It had been... months since the ball and his first meeting with Mr. Black and his lovely companion, Ms. Stratford, but that didn't mean Trey had forgotten, or that he didn't fully intend to follow through on his invitation.
Between his busy schedule and theirs, not to mention his mother's, it wasn't until September that he was able to send them a formal invitation to the boutique. Now, finally, he opened the doors of Viennent Du Coeur to his guests with a warm and welcoming smile and a bow of his dark head.
"Please, come in. Welcome to our shop. I'm pleased you were able to make it." He said as he held one of the glass doors wide, the light of the modern pendant lamps inside glinting off the facets and burnished metal. "Can I get you something to drink? I have a bottle of Bollinger Special Cuvée chilled, if you'd like something bubbly, or an '09 Cos Contrada."
Inside the shop, the dark hardwood floors gleamed, setting off the white leather furniture nicely. A rack of clothes had pride of place in the back, before a set of angled mirrors beside the changing rooms. No other customers were present, but Trey had made sure to clear the shop for a private event before hand. He'd expected a least a little resistance from his mother about it, but she'd been unusually accommodating... and he had no desire to look that 'gift horse' in the mouth.
Gone was the rich blue suit he'd worn to the gala and in it's place, navy slacks rested comfortably around his hips below a pinstriped shirt and vest, a dark tie at his neck and the sleeves rolled up his tanned forearms. Trey had opted for comfortable today, and rather than down in it's thick braid his hair was up in a heavy bun.

Shopping was not one of the things that Chase Black particularly enjoyed, but the opportunity to network (and assess) with lucrative company wasn't something he could simply pass up. Not when he had already decided that Trey was someone that he wanted to eye for other endeavors. Besides, his girlfriend was one who enjoyed trying on fancy dresses and being showered in gifts to make up for the things that he couldn't quite control but she attempted to hold over him anyway.
It rarely worked, but he thought he could entertain both Trey and Prissy's whimsy for one afternoon.
"I'm glad we could find a time that worked for both of us," Chase's low voice said with a careful, polite smile. He appeared to consider the options before ultimately looking over at the girlfriend by his side, his arm slung across her back with a possessive grip on her hip. "What do you think Priss?" The pinkette would stay in a better mood if he kept falling back to her about opinions.
Chase was dressed as he almost always was when he went out, a dress shirt and slacks. There was no tie this time, he couldn't handle them longer than necessary and while it was important to look sharp, it wasn't an overtly formal event. Still, he probably spent more time than necessary looking the man over.

"Whichever is lighter, please - I admit that I have quite the sweet tooth."
Hips sashayed their way past the glass door, the warm hand of her accompanying companion soon tugging her close as if silently reminding her of who she came with. Prissy didn't need reminding - often - but was currently content to sidle alongside the man responsible for her inclusion in this happy little gathering.
Rose eyes were quick to devour the shop around them. Faure-Cameron's line had always been gorgeous and the fact she was getting a personal sneak peek into a private viewing was like Christmas come early to the young fashionista. Let the men discuss business ventures - she was here for the view.
"I would say that Mister Cameron here has impeccable taste when it comes to decorating." One hand moved up, toying with the pearl necklace she'd added as a last minute addition to her simple day dress. Eyes cast a glance over to Trey, offering the handsome man a generous smile. "Or should we thank Joellen for that?"

"Bollinger it is then." Trey swept towards the seating in the back, his steps light and lanky as he dropped down from the step up to the door. He waved a hand at the leather divans as he passed.
"Please, make yourself comfortable. I'm afraid I can't take credit for the decor. Joelle hired a designer to get the most out of the space, though you can be sure she made her own tastes known. I like it well enough, for a retail space." He said, half turned back before he slipped through a side doorway. Whatever he was going for seemed to be not far beyond that because he was back quickly with a bucket and a bottle, a trio of flutes for the sparkling white wine. He waved them towards the waiting clothes. "The left half of the rack is a selection of our available styles. The right is some of the unreleased designs we plan to introduce over the next month or two, in time for the holidays. Joellen didn't specifically say I couldn't show them to you, so I don't see a reason why an early sneak peak could hurt."
He offered Priscilla his best mischievous smile for that and the ice in the stainless steel rattled as he set it down on a marble top table decked with a bouquet of Calla lilies in a tall vase. His attention turned to the bottle as he pulled a corkscrew from his back pocket and worked the wine open. It popped softly as the cork was freed and he hurriedly held it over one of the glasses as golden wine bubbled out the top.
When three bubbling flutes were filled, he brought them to his two guests with light fingers around the stems, offering them out with a tamer, relaxed smile.
"I have some heels in the boxes over there, if you'd like to see how some of the outfits work with different styles."

