Raven had never been more happy to see her house than she was when they finally got home. She took a good twenty minutes walking around the place and checking the phone, grimacing at the amount of messages from Jetts mom that ranged from worried, to almost amused, to angry, to threats about her bringing the wrath of a wronged mother down on them if they had gone and eloped.
She sighed and flopped down on their bed, relishing the feel of the sheets and the blanket and sighed again, tossing her phone down and away from her. “Hey Jett? Can you come here?” She figured that he would have gotten the same messages, perhaps even more from his mother…since she was his mother, and she also knew that he was hungry and wanted a burger…but the idea of going out anywhere utterly repulsed her right now.
Maybe he would be okay with just ordering pizza tonight and they could go out another time…that sounded like a much better plan to her at least. “Seriously, come here. I need to talk to you.”

Jett was still pacing when Raven called him; he looked thoroughly disinterested in his phone and yet still had it plastered to his face. He was massaging the bridge of his nose while he listened to his mother nag at them about being irresponsible when he walked into the room, replying with, “Yeah, babe?”
There was a part of him that figured he should call his mother tonight and let her know that they were fine, but in twenty minutes he’d made it through less than half of her voicemails and he still had fourteen from her and three from his boss, and more from a long list of everyone else.
He wasn’t going to deal with it tonight. Instead, he removed his phone from his face and held down the power button before he tossed the phone on the dresser next to him. He wanted a shower, and food, but Raven was more important to him than any of those things—and if she needed to talk about something, seriously, naturally he was going to be there.
He flopped down on the bed next to her and released a long, tired sigh as his muscles relaxed and as he sank into the blankets. “What’s up?”
He wouldn’t be up for very long if they stayed in bed like this. He’d left Mirrorspace in one piece but it had weighed heavily on him. His hand found hers and he laced fingers before he rolled his head so he could see her.

It was so good not to have to hide. That had been perhaps the worst thing about being gone was hiding their relationship for so long. Pretending that they were nothing more than cordial strangers…not being able to talk or be together unless it was done in secret…it was nerve wracking.
Her hand curled around his and Raven sighed happily, drawing his hand closer and kissing each knuckle. “I’ve missed this, number one. Number two, I know that you want burgers, and I’m sorry…but I kind of don’t want to leave the house tonight…not even to get Chloe, if we’re being perfectly honest…could we just…’get home’ tomorrow perhaps? We can get burgers then and tonight we can stay in and order a pizza?”
Because she was just…more than ready to eat food and not…not rocks.
“Third…I don’t know if I want to do that again. For a while. A long while. Maybe even forever. That was about…fifteen different types of hot messes and…I’m exhausted.” She kissed his hand again, pondering her words for the next item she wanted to discuss, and finally she just sighed, rolling over with as much dramatic flare that she could muster. “I want you to do something else for me too. I need a break. A nice. Long break. So. Why don’t you put a baby in me, okay? That was so nice. Not being able to power up…it was so relaxing and, I want more of that.”

Jett was so ready to argue that he would find some burger place that delivered, or bribe some working a hundred bucks to make the drop, but food was the last thing from his mind by the time she finished speaking. They were on the same page about missing this, about not wanting to leave home, but her third thing…
He squeezed her hand tighter and propped himself up on his elbows, looking at her for a split second while he tried to debate if she was joking or not.
At first, he was trying to figure out if she was just eager to blow off some steam and enjoy an empty house without a needy little daughter—but there was something more to what she was saying. He blinked and leaned in closer; his eyes darted to her stomach and then her face. “Another kid?” he asked after a second. It wasn’t something he’d thought about before—it wasn’t something he’d dreamed of.
It wasn’t something he realized he wanted until she proposed it.
“You want one?” There was almost undeniable excitement in his voice. He had grown up an only child, for the most part—and so had she. They’d turned out fine, but there was a part of him that wouldn’t have minded a son. Or even just a playmate for Chloe. He didn’t know how long she’d been planning it, or if it was an instinctive thing, but he knew that once Raven made up her mind, she was set on it, and the more he thought about it, the more he thought he liked it.
Their parents would like it. Their wallets, maybe not so much, but they were both doing well and if they were going to have another kid, they’d still be close enough in age to Chloe that they’d grow up together.
A more perfect family than the one he’d been born into.

Raven hadn’t expected this type of reaction from him. She hadn’t expected it, but she was utterly and completely delighted by it. “Yeah, I really would like another baby. I…I don’t know. I didn’t think you’d be so excited for this. I was just kind of saying it so I wouldn’t have to get involved in anything weird like that for another nine months or so…but…”
She swallowed, her eyes sparkling with more excitement than she had shown in quite some time. “But, I’m really, really seriously serious about this. I would love for Chloe to have a sister or brother to play with…besides. Isn’t that always the goal? Married with two point five children and you’re suddenly successful?”
Already Raven could see it, a house with not one, but two little pitter pattering sets of feet running around. Christmas would have twice as many smiling and giggling humans enjoying it.
“I really want it, Jett. So…put a baby in me. Maybe if we can give your mom another grandchild, she won’t be too angry at us for disappearing…we’ll have to think of a good excuse to tell her…tomorrow. Oh! We can say we went out of the country…maybe like, a romantic beach getaway? I don’t know…”
But it didn’t matter. Only he mattered right now. Not even the thought of food could distract her for more than a few moments at a time, and with a little grin, the blonde leaned forward, kissing Jett’s lips. “I love you.”

Jett returned the kiss readily but when they parted he couldn’t help but point out, “Mom’s going to be angry at us, anyway. We’ll have to come up with something really creative. I only made it through half of my voicemails, and…”
Truthfully, he wasn’t sure he was going to be able to come up with a good enough excuse by tomorrow.
“Plus, a baby’ll take too long to make her forgive us any time soon. We should tell her about the cruise, though. About the wedding.”
He was tired and sore; his bones cracked as he moved to straddle her. He kept one hand gripping hers and used his free hand to comb his fingers through his hair before he leaned down to give her another kiss.
“…We’ll have to do that as soon as we can,” he mused between each little peck he planted on her lips. “If I recall, you weren’t a fan of the idea of wearing your wedding dress and showing off a bump at the same time. But I’m sure mom will forgive us if you tell her you want her to help you pick out the wedding dress?”

Honestly she couldn’t believe how easy it had been to convince Jett to have another child, and the thought was overwhelmingly fantastic. Raven returned the kiss and shrugged, grinning up at him when he straddled her. “Well, your mom loves me, I’m sure we’ll be able to think of something when we put our heads together…”
And other things. They would be putting plenty of other things together tonight as well, so of course some idea would come…and tomorrow they would grovel and snuggle their beautiful daughter and hug their beautiful dog, and life would go on.
She returned the next kiss with a bit more passion and laughed as he began pecking at her like some silly chicken, talking between each kiss. “I shouldn’t have too much of a bump by December…besides, I really don’t care anymore. I want to marry you more than anything, and I want to have this baby more than anything, and one is not going to stop the other from happening.”

For a short moment, Jett just looked down at Raven fondly. He had known her for years—he had loved her for years, but the more time they spent together, the more he loved her. They’d had rocky moments and times where he didn’t know what their future held, but looking into her eyes now he didn’t have any doubt.
It didn’t matter if he was tired or hungry or aching.
The only thing that mattered was that he had her.
They could order pizza later; for now, all he could think about was her.
