An old church you are familiar with and have seen many times has recently been closed due to fire damage. The area has been deemed too dangerous for anyone to enter, and yet you notice a strange gargoyle perched on the roof. It is large and imposing and you know it’s never been there before. If you try to climb up the building or if you leave the area and return, the gargoyle will have disappeared. You never see it move, but you know you saw it. Giant stone sculptures don’t just up and fly away…right? Whatever it is you saw, it’s gone now, but you might want to keep your eyes on the rooftops and pay attention when the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Caliban wasn't sure why he had come back here. He had never really been that interested in any sort of church and only knew about this one because it had been on the news recently and was on his way to archery practice. However, something had bothered him about it as he had walked home one day. He thought he saw... something. Like a gargoyle. Sure, he knew that there were some gargoyles on old buildings, but those tended to be situated in Europe and were really, really old. So to see one on this building... he had thought it was interesting at first.
However, on that same day that he came back from archery practice, it had somehow vanished. Or at least he thought it had vanished. Maybe it had never been there in the first place? He would have thought nothing of it, but the next few times that he went to practice, he had a feeling that was causing the hairs on the back of his neck to stand up every time he went past it. Something was clearly still in there, and until he knew what it was, he wouldn't be able to be able to go past it with some peace.
And so, he had taken the opportunity of a day that he had off to go and look at the old church, though he was being cautious. After all, this building could practically collapse at any moment and he certainly didn't want to be stuck underneath some rubble to die a slow death. And so he was checking every step he took, even though he had only gotten to one of the burned out sides. Again, the feeling re-appeared but with more intensity this time and-a white moon aura?!

She had walked this way many times before, with Aidan, and Amelie, and Jada. They ever really went to churches, though they looked at them because they were pretty, so when this one had caught fire and burned down, Giulia almost might not have noticed. But lately, when she and her brother had walked by, their bodyguards escorting them from one place to the other, Aidan had made an observation- "There's something on the roof." That had gotten her attention more than anything else. The little blonde had peered up, and realized that instead of a cross on top of the chapel like she'd thought... it looked like a statue?
Like in Hunchback of Notre Dame! But then the next time they had walked by, the statue was gone, the roof empty, and that had sent the hairs prickling on the back of her neck. She'd huddled extra close to her brother, ever since. Sometimes she thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye, but the status was gone, after that day. And that was creepy. Giulia didn't think creepy things that sent yucky chills down the spine were good, so she was going to have to find out all about it. Tonight, she would be approaching the chapel as Charybdis, not Giulia. Surely, as a magical girl, she could get to the bottom of this mysterious mischief!
As she crept along, she couldn't see anything. The roof looked normal enough, tonight. If it weren't for the creepy feeling on the back of her neck, she might have gone home. Dark was yucky. What she also thought she could feel, as she approached, was an... it was like a- oh, what had they called it? A good feeling, that didn't quite counteract the bad one. But it was warm, and slightly fuzzy. "Magical person?" she tried to hiss, but- she was 7. It came out more a chipper cry. "Is there another magic person here?"
Caliban nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard the slightly high-pitched voice in the building, and had to give himself a moment to catch his breath. It took him a few seconds to realize what the voice had been asking, and he realized that it sounded like a little kid. He wanted to keep himself hidden for a moment, what if they found out who he was?! But then realized that that was probably where the other aura was coming from and relaxed a bit, but panicked again because of the entire situation.
"Yes and stay right there! I'm going to come toward you!" He said in reply as he made his way to the aura. Powered or not, a little kid really shouldn't be exploring a condemned building with some weird disappearing creature on it.
He slowly made his way over, some of the floorboards creaking as he stepped on them, but eventually found the little senshi that was in the building and sighed a bit. It was a little girl who couldn't be older than 7 or so and seemed really scared to be here, which made him wonder why she had come in the first place. "Are you all right? This isn't really a place for kids to be wandering around..." He thought he heard something, but dismissed it for now.