While the exchange passed between his girlfriend and their hose, Chase's fingers pressed more firmly into the pinkette's side. He knew where her loyalties lay, but instinct felt pressed to remind her of the one simple fact; she was his. Whiskey eyes took in the decor the chattered on about and he found himself wondering if this was the type of decor his mother would have like for one of her events.
"Find out who she used," Chase called as Trey slipped away, his tone authoritative as if he was speaking to an underling and he had to force himself to soften the demand, "would you?"
Most days it was difficult to separate Chase from the general and today was a perfect example of that. Finding himself a seat, he forced himself to relax more as the wine was provided and Prissy was busy perusing the line. He had little to no interest in the newest fashion, but he appreciated the value of what such connections would bring.
Chase found himself mildly impressed by the lengths Trey was going to in order to earn himself from favor. It was a smart work around the rules and he knew that he wanted to push the man to test his capabilities.
"I mentioned a memorial for my mother at the gala, would you be able to secure some of the newer lines for part of it?"

Eyes grew even wider at the mention of unreleased designs, Prissy clearly distracted from both her boyfriend's possessive grip and the sudden pop of the bottle's cork. If Trey hadn't stepped forward with the flutes, she might have bypassed him entirely for the beautiful clothing tempting her in the distance.
Offering a half curtsy, she took the flute from her host and made her way directly to the right - while the available styles were gorgeous and flawless in their own rights, Prissy was there for the VIP treatment - anyone could google the available, but only a select, chosen few got to see the new releases before they went public.
Sipping lightly on her drink, she ensured a proper distance between glass and fabric as her free hand moved to browse through the racks. The men continued to prattle on about... well, whatever they were prattling on about, she had better things to focus on.
It wasn't until Trey mentioned the heels that her head turned back towards the duo. Wait.. heels, in the box? Did that mean...? Was he going to let her...?
The level of giddiness Prissy had reached was impossible to suppress and she made her way back towards the two nicely dressed men. "Do you mean....may I some of them on?"
She almost came close to fluttering her lashes at their host to seal the deal but she rather liked Chase's jovial mood and thought better of it. So instead, she simply offered her best hopeful, wide-eyed look while extending out her flute towards her boyfriend to keep hold of for her.

The demand in the other man's voice pulled an immediate desire to reply in the affirmative, something Trey found surprising after the initial urge. It was, of course, a natural request and something he would have given without the tone, but the thought wandered; would he have felt the same response if Chase had demanded he jump up and down?
It was his conditioning, he supposed, as he surrendered the glasses he held. A tug of his slacks at the hip and he folded his long form onto the couch beside Chase's seat. He had grown up hopping to whenever his mother crooked her finger, was it such a surprise he did it when someone else called with that same voice?
"I have the comany's number on file, I can pull that for you before you leave." Trey's fingers reached to tuck strands of purple hair back behind his ears where they had fallen free, shifting his own glass from one hand to the other as he watched Priscilla browse the clothes with every indication of delight. "I will run the idea past Joellen, but I don't see any reason why she would refuse to let you showcase some of her designs. By spring she should be ready to make her next release, and at the least, its a good event to debut them with... but I think she'd do it to honor your mother anyway."
Trey's practice smile appeared as Priscilla came dancing back to them, all but aglow with delight. It even pulled a soft laugh from him as he fluttered his fingers at the clothes.
"Of course. I had to guess at your size, but seeing clothes on a wrack lacks something of the full effect of seeing them on a person. I thought you might enjoy them more than our planning talk." He said. The glass in his hand tilted, pale liquid swirling around it. "Anything you like, I can set aside and have sent over once they're cleared for release. What's the good of knowing someone on the inside if you can't get in before the regular crowd, hmm?"
There was an ease to being here in familiar surroundings that he hadn't felt in the glitz and shine of the gala. He didn't have to worry about competing with other guests, or the watchful eye of his mother on him at all times. It brought out a sort of relaxation he hadn't had before, though the graceful cover he affected never really fully fell away.

