...deep darkness...
...silence...
....roaring in the distance...
....booming thunder from the sky...
Dry skin and bright eyes, his back pulsed to life with vibration and claws dug into the stone. Knicknacks lined the walls for his absent attention, a facsimile of normal life on Earth. Music he couldn't listen to, no television, books he couldn't read due to lack of light. The pull of his General was felt in the distance, in his chest, pulling him forward.
Aching... hunger... a hole in the pit of his stomach...
There was a mirror on the wall, so dark and yet distinctive. He felt his form claw its way to the mirror, form indiscernible from the surrounding darkness. Stark, bright blue eyes opened to stare back at itself...
Julian awoke with a start, body covered in sweat, face covered in tears. He shook, alone and afraid, screaming the terror from deep within his soul. In his panic, Julian did not realize he was in the room Delilah gave to him, the soft blankets clinging to his damp skin. Hyperventilating, eyes dilated to dinner plates, he'd jammed himself into the corner of the room, trying to claw at the loose shirt he wore.

Her footsteps were quick on the ground as she covered the distance from her own bed towards his. By the time she threw open his door, one of her vases in hand, Delilah looked as if she was about ready to humanly maul whatever it was that could have been attacking Julian. Logically the raven haired woman knew they couldn't track them. As long as they didn't power up in the condo, they were safe from the Negaverse. They were safe from him... But that didn't stop the fear within the woman from forming that one night he would find them. That he would find them and try to reclaim what he believed to be his. Lord she needed a gun... Blinking as she looked around the room, the hall light flooding in behind her, Delilah realized two things: One, no one was in there. Two, where the heck was Julian... Her ears soon answered that question for her but not before her heart skipped a beat. Turning, Delilah gazed at the male and quickly felt everything about her soften. "Oh Jules" Delilah whispered, setting the vase down on the dresser and crossing the room quickly. She wore oversized gray pj pants and a cami that clear was made to be comfortable more than to fit her form. "It's okay." Delilah whispered, dropping as quickly as she could to his side, hands reaching out to try and wrap her fingers around his. "It's okay. I'm here...shhh." One hand released and went up to his head, even though the sweat she gentle stroked his silver hair. "Nothing's going to happen. I'm right here."

His mumbling was frenzied and incoherent when Delilah entered the room. The dream was so vivid, so terrifying that Julian was sure his skin felt dry and look mottled and he itched terribly. His form shook with adrenaline even as Delilah knelt to gently cradle his form. Eyes wild and breathing ragged, the young man didn't realize just who she was. Her gentle voice and the sound of her heart as he laid his head against her chest brought Julian back to reality. No, he was not blue, he was not mottled, he was not dry. Delilah was petting his hair, rocking him back and forth... ...what happened? Tears formed in his eyes as Julian realized he'd screamed himself awake and probably terrified Delilah. She was always there for him, and the guilt he felt was incredibly crushing. "...De... Delilah...?" he croaked, breathing slowing to something more manageable. He clung to her, sweat-soaked and shivering, as if she were the only solid thing in a windstorm. "...I'm... I'm so sorry... I'm sorry, Delilah... I'm so sorry..." Weeping, his shoulders shook out of fear and shame. He knew the neighbors might talk, Delilah might get in trouble with the condo association. She'd mentioned it before. Now he had to go and shriek in the middle of the night... "I love you, Delilah... I'm so sorry...."

"I love you too, Julian. There is no need to be sorry." Delilah cooed, holding him still close to her as he shivered against her form. On her chest, she could feel the slow tears he was beginning to cry. "A nightmare?" Leaning slightly, Delilah placed a soft kiss on his head. "It was just a dream Jules. Just a dream. Nothing can harm you. No one can get you." Slowly she began to rock at her hips to let try and relax him just a bit. "I won't let them get you." The last words were said as Delilah gazed out the window. Nightmares existed. She would never bring it up to Julian but to many, he had been that...a nightmare. But now he had them. Delilah, Mercy, Sitara, and Ginger. They would stop anyone from harming him. "I will always be right here."

Sobbing slowed to sniffles as Julian leaned heavily on Delilah. He was too energized and shaky to sleep so soon and was painfully aware of that. He had to keep himself awake a little bit longer so he wouldn't risk falling back into that din of nightmares. With the heel of his hand, Julian rubbed at his eyes. Delilah was right - it was just a dream, and he was incredibly lucky to have someone like Delilah keeping an eye on him. Someday, he would repay the favor. "Mmm... Delilah? Can... do you... do you... mind if... I have some ice c-cream? And maybe... maybe watch... the soap opera... on teevee? Just for... just for a little while..." His body still shook, ever so slightly, from the vivid sights and scents of the dream. It was so real, so heady and intense. Julian was still slightly swimming in it, one foot in this world, one in the nightmare.

The request made Delilah smile as she leaned back ever so slightly to look down at his face. "You know Jules, I think ice cream with hot fudge and whip cream is just what the doctor ordered." Giving him one more soft squeeze, Delilah let her feet slip off his bed and back onto the floor before giving a hand out to help him. She wanted to make sure he knew she was there with him but still be able to walk. Clinging to her entire body like a monkey made that rather....impossible? "We still have to find out if Susan's mother is coming to town and if she really did steal Jane's husband after all." Delilah offered, leading them out of the dark bedroom and into the living room. With the blinds open, the city lights send an orange glow over her apartment before she could flip the white lights on. Making sure he was on the couch, she took care of getting them the required ice cream, adding a few extra cherries to his, before coming back and offering it to him. "I was feeling a midnight snack myself."

"O-oh," His voice warbled, but with delight instead of fear. A slight smile rose to meet his blue eyes. "...yes, yes, definitely. Um... I'll go... get the spoons and..." Julian's voice trailed off as he happily toddled after Delilah, closely following her through the hallway of the condo. The soft carpet beneath his feet was a welcome reminder that it was simply nighttime, and he was not in the Rift, sleeping on cold and hard stone without a moon to guide him. Delilah took care of the rest, plopping Julian on the couch and retreating to the kitchen for some ice cream. He continued to prattle about the soap opera, both of them having watched the daily episodes since Julian can taken up residence in what he called the dove's nest. "S-susan really shouldn't... have done that. If you... if you get married, you have an... um... obligation to your... hmm... your spouse! But... Susan doesn't care very much, does she? She and Jane, they used to be friends from childhood. Maybe Dane will... will come back from Pueto Rico, after that boating accident, the one with his twin... and... you know, help set things right..." That train of thought was quickly forgotten when a bowl chock full of cherries and ice cream was presented to him. Sapphire eyes lit up like stars. "O-oh! Th-thank you, Delilah! You're... you're the best." The sniffles returned; not from fear, but from appreciation.

"I know." Delilah smirked, leaning to lay her head on Julian's shoulder for a second before picking it back up and diving into her own sugar high. It was the little things that had become special to her since Julian moved in. At first it had been a task but now... He was and always would be her family.