Oh! There was someone else here! Excellent! Giulia's little head swiveled to and fro, looking for the source of the voice. "I can stay, I guess. Will you be coming quick?" the inside of the church was much darker than it had been outside, and she couldn't see the roof parts quite so good. Really, she couldn't see anything quite as good. Too bad that she hadn't thought to try and bring a flashlight or something. Oh! What if her magical phone thing had one? She hummed, summoning her phone and peering at it intently.
Oh- that was too bright. She peered at the screen as the warm feeling made its way closer, and when the boy was in sight, she gave him a wide, beaming smile, tension visibly draining from narrow shoulders. Oh, good. It was a big magical prince!
He would, clearly, be super strong and powerful, and they would be just fine! Probably. "i'm fine!" she told him cheerfully, but her brow furrowed. "I'm not a kid, though! I'm a magic girl, and I'm- I'm here to do justice, and make badness go away! And there's some badness here, I think. Don't you?" If he didn't, he probably wouldn't be here. "Are you here to make the yucky feeling go away too, if you can?"
Caliban was still a bit bothered that such a little kid had come here all on her lonesome. She could have at least come with some friends. Isn't that what they usually did? Form a group of friends to fight monsters? He sighed. "Well... neither of us should really be here." He muttered to himself as he thought he saw something moving out of the corner of his eye. When he got to looking though, there was nothing. He turned his attention back to the girl.
"You may be a 'magical girl' but that doesn't mean you can take everything on yourself. Next time make sure you come with some friends or something." He said, moving down to her height. A little uncomfortable considering how tall he was, but he had to do it with his little brother so often and so he wouldn't complain. He smiled though, in case he had 'offended' her in some way. Best not to make little kids angry, they were certainly known to be quite stubborn.
"I do think there's some badness though, but whether we can make it go away is another story. And I feel the, uh, 'yucky' feeling too. It's certainly not nice and it would be good if we could get it away. We just have to find it." But why was it so hard to pinpoint? Suddenly he heard a creak and his head swiveled to the ceiling, trying to see where it had come from.

"I couldn't bring my friends," she said simply, "It could be dangerous, and most my friends aren't magical like me. I got a cell phone, but I don't have many people in it cause I have to be sneaky so no one finds out about me being magical." She shouldn't be surprised that the older magcial prince was disapproving- most of the ones she had met even before she was magical hadn't liked the amount of trouble she could manage to get herself into... usually without even trying.
He belt down, and Giulia tried to pull her lean body up to its full height. She was 49 and a half inches- that was very tall, the doctor said. So. "Do you want to be my phone friend? I can call you when I want to go do something to help people." that sounded like a good idea- and as it was his, surely he'd like to be one of her first phone friends!
"So, what if I use my magic to try and make the badness come out? My magic is perfect, and I'm sure that Boop wouldn't mind being used to pull attention. Boop is nice, and super cute. I think you'll like them. Here." the bad feeling was still there, but having the other senshi with her made her feel extra brave, and she stepped out into the more open middle of the church.
Clearing her throat, she cried- "Come on out Boop, you precious Seal Pup!"
And out came Boop. Boop shimmered like a star, pale blue fur almost twinkling with magic. Boop's orks were soft and gentle, and Charybdis hurried back towards the other senshi, leaving Boop to roam in a circle, aimless.

Charybdis creates what looks to be a baby seal. It is clearly magical. It is very cute, and the soft little squeaks it makes encourage everyone to look at it. And not at Charybdis herself. It is precious and pure. With very big, wet, cute eyes. It can remain in a 10 foot area of where Charybdis cast the ability, flopping aimlessly towards her enemies and making soft little chuffy-whuffy noises. Seal Pup can be used 3 times and it is effing adorable. The seal remains for 20 seconds unless viciously attacked; once attacked, it cries for 5 seconds and vanishes (either at the end of the 5 seconds or at the end of its duration if attacked late). (TL;DR: Look! A Distraction!)
Caliban held back the urge to roll her eyes when she called this place dangerous and yet still came here anyway. "Well as strong as you are, and I know that you are strong, magic isn't everything. Even I have trouble against the bad guys you know?" He kept back a shudder thinking about that youma he had encountered. He would try to avoid that again until he could become a bit more powered, or get more training at least.
"I... sure I'll be your phone friend." Might as well be, that way there wouldn't some little girl wandering around and overestimating herself in fights and then getting hurt or worse. Maybe he could introduce her to some other senshi that might have a better schedule than him and be able to go with her on 'patrol'. "Oh! I'm Caliban by the way. Better to call each other by our names right?" How did he always forget the introductions part? He supposed it was because they always tended to be high-stress situations that didn't lend itself to small-talk.
"Boop?" He could only get out until he saw her casting a spell to apparently demonstrate to him how good she was. And it was distracting! It was one of those fuzzy seal pups being just... adorable.
After a while the seal pup disappeared and Caliban remembered where they were. "Well that was... cute but I'm not sure-" He was interrupted when suddenly there was the sound of glass being broken behind him. He looked around and saw what looked like a huge, hulking gargoyle that had crashed through the roof and was on one of the remaining parts of the upper floor. The creature, well youma pretty much, then almost sent a loud screech at them, even though it had the head of a demon and wings of an eagle. "Get down!" He said to the girl as he put himself between her and the youma.

