“Prompt” You hear a weird scuttling on your rooftop in the middle of the night but it doesn’t sound like any rodent or noise you can easily identify. Whatever it is sounds like it’s doing a lot of movement—and is sizeable enough to give you decent concern. Is it an animal? A robber? If you listen closely you can hear strange chattering and an odd whisper; it feels like eyes are watching you, but you can’t see anything. The noise doesn’t last for long; whatever is on your roof is moving—but, if you are brave enough to check outside you might be sorely disappointed to find that you can’t see anything but shadows. Either way, there’s something out there…and it’s not safe to stay out for long. Julian had no idea how long he’d been awake, sapphire eyes wide and locked onto the textured ceiling of his new bedroom. The chocolate lab Staccato was clutched tightly to his body and the two of them (well, mostly Julian) had built a small blanket fortress to hide inside. Something was scratching on the roof, something… monstrous and alien. Was it the Negaverse?? Was it a youma??? The young man couldn’t help but closely examine that fear, for it was a real possibility - the Negaverse could be out to find him again and drag him back to the darkness of the Rift. Staccato whined from being held too tightly and that was it for Julian - they were going to find Roddy, who was big and strong and… not really scary, but still bigger than the two of them… Scritch scritch scritch…With a half-stifled yelp, both the dog and the young man fell out of bed and scrambled down the the hall to where one Roderick Bolasco was fast asleep. The man could sleep through earthquakes. Julian was convinced of this. Wearing an oversized shirt with a faded yellow star on the front and some well-loved pajama pants from Delilah, the Scooby and Shaggy stand-ins nearly leapt atop the poor larger man when the scratching grow louder. Staccato licked Roddy’s face with Julian tried to shake him away. “R-roddy! Roddy! There’s… Roddy, wake up! There’s a--” Scritch scritch scritch. “---there’sathingontheroofroddywakeuppleasepleaseplease!!!”

It was true. Roderick Bolasco could truly sleep through anything. Whatever was skittering out on the rooftop was lost on him as his dreams kept him locked in place and in comfort. His snores seemed to drown out the scratches; while not loud, it was a nice, low rumble that surely would be distracting anyone else who had happened to be in the bedroom with him. There was one thing, though, that Roddy just couldn’t sleep through, and that was another person’s panic. The moment he heard the pitter-pattering of feet bolting towards his bedroom door, he stirred awake, if but barely. Then two bodies, one furry and one not, landed ontop of him and he gave a soft ‘oof!’ as they shook him and licked him awake.
The first thing he did was sat up, putting his gently around the other’s waist and pulled him closer to him, groggily blinking away the sleep in his eyes with a small smile. It certainly wan’t the first time someone who was frightened had woken him up from his slumber, but it was the first time it wasn’t a child. He reacted the same way though, soft sounds of comfort and a gentle hug with one arm, while the other, reached towards Staccato and gave his head a ruffle.
“Ahh… What’s going on…? Something… on the… yawn… on the roof right?” he asked, eyes turning to see if there was anything he could notice. As if on cue, another loud scritch scritch scritch came, and he blinked, a look of concern in his eyes while his brow narrowed. “Seems like we have a guest… Alright, I’ll go check it out. If you don’t mind letting me up.”

Julian was squished into Roderick's side, between his roommate and the wall, scurrying under the blankets as if that would protect him from whatever was scratching on the roof. He was sure it was unholy, something awful, something that possibly came from the Rift. Would Roddy understand? As Bazzite, he was somewhat of an exception - sometimes able to communicate and think and feel as a human might, exempt from the horrible hunger and instinct to kill. With a soft and concerned sigh, Julian wrapped an arm around Roddy's bicep. "Roddy... what if... what if it's the Negaverse? What if it's a youma? I don't... want you to get hurt... Maybe... Maybe it's a raccoon or something... something... not super super bad." He was frightened, sure, but Roddy's safety meant more than his own mental relief. Even Staccato seemed more interested in snuggling than investigating. Already the pup was making himself comfortable on the opposite side of Roddy, though his fluffy ears twitched every time the scratching sound happened. Julian's blue eyes were locked onto the ceiling for a few tense moments, his grip tightening on the larger man's arm. "...do you think it's the Negaverse...? Do you think they... they found me...?" Julian certainly hoped not, for that would place Roddy in immense danger, and a Page simply couldn't withstand the overwhelming assault the Negaverse could muster. The room was darkened, comfortable and warm. Aside from the scratching on the roof, nothing was amiss. Julian sighed and wondered if more blankets would make him feel more secure.

