While Bob never professed to being knowledgeable in the ways of women, it didn't stop him from trying to figure them out. The main one in question, for the time being, was the lovely yet frustrating Aurora Willows.
She'd put herself in jeopardy and he'd given her what he'd felt was sage advice. So sage, in fact, that she'd listened to him and broken it off with Mr. Pointy Ears. She'd come back a hot mess but had been cold and almost heartless to him because of it.
This...this didn't sit well with the Mauvian.
Over the next few weeks, he kept his distance but at the same time kept his presence known. He'd watch her eat, sleep, loiter around the house before work or bedtime and every now and again, even followed her to the coffee shop.
There wasn't much to be said, really. He knew she blamed him - and if that was what it took to keep her safe, well, he'd suck it up and take the blame.
In the meantime, though, he also made sure that she knew he had her on his mind. Every other day, small treasures would make their way onto her nightstand or dresser. A bracelet with the latch broken. A worn out teddy bear. A creased, stained card of a kitten on a branch that said Hang in there! with discernable bite marks from where it'd been carried.
Trash trinket after trash trinket found its way into her view, but the large Mau kept to himself beneath the teenager's bed, for the most part.
Just like he did right then.

Rory had good days and bad days.
If she kept herself busy then she didn't think about the fact that both of her best friends had left her. One, she had shoved away for his own safety and the other - Bazzi wanted to live a real life and yet she felt like he abandoned her.
She knew she was being unfair to the youma but she lost him. Either he was dead or...gone as he hadn't shown up to their weekly meeting.
The teen had half a mind to seek out this Beni character but thought better of it. Whomever he was, he hadn't treated the youma properly or Bazzi would have never wanted to leave. So, she hated him as much as the teenage girl hated anyone.
Today was one of her bad days, where her sorrow felt like it was going to crush her beneath the weight of it and her footsteps were heavy as she climbed the stairs to her bedroom.

He heard the footsteps before anything else. The weight against the old, creaky boards was an easy way to determine who was approaching the hallway of upstairs rooms. Heavy set ones usually meant the burly man was home but soft ones meant his Rory was back.
Furthermore, the speed of the steps also determined what he was in for. It was sad to say, but most of the stair stepping the teenager did these days were slow and eventual. When he'd met her, she was practically flying up them to get to her room and whatever awaited her in the small space. These days seemed to be full of nothing but sadness and obligation - obligation to work, to sit around, to exist.
This wasn't the Rory he knew at all and it was growing more and more concerning as the days passed. Even Akio loitering around, as much as the cat disliked him, didn't seem to be doing much for her.
Feet appeared from his view under the bed and his tail swooshed automatically, almost as if a loyal dog was happy to see his master again. But Bob wasn't a dog - and he wasn't sure that his charge was happy to see him, either.
Quietly, he scooted forward and poked his head out from beneath the full-sized bed. Nose wrinkling, he stared up at the teenager and emitted a soft, pitiful meow to let her know that she wasn't alone in the room.

She hadn't noticed him.
Rory had been too busy climbing onto her bed, tugging her boots off and dropping them with a thud unceremoniously on the ground. That wasn't like her either as she was girl who always paired her shoes together neatly at the bottom of her closet but she hadn't had the energy to do much of anything that she normally did.
Bob's meow had her rolling over on the bed and dangling her head off the side, long hair tumbling around messily because she hadn't bothered doing anything with it after she pulled it out of her ponytail.
She recognized his meow as Bob and not Reven.
"What are you doing under the bed Bob?

Green eyes looked back up at her almost hesitantly. Hair dangled down and eyes darted after several of the strands that continued to swish back and forth. It was tempting to bat at them - no, no, he was going to be mature about it, no need to cave to cat tendencies when there were bigger concerns to fuss about.
He gave himself a moment to overcome the urge, then rose up to nuzzle her forehead with his own. It was a risky move, he knew, but he couldn't help it.
Bob missed his little buddy.
Purring softly, he shifted around to where he could sit down and stare up at her, offering a small lick to the tip of her nose.
"Been tryin' to give you space, baby girl."

