It was one of those times. Eurig had gone to Tale to spend time with his father and that meant she got bored some times. Subira sat with her chin in her hand as she stared out the window of her room. Heaving a sigh she watched as a Nondwa flew among the trees. "I bet you have your little brother to play with." She complained.
Subira was especially bored because her mother had decided to go hunting without her. That meant that she had to sit around waiting. Unless her mom had something for her to do. Blinking her eyes a few times she lifted her head and looked around to see if Ujana had poked her head into her room. When she didn't see the leaf woman she got up and headed out to look through the house to find her. "Mom? Mom..." The young alk called into the rooms after Ujana.

Ever since she'd opened her tavern Ujana's days off had seemed to slip away from her. There in the beginning it had been worse; trying to balance a baby with a young relationship and a new business had been nothing short of hell. Thankfully both Ariya and Oddrick had been supportive; and even though she knew that her girlfriend rarely liked having her baby daddy around for longer than he needed to be during that time she'd needed him there.
These days like had balanced out. She was no able to work and see her family, and even though sometimes those scales tipped one way or the other it still seemed to work out in the end. It made her grateful to sleep in, even if she did wake up without Ariya at her side. Ujana just took her time getting ready in the morning, deciding to pull her hair back into a simpler ponytail instead of the elaborate bands she had grown accustomed to. What was the point? It was her day off, time to chill without worrying about someone picking on Eurig and spend some time with her daughter.
And worry about someone picking on her instead.
Really, people could be so dense!
"I'm in here!" Hearing Subria calling out made Ujana bellow in response. She was sitting ontop of her bed, one foot crossed over the other with a small vial of paint sitting on the night stand. Already two of her toes were painted a dark, almost black, shade of brown and the others were sure to follow. "Is everything alright?"

When she heard her earthling mother's voice she made her way toward it. Subira entered into the room and shook her head. "No. I have nothing to do." She moved toward the bed before letting her body fall in a flop onto it. Of course that would disturb her mom's efforts to paint her toes. "I hate when Euri goes to Tale without me." Subira understood why. She wasn't that odd man's child. Still, she thought she was old enough to go without needing to be babysat. "Can we do something?" She half whined with boredom.

Ujana's head was bent over, pulling her foot as close to her face as she dared to get the perfect swipe of the polish brush. She quirked her mouth into a grin, "You're brave, Subira, saying you're bored to your mom. That's like an open door for me to give you chores-"
She was just about to take a good swipe, with the brush dipped and loaded with fresh polish, when her daughter flopped onto the bed, causing Ujana's hand to jump. The polish marked the skin of her foot instead. "Oh come on!" She groaned and turned her head up to the ceiling, loosening her hunched posture in the meantime. A part of her wanted to be angry at Subira in that moment, because for once in her life the process of being 'girly' was turning out well, but really, she couldn't. Aggravated, sure, but she could never really be mad at her girl.
"I miss him too, honey, but Eurig needs just as much time with his dad as he does us." It was hard, seeing one without the other, especially when she knew how close her kids were, but that was just the way of things. Sympathetically she reached out to pat Subira's knee. "If you promise not to whine anymore we'll go do something today; whatever you want."

She huffed. Subira wanted to whine more and have a fit about missing her precious baby brother, but since she knew Ujana would just put her foot down more she rolled so that she was closer to her mom. "Can you do my hair?" She always liked how her mom did her own hair so she wanted to know what hers would look like in the same fashion. Of course her dreads weren't all that long so it might be a bit of a challenge. After asking her question she took the brush from Ujana's hand and moved to dip it into the polish. Since she had caused her mom to mess up she figured she might as well help fix it. "Gimmie the toes." With her free hand she made a "come hither" motion. "Mama went hunting early this morning and didn't bother to wake me up. So as punishment you get to be super pretty just to tease her."

"I can try." Even though she'd had plenty of practice manipulating dreadlocks into several different styles she wasn't as adept at it as Ariya. She liked to think that if she'd been raised with them that she might be better at it, but Ujana didn't want to lie to herself. She threw her hair into the most low-maintenance hairstyles she could, and that's why she'd allowed it to grow so long. The longer it was, the less she had to think about hair; at least, she'd thought that before having a daughter.
Ujana pulled both feet up onto the bed and brought her knees together, wrapping her arms around them while exposing her toes to Subira. "Wanna really go all out today and mess with her when she gets back? Maybe pretend like she forgot something, and have a little fun with it?" She grinned mercilessly. It hadn't even occurred to Ujana to pull a trick on her lover, but...now it seemed almost too good to pass up.

As her mom gave her the idea to make it seem like her mother had forgotten something she grinned. "Hmn, like what?" Though she instantly had a few ideas of her own she was interested to know what Ujana was thinking. After all, Subira could easily make it seem like Ariya was supposed to have been picking up Eurig. Though she imagined making her mother freak out thinking she forgot her son would be a bad thing. The young alk could only see herself in trouble for that later. While she waited for ideas to flow between them she took to painting her mom's toenails. Subira wasn't sure why she liked doing such a thing since her feet were going to get dirty. Unless she wanted them to look pretty for whoever it was she kicked in the face. But even then the girl thought it odd since if she was kicking them in the face they didn't deserve the extra effort to look pretty.

