The 'team building exercise' Oliver had been signed up for hadn't taken as long as he had expected, and that left him with some free time. One item on his list of things to do with that time was to check in with friends he hadn't seen since getting back from off-island duty, and Finn was one who was surprisingly difficult to run into.

He was almost to his own room when he thought to check upstairs. If Finn was in, maybe there would be a moment or two to catch up. And if not... well, it was only one staircase away from his own room and video games.

Oliver hesitated for a second at the door, the bag of heart-shaped cinnamon cookies from the event in one hand. Then he knocked, hoping Finn was there.

It seemed that in this case, Finn was still not actually in his room.

But that was because he was looming up behind Oliver in the hallway, having been walking behind him for quite some time now, but not saying anything, because he had been lost in his own thoughts, mulling over something rather important, and it was only when he had come back into focus did he notice the younger man standing outside of his door.

His hand lifted and came down on Oliver's shoulder.

"Hey." He said, and waited for the other man to turn around, his voice sounding a bit frayed and tired. "What do you need?"

Oliver was as easily startled as ever, but his own reaction to Finn's appearance was probably the most surprising part of it all.

"Finn! I missed you!" He squeaked, and then gave the man a tight hug. It wasn't just the absence of his close friends that boiled down to that uncharacteristic gesture, Oliver hadn't even greeted Aro with that level of outward affection. Somehow he was just... overcome with the need to express how much he cared.

Almost as soon as he realized what he had done, Oliver jerked back timidly, blushing brightly. "A-ah, s-sorry..."

".........."

The moon hunter was, for once, rendered absolutely speechless as arms closed around him in an incredibly surprising and wholly unwanted hug. It had taken Finn completely off guard, and that, combined with him being absolutely beat, was perhaps the only reason Oliver didn't find himself shoved violently into the nearest wall.

Luckily for the younger man, he released Finn just in time to avoid an unfortunate fate, though he was still given a bewildered look.

"You...missed me." He repeated back to Oliver, voice dry, and automatically suspicious as he drew back, straightening his shoulders, eye narrowing.

"What the ******** is wrong with you?"

Oliver looked stricken at the response, and even more confused. He hadn't expected Finn to be in such a bad mood, but he hadn't expected himself to launch into a hug either.

"I... I d-don't know, I didn't mean... I'm so sorry..." The freckled young man stammered, taking a step back. Finn had asked a very important question, but it was hard to focus on his own state of mind when all he wanted was to reassure his friend that there was no need to worry about him. Finn looked tired, worn too thin, and Oliver felt an overwhelming desire to help however he could.

"A-are you okay? Um..." In his confusion the best he could do was stare at Finn with big eyes almost begging to be told what to do.

Oh jesus, Oliver was giving him that beaten puppy look and Finn, despite all actions that proved otherwise, did actually have the capacity to feel bad.

Which he now did. <********>.

He closed his eye, counted, slowly, in his head, and tried to relax. Oliver had always been a bit...needy. Not usually the hugging type, but he was just a nice kid. Was it really that strange?

"Just don't do it again." He sighed, eye opening, a hand lifting to rake fingers through hair. "It's ******** weird."

As for the rest of it, Finn shrugged his shoulders, and moved past Oliver to his door. "Just tired. Not much new, there."

It was a tense couple seconds for Oliver, waiting to see if everything was okay, but he was relieved that Finn didn't suddenly hate him or anything.

"I-I won't, um, I don't think I will... It is kinda weird..." He admitted, and meant it. It was weird. Oliver was starting to feel like his emotions were getting the better of him, stringing him along on some sort of bizarre adventure he had not consented to. Yet even the realization wasn't enough to shake himself free of the phenomenon.

"Is now a bad time?" He asked quickly, "I-is there anything I can do? To help out or anything?"

"No, not kinda. It is." Finn corrected, while fishing out his keys for the locked door.

With the door unlocked, he pushed it open, and looked back towards Oliver with a raised brow.

"You came to my door. You can help me by either telling me what it is that you want, or by going away. Either would suit me just fine."

"I-I just... ah, wanted to say hi," Oliver stammered, glancing down towards the floor while his cheeks turned slightly pink. His fingers crinkled the cellophane bag of heart-shaped cookies. "I was off the island for a couple months, I thought... I thought it would be nice to talk again..."

He shook his head slightly, a little distracted as he tried to sort through all the strange feelings. "I-it sounds like a bad time, um... I should go..."

Except he didn't go, he just lingered looking confused and lost.

Huh. Had it really been that long? Finn found himself staring off somewhere over Oliver's shoulder while he processed this new dose of information, and blinked once, slowly.

"s**t, two months? Really?" Well, now he did actually feel a little bit bad. God damn, Oliver.

"You don't have to go. Come in, have a drink, we can--" He gestured behind him by jerking his thumb back over his shoulder. "Play some games, I guess. Just chill out for a bit. It might be...nice."

The way he said it suggested that he wasn't convinced that it would be, but hey, he could give over-tired gaming a go.

Judging by the fact that the room behind him was dark, it seemed that Ripley wasn't around, anyways. Turning, he slipped the keys back into his pocket with a jangle, and went into the room, leaving the door open as he just assumed Oliver would follow, and he flicked on the lights.

Oliver nodded. He was not an incredibly loud or visible individual to begin with, spending long hours working alone in the labs even when he had been on the island, so Finn hadn't hurt his feelings by failing to keep track of his presence. Instead, he was strangely elated that his friend had agreed to the visit after all.

"I-if you're tired, um, I can get you a drink? Is there anything I can help with? Food or snacks?" He asked, at that moment wanting nothing more than to be a helpful presence. Without thinking, he set the bag of cookies down on the nearest table.

"Just go get the game ready to go." He suggested, a little gruffly, while he made his way to the small kitchenette area of his shared room, opening a cupboard that appeared to be designated for bottles of alcohol only. With a bottle of whiskey soon in hand followed by a glass from another cupboard, Finn was turning to move towards the table.

"There's coke in the fridge." Not for himself, obviously. He didn't usually drink that sugary s**t, and loathed mixing it into his premium whiskey, but it was there for the occasional visitor that might stop by.

He set the glass down and eyed the bag that Oliver had left there.

"What's this?" He asked, nodding down towards it while pouring his drink.

Oliver scrambled to do as he was asked, booting up the TV and console with familiar ease. Even after being away for a couple months he still knew where to find everything, all the remotes and controllers, and soon had a two player zombie shooter loading up.

"What's what?" The freckled young man peeked over. "Oh those? Cookies, from the team-building thing I got signed up for. I'm not sure what to do with them..." he trailed off in a distracted way as the game asked which save to load. Game ready to go was priority number one. The fate of tasty but questionable cookies wasn't quite as important.

Finn was already taking a sip of his drink when Oliver answered him. Cookies? He reached over and plucked the bag open, peering inside with a tilt of his head, the faint scent of cinnamon permeating the air.

The moon hunters stomach rumbled, and it occurred to the man that he hadn't actually eaten anything throughout the entire day, and now, he was starving.

"What team building thing?" He asked, while slipping his hand into the bag, not bothering to ask if he could have any, and pulling out one of the cookies, a frown creasing his features.

There, game was all loaded up.

Oliver took a seat on the floor with his back resting against the couch, cookies completely forgotten.

"I'm not sure, it was, um... a whole bunch of people and we talked about stuff in pairs. I'm not sure who signed me up for it, but uh... It was kind of nice, I guess."