Eyes closed and for a moment Rory just let them have that quiet moment, foreheads pressed together while she hung there.
"I don't want to fight any more Bob."
Slowly she pulled herself back onto the bed, shifting until she could lay on it properly, hair fanned out around her. Her tongue clicked against the roof of her mouth to signal that he should join her.
Frankly, Rory was exhausted and she didn't like being upset with him. Sure, none of this would have happened if he had kept his furry nose out of her business but she knew, deep down, that he did it because he thought he was keeping her safe.
"I'm tired and sad, come here."

She pulled back and for a moment, he was concerned that he'd been dismissed from her presence again. Eyes watched her roll back onto the covers and he held his breath.... and then the clicks came.
Ears perked up at the sound and his muscles automatically tensed out of habit. As soon as she called for him, he was pouncing up onto the bed, mindful not to step on any of her limbs as his heavy weight prowled across the comforter.
Without asking, he made his way up to her pillow, gently curling his large form against hers as if nothing had happened between them. He wished there had been nothing, but he'd already made his figurative bed where that particular problem was concerned and there was no coming back from it.
Nosing her ear, he purred softly.
"I'm sorry, Rory."

It was relieving, truthfully, to have Bob back on her bed and to feel like things were slowly but surely repairing themselves when it came to their relationship. Fingers reached out to grab ahold of one of his sides so she could tug the large cat closer to her. Her face pressed against his side and when she sucked in a sharp breath, it definitely sounded like the start of a sob.
Rory managed to swallow it back down.
"I-- I know. It's for the best I just...I miss him Bob, a lot." Her heart ached every single time she thought of her blue eyed ocean prince. "He was my best friend, Bazzi too." Both boys had been removed from her life, once by her choice and the other against her wishes.
She didn't have many friends and to lose the two closest to her was absolutely devastating.
At least she had Bob, Akio, Axton and Reven. As long as those four remained staples in her life, she could keep going. "I want it to stop hurting."

There was no resistance when she tugged him towards her, just his naturally heavy fat cat weight. Her soft skin was quick to bury into his fluff and his head tilted back to both look at her and to nuzzle any body part he could come into contact with. The soft rumble of a purr continued, growing louder the longer she clung to her orange tom cat.
He stilled when he thought he heard a snag in her voice, like the teenager was on the verge of tears once more. Sad words spilled out of her mouth and he felt a pang of guilt over her sorrow, ears flattening. It probably wouldn't go away anytime soon - maybe he needed to find Elf Boy himself and convince him to join the darker side of things for little Hydra's sake... that was a possibility, right?
No.
No he was going to butt out of her business, like she'd wanted him to.
Two paws gently placed themselves on top of the arm that wrapped around his midsection, kneading (clawless, he wasn't a brute) softly against her skin as he purred, "I know, baby girl. It'll get better, I promise."
Leaning down, he began to groom her out of habit while he contemplated things. Then, the figurative light bulb went off. "What about you and Boyfriend go out on a picnic? Y'know, with yours truly? Extra tuna?"

Bob was nearly half her size between his mass and all of his fluff and she appreciated it greatly. It made it easy to press against and hide her face among orange fur as he nuzzled her skin. "I want it to stop hurting," she said, words muffled by his fur. She had to pull herself away to continue to respond and be heard.
"I-- I love him and it's just...it's not safe and it's not fair." It wasn't fair that she loved someone she shouldn't who didn't love her back and who she couldn't even be friends with because it put both of them at risk.
Rory knew she should have been focusing on the things she could control and the things that were 'safe'. Like her plain, non-magical boyfriend who was quiet possibly the best boyfriend in the world that she definitely didn't deserve but...
He loved her and she liked him. A lot. Rory knew that if she could stop seeing through seal framed glasses she'd love Akio in return, she just needed to get there.
"Okay. Okay, but you have to play nice okay? I can't handle it if you two don't get along."

