For days now, the number of people disappearing across the city had been growing at a disturbingly rapid rate. So rapid, in fact, that Robert Banks had gotten into the habit of triple checking his doors and windows before going to bed. If Bob was in the house, he was forced to stay and if he wasn't, the beast would be forced to fend for himself until morning. Rob wasn't taking any chances - not if there was a chance that he too could find himself abducted by whatever nefarious gang was behind this.

He'd made it through another night safely enough, bringing about a new day (which hopefully meant new clients and new retainer fees). The shirt and tie had been easy enough to pick out for the last workday of the week, maroon in color to contrast against the whiteness of his shirt. The lawyer padded around the carpeted bedroom on bare feet, his shirt hanging loose as his fingers focused on the tie around his neck. Dark slacks sat on the bed, his dress shoes on the ground beneath.

The bedroom mirror wasn't anything fancy, attached behind the door to his closet. It was insignificant enough to forget about for the twenty-three other hours of the day when he wasn't putting on neckwear but it served its purpose well that morning. Twenty-seven seconds was all it took for him to knot it properly then straighten it across his chest. Perfect.

So perfect, in fact, that he couldn't resist offering the handsome brunette in the mirror a wink, one hand rising up to c**k a gun-finger towards his reflection as his mouth made an appreciative clicking sound.

What a charming, gorgeous stud.

Hazel eyes blinked, however, as the top part of said stud began to fade. Mussed brown hair was just...just gone and the rest of his face began to fade away with it.

What the hell...

One hand reached out to use his sleeve to wipe away the obviously foggy mirror when the white sleeve of his ridiculously overpriced shirt sank directly into the mirror. Rob didn't have time to question the optical illusion, not when the strange sensation that had sucked in his arm continued to pull the rest of the lawyer in with it.

Before he could utter any noise, Robert Banks disappeared into the mirror, leaving behind nothing but a pair of dark slacks and matching dress shoes.

The room he found himself in was far from as comforting as his own bedroom was. Mirror after mirror stared back at him, as if taunting him about falling into some...random...mirror....world...dimension...thing?

No. It was a dream. Clearly it was a dream.

Because why else would he still be standing there in his boxers?

For the most part Pietro Vladmir Illya Ivan Kavinsky minded his own damn business. Unless it related to Ellis, because Ellie's business was his business even if the reverse was not the same. He had seen the reports about people mysteriously vanishing without rhyme or reason and he ignored it because it didn't have anything to do with him.

As far as he knew, Ellie was safe and would text him updates even if Kavinsky didn't return the gesture. He knew their relationship was grossly imbalanced but it was how things had always been.

The Russian had been working on a job, a simple sink repair fix at an old lady's house when things went to metaphorical s**t. One minute he was testing the faucets of the freshly repaired sink and the next- the ******** mirror ate him when he peered forward to adjust the gray beanie that sat atop his stock of thick white hair.

Wherever the mirror's stomach was had a lot of fog and he found himself coughing when he picked himself up off his knees, brushing off his dark jeans and adjusting the grey jacket he had been wearing while he worked. Silver eyes flicked around his surrounding and he considered powering up and seeing if he could bust his way out when he realized...he wasn't alone.

"Блядь" He cursed when he saw who he was stuck with.

Great. Idiot lawyer man who didn't shut the ******** up

As far as dreams went, this one was surely an interesting one. Mirrors, alright - mirrors without reflections, even. Amy had once prattled on about dream interpretations but he'd never paid her any mind, so who the heck could only guess what any of this meant. Fog, mirrors, lack of clothing...okay, so maybe if he was lucky, the dream would phase out into a more interesting part two.

When the gruff Russian curse came out of nowhere, though, Robert Banks knew he was no longer in a dream. No, he was in a nightmare, no doubt about that.

The turn around to confirm his suspicions was slow and deliberate. Sure enough, there he stood in all of his dickish, dumb-hatted glory. s**t.

For the hell of it, the older man did his best to concentrate and wish away the unwanted apparition. Sadly, it failed to work. Guess his subconscious was stronger than his conscious on this one.

"I see we're back to our friendly way of greeting people," he said cattily, referencing the clearly unfriendly foreign word he's let slip only moments earlier. "You can do us both a favor and disappear, okay?"

Maybe that's all it needed - to be told to scram.

Unlike the man without pants, Kavinsky knew right off the bat that he wasn't dreaming. (Though, this would have been a nightmare if he'd had one for sure.) So when he was dismissed, the Russian nearly snarled at the man. <******** off," he hissed between gritted teeth while he fiddled with the sleeves of his jacket. It took some finagling but he was able to roll the sleeves up.

Silver eyes gazed sharply at the man in a state of half dress before he took in the white walls and the smoke that curled at their feet. They drifted across handsome features and took in the color of the man's boxers. Cursing beneath his breath he turned away, shuffling closer to the walls.

A palm was lain against the wall and he pressed his weight into it.

It did not budge.

Cursing in Russian once again he turned around and sunk down, back sliding against the wall, drew his knees up and draped his arms over them. Kavinsky looked at Banks, but said nothing.

So it didn't go away. Great. Go figure.

Then again, Rob wasn't surprised. Nightmares weren't about catering to desires, they were about denying them. And right about now, he was ready to deny this dream outta existence.

He felt the other man stare him down, eyes roaming across his body as the teenager slunk to the ground. It made him uncomfortable, almost cold.

Wait.

The cold wasn't coming from the hateful glare of the Russian...no, it was coming from the room itself. Since when did dreams become so vivid that he could feel his legs shake from the chill?