"Anniversary wouldn't work, since you'll be dressed up too, unless we're having a big party." Ujana split her face into a wide grin. "That could work. We've been together long enough to do something like that...but that takes a lot of planning so she would have at least known a little. Damn." She couldn't say it was something 'religious' since she wasn't a practitioner. This would take a little bit of thinking.
As she worked on keeping her feet as still as possible, Ujana pondered. She raised a hand up to her face, plucking at her lower lip as she hummed. It had to be something good, but nothing too extreme that Ariya would get overly worked up..."Oh! I've got it; we can say my father's getting married. He's never around much, he was in Zena last I heard, so we could just make up some story that he came back to Tale to get married."
To her it made perfect sense. It wasn't as if Ariya and Uquin exchanged long, thought out letters with one another, so it wasn't likely that she would even know where he was at the moment, let alone what was happening in his love life. "And, I don't talk about him much, so it would be easy for me to say something in passing and boom, she's forgotten all about it."

She giggled a little when her mom said that an anniversary wouldn't work. Subira thought it could if they played it right, but then again she was right it did take planning. The young alk continued painting until she got the very last one finished then she leaned closer to blow softly. She wanted to help them dry faster. "I don't think I've ever met grandfather... have I?" Maybe she had when she was little? Though she was sure she would have remembered. It brought up a whole other line of questions. With Ujana set on using that as the trick she nodded. "Sounds good!" Now she just needed to figure out what to wear in order to make her mother think she's dressed for a special occasion.

"When you were little," Ujana reached for the tiny paint pots and sealed them before sitting the polish on a little night stand beside the bed. She briefly fanned her toes before scooting to the edge of the bed, slipping off with a litttle smile. "He wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing before he left. I think he still thinks I'm a little crazy, but I know he loves you kids. He's just grumpy."
She remembered telling her father that she'd become the step-mother to a little alkidike girl and he'd taken to that about as well as he had when he learned she was dating an alkidike while simultaneously pregnant with what was obviously not her significant other's baby. There are been some disagreements, but it was all in good spirits. They just had a very unique relationship, and she loved him for it.
Ujana moved closer to a little chair she had next to the door and patted the back. "Okay, come on over and I'll see what I can do with those dreads."

So she had met the man. Subira gave a strange look as she tried to remember. When she couldn't think up a face or even a time she figured it must have been when she was either half asleep or too busy eating. Maybe one day she could meet the man again and actually remember it. As her mom patted the back of a chair she grinned and bounced up so that she could make her way across the room. Once there she plopped down and wiggled into the chair. "I know my hair isn't as long as yours but I love how you wear your hair." She had ever since she could remember.

Ujana ran her fingers through Subira's dreads, gliding her finger tips across her daughter's scalp in a light massage. It was certainly thick enough; even without dreadlocks Ujana doubted anyone would ever call this hair 'thin', but the length just wasn't there to make it look exactly like how she normally wore her own hair. However, she could get close.
"You could always grow it out and then we can be twins." She started manipulating the dreadlocks into something akin to a mix between Ariya's current hairstyle and Ujana's. While she started out near the top of her head, gathering the dreads together, Ujana used her own golden bangles to keep it together. It would mean she would need to get a little more creative with her own style, or maybe she could just let it free flow today; either way, it wouldn't matter, not when her daughter looked as cute as she was.

Subira chuckled as her mother mentioned growing her hair out to be twins. She supposed that she could grow her hair out. It certainly needed it since she had uneven layers. Though she'd done that on purpose as she'd grown. Now she wanted them to be a bit more even, just so she could do things with her dreads. She looked upward as she felt Ujana's hands work their magic; or what magic they could. Subira was trying to see what was going on despite knowing she couldn't. The act meant that she would end up moving her head as it was worked on. "We should get Eurig to grow his hair out too!" She giggled at the thought. To see her little brother with long hair like their mother's would be a sight. Likely she'd have to keep village girls away from him since they would likely want to braid it all the time. Okay, so the idea was funny but maybe not such a good one.

"Hey, stop it! If you don't stop twisting around like that you'll make it all lumpy." Ujana paused long enough to flick the tip of her daughter's ear before going back to her work. It took a long of concentration and maneuvering to get the shorter dreads to do her bidding; something the curious teenager didn't seem to understand.
"If he did he would look a lot like your grandfather." She supposed she should have said 'his' grandfather, but Ujana didn't play that way. From day one she'd told Uquin he had two grandchildren; one she'd carried in her belly, and one she hadn't. He wasn't...exactly the most chipper about it, though she couldn't tell if it was because A) his granddaughter was a full blooded alk or B) she'd had a child out of wedlock with someone she wasn't even staying with anymore.
It was a wonder he hadn't killed over yet.
When she put the final ring in Subira's hair, Ujana fluffed out the ends and nudged the girl towards the full length mirror she kept on the far end of the room. "Go on, tell me what you think."
