despite his outlaw nature. He jokes that it is a good thing he is naturally pre-disposed to look dusty, otherwise the dust he does wear would look outrageous.
Personality: Don’t stand too close to this particular dragon. Though he might not eat you, he will definitely take a swipe to clear himself of your presence! Zioneth is mean and can play downright dirty when times call for it and in his opinion times always call for it. When he isn’t yelling at Bail he’s commenting on the state of the world around him with colorful language that gentle ears would never withstand without shaking. His temper is shorter than his riders and it shows in his actions, prone to boredom if a job is taking too long Bail runs the risk of being left behind when the dragon leaves abruptly. They have had lengthy conversations about it.

He's not without his loyalty to his rider, but Zioneth doesn’t care for the loyalty of others and certainly shows no interest in dealing with them. Other dragons are his enemy and he will only risk going around them when the occasional gold dragon rises, otherwise he steers clear of them and any attempt at contact is met with snarling and violence. Dragons have tried in the past to get him to listen to them, to get him to return to a Weyr, especially with the sudden and devastating appearance of Thread in the sky once more.

Zioneth’s swift retreats Between have managed to save the pair each time the threat of Thread looms, but the large dragon often stresses that his rider will push herself too hard on a job one day and get the pair of them killed by the falling dangers. This has him watching the sky and listening to the advice of the loathsome watchwhers at each Hold, trying to stay one step ahead of the fall and the dragons and riders that inevitably come along with its appearance.