Rob took a seat, ensuring at least four, five feet between them. His legs felt even colder as the backs pressed against the flooring and the idea - the notion - that this could potentially not be a dream came creeping into the back of his mind.

"I don't remember going back to sleep." The lawyer finally admitted aloud, eyes moving to meet the silver ones judging him.

As he expected, Rob didn't know when to shut up and leave things alone. Instead he felt the need to prattle on about s**t that didn't even make sense.

"Don't be an idiot," he barked, clearly on the last fraying edges of his own patience. "This isn't some ******** dream, you're not asleep." Silver eyes snapped over to where the man was sitting. How the man could think this was some ******** up dream was beyond him, but maybe he liked to live in a disillusioned state.

Which, now that he thought about it, explained a lot about the would-be not-but-wished-he-was hot-shot lawyer. One hand moved from where it was propped up to rub at his tired face. This really wasn't what he needed after another round of shitty shifts and getting paid less than he should have for his work.

"But I swear to god, if you talk the entire time we're in here...."

"But this doesn't make sense. None of this makes any sense."

Fear was creeping its way back up Robert's spine. Mirrors didn't just eat people and spit them out in different dimensions. That was fodder for movies, for fantasy stories - not real life. People got kidnapped in his world, but it wasn't by reflective surfaces!!!!

Hands nervously rubbed the ends of his elbows as both arms draped themselves over his bent knees. Anxiety was written all over his face, the charm and self-assurance he usually wore nowhere to be seen.

Glancing over at his mirror-mate (what else was he supposed to call him?) he couldn't help but notice how the teenager looked more pissed than worried about their situation. Was... was this not abnormal to him?

"Why aren't you freaking out. Shouldn't you be freaking out?"

The more Banks talked the more a noticeable headache began. A hand lifted to grab the bridge of his nose between thumb and middle finger in an attempt to alleviate the pain. "Stop." The word was said firm and forcefully, silver eyes flicking over when he shook his head.

"This is Destiny City, if you're not expecting weird s**t to happen then you haven't lived in the city long enough." People went missing all the time, a mysterious coma happened and made national news, a curfew had been enforced then stripped, and monsters regularly burst to life and attacked people. Why anyone really chose to live in the city was beyond him, he and Ellis stayed because that's all they could afford.

"Why the ******** would I freak out? It's a waste of energy." And it was pissing him off, he wanted Banks to shut the hell up. "You're being an idiot."

In return, both hands moved up to rub down his face - his thankfully, freshly clean-shaven face. It was bad enough that he was now stuck in a room with the epitome of class, but he'd been stuck in less than confident menswear at that. At the very least, he could take solace in the fact he still at least looked like he hadn't crawled out of bed and simply shoved an ugly old beanie onto his head. Hmph.

Yes, strange things happened in Destiny City. He was absolutely correct - it was why, in fact, that Rob and his partner had decided to form their business there in the first place. More crime and problems meant more need of a lawyer and they wanted to make the biggest bucks possible doing so.

What he hadn't expected was to get himself roped into one of these situations. He was careful. He was overly careful. But there was no safety manual that came with MIRRORS, of all things, warning the buyer of possible dimensional transport with every sale.

..... who would you even sue in a scenario like that?

"I'm just trying to understand the situation," he finally replied back, crossly. He didn't consider being labeled an idiot over expressing his worry an appropriate reaction, but he also didn't have very high expectations when it came to the manners of a craigslist repairman.

Eyeing the teenager, he glanced over his person as an idea sprung to mind. "Do you have your cell on you? Have you tried it yet?"

"Understanding is accepting that this is Destiny City and this s**t just happens."

Sure it was a crappy excuse for an explanation but unfortunately it was one of the only ones available, unless you were part of the magical underground. Which Kavinsky strongly suspected that Banks wasn't apart of or he wouldn't have been looking like a chicken with his head cut off.

The lawyer wasn't as good of an actor as he pretended to be and the Russian thought he could see right through him.

"Doesn't work." He answered as gruffly as ever, not bothering to fish the battered cheap phone from his pocket. He only used it for job texts anyway and refused to let the lawyer see it. Like he needed to give him another reason to be high and mighty. Kavinsky could feel weariness creeping through him and he leaned his head back, closed his eyes, and tried not to think about how he was stuck with the last person he could have wanted.

He gave the other man a blank stare.

For one thing, it was mildly - no - very disturbing that the teenager was not nearly as alarmed about their situation as he was. And Rob even felt he was taking things pretty calmly, considering he'd just stumbled his way into this strange room from a mirror.

"So that's your answer?? That we should just sit here and do nothing? s**t happened, so oh well??"

The Russian was even closing his eyes - was he really trying to nap? Really?

Fingers combed their way through his typically meticulously styled hair. He was feeling far from organized and collected - the opposite, in fact.

Trying one more time to find common ground with the oh-so-helpful companion he'd be stuck with, he asked exasperatedly, "Aren't you the least bit concerned about how we got here?"

Frankly put, Kavinsky was exhausted because his life was an exhausting one. He had worked two jobs that day before this mirror bullshit happened and...he was pretty sure that he was getting more exhausted without even doing anything.

Then again, maybe it was the fact that Banks never shut his trap and that was seeping all his energy from him.

"I walked by a mirror, it ate me. It's pretty simple." He spoke snappishly, voice grated and tired. Clearly he was trying to restrain himself and not be a total a**. "As long as we get out, I don't care how we ended up in here." It wasn't like avoiding mirrors for the rest of his life was optional.

"Seriously, Banks. Chill." He had been through worse situations than this surely---

Wait, the ground was giving out beneath ******** ******** <******** fell.