She peered up at him with bright, curious blue eyes. "Are you real strong?" she asked the older, magical, prince. Even he had trouble, so the bad guys must be extra strong too. He was certainly tall, so maybe the bad guys were just really big? Like bullies! Giulia hated bullies- they were bad people, and badness needed to be spanked, super hard. "I'm not the strongest," she admitted, "But I'm quick! And I'm wriggly!" Not that being fast and wriggly was actually any good in a fight.
"Yay!" his confirmation that he would be her phone friend got an accompanying cheer; "I'm Charybdis. Like the sea monster! In one of the old legends, Zeus cursed her into a bladder with flippers, and if you think about it, a seal kind of looks like a bladder with flippers, doesn't it?" the most adorable bladder. She pulled out her phone, still admiring Boop, and peered at the little buttons. She probably should have asked the Guardian Cat a few more questions on how to use it- it looked like a normal phone, but there were so many extra things to do! Still, she managed to grab a picture of him while he was watching Boop.
It was kind of hard not to remind him that she had told him Boop was the cutest.
"Cute?!" she protested, "That was fa-" smash! Glass broke, and Giulia screeched as a- a THING screamed in the window at them. NOPE NOPE NOPE. "I think we found the yucky thing!" she screeched to him unnecessarily; "I told you Boop would help!" Not even something this ugly could resist the cuteness of Princess Giulia and Boop!!! "It looks like an ugly Laverne!" she yelped, not stopping to wonder if Caliban had ever even seen the Hunchback movie. "What are we gonna do?!"
Caliban couldn't really answer the question of how strong he was, though he knew he wasn't anything like Hercules for example, but senshi were supposed to be a bit stronger than actual humans, right? And they would have to exchange phone numbers later, but at least he knew her name now.
He thought for a couple of seconds as the gargoyle-like youma made it's descent towards them. "Hey, how about you use your at-I mean Boop and distract it for a bit? I promise I won't leave you, but if we can distract the monster, I could get a hit in with my magic and we just might be able to defeat it!" Right? Youma like this could be dusted pretty easily? He wasn't sure. He hadn't really ever gone up against a youma without someone else having dusted it. "I promise I'll protect you." He didn't want her to be worried, or at least to run away screaming. The youma would probably go after her first. He also would never be able to forgive himself if he knew he could have kept her from getting hurt and she was injured somehow. "You and Boop can really help me out in this fight, right Charybdis?" He asked, trying to be a bit encouraging.

Giulia was ready for this, and she bounced up onto her toes, fear rushing through tiny veins. Like when she exercised too much- what did they call it- Aden nalin? Whatever it was, she was all- all pumped! With energy, and fear! "Yeah!" she agreed with Caliban easily, without hesitation, because clearly he understood the benefits of Boop, "That sounds like a great idea."
She scampered up alongside him, and tossed a grin up at the old senshi, comforted by his presence at her side. "Maybe Boop and I will be the ones to protect you!" she told him, kicking at his ankle with the cheerful thoughtlessness of a 7-year old. She'd seen older people nudge at each other's ankles before, so it was probably a friend thing, right? Or something. "I can probably pick up a little piece of wood and we can try and hit it?" But first- Boop!
"Seal Pup, come back!" she called out for her friend eagerly, and the magical seal scampered forward again, squeaking delightfully. Giulia gave a small awwww, and then went to go see if there was anything she could pick up to use as a club.
At least Charybdis was willing to go and fight this out! Though he wasn't sure if he could protect her for too long. He managed to avert his eyes from the baby seal pup and looked at the youma gargoyle. It seemed to be entranced by the baby seal, though Caliban wasn't sure if that was because it found it cute or delicious.
Either way, he would take the distraction as an opportunity to attack it, and ran up to the youma sending his fist out at one of it's arms. "Seal Matrix!" He practically yelled at the youma, and managed to hit it in one of it's arms. Luckily for him, the gargoyle was still distracted by the seal pup and hadn't noticed Caliban's attack, though he could tell it was starting to wear off as the gargoyle gained an angry look on it's stoned-face. At least hitting the gargoyle hadn't been too hard, but the pain that shot up through his hand made him think twice about doing it again, at least unless he was sure he could defeat it.
He turned a bit toward Charybdis and said, "Just so you know, it definitely feels like it's made of solid stone." He was really hoping he didn't have any broken knuckles after that.
Seal Matrix When he hits an opponent with his fists, causes them to be temporarily paralyzed for 15 seconds, where he hit his opponent (the same was as in the basic attack), but can be used 4 times. If he hits in quick succession, then the effect stacks (so if he hits twice quickly, that's 8 seconds). However, for the stack effect to take place, he must hit a different spot. He cannot hit the same spot. Starting at this stage his hands glow as he is about to hit.

