Elsa had been the one on her mind. Elsa had been the one beside her the whole time. The one she was counting on. The one she had always counted on. When she had managed to pull herself out of whatever stupor that the mirror her had managed to create, she had been utterly overjoyed to see that her brother was not dead after all. And when they had gotten out of there…she had gone to him and pulled him away, held him as close as she dared to, not knowing just how badly he was hurt.
Worse than her, she was sure…but there was nothing she could do about that. Other than take him somewhere that could help.
The new area they had unlocked…the nonsense with the crystals…she was too tired to care. That was something for another day, something she would deal with later…for now…she had to focus on her brother.
It took only a moment for Chione to turn back to Lavender when they reached the city once more and with a sigh she looked towards her twin. “Hey…I…I think we should go to the hospital and get checked out…I mean…I’m sure everyone’s going to have that idea…and I think we should…not go to the main one…how about the smaller one near your place, we could just…say we got mugged? It’s believable…we’re two attractive young people…and I just…I want to get my ribs checked out…I think I might have broken one…”
She didn’t actually think that, of course…but she had to make him feel that he was going for her. It would make him feel much more macho.

Elsa knew his thread of consciousness was a thin one. Kibirev had gotten him back on his feet, but it still hadn't been pretty. (He would have to check on her later. Make sure she was okay.) He was mostly silent as they staggered through the big mirror and to this strange new place -- he'd figure it out later, for now he just wanted to go home.
So he clung to Chione when he found her, leaning on her shoulder and talking as little as possible because his throat hurt like hell.
As soon as they were out, he powered down, leaning on her heavily with a brief twinge of guilt.
"Uh," he croaked. Her suggestion did sound reasonable, and honestly he probably needed it more than he wanted to admit, and if his sister might be hurt? No way would he hold off going. If it was just him, he probably would have staggered home and worried about it another day, but it wasn't. "Yeah, let's. Go, definitely. The little one will be best." He looked around. "Not far anyway."

Lavender let out the breath she had been holding, very glad that Levi hadn’t fought her suggestion. “Yeah…not very far away at all. We’ll be fine…they’ll fix us up and you and me will be back to hardly seeing and talking to each other in no time…” Her mind was already working in double time to figure out the best lies to feed the doctors…would they really even need lies? Surely in a city such as this one they were used to young people coming in with all sorts of terrible injuries.
She figured it wouldn’t cause that much of a ruckus. But if it did…well. That would be something to deal with when they got there.
Luckily she had been right and not too many questions were asked. It was a while before she was reunited with Levi, but eventually the two were placed in the same room, having both been admitted. Although for Lavender it was nothing more than a ‘precaution’, but she was thankful to be staying with her brother.
After a moment, she glanced over to the bed next to her. “…How bad did they say you were, Levi? Are you going to live, or should I start planning to scatter your ashes around your apartment?”

Levi wanted to laugh, but he couldn't quite manage it. Instead, he gave Lav a wry smile and let her lead him away.
He was far more familiar with hospitals than he ought to be; all the checks and procedures were almost routine, and getting all his cuts bandaged and bruises checked and ice for his throat. Since he could still breathe and talk, sort of, it was judged not overly serious, but he was given something for the pain and asked to stay for observation, and...at least he'd be sharing a room with Lav.
"Unfortunately for you," he croaked, giving his sister a wry smile, "they say I'm gonna live. How about you? Am I gonna have to deliver the tragic news?"

“Well, Damn.” Lavender shot her brother a grin and fell back against the bed as gently as she could, while still being as over dramatic as possible. It was a mistake but hey. She learned. She was quiet for a long while, or at least it felt like a long while before the rest of her brother’s question finally penetrated past her own thoughts. “What? Oh, no, I’m alive too. Don’t worry your pretty little head about that. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, Lee. Seriously. I’m not going anywhere.”
She grew quiet again, diving back into her newly sharpened chaotic thoughts and chewed on her bottom lip before sighing. “So…That uh. Those copies of ourselves…they were more fun than a barrel of monkeys, weren’t they? What…what did yours say to you? Because…I don’t know. I kind of feel like maybe mine had some valid points that I should be considering.”
It sounded so stupid to say, but the things that had been spoken…were honestly bothering her to the point where that pain was worse than her physical ailments. “I just…I know I should just forget it, but…I don’t know.”