Chase's own grip on the glass was careful, wrist moving in a circle to watch the liquid shift as he listened to the man sitting beside him. Trey's fingers moved to tuck hair back and Chase lifted his glass to his lips, the drink sitting on his tongue for a moment before he swallowed and lowered it down, closer to his lap.
"If you would." He replied and that was the end of that conversation as far as he was concerned. Either Trey would remember and please him or he would forget it and it would set the stage for the rest of their relationship. Either way, Chase was content to observe for the time being. Most of his attention remained on the man beside him but every now and then his attention would return to the pinkette who looked more delighted than he'd seen her in some time.
"I would hope that she would be willing," he started, another sip taken from his glass before the weight of his gaze settled on Trey. "It would be rather disappointing if you couldn't follow through." The way he said it implied he had expectations, high ones. Even as Prissy demanded attention, he was focused on the man.
"It was a good thing you convinced me to attend the gala don't you think Prissy?" He asked, barely glancing at her even as he reached for her hip to tug her towards him.

The tug was unexpected, the offered glass nearly tipping as Priscilla Stratford used all of her years of etiquette training and manners courses to keep the flute from spilling onto either her day dress or her boyfriend.
She soon came toppling down, nestled securely on the other side of her boyfriend as her frazzled expression was quick to smooth itself out. Aid from the bubbly drink still in her hand had her biting her tongue - while she'd have loved to try on the gowns, they'd come to view and if that's what Chase was insisting they'd do, she'd comply. Begrudgingly.
Offering the rack of clothing a forlorn look, she swallowed the alcohol and cleared her throat, turning back to the two gentlemen to her side. One hand slid its way across her companion's leg while her smile beamed brightly. Pink nails playfully dug into the fabric in search of his actual leg, as if to silently vocalize her unspoken irritation.
"Can you believe that he almost missed the event? And here we would have missed out on such a lovely invitation," pink curls turned as eyelashes finished batting in Trey's direction, moving to Chase's, "See - I told you that I have a good idea once in a while."

So, Prissy was to stay with them. The tug, the flash of annoyance, had Trey wondering, quietly and internally, if this was a normal thing for them, or if this was all for his benefit. Was Chase so possessive he was unwilling to let his girlfriend wander out of arm's reach in a strange place? Did this hint at... unsavory things in their personal life?
There was no way to know on such short acquaintance and while inner-Trey might feel a hint of concern over it, surface-Trey, well used to and trained in social graces, pushed it aside and suggested they forget they saw anything of the sort. It wasn't his business, was it? He barely even knew them. But it was something to file away to keep an eye on, if their acquaintance kept on.
Too bad for Prissy, being stuck on the couch with them meant she'd have to bear up through probably a boring conversation of who's and what's and how's... but again, not really any of his business.
"I hope to leave you pleasantly surprised with my reliability and tenacity." He said with an inclination of his head and a smile that tugged up the corner of his mouth. "I should hate to every disappoint."
"I attend most of those sorts of events mostly for the networking purpose, like this. Its good business, getting to know people." He said as he offered a more genuine smile to Prissy's teasing. "More than just the attendees, its also a good chance to sample the venue, the caterer, the music... I tend to send a note around to whomever puts on those events for a recommendation to whomever they used, if they're any good. I've built up a nice little black book for myself, which I think will come in handy for your purposes. I should say that its me who's lucky you attended... a charitable event like this is a good way to stretch myself, out from under Joellen's watchful eye."