Roddy could only blink sleepily again at Julian as he dove under the blankets for cover. While he knew it probably wasn't anything to be scared of, he also knew that Julian had seen much worse things than he had... And he knew that sleep didn't always come easy to the younger man. With a quiet sound of comfort, he pulled back the blankets a little, allowing Julian to wrap himself around his arm, and used his free hand to gently thread into the soft powdery blue locks of his.
"If it's the Negaverse we'll have to make them leave. Same with a youma. They aren't welcomed in this house without permission, and nothing will hurt you OR me. I promise you that." His hand trailed down to Julian's cheek after a moment, thumb brushing over his skin with a light touch. Though the light was only that which filtered in through the window outside, he could still make out those brilliantly blue eyes full of worry and fear and it broke his heart.
Again, he shifted, this time sitting up completely and pulled Julian to sit in his lap, arms around him tightly, and let him rest against his chest for a moment, fingers returning to run through the other's hair.
"You're safe here, Julian... We have lots of raccoons in the area.. And Staccato seems calm too, so it doesn't seem to smell too strange... I know we'll be alright... Would you like me to go check, or stay here with you until the sound goes away? You know you're always free to sleep with me whenever you are scared. No one will hurt you as long as you're under this roof, understand?"

The young man tried to stifle a whine as Roddy pulled him in for a hug. One thing Julian learned immediately was that the larger man was much warmer than the people he was used to - literally. Julian himself ran cold, likely a leftover from being a giant insect trapped in a place with no sunlight. He practically lived in sweaters and cardigans and his hands and feet were icy to the touch. Roddy was the exact opposite - always warm and sometimes to the point of discomfort. Roderick was a kind and gentle soul, so much that Julian still harbored a great deal of thick, black guilt in his delicate heart. As a youma, he'd wrapped razor teeth around Roddy's arm and ruined a beautiful tattoo his sister had created. Even now, the artwork was deformed and discolored from bruising and blood loss. He knew Roddy didn't blame him for his actions, but Julian blamed himself. He remembered so little of that life, but what he did remember was horrifying. It kept him up at night. With a sniffle, Julian settled against Roddy's chest, resting his head at the junction of Roddy's neck and shoulder. He was right - their furry companion seemed more agitated by Julian's reaction than by the sounds themselves. If anyone would know of something amiss, it would be Staccato - superior hearing had its perks. This knowledge, combined with Roddy's warmth, put his mind at ease. "Mmm... you're right, Roddy. Just..." Lifting his head, despite knowing Roddy couldn't see his eyes very well in the darkness, Julian nudged beneath the larger man's chin with his puffy hair. "...I just... worry about you. I shouldn't worry about me. That's selfish. I don't want to be selfish... I just... don't want you to go out there and get hurt. You're right. If Staccato isn't scared, then," Yaaaawn. "...then, I'm not so scared, either..." Maybe it was the adrenaline wearing off, but Julian was feeling incredibly sleepy. Staccato must've known it as well, for the dog scooted up next to the two of them for some serious snuggle time.

”Now now, don’t fuss. I’m not letting you go, and I won’t leave either.” Roddy scolded the other lightly as he heard a whine come from the other as he pulled him close and laid back down with him. Julian was a man, just as much as he was, but he couldn’t help but treat him with the same touch and tone as he used to with his little niece and nephew. There was a touch of childlike wonder still in Julian, only having been ‘born’ a month or so earlier, and it was easier to respond to his actions like he was treating a child, for now.
The thought of what happened in the past, bites and bruising and messed up art hardly passed through Roddy’s mind because something far greater resided with those memories, and that was the fact that Julian was human now, and here, with him.
“I know… I worry too… And you should worry about yourself. You have to take care of yourself, and if that means running to me for help, my arms are open for you, okay? Now, get some sleep.” His own voice seemed to be losing its form, sleepiness taking ahold of him once again and kissed the top of Julian’s head softly.
“Good night, Julian.”