Levi didn't want to admit what a relief it was to hear that Lavender was okay. That entire ******** of a fight could have gone really, really bad in about a thousand different ways, and...it was just good to know his sister had made it out intact.
He blinked, briefly, when she brought up the copies. That had been...disconcerting, to say the least, though his had only done so much taunting before going for a much more effective method of taking him out. He chewed on the inside of his cheek. "That I'm too stupid to know when I'm beat, that I'll keep fighting even when I'm losing." He exhaled, glancing away from her. "It. Wasn't wrong."
He knew himself too well to say anything else.
"What about yours? What's it got stuck in your head?" Whatever it was, it was clearly pretty bad, if she was turning it over like this.

She watched her brother for a long moment, trying to think of how to bring her thoughts up. “Well. I suppose…Mine just…Well, To be fair, I thought you were dead, so she was rubbing that in my face so…that didn’t help matters. But…” Lavender slumped deeper into her pillows and sighed, her eyes staring at one of the bright fluorescent lights. “She was saying how Acubens didn’t care because I was…and I quote…I think. ‘You’re nothing to her but another cog in the wheel. A project that she doesn’t have to worry about anymore.’ And like, I know that…shouldn’t be true? But…I don’t know. She kept leaving me, Levi. And it just…it sucked. It feels like she got what she wanted with me powering up again, and I got left in the dust because…I have no idea why? And then the few times we did manage to talk a little, she just made me feel guilty for her leaving me? I can’t even explain it but…”
The heart rate monitor that Lavender was still hooked up to began to beep at a much quicker pace as she worked herself up thinking about everything, and when she grumbled and took the device off of her finger and the machine flat lined, she belatedly realized that had been a stupid decision and stuck it back on. “I’m not dead. Stupid hospital.”
With a sigh, she looked over to her brother again. “But…I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m nothing but another body for the court…and that makes me feel like s**t but…I don’t know. Am I overreacting, do you think?”

Levi swallowed guiltily. He'd kind of thought he was dead, all things considered. But even putting that aside, he wasn't sure he liked what he was hearing about Acubens. That wasn't the way he wanted to hear about a girlfriend making his sister feel.
"Someone who's supposed to love you shouldn't be leaving you behind," he said. "Especially not in a situation like that." He frowned, hard. "You deserve better than someone who makes you feel like a project she's done with." He bit back an offer to fight Rhona for her, because really, if anyone was capable of fighting her own battles, it was Lavender.
"I don't think you're overreacting," he said gently. "I think that if you decide to never power up again, you'll still be my sister and I'll still love you." He wanted to get up and give her a hug, but he was connected to far too many machines for that. "I think that I love being Elsa, but if you don't love being Chione? That's okay."

Lavender sighed, rubbing at her eyes, seeming quite tired. “I mean. She’s not here. Is she. Why would she bother to see if you and I were okay? Why would she bother letting me know that she was okay. How stupid am I to think that someone who’s supposed to be dating me gives a damn if I’m dead or if they’re dead. I…I think I’m going to just not bother texting her or calling her. If she’s alive. Cool. If not. Well. I’ll find out eventually. But if she wants to talk to me, she can ******** text me first.”
She let out a grunt of annoyance and forcefully fell back once more against the thin mattress. “I love being Chione. That’s not even my issue anymore. I’ve…gotten used to it, and I love the way I feel when I’m Chione…especially now that I’m stronger…it’s…it’s really nice. And spending time with you makes it about five hundred times better. So…that’s not…the issue.”
Sighing, Lavender closed her eyes, feeling as though she had run a few marathons and the exhaustion was finally catching up to her. “I...She’s the problem. Not me.”

Levi nodded. "If she can't be bothered to let you know she got out of there okay, ******** her." He gestured as broadly as he could, hooked up to monitors. God, the more Lavender talked, the more he wanted to go find Acubens and scream in her face a little.
But, no. This wasn't his fight.
"I'm glad to hear that," he said, and he meant it. "I...being Elsa hasn't always been easy, but it's a lot easier when I know I can look left and my sister will be there, covering my back." He exhaled.
"She is the problem. You're smart and cool and man this is way more being nice to you than I've budgeted for like, a year."

Giving a small chuckle, Lavender nodded. “And I’ll always be there watching your back, even if you’ve stopped being nice to me until next year, if that’s the case, I’ll just ‘forget’ to get you something this year for your birthday. Our birthday.” She shrugged and gave another laugh. “Or we could just be the good siblings that we used to be. I’m okay with that, too you know. I love you a lot, Levi. And I’m glad you’re around.
She could focus better when he was around…and with all of this…stuff going on…she needed to focus.
Plus. She knew that so long as she had her brother…she’d never be alone.