Boop was going so good, and Giulia was proud to see that the monster seemed distracted by her cute little Boop. That was, after all, what it seemed like her friend was for! Being a distraction, and making people feel better when they were sad! Or something. There were only a few moments that she would have to try and find something to hit the monster with, and...
Behind her, she could hear the older senshi yelling, and she picked up a board, lugging it back towards the older magical person. "Wh- hard?" the panic rose in her throat- wood couldn't beat rock! Scissors broke on rock, and they were metal! She should have known they were hard- "Can we make it, maybe, hold still? We can try and fall on it with the board when it goes after Boop again?" If it went after Boop- it was looking really angry at Caliban. "Or maybe you're strong enough to wallop it in the face real good with the board?"
If he wasn't, they might be in trouble! She didn't want to ruin the church more!
The gargoyle was still paralyzed, and sent it's good arm towards Caliban who managed to jump out of the way just in time. He heard Charybdis's question and considered it. "You know what... that's a pretty good idea! I haven't been able to try this with my magic yet, but I should be able to get it so that it doesn't move anymore, or at least can't move it's leg an other arm. You can distract it with Boop again and we can put the board in front of it, then I paralyze it with my magic, and that should be able to do it I think!"
Or at least he hoped. He wasn't sure if the only way to 'dust' a youma was using actual magic on it. After all, he could only use his attack 3 more times, and Charybdis could only conjure distractions, so if they didn't dust it after all of that, they would definitely have to flee and hope that either it didn't follow them, or they ran into someone who could help them.

Being told that she'd had a good idea was pleasing to the chibi senshi, and encouraging in a moment when her confidence was beginning to fail. After all, Boop couldn't help her fight, probably, and Charybdis herself wasn't strong like Ara, or like the bigger senshi. All she had to offer was cheer, and off the wall ideas.
"I've never tried to use Boop more than just three times," she admitted, and bit her lip. "Or at least, Boop's never worked more than that. So this will be the last time. We'll have to set it up just right to use her, okay?" Hopefully, her sweet Boop would forgive her for being so demanding. But Boop was magic, so she wasn't sure Boop needed to forgive her? It was something she would- LATER. She needed to focus on helping Caliban fight Ugly Laverne.
"Okay." she said it aloud, to ground herself, and then yelled out- "Boop! Come here, my little seal pup!" Unless the gargoyle attacked it, they had 20 seconds to line up the death of Ugly Laverne. "Let's go, Caliban!"
Caliban listened to Charybdis carefully. He knew that they had a limit on their powers, and to even be able to use the seal pup 3 times was quite a bit deal. He watched as she sent the seal pup out one last time and new he had to act fast. "Great job Charybdis!" He replied before rushing over to the gargoyle, trying to make sure he wouldn't punch it as hard as last time, but he made sure to send out his fist as he made a move towards it's legs. He could have done the chest, but wasn't sure that would be worth it!
"Seal Matrix!" He replied as he aimed one fist for each leg, hoping that it would make the gargoyle trip. He managed to land a hit, and the youma flailed for a bit. Caliban called back to the chibi "All right we have to set it up now!" Though perhaps if it did just fall forward, then it would still be dusted. If not, then he would aim for the chest this next time, making sure to put all of his power into it!