The large beast began to purr, the sound a rumble in his gigantic, twenty-something pound body. As she pulled away from his fur to talk, instinct to tend after his "kitten" kicked in and the Maine Coon leaned in to gently begin grooming the side of her face, scratchy tongue pressing against her cheek and rising up until he reached her hairline.
He listened to her anguish - that's all he really could do, wasn't it? - and held his words when he wanted to make a snide comment about love and the lack that it was good for. Falling for any boy was bad news, through and through - guys wanted to get in pants, they didn't want to make out with your heart. But it wasn't what Rory needed to hear, so Bob kept his maw shut... for now.
The purring pawsed (see what I did there) as he gave her a deadpanned expression at her getting along comment.
"I wouldn't have suggested hanging out with the ----" He had to catch himself, "Silly man if I wasn't willing to play nice. He's... better for you, so I won't fuss."
.... much.

Bob's tongue tickled, the rough surface scratching against her face as he attempted to groom her. Fingers pushed through orange fur, nails gently scratching while Rory tried to reign in her sorrow.
"Akio's really good to me," she mumbled, voice barely audible as she curled back around the cat. The teen knew that she was lucky to be loved by someone like her boyfriend. So far, there wasn't anything he would't do for her and she knew that she should have been grateful.
Still, her heart ached for Seal's Eye. He had been her best friend until she shoved him away and her first love. She knew that it was in the best interest of both of them, but it still hurt.
He had looked hurt when she told him they couldn't see each other anymore and she wondered if it compared to the way she ached now.
It didn't matter.
"Does it get less painful Bob?" She asked.

"Course it does, kid. You're young, you'll bounce back."
Not that Bob really had any experience in the matter. Love is something he actively avoided - it never ended well. He'd gotten too comfortable depending on a woman who'd left him and learned his lesson through that alone. People were out for themselves - if it worked in your favor, that was great... but at the end of the day, it was every man (and cat) for himself.
The purring rumbled in his chest as her fingers continued to massage his thickness. His head butted against hers as the cogs and wheels in his Mauvian brain continued to turn. "Y'know," he dragged out, "What you need is a good distraction, until your heart wises up."
He hadn't wanted to bring it up, not since the last time, but... maybe this was a good opportunity to point out he'd seen the glimmer of maturity in her. Green eyes shined as he grinned, his canine fangs hanging out with the gesture. "I bet I even know a good way to get your head back into the game. You up for a trip to the Negaspace, baby girl?"

Rory didn't believe him, she didn't know how to when it felt like her heart was crumbling to pieces and she barely had enough tape to keep it intact enough to keep beating, but she pretended like she did. "Okay," she breathed, shakily.
Once again the girl moved away, this time to sit up. Palms rubbed at red cheeks and puffy eyes until her face was no longer wet from tears. The potential to resume sobbing was there, but Rory was determined to hold it back.
She was stronger than that. She was.
"What do you have in mind?" She asked, idly scratching him behind the ears. Her free hand toyed with the fraying hairs of her braid, while she waited for his answer.

His eyes closed and his head instinctively began to move to meet her fingers, tilting his head back and his chin up as he thoroughly took advantage of her scritches and scratches. The long, fluffy tail thwapped against the pillow and for a brief moment, Bob was so caught up in the amazing feeling that he almost forgot his train of thought.
"Work should be your priority, right?" A decent start to his proposition, or at least in his opinion it was. "So you can't work properly when you're being held back from your potential."
Head begrudgingly leaving her fingers, the large Maine Coon rose up from his seat and plopped down off the side of the small bed. Turning back around to face her, he grinned up at the teenager. "Already talked it over with the big guys, did the paperwork even - you can thank me later with some lunch."
His tail bobbed and weaved, signaling his excitement, "So how about you and me take a trip to Negaspace and I can show you what I'm talking about?"