Chapped lips brushed her temple before he had himself uncurling. His hand rested on the furniture he was sitting on instead of his girlfriend's hip. It was too easy to fall into familiar habits of keeping the pinkette close by.
He was simply Chase here and while the buzzing beneath his skin never truly went away he was better in control of himself. He didn't need to so heavily rely upon the woman for anchoring.
Eventually he shifted, elbows coming to press against the tops of his knees with his fingers folding together when he leaned forward. Chase's gaze leveled itself with Trey's and he didn't bother to look elsewhere when he spoke.
"I would hate it if you disappointed as well." The words were said calmly enough, but there was a hint of warning in the way he smiled without teeth. It didn't quite reach his eyes. "My father used to insist I attend such events for the same reasons." Though that had been half a decade ago at this point. Afterwards, he had attended in the company of his mother, because the aging woman had been someone he was incapable of saying no to.
"Handy, certainly, though I'm more interested in the man behind the little black book of information. Working with me for something in my mother's honor will get you some exposure, without Joellen's influence."

Upon being released from her significant other's grip, she pursed her lips and wrinkled her nose at being essentially dismissed from the conversation as Chase turned to begin his... whatever it was, that he tended to do. He was good with his tongue, he knew how to schmooze and when it came to things other than her (like boring old business talk), she left him to his own devices.
The hmph she let out was too soft to be heard, manicured fingers reaching over to her satchel to pull out a few things. While her mirror assured her that her makeup was still as lovely as ever, she made a point to touch it up in parts while the two men did their discussing.
It had been tempting to bring out her phone and begin texting, but she wasn't some uncultured hooligan in some two-star restaurant. There was a time and a place for electronics - she would simply primp as the boys did their talking, full well knowing that whatever Chase wanted....
.... well, poor Trey had better supply, less he make himself a formidable foe in the world of the rich and the elite, Joellen's prodigy or not.

Chase leaned forward and Trey found himself the focus of a rather intense gaze. It wasn't like anything had been overtly said or done, but he felt pinned suddenly, and probed in a way he hadn't been prepared for. The result showed in the surprised on his face and the way he blinked a few times before he recovered and his fine features smoothed out.
The warning was taken, but didn't bare commenting about, so he shifted instead to the desire to know him, and what that possibly implied.
"I'm not a terribly complicated person." Trey said as he relaxed back into his seat, the greater distance he put between them helping to ease the weirdly intimate moment. "You can ask me anything you like. I'm Joellen's assistant and heir, I help run the shop and label, I interface with clients she doesn't have the time or inclination to meet. I network aggressively and I'm used to working with people of all types. She's trained me well."
He shrugged as he rolled his glass between his long fingers, bracing the heel of his hand on the knee he crossed over the other. It made his legs look longer as he stretched them out, opting for a relaxed look since this was supposed to be a informal affair.
"Outside of work I like to read and swim. I have a horse that I visit and ride often, though we don't compete any more. And I have a younger brother who dances with the ballet, so I attend as many of his performances as I can find time for."

Something akin to amusement flickered in his golden-eyed gaze as Trey tactfully answered his questions. He had been bred well, sculpted to the life of high society by a careful hand and Chase could already see what he could do with the man if he was given a chance to shape the pottery that sat atop Trey's spinning wheel.
The things the younger man shared were all things easily learned and Chase's quiet brooding seemed to imply that it wasn't enough. It showed in the shift of his jaw, the way his elbows moved to rest more firmly on his knees, and the way his gaze narrowed slightly.
"You'll have to let us know what company he dances with, we'd love to attend a performance."
Shifting, Chase straightened his back and tapped his thigh contemplatively. "We have other engagements to attend to, but I'll be in touch." When he turned to Prissy, his lips brushed her temple before he stood, smoothing out his pants. "I would like to get to know you better, perhaps we can arrange something more one on one...or more casual than this later."

Rising alongside her companion, she happily accepted his gentlemanly kiss before collecting what few belongings she brought with her, arranging them tactfully in her purse.
"I do love the ballet," she offered cheerfully, echoing her support, "I'll start looking for a new dress to wear to the next one."
If Chase's interest in getting to know Trey better sparked any concern in Priscilla, her face failed to show it. As well, whether or not she knew if anything lurked between the lines of Chase's comments also went unnoticed. Some things were better left a secret, after all.
Smiling, she looped her arm through her boyfriend's as they made their way towards the exit, dropping the flute of mostly finished champagne off on a nearby shelf along the way. Newly freed, her hand turned and offered the young man a small wave as she purred, "Hopefully we'll see you again soon, darling."
